Is Rivera really any good?
Entertaining fight?

Re: Julio vs Rivera update
Good fight. Rivera looks good and has Julio backing up most of the time. Both landing hard clean punches. Julio having way to much trouble. This should have been an easy fight for him
I have it a draw after 10 rounds.

Julio was just overrated. He should of destroyed Rivera

Re: Julio vs Rivera update
Great 12th round!
Julio just got knocked down!!!!
Round over.... Rivera should win this one for sure.
Waiting on the cards...
-
Re: Julio vs Rivera update
Scores:
SD
115-112 Rivera
115-112 Julio
114-113 Julio
Close fight, but I thought Rivera pulled it out especially with the 12th round knock down...

Re: Julio vs Rivera update
Dunno ???
This should have been a fairly easy fight for him, if he had trouble with Rivera then maybe it's time for team Julio to slow it down a bit and give him time to develop....

Re: Julio vs Rivera update
Julio survives Rivera!
Saturday, October 28 2006
The fight was billed as "The Hard Way Back to the Top" and it was just that as welterweight contender Joel Julio (28-1, 24 KOs) survived a twelfth round knockdown to barely win a split decision over former world title challenger Cosme Rivera (30-10-2, 21 KOs) on Friday night at Miccosukee Resort and Gaming in Miami, Florida. Rivera made a very tough and determined effort and the first half of the bout was very close. Julio had a big round eight and Rivera was further hampered by a cut over his right eye caused by an unintentional headbutt in round nine. Rivera, however turned the tide and was much better down the stretch, flooring Julio in the final seconds. Scores were 115-112, 114-113 Julio, 115-112 Rivera. Julio now ranked #5 WBA, #10 WBC and #11 WBO was returning after suffering his first career loss (against Carlos Quintana in 100-degree heat). He claims Rivera's WBO Latin and WBA FEDECENTRO belts.

And Zab destroyed that "bum" in 3 rounds.
But I think Margarito should fight Rivera now. Maybe he'll do it in 2.

Rivera was a bum. How slow do you want them to go?

Re: Julio vs Rivera update
Is it true that any fighter is a bum when you want to take credit from a fighter you dont like but is a great fighter when he fights someone you like?
Rivera was a "bum" fighting Judah.. but a "good contender no pushover fighter" for Julio ?

Happens all the time. Look at Calzaghe's opponents. All of a sudden Bika is good, tough fighter. Brewer and Mitchell are no longer shot. Rivera was a bum against Judah. He was a bigger bum against Julio.

Re: Julio vs Rivera update
CC for the news Pantera,I'm surprised,I thought wth Julio's power,he would blow Rivera out. Did he try anything new like jab, head movement etc?
-
Re: Julio vs Rivera update
How did Julio look? Was he boxing more or still just looking for that one shot? Like El Gamo asked any head movement, jab?
-
Re: Julio vs Rivera update
Julio showed no defense and very limited offense. He was backing up most of the night and occasionally threw some combos and went on the offense. He was never real aggressive, but able to connect many times. At one point the ref stopped action and had the Doctor look at a bad cut above Rivera's left eye (I think it was the 8th round). Seemed like his power is not what is has been made out to be. He did stun Rivera a few times, but usually Rivera came back and was able to stun Julio a few seconds later.
Overall, it was an exciting, action filled fight, and Rivera actually looked good against Julio. That being said, what does that make Julio?
PS- I don't think this should take away from Quintana in his impressive win against Julio. He looked slick and boxed well regardless of what happened in this fight. I still think Quintana will find a way to beat Cotto.

He looked like an overrated fighter who's been exposed.

Re: Julio vs Rivera update
Hmmmmm, sounds dissappointing and it's the case the Julio was ridiculously over rated or or or Zab did really well in his win over Rivera,in which case I give kudos to Judah. I really want to see this fight! Was this really the same Cosme Rivera? ??? What the heck is up with Julio, isn't Mcgirt doing his job!

Nothing is wrong with Julio. He's just not that good. It's that simple. He was overly hyped and made out to be the next big thing. And it didn't happen. Happens all the time in boxing.

I see what you are saying bro but still, one thing he did know how to do and do well was to bang and after seeing Rivera being blown away by a smaller Judah,I would have thought the reasonably bigger and probably harder hitting Julio would have dealt with Rivera well too! It seems like he has alot of work to do! Hey Bilbo, where you at my man? You see the fight?
On a side note, anyone here booking Suarez-Cintron? It's on at Maxboxing,I would order it as I think it'll be one of the fights of the year but I'm not sure if it's safe and I didn't see an option for peeps from Britan.

Yeah I kind of taught he was wicked puncher too untill you look at the people he knocked out. Pretty much fighters he should of been knocking out.

Re: Julio vs Rivera update
That's surprising, I didn't think Julio was that good but he should have handled Rivera.
There's really not much he can do, find a lesser quality of opposition? That would be some shitty opposition.

I don't think McGirt worked Julio's corner this fight

Rivera was a bum. How slow do you want them to go?
I dunno maybe have him fight against a guy making his debut ???
;D
Yeah!! What I think is even more funny is that I have yet to see a Dan Rafael article somehoe trying to defend or save his Love Child from the crtics... But I mean how can he ? ? ? ?

Re: Julio vs Rivera update
Julio looked really bad, lost the fight in my opinion, and to a journeyman fighter at best.
Can't believe I thought this kid would join the world's elite, now he looks more likely to go the same route as Audrey Harrison. :-\

Have a cc from me. Maybe Rivera wasn't the bum you lot tried to make him when Zab blasted him out in 3 rounds(dropping him with the first punch too) ;)
