Just Another One of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Mayweather vs Baldomir
Well my friends...the weight is finally over.
What I'd like to lable as THE FIGHT is only 6 short days away.
Why lable this THE FIGHT, you ask of Wacko?
Not only is it another match up featuring my #2 favorite fighter of all time...it's one step closer to unifying one of the most talent deep divisions of the game.
147 pounds is about to get sorted out bwoys & girls...one way or another...& win, lose, or draw on this one...Wacko can finally say for once that he will be totally satisfied with the outcome...long as it's legit.
Let's all settle in & put your reading glasses on fellers...I got a lot to say...& the majority of it is going to be old spat...but we gotta get this DRBR started off right...thus I bring to you...yet again...finally...after two weeks off...yep.
Drum roll please!
You guessed it: Just Another One of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds.
You gotdam right I'm fulla me-self this go round! Heh heh heh.
So some of you might be asking right now...why? Why Wacko? Why are you more full of ye-ole-self this weekend than usual?
Several reasons.
First & foremost...we get to put the boxing theatre to full blast this weekend. The sound system's getting beefed up a bit with another 6 speakers & wer'e loading up for a mega blast. The food's on order, the crowd is lining up, & this is...once again...THE FIGHT.
This Saturday, November the 4th, 2006 wer'e heading to Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas courtesy of HBO PPV to see if the odds & hurtles can be jumped & beaten as Floyd Mayweather pits his speed & skills against the strength & durability of the IBA & WBC's recognized Welterweight champion Carlos Manuel Baldomir. This fight is...for lack of better words...basically all the marbles.
Stop for just a second & think what's riding on this match up...for both men.
Fights have come & gone.
Careers have been made & broken.
History is being made.
Weight classes have been jumped & conquered.
Odds have been over come.
Images have rejuvenated.
As big as those facts are for the fighters...stop for one minute...& think of what this means to us, the fans.
On September the 10th, 2006...I asked you all a question...not a simple on...but one that has been juggled back & forth between pretty much everyone on the board.
The question?
Can Baldomir pull off the Upset of the Year?
http://www.saddoboxing.com/boxing_fo...c,36400.0.html
I posted the link for you all...because I want you all to go back & re-read some of your opinions...read mine especially. The reason I say this? Well...because I'm basically on record as stating that Floyd wins the fight over 12 tuff fought rounds.
I want to officially switch my opinion on this one...OFFICIALLY.
I'd like to go on record right here & right now by saying...I don't have a gotdam clue how this one comes out.
I want to bail out like a sell out on this one.
I honestly believe that this is going to be one of the hardest fights that my guy has been in, but I also believe that Baldo does have a chance. I've planted me-self & watched their shared opponents & I've decided that it's going to be a fight...THE FIGHT.
Now I know that that goes back in years & is aiken to Hagler Hearns...I'm not trying to be flashy...but stop & think about what is to be gained & what is to be lost...this fight parrallels that one. Not that the opponents are comprable...but the stakes are very much as high.
As I stated on the previous link...I've been dismissing the talent, heart, and abilities of Baldomir. Can he continue to defy the odds as he has over the past year or two or has he just caught the right men at the right times?
I've pretty much said everything that I could over the past month regarding this match up...so...outside of backing off of my prediction...all I have to say is just rehash...but this is the run up to the DRBR...so I gotta say something.
All apologies aside...YES...I am a die hard fan of Mayweather...but anything can happen...& YES...I am beginning to warm to Baldomir and also his chances.
As I stated...again in the previous link...I have, over the past month I have begun to see this fight as a possible upset in the making...honestly.. .unbiasedly...how could one not?
Usually...I toss up my views on both fighters...the Wackster's Factors for the Fight...but I'm just going to pull up the questions that I posed on the other thread...no use in bringing up factors when there are still so many questions. If you agree, disagree, or just agree to disagree...which would be one of the other or two for ya brother...let's hash it out.
My Questions:
#1: Can Floyd continue to rise up with repeated success?
#2: Can Baldomir continue to hold his unbeaten streak against the cream of the crop?
#3: Can Floyd's hands, chin, and skills pull him through against today's equivelant of "the Cinderella Man"?
My answers:
#1: No. I don't think that he can. Favorite fighter or not...I don't go for the weight jumping...I think that it ruins careers down the road. I believe that Mayweather will beat Baldo in a tuff fight...but moving up to 154 & more...possibley facing Oscar or Mosley...things like that...I just don't see him pulling off anymore.
#2: No. I don't think that Baldo will defeat Floyd.
#3: Yes. Floyd's hands, chin, and skills pull him through this battle...the real question is...does everyone buy into the fact that the media is selling Baldo as today's equivelant of "the Cinderella Man"?
All will be answered Saturday November the 4th, 2006 in what will be one of the most important 12 rounders of both careers with the WBC, IBO, and the IBA Welterweight titles on the line. It's make or break for Baldomir and another chance for Floyd to prove that he is indeed the pound for pound elite fighter of the world.
As always...Wacko's up for the game & I can't wait to sit in on what quite possibley could turn out to be one of the FOTY's.
We shall see...as always...break out the chips & salsa & pick your poison of choice. It's fight night!
Cheers & koneecheewah bitches.

