Your greatest ever 40+ fighter?
Who do you think is the best boxer ever to compete after 40 years of age?
Sugar Ray Robinson?
Eder Jofre?
Roberto Duran?
Bernard Hopkins?
George Foreman?
SRR - Competed well into his 40's, but never really pulled up many trees in his 40's.
Duran - Would probably still be fighting today if he could, but was more of a name journeyman after 40.
Jofre - One of the greatest fighters ever, but he retired at 40, after having a couple of fights after his 40th.
It's a straight fight between Foreman & Hopkins for me.
Both deserve praise for their achievements at such an advanced sporting age, but I have to say that Hopkins is the winner for me.
To box on well after 40, be an undisputed champ, not lose any skill or appear to detriorate in anyway is mind boggling. :bowdown:

Anchient Archie was great......So was BIG George......George winning the HW title in his 40's and it was MONSTER!!! George's gotta be the greatest!!

Though he wasn't an all time great Sauol Mamby was still giving fighters fit's well into his 40's

It's a tie between Sugar Ray Robinson (whom I consider to be the GOAT) & Hopkins.
Hopkins will always have a special place in boxing for me & he was/is an amazing fighter...but...Ray Robinson did so much...the problem I have is that...Robinson went down hill after he hit 40.
The other thing you gotta factor is is that he won & lost & then won again the middleweight title two or three times towards the twilight years.
That speaks a lot for the man, IWO. The age that he did that...most fighters are either retired, dead, or just gone.

We have a big Collossas called Big Bobby Mirovic. By no way is he the greatest, probably not even in the top 1000. He had nearly more losses than wins until he turned 40. Since then, the only fights he has lost have been all pretty much contraversial. He should have started his career at 40 :newdb:

Gotta ask, for I have no idea... But did Sugar Ray beat anyone special after he had actually turned 40?? I thought he wen't downhill after his mid to late 30's..

Anyway on a serious note, its got to be either Foreman or Hopkins. id go for Foreman purely because he had like 10 years out of the ring. Although a couple more fights from B-hop and id change my mind!!!

yeah good call..big bobs a beast!he always comes in to the fruit market i work at,hes a really nice guy...hes last memerable fight was against rob calloway that was a war!! ;D

in terms of longevity after reaching the age of 40 I would definitely go for archie moore
