Calzaghe's Feb Mega Fight Manfredo?
Let the Calzaghe bashing commence ;D
Calzaghe to fight Manfredo in Feb?
[b]By Ant Evans: Rumours have reached SecondsOut that IBF/WBO super-middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe has been lined up to fight reality TV star Peter Manfredo Junior in February.
The fight will be held in the UK and broadcast in the US by HBO.
Manfredo is well-known in the US, having come in runner-up in the first series of the boxing reality TV show 'the Contender'. The 26-3 (12KOs) Rhode Island native was beaten by Sergio Mora in the $1million finale and then again in a closer rematch.

Re: Calzaghe's Feb Mega Fight Manfredo?
This under no circumstances would be a mega fight.

Re: Calzaghe's Feb Mega Fight Manfredo?
If this fight happens than Calzcrappy will be showing his true colors again. Yellow.
-
Re: Calzaghe's Feb Mega Fight Manfredo?
Joe simple hasnt got long left in this game, period. Fighting Sakio Bika and Peter ManfookingFredo do not proove he is anything at all. Especially when he claims KESSLER isnt a big enough fight, if this happens its an absolute joke.
-
Re: Calzaghe's Feb Mega Fight Manfredo?
If he doesn't fight Kessler I will be very upset... I'm already disillusioned by Hatton...
-
Re: Calzaghe's Feb Mega Fight Manfredo?
Joe's coward ass has been ducking big fights his whole career. When ever one gets mentioned, some thing always comes up for it not to happen. Hell the Lacy fight was postponed twice. Ottke, Jones, Hopkins, Johnson. All fights that were talked about, but never fought. Now it's happening again with Kessler. Joe is scared. The man has so much yellow in him he should be a fuckin banana. How much more proof do people need?

Likewise here....If Manfredo happens then that is a joke...
-
Re: Calzaghe's Feb Mega Fight Manfredo?
I wouldnt worry about it, Manfredo has been linked to fighting every decent fighter in the 168 lb division.
We all know that Manfredo's contract with the Contender wont allow him to lose to a non Contender fighter so you can rest assured that his next fight will be against another no hoper. They are saving him for the rubber match Sergio Mora, where he can safely lose then.
As for Calzaghe there is no point even speculating as we all know when it is announced it will be against somebody none of us have ever heard of anyways.
even Calzaghe vs Manfredo sounds too good to be true.
Expect Calzaghe vs completely unknown Somalian fighter with a 21-2 record who has never fought outside of Africa before. ^-^

Well said ;)
Warren has promised "mega-fights" for JC and this is far from it,he also claied Joe would go stateside (he's surely running out of time to do so) and fight which is what the whole boxing world wants.
This is far from confirmed info anyway so i'd hold fire everyone till it (if it) is.
Hattons promotional team are Sh*t and way out of their league, they just don't carry ANY weight stateside.
WTF is Joe going Backward for if this is true?
Should be Kessler then the USA.
-
Re: Calzaghe's Feb Mega Fight Manfredo?
So if this is true, Bika wasn't a tune-up. He was at best a tune-up for a tune-up. Maybe a tune-up for a tune-up for a tune-up.... maybe leading straight to retirement.
-
Re: Calzaghe's Feb Mega Fight Manfredo?
I like Manfredo and think he's a good boxer, but his style is tailor made for Calzaghe.
Joe would slaughter him. Another easy fight to pad the record.

Why fight a fwockin loser?!?!?!
Why not fight Mora? Let Mora move up & fight Joe & that might MIGHT make sense...but Manfredo? Puh-fwockin-leeze.
I love Joe & alla that mess...but his career is starting to smell like a fresh cut turd at the bottom of a toilet.
Fight an actual ranked 168lb fighter...there's one out there hell start @ #10 & back up.

Kess is injured...or whatever...but I truly don't believe, nor have I ever, that he would fight Kessler.
Slowly losing faith in my guy Joe.

I've been wondering...do these fwock's even listen to their fans...or have they just lost their balls? Manfredo & Urango? WTF?
Waste of precious time for both Joe & Hatton.
...and people rip on Floyd. This my friends is laughable!

I think they rip on floyd for some of his peformances mate ;)

Manfredo is no longer under contract with the contender. He can do what he wants.