Re: Just Another One of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Mayweather vs Baldomir
I'm hoping Floyd by TKO, but voted Floyd by easy 12.
It's school time. If Floyd's elusiveness and defense is top notch, the rest plays itself out as expected.
No, I don't think Floyd rises in the weights unchecked, just as ODLH didn't as Hopkins proved.
But talking this fight ... clinic.
And I like Tata too, so it isn't meant as disrespect to him.

Re: Just Another One of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Mayweather vs Baldomir
I'm putting $50 on Baldy. For a 8 to 1 payday, I gotta do it. I voted for Baldomir by TKO. I guess that's more hoping than anything else, but I think Mayweather is due for a fall. I think Baldy will walk through Floyds punches and keep pressuring and pressuring. Sooner or later, Floyd will get caught.
-
Re: Just Another One of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Mayweather vs Baldomir
Floyd will get caught if/when he fights DLH.
Not this weekend.
C'mon now. Like Hopkins Tarver, y'all. Faith in your man, Wack!
I do think Floyd will be pressured, but at moments, and not as a hallmark of the fight.

funny if you look at this on paper it looks like its gonna be a walk over... but im with you wacka i also dont like the jumping up in weight.
He will be in with his first LEGIT welter this weekend and a tough fight might just be the thing he needs to keep him out of the ring against oscar or mosley because those guys would stuff him bigtime.
would much rather see him get back down in weight and fight hatton or cotto imo
a fight against witter would also intrest me
but if he does shine in this one WTF do i know hahahhaha
all i have to say is im looking forward to the rbr and..... COME ON BALDYYYYYYYY ;D

Re: Just Another One of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Mayweather vs Baldomir
I went for easy decision for Floyd.
Baldo's a good story, I like him, but I just don't see him as having the tools to beat Floyd. I don't see him as a bigger version of Castillo. Bigger, yes. But nowhere near as slick offensively, wider punches, slower. I expect his strength and pressure to keep Floyd from opening up as much offensively as he has against some guys lately, but I don't expect Baldo to win many rounds.
Would be an amazing story if he pulled it off though.
-
Re: Just Another One of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Mayweather vs Baldomir
I really hope Baldo wins, but he didn't look good the first half against Judah...
Then Judah lost his cool, when he got hit and Baldo took his chance like a champ...
That won't happen against Floyd...he is much better than Judah and I can't see
how Baldo can beat Floyd...
Winning or losing Baldo really deserved this payday...
GO BALDOMIR ...
-
Re: Just Another One of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Mayweather vs Baldomir
I went with Floyd by easy UD. As much as I want somebody to put PBF in his place I just dont think that Baldomir is the man to do it. Just call PBF bus driver cuz he will be taking Carlos to school. Absolute clinic on this one, dont see Baldo winning more than three rounds, I will be shocked if gets that many. I believe PBF has to much talent and abilities to let him into the fight. It will be like the Gatti fight except it will go the distance.
cc wacko been waiting a long time for this fight and cant wait to read your DRbR!!!!
-
Re: Just Another One of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Mayweather vs Baldomir
WOOT! I voted for Floyd by TKO. I think baldo is just going to keep coming forward the whole night and Floyd will have a field day peppering him with every punch in the book. Baldomir will be stubborn and determined and because of that will take a BIG beating and will be stopped in the 9th!
Personally, I'm pretty excited to see pbf in the ring again. Baldomir is the kind of fighter that Floyd will shine against. PBF had to take a different fight to Judah out of respect for judah's potential arsenal but against Bladomir I think he will SHINE like he did against gatti.

