My Top 10 Fights For 2007............

Ok these are the top 10 fights that I most want to see in 2007 in reverse order. See if you agree or disagree :P


10Daniel Ponce De Leon vs Isreal Vasquez A classic slugfest in the making, this one wouldn't be going 12 rounds!

9 Jorge Arce vs Vic Darchinyan These two little guys both bring entertainment to the ring, both punch well above their weight and if they met it could be one of the most explosive fights of 2007.

8 Arturo Gatti vs Diego Coralles Gatti is contracted for one more fight, Coralles having lost his last two fights is going to move up to welterweight. Could this fight be more appetising? This is a natural fight for fight fans, a blood and guts war that could truly be a pick'em fight.

7 Edwin Valero vs Eric Morales Assuming that Morales loses to the Pacman later this year, if he does decide to fight on what more entertaining fight could he be involved in than this? With Valero's future in America still uncertain due to that failed scan this one may not be possible, but oh how much do I want to see it!

6 Bernard Hopkins vs Oleg Maskaev Ok I know a lot of people don't care for this one, but it's a top 10 list and I have to stick at least one heavyweight fight on here don't I? Personally I'd love Bernard to do this and reach this historic milestone becoming the first and only true middleweight to win a heavyweight crown. Jones and Toney both campaigned at higher weights for the majority of their careers, Bernard was fighting at 160 just over a year ago! At age 42 to boot this would be a feat to catapualt him into the the top 10 p4p of all time.

5 Jermain Taylor vs Winky Wright 2Their first fight was a pulsating contest, nonstop action swinging both ways. I thought a draw was just about fair, but regardless this fight needs a rematch! Could be one of the best fights next year without a doubt.

4 Joe Calzaghe vs Mikkel Kessler I know Joe would prefer to sidestep this one in favour of a shot at Hopkins or Roy Jones but this fight simply has to be made. Both unbeaten, both double world champions, the winner would literally take it all. As far as I'm aware no fighter has ever truly unified the super middleweight division and I'm not even sure if anyone has held all 4 world titles at one weight simultaneously, Hopkins maybe? Regardless this fight would be huge for real fight fans.

3 Miguel Cotto vs Ricky Hatton Forget Castillo this surely has to be the most entertaining matchup in the junior welterweight division! Both fighters are pure aggression, both are vulnerable and both are evenly matched. This has fight of the year all over it. For Hatton a chance to prove his worth stateside, for Cotto a chance to join enter the top 10 p4p, the Hall of Fame beckons for the winner no doubt.

2 Marco Antonio Barrera vs Manny Pacquiao 2 Barrera ends his career apparently next year and what better way to bow out than victory over Manny Pacquaio, the last man to knock him out. Barrera has reigned as the premier small man fighter for a decade, a final megafight against the current king of the featherweights would be a fitting end for the great man win or lose.

1) Floyd Mayweather vs Oscar De La Hoya If it happens, and it must, this will unquestionably be the biggest fight in 2007 a PPV dream and Oscar's swansong. Out of all the fighters out there if anyone can beat Floyd it sure must be the goldenboy. People go on about how Baldy is Floyd's first natural welterweight opponent, well DLH is a natural 154 lber now and outshines Baldomir in every area. Could be the best fight of the year, certainly the biggest this is Floyd's legacy defining fight.

Was Taylor Wright I really all that entertaining? I mean it was based on 2 big name fighters but I found it awefully boring. It was of the few fights that I just stopped watching at the 6th round because I already knew how it would end. I downloaded it the day after the fight.

Its not just because I knew how it would end because I do that alot like with Pacquiao vs. Larios, Barera vs. Juarez I, Brewster vs. Lyakovich ....

i love reading that shit. it really excites me, loads of awesome fights and should be a good year.

@ Ice cold boxing, some great fights there buddy I would love to see all of them, when making my list I decided to limit myself to only allowing one major fight for each fighter though, as rarely do we see a fighter fight two megafights in one year unfortunately.

Hatton would get battered, not even a contest I don't think. Only De La Hoya of all the current lot can realistically beat Floyd and worldwide it is probably at least 5 times bigger than Mayweather Hatton.