Re: Calzaghe's Feb Mega Fight Manfredo?
if this is true then its absolute bull shit. manfredo is a good name to have on your record but fuck me joe shouldnt be thinkin about that shit or fighting 'contenders' like that at this point in his career. he should be fighting kessler and unifying. or the kessler fight should be next
-
Re: Calzaghe's Feb Mega Fight Manfredo?
I'm glad to see we all agree on what BS this is!
-
Re: Calzaghe's Feb Mega Fight Manfredo?
Joe hasnt got time to be fighting the likes of Manfredo. The bika fight was ment to be a tune up fight but if he fights Manfredo well you can only say this is another tune up.If he is to be reconized as a pound 4 pound fighter he shouldnt even be considering these sort of fights. The whole world want to see the 4 belts unified. He needs to get off his a*** and start to train for kessler.

Re: Calzaghe's Feb Mega Fight Manfredo?
Well Manfredo is a big NAME American, right?
They've been saying HBO and them are looking for a big name American for ages...Kessler's never been on HBO has he?
And remember it says RUMOURS ;D

Being a name like that doesn't do anything for Joe. Peter holds no titles, he's not undefeated, he's not a big payday and his style will simply showcase Joe's speed. I can't remember a time when a fighter only had one fight that made sense as much as Calzaghe vs. Kessler, you just can't argue against that. There is simply only one fight that matters for anything at SMW right now and that's Calzaghe vs. Kessler.

Kessler did get 30 secs on HBO after Calzaghe-Bika. HBO bought the rights to the whole fight, sent a production-team to Copenhagen, and then only showed 30 secs. I personally suspect Warren had something to do with it (not wanting his fighter to be overshadowed).
On the other hand. Has Joe ever had more than that one fight (and what a fight it was ;D) shown on HBO?
But yeah - Calzaghe can fight Manfredo. He can get his money and he might even get his exposure.
But he sure as hell won't get much respect for this.
-
Re: Calzaghe's Feb Mega Fight Manfredo?
If this happens, it's just crap. I love Manfredo and I want to see him progress, but Calzaghe will destroy him utterly. As for Calzaghe (who I also love), if you take this fight, when a Kessler match can be made, you are just a flatout bee-ach.
That being said, I'd certainly watch the fight :)

Re: Calzaghe's Feb Mega Fight Manfredo?
hey dumdane my pint got spilled in the pub on monday and i think warran had something to do with that too. frank warran is a bit of a tosser but i think what ever was on the HBO card was out of his hands. if the calzaghe bikka fight had ended earlier then its more than likely that HBO would have showed some more of the Kessler Beyer fight.

FW thinks it makes sense. :-\
FW on Manfredo-Calzaghe - “Manfredo makes sense for a number of reasons. HBO will be televising that fight, so I’d like it to be a high-profile American - and ‘The Contender’ is watched on both sides of the Atlantic.”
Taking that fight overseas, of course, would mean abandoning the hard-core fan base a Manfredo fight in Providence might be expected to generate.
“That doesn’t matter,” Warren said. “The opponent wouldn’t be bringing the crowd to Cardiff, Joe would. We might get 20,000-30,000 in Millennium Stadium for that one.”

Now you're making me think Calzaghe didn't stop Bika early ON PURPOSE - just to keep Kessler from getting exposure ;D

I guess the question is this...........What would Manfredo bring to the table that is better than Kessler?
Manfredo (while he is gaining momentum in popularity) is far from being a big name in America. He is
best recognized as the guy that lost on the contender.
And if the opponent doesn't matter for draw reasons, why not Kessler? C'mon Joe unify, UNITE THE CLANS

Kessler might fuck this up -
“We’d want to do Taylor in late June or early July, probably in New York,” Warren said.
Reality TV show "winner" wont. And as you can see he's just as big/bigger a draw, apparently. :-\
-
Re: Calzaghe's Feb Mega Fight Manfredo?
I personally wouldnt mind seeing this fight if it happens on HBO or Showtime. Manfredo is in my opinion the better of the fighters coming off that show the Contender and i really think he has more talent than say, Sergio Mora, who totally robbed Manfredo in their last fight. It would be amazing if he were to upset Calzaghe (although that is a long, long, long shot) and I think it would even be entertaining to watch Calzaghe tear him limb from limb too, as long as im not payin $40 for it! Bring on the pain!!!
-
Re: Calzaghe's Feb Mega Fight Manfredo?
Denis Inkin, Lucian Bute, Carl Froch,
They are all bigger fights than Manfredo.
With Kessler the creme de la creme opponent. Although i am sure the WBC has insidted on the Andrade fight being made.
Librade Andrade is a Golden-Boy fighter and thus it would be a good one for the states IMO.