Re: Just Another One of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Mayweather vs Baldomir
ill be headed ti the bar for this one, in support of my main man baldometer!!!!!
NO FOURTH WBC BELT FOR MAYWEATHER >:mad

Re: Just Another One of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Mayweather vs Baldomir
I said Baldy wins but is robbed off the decision...it is not like we have seen that this year.

Re: Just Another One of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Mayweather vs Baldomir
M'I the only person that feels this is not a well put card?
I mean PBF-Baldo not super stars, PBF as of lately hes been getting more recognition.....
Anyway!! I wont be buying this PPV, Instead I'll be watching the Showtime card for FREE and IMO is about twice as better then the PPV card.... Thats just me......
So enjoy!!! the card, I probably get on line and look at the rd by rd but I don't see this a fight to pay to see I just don't :(

Its a big main event to me, for the legitimate welter title. I'll probably buy it, but what sucks is the undercard is flat out garbage. That's why I'm not real excited about this one, look at the undercard for Barrera-Juarez 2 with Gonzalez-Vasquez and Guzman-Barrios and then look at this crap with Guerrero-Salido and Paul Williams fighting an absolute no hoper.

Exactly, if the fight is any good I'll wait 'till a PBF loads it into YouTube and watch it there.... :)

Yep im with you on this one Saddo ;)
For all PBF should win this bout if he is to claim to be the P4P king, i just get the feeling Baldi can keep causing these so called upsets.
Got my Baldi t-shirt ready and alarm clock set. Should be getting aired round 4am in the UK ya think ?

Re: Just Another One of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Mayweather vs Baldomir
mayweather is going to win
-
Re: Just Another One of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Mayweather vs Baldomir
I voted for PBF by easy decision.
That being said, I hope Baldomir tears him a new one. I was pulling for Gatti against PBF, and made a lot of arguments about heart and pressure and their adverse effects on PBF's game...but we all know how that turned out. I think this one will be the same scenario, although Baldomir does have a better chance, in my opinion.
Go Baldy!

I agree with you CutMeMIck I will have to wait until the weekend after or so to watch this one for free. The thing is, I just completely hate the thought of giving PBF so much of my money. Had he been fighting Hatton or someone that would be getting a good cut would be different...

Re: Just Another One of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Mayweather vs Baldomir
Gone are the days when a bulling style is the style to beat Mayweather.
I think the only way to beat Floyd is to be able to match him in speed. He can't do that.
Floyd will see Baldomir's shots all night.
Corner stoppage 7th or 8th seeing as Carlos can't land anything effective and Floyd's pecking him all night. Floyd TKO.
-
Re: Just Another One of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Mayweather vs Baldomir
Excellent as always Wacks!!!! :coolclick: I am already feeling the butterflies of anticipation....
I have been a broken record about this and I am trying to look at it objectively for some time.....but I will post my thoughts again.
Floyd is on the presipis of his prime he is without a doubt the real deal..He has it all.
Superior technical skills
Super Boxing Intelligence
Unbelievable Poise
Multi-Dimensional LockDown Defense
Speed
Power
Quickness
Mental Toughness
Reflexes
Athleticism
Crafty
Unreal Stamina
Boxing Pedigree
One hell of a mean streak
Focus
Chin
He is probably PFP Boxings ultimate Predator..He uses every single ounce of his attributes to the fullest extent and he does not cut corners and Preperaion is second to none and takes Boxing as serious as Anyone ever has.
Baldomir is well a cute human interest story who deserves his taste of success and the good life he has been able to provide his wife and children and beat some decent competition along the way ..Other than that he is a Journeyman and a C level fighter at best.
Sure he is a big man but that really dosent have an impact most of the time when you have a slick technical figher opposing you, Let alone a Floyd Mayweather.. Baldomir is mediocre at best he lacks Speed, Power, Footwork...He is determined and is high pressure and tries to absorb 2 to give 1 and will not let go of what he has worked hard obtain..
I look at it this way..Floyd is a mean Bastard and will subtley rough up Baldo like others opponents in the clinch...Gatti was outboxing Baldo and making him miss..Floyd will make him look like a statue in Central Park..If Baldo is gonna try to absorb punches to give them Floyd will give him 3 and wont be standing there to get 1...
I also dont believe the argument that Baldomir's sheer determination will pull him thru...Floyd is a freak he gets up and runs 5 miles thru the cold desert at midnight....often wakes up Leonard Ellerbee to work out at 3-4am so you tell me who is determined and has the mental edge...
Floyd is gonna just plain outclass Baldomir and coast thru this fight...I cant even give Baldy a punchers chance since he is not even a puncher
But even if Baldi gives Floyd trouble initially with his style, Floyd might give a few of the early rounds away till he adjusts and then coasts the rest of the way...