This is only one I have no intrest in. Gatti has worn out his welcome.

The Bernard/Oleg fight is pushing it for me but I would tune in...

This is all I can think of for now,the list would get too big otherwise and I think they are all realistic fights that can be made excepy maybe Cotto-Hatton,when Rick mentioned his next 3 oponents,none of them was Cotto.

i would say its less to do with how entertaining the fight is..
its more of a decider fight... the people must know who is the best.. two awesome fighters at theyr peak and one that is undefeated, and they need to show the world who is the best now!!

Here are my top ten fights for 2007:

10. Joan Guzman vs Edwin Valero: I don't know why, but I've been dreaming about this matchup. The winner would be the heir apparent at super feather and would have the right to fight the big boys in the division, meaning PacMan, MAB, and EM.

9. Paul Williams vs Antonio Margarito: Nobody is scared of the Boogeyman. In fact, Williams has been calling out Tony for a while. Now Williams is the mandatory for Tony's belt. This should be an all out slugfest that will prove a ton of things about both guys. Williams looks like Hearns at 147, is he the real deal? Is Tony actually all that Arum has built him up to be? This is a fight that MUST and barring any setbacks, WILL happen.

8. Edison Miranda vs Arthur Abraham II: Everyone saw the first fight and I'll be honest, I still don't see how the hell Abraham won on points. Talk about a screwjob. The IBF saw what happened and still has Edison ranked as the #1 contender. Both fighters have a ton of heart and a genuine hatred for one another. The second fight will be more thrilling than the first, and that's saying a lot.

7. Joe Calzaghe vs Mikkel Kessler: This could be the biggest fight in the history of super middleweights. A bonafide unification. JoeCal should stop fucking around with Bernard Hopkins (who is almost 42), Roy Jones (who is THIS close to being washed up), and Jermain Taylor (who still has unfinished business at middleweight). Although this fight won't have the mainstream US appeal that a Hopkins-Calzaghe fight would have, this fight would define JoeCal's career and give Kessler the chance at making history.

6. Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs Sugar Shane Mosley: Ever since Mosley stopped Vargas, I've been salivating for this fight. This would be a great fight and would pit the #1 P4P fighter in the sport versus against one of the true stars of the welterweight division in the past decade. It will also show us if Mosley actually still has gas left in the tank or if Vargas was just that bad. For Floyd, it could be a great setup for another fight to be mentioned later in the list and would only enhance his celebrity.

5. Ricky Hatton vs Jose Luis Castillo: This would be the greatest war in the past decade. Both fighters have a ton of heart and have a ton of skill as well. JLC wants to move up to 140 or 147, Hatton wants to move down to 140 again. What a great fight, Hatton hasn't really fought a worthy opponent since Tszyu. Collazo was worthy but I honestly believe Hatton doesn't belong at 147.

4. Miguel Cotto vs Diego Corrales: Corrales wants to come all the way up to 147 and Cotto is starting his campaign at 147. Both fighters have HUGE followings and the matchup is actually intriguing. Cotto has a pretty good skill set but ever since the Torres fight people have been wondering if his chin will end up being his Achillies heel. Cotto hasn't been in with a puncher since Torres. Corrales doesn't have to weight drain himself anymore and because of this, I believe he will be more healthy and explosive at 147. What a fight.

3. Wladimir Klitschko vs Samuel Peter II: I'm predicting that after Wlad gets rid of Brock and Peter gets rid of Toney, these two fighters need to hookup in what will be the biggest heavyweight fight in a long while. Yeah, some of you might be saying that the division needs to get unified first, but I'm saying that this fight will provide the universally recognized heavweight champion of the world. The first fight was exactly what we expected, Wlad would probably escape danger because of his skills. But I think that Peter is so determined and so hungry that a second fight is warranted in this situation.

2. Jermain Taylor vs Winky Wright II: I had the first fight scored 115-113 Taylor, but I definitely thought a draw was more than fair. Winky was crying like he won the fight without a doubt, but I don't think anyone watching that fight saw it as onesided. What everyone could agree on was the pure competiveness of the fight. It was probably one of the best technically and dramatic fights in the past couple of years and an example of a fight living up to the hype. The second fight will be more important and probably more exciting.

1. Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs Oscar De La Hoya: You knew this one was coming. Unlike some of the crap that gets put on PPV (i.e. Tyson exhibitions), this is a fight no one will have a problem shelling out $50 for. The #1 P4P fighter in the sport, Pretty Boy Floyd Mayweather, lifestyle flashy. Floyd has an amazing skill set and is the most technically sound boxer I've ever watched. Even though, he doesn't have a ton of pop at 147 and he's not a brawler, his technique always keeps you into the fight and watching what he is gonna do next. If he wins this fight, this will serve as a passing of the torch. Everyone keeps an eye on Floyd Mayweather. ODLH, the biggest non heavyweight star in the history of boxing, needs this fight to retire. While he is the biggest star in the sport, everyone knows that ODLH hasn't ever really beat anybody except Genaro Hernandez. He hasn't become the biggest star in the sport not with winning or skill but with his talent outside of the ring. He beat an old washed up Julio Cesar Chavez, he barely beat and drugged out and washed up Pernell Whitaker, in my eyes he got a gift Vegas decision against Quartey, he ran like a coward in the championship rounds against Felix and paid for it with a loss, he lost twice against Shane Mosley, he beat Vargas after Trinidad already demolished him, and he lost against a much bigger B-Hop. He hasn't truly won a big big fight in his career except against Genaro in his career. He knows this and it eats him up. This is why even though he's acting like he doesn't need the fight, he knows everyone questions his boxing legacy. This is why this fight WILL happen. Not to mention it will probably be the biggest PPV in history.

BTW, no PacMan on the list. But I wanna see him fight.

loads of potential quality fights on the horizon boys. the chances of the big undefeated fighters all still having that O is very unlikely. who do you boys think might still have that O this time next year?

Thats what I was thinking, no real fireworks there. Its not a fight you will watch more than once.

9) O'Neill Bell v. Chris Byrd @ Cruiserweight.
8) Gatti v. Vargas at a catchweight. I know this would be almost impossible as Vargas can hardly make 154, and Gatti is a blown up 140 pounder.
7) Pacqiua v. MAB.
6) Hatton v. Paul Williams @ 147. No was is this kid ready for Margarito. Blowing out a shot Sharmba Mitchell is not that impressive.
5) Tarver v. Woods or Adamek.
4) Calzaghe v. Manfredo. After looking like crap last time out, and with his hand all f*****, Joe Cal should think about a tuneup fight before thinking about Kessler. Regardless of the ridicule it would earn him, and the very few fights he has left in his hand. I don't think Joe Cal has too many like the Lacy fight left in him, and Manfredo has looked like Godzilla. I think this would be a good fight between two displaced Italians.
3) A healthy Calzaghe v. Kessler.
2) RJJ v. Laila Ali
1) Any fight involving any 2 of these 4 fighters...PBF/Margarito/DeLahoya/Mosley

1.) PBF vs. Oscar (147 or 154) - it's got all of the elements for FOTY (except for Hatton die-hards)
2.) Wlad vs. Sasquatch (201+) - you know it's coming I think the only way to fix the heavies is to get them to unify.
3.) Hatton vs. Castillo (140) - would be a barn-burner and the right fight style wise for both guys
4.) Darchinyan vs. Arce (118) - This would be easy for both to make weight and have more power.
5.) Quintana vs. Williams (147) - Skills vs. non-stop punching, gotta love that match-up
6.) Calzaghe vs. Kessler (168) - You know the arguments for this one
7.) Manfredo Jr vs. RJJ (168) - battle of the Juniors, up and comer vs. former great probably at the same skill level at this point.
8.) Gonzalez vs Vazquez 2 (122) - last one was great, big come from behind win FOTY in my opinion so far
9.) Kyowa vs. Calderon (105) - Settle who is the king of the division
10.)Guzman vs. Soto (130) - I just want to see this one alright?

there are tons of others, but these are the ones that stick out to me as being either really good or division defining fights.

I just want clinchko to knock off valuev because if valuev ties marciano heavyweight record of consecutive wins, i dunno what i'd do.