Re: Calzaghe's Feb Mega Fight Manfredo?
Yeah but Manfredo is more well known than those other guys. Even more people know who he is than Kessler. This lady i work with knows who Manfredo is and doesnt know who Calzaghe is. Dudes got all this exposure from The Contender. It might make Joe more well known in other circles and to the more casual boxing fan if he took this fight. Work as little as possible for greater benefits? Manfredo might even be a smart choice from a business point of view if you look at it that way...
-
Re: Calzaghe's Feb Mega Fight Manfredo?
I wanna see Calzaghe beat kessler and unify the SMW... But most of you don't seem to be looking outside the box, if they are looking for a taylor fight in june/july next year then it would naturaly make sense for Calzaghe to beat a 'well known' boxer form the us in impressive fasion first... you can throw all other names in if you want, but thats for the select few who follow boxing fanaticaly, read any rticle on the net they can, watch clips on youtube, live on forums...
It wouldn't shock me at all if manfredo was a bigger name in te US atm than calzaghe lol, and for joe to go and destory him in explosive fasion would then allow HBO to set up a big PPV with him and taylor/Wright next yr...
As a fan, i want the Kessler fight, but there is no saying if he doesn't fight him now that he wont next year? HBO an interest in Calzaghe now, it wudn't shock me now if they are having some infulence in his next fight 'coz they want him v taylor/wright, providing they give kessler enough exposure, get his name bigger in the states would lead again to another PPV for them after the taylor fight...
I just don't get why everyone is str8 on the bandwagon of hate when someone makes a post thats right now, nothing but a rumor, i mean wasn't it Manfredo who was going to be fighting calzaghe and not Bika? wasn't he then meant to be fighting RJJ? and god knows who else... same with Mayweather, some lil rumor is posted and BANG they are all out in numbers posting hate, adleast w8 untill sumin is signed?
Also making mention to a Manfredo fight will make the Kessler team sweat, coz if they are as into the Calzaghe fight as they claim, they will be lessinclined to make any silly demands if a fight HBO are more than happy with takes place for calzaghe.

On the counter point would you see him as being in a better place to get a fight with Taylor/Wright as, the guy that beat Lacy and Manfredo, or the guy that beat Lacy and is the Linear SMW champ?

cc man, to many people need just a rumour as an excuse to start hating!
I think its funny people thinking JC is scared of Kessler, before he beat Lacy, Lacy was an unbeatable
man who was going to beat everyone, JC wasn't a bit afraid of him or anyone else he's ever fought.
If he wasn't scared of Lacy why would he be scared of anyone else?
I'd love to see him fight Kessler, problem is he leaves his fight choices in the hands of Frank Warren
who's a c**t and over protects all his fighters.
JC may not have got the big fights throughout his carear, but those who say he's scared
of certain fighters are just hating on him

will he has already got the Ring mag belt, so to the 'bible' of boxing, hes the best SMW; And yeah, Manfredo prolly wud be better than Kessler for that fight. Would mean joe gets good exposure in the states, depending how he does, could determin how much HBO are willing to pay, if it will be PPV or not...
Like i said, id prefer he beats Kessler next, but untill he retires/moves up ill w8 and see. Personaly i think by the time Joe is done fighting Taylor, Lacy wuda Knocked Kessler out and taken the betls.
Hes had a long career, his hands are shot and w8ed for god knows how long for this type of exposure, can any of you honestly blame him for possibly taking advantage of a megafight, big pay day with the likes of taylor/wright? he beats kessler, kesslers a bum. But if he beats Taylor or wright, sure alot of you will have your excuses, but his credibility will go sky high, he would be thought of in the top2-5 P4P world wide and banked a big ass payday.

i think either way he could get the fight with Taylor or Wright. a whole lot of people will tune in to see Manfredo fight Joe, and not just boxing fans. A lotta people dont know Joe here, but he is more well known than Kessler and is recognized as the true SMW champ regardless of if he fights him. Of course i would respect a win over Kessler more than Manfredo, but i think he can get the fight against Taylor signed either way, and with a lot less difficulty against Peter Manfredo Jr. Lol. I dont know something sadistic in me just wants to see a what a really really good fighter can do to one from reality TV. Not that Manfredo isnt for real, but he isnt anywhere near ready for Joe Calzaghe.
-
Re: Calzaghe's Feb Mega Fight Manfredo?
Manfredo was fighting in a lower weight class on the Contender.
Manfredo is moving up and looking real good against hand picked opposition. I like Joe C. He is not the most stylish boxer in the division but he is huge over seas.
I am not knocking either of these fighters. Let them fight and I hope they both make some good money. To me it would be an interesting fight. What I don't like, is that Joe has been saying he wants to retire soon, so I would much rather see him fight some one else but if the Contender folks can set up a fight with Calzaghe, I give the Contender folks a lot of credit because they came from a reality show and are now making big fights with their little stable. Who would have ever thought the Contender show would even get this far?