I voted for Baldo by UD or SD, just my gut feeling...and another thing I kinda like the underdog types....

Re: Just Another One of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Mayweather vs Baldomir
Welcome back to your favourite, my favourite, everyone's favourite Drunken round by round by the one the only Wackosumnumbers.
I can't wait for this day of fighting, and personally, I've voted for the result I want to happen, rather than what I think will happen.
Personally, I want Baldomir to win. I like him as a person, and I think he did really well against a gutsy fighter in Gatti, and showed that he is absolutely as durable as they come. Who knows, he might actually do quite well, but at the end of the day, I feel that Mayweather will outwork Baldo for a pts victory, by 3 or 4 rounds. I want Baldo to knock him down, as his personality is not exactly one that is easy to embrace and he's a hard man to like. But all the evidence points to a Floyd Mayweather win.
Anyhow, I'll be right here with you wack, and I reckon this will be one to get the most posts of all time.

As I said on the other thread...if Baldo were to win...it couldn't happen to a more deserving human.
Baldo comes off as an everyman. He seems like a good dude.
Ofcourse I don't want my guy to lose...but Baldo has grown on me...& he has been shining of late.
This is gonna be a goody I think.

Good points by both...but I still want to see my guy go through some hell (that doesn't involve illegal shots) with Baldo.
They & we as fans deserve at the very least that.

CC back atcha Wack...
Personally we got one hell of a fighting weekend on the television, with Carl Johannesson v Femi Fehintola as the starter on Friday night, and we can move on to Saturday night (Afternoon in the states) with Alex Arthur v Sergio Palomo, and then everyone's favourite part of a meal, the dessert, with Floyd against Baldomir, and man, will I be full come 6am saturday night when i finally get to bed :p

Re: Just Another One of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Mayweather vs Baldomir
Is everyone buying this card??? I think it looks really bad! I love watching P4P Picasso lil Floyd in action though, and I know he wil win,the question is will he live up to his word and firstly go toe to toe and second stop Baldo. You know,I honestly believe he will. Baldo has been stopped before right so he's not invincible and the amount of leather he is going to be eating!! Floyd is not Gatti or Judah, this could be realy real ugly!

One fan is buying this card to see a dazzling performance by Mayweather. The others are buying this card to see if Mayweather finally gets his mouth shut.

I think that the card sucks ass...but I will never NEVER miss the opportunity to watch my bwoy work it out.
Which I think that he will...but I honestly want Baldo to give Floyd a fight. Nothing would please me more to see Baldo bullying my guy & then my guy taking it to the mat.
Agreed...Floyd is not Gatti or Judah...but I still think that Baldo can make somethings happen.
This could be realy real ugly for both!

Re: Just Another One of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Mayweather vs Baldomir
I think mayweather will land some shots on baldomir that will make the crowd ooh and ahh, but Baldomir will keep coming and try to crowd mayweather and rough him up along the ropes. Mayweather will tie baldomir up on the inside and weather the storm. I dont think it will be nice/ neat/ pretty boxing lesson many people think it will be by Floyd, but i also dont think it will be the stalk and kill most people would like to see from baldomir. I do look for baldomir (even though he doesnt seem like a dirty fighter and he appears to be all class) to let it all hang out resulting in some borderline tactics. Look for floyd to complain and get little sympathy untill is forced as many people (refs included) would like to see floyd in a scrap... and some others would like nothing more than to tout Baldomir as the next braddock/ cinderella man... as boxing needs a hero now more than ever.. and this is the situation for one to be crowned.
I still think floyd outclasses him... not easily.. but enough.

Baldomir has been stopped on cuts probably. But never like a knockout I don't think.

Baldi is going to make Floyd work hard but he will get a clear if hard earned UD.

I keep on saying it but this is going to be a onesided beat down.
Good luck to Carlos, he deserves his shot and I hope he has a big payday.
At least with the money he can start buying additional stock for his feather duster business.
Perhaps he can negotiate a contract with some mop and bucket firm and sell those on the streets of Argentina.
They could have a picture of Floyd on the side of the bucket and a caption saying 'Mayweather wiped the floor with me'. :P
