I think Calzaghe is a damn fine fighter, but if he doesnt fight Kessler, then I too will be saddened...

If Calzaghe fights a mediocre opponent next time out then It really will be a waste of time...

I really really wish that Joe does something else than the German Chump Sven Otte, the guy has no shame to say on German Television that he retired on top having faced all the top guys of his category (pretty silly). I mean, Joe needs to do something else than just facing Good challengers ! he needs to fight the best at all costs : Winky, Jermain, Tarver, Hopkins.

part of me can understand why calzaghe would rather fight taylor than kessler. from what i've seen of kessler taylor is a better fighter and would probably be a better name on his record (but if you look at joe's record it doesn't look to me like getting the best names on it has ever been his number one priority). taylor (being a yank himself) is obviously a bigger name in the states and therefore joe would be able to showcase him self over there a lot more by fighting taylor than he would if he took the kessler fight. a taylor fight would make calzaghe more pennies than a kessler fight aswell.
but on the other hand it looks to me that the vast majority of people (including me) would rather see joe fight kessler and unify the division.

A better boxer in what way? Kessler has the edge in power, size, technique , speed, defence and movements but of course Kessler does not have an American passport....

On the contrary.
Kessler get's less credit in this forum than in any other international forum i know (i check out 4-5 of these regularly).

I know the regulars of this forum believe they (and this forum in general) are superior to any other(s).

Which is just one more reason why i'd have such a laugh If 1) Kessler-Calzaghe happened and 2) Kessler won.

The great man, like a number of so-called big names in America, has always got a handy excuse not to fight me. I hope Winky Wright or Jermain Taylor will move up a division from middleweight because they're good fighters - but they're both fighting in December and the February date Frank has been given by HBO could be too soon, unfortunately. But I'd take any big name :angel: :baeh: :bananastyle:.

Firstly - vindication. The vast majority on this board has been sooooo bloody assured that Calzaghe wold just walk over a guy like Kessler. I bit of doubt may be seaping in now.


I haven't been around long enough to know all what Royal has been saying in the past. But judging from what i've seen in other forums leading up to Lacy-Calzaghe fight. I doubt very much Royal has been any worse than a great number of pro-Lacy ppl were then. The shear volume of it was so extreme it was unbelievable.

But because Royal was pretty much alone AND because most of you untill recently really had little clue what Kessler was about, it made Royal stand out a lot more, making it very easy to just ASSUME he was way off and all his claims were much more ridiculous than any pro-Lacy, pro-Calzaghe or pro-whoever claims being made.

This attitude towards Kessler (perhaps caused by Royal) still sticks to this forum much more than anywhere else.

It is true that most of us did not know Kessler very well until Royal came along.

Unfortunately, Royal is insane and a racist fool to boot, so people did not take him seriously. he diluted some of the sense he DID talk about Kessler by making racist comments about Lacy.

Thus, rightly or wrongly, people associate Kessler with racism.

Taylor is a bigger name...but I don't think that he's a better fighter than Kessler. They both have their strong points & they both have their weak points...IWO...it's in both of their defences.

Taylor would pull more press in the states though...I agree there...but again...I don't agree that he's the better fighter.

As i said i haven't been around long and i didn't witness the racist stuff. That explains a lot. I understand how that could make anyone turn against Kessler just by perceived association to such.

That's the feeling i've often gotten comming in here. That an elitist view about Calzaghe being untouchable was being driven down my throat.

Has Calzaghe said so?
Has Warren said so?

The "i've heard" part clearly refers to press rumours and talk.
If it came from Fwank he wouldn't say "i've heard".

Also if it did come from Warren - is Calzaghe likely to come out in public and critizise the choice?
