Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Pacquiao Morales III
Hello again my fellow forum goers!
Once more I'm throwing the DRBR up a bit early because I think that this one's in need of some serious discussion.
Once again we come to a crossroads in boxing...& oh what an intersection this will be.
The question to be answered...what happens when to warriors collide again for the third time & who get's wrecked?!?!?
Yeah...I know...that was one "wack-assed" analogy...but I'm known for such...that & being the village drunk. Heh heh heh.
Coming up on Saturday November the 18th, 2006 it's time to break out the shovels & start digging.
First & foremost, we get to dig into our pockets & wallets again to see whether or not Erik Morales (52 fights, 48 wins with 34 ko's, & 4 losses) can dig down deep enough to find "El Terrible" once again as he faces his most daunting challenge to date...another rubber match.
Morales steps up for the third & most likely final shot at Manny Pacquiao (47 fights, 42 wins with 33 ko's, 3 losses, & 2 draws) the current WBC International Super Featherweight Champ...not only is Pacquiao the champion, he's also one of the most devastating punchers in the division.
Anywho, as last fights go...this is going to be one to remember. It's all or nothing for both men...but more so for the veteran.
I'm just gonna cut right to the chase because I got a lot on my mind for this one...I present to you the Wackster's Factors of the Fight.
Read 'em...mull 'em over...break 'em apart...agree with 'em or disagree with 'em...but let's discuss this one to the bitter end.
Factors for & against Morales:
#1: The Mental Aspect. Quite simply...I think that this is truely against my guy. Everyone knows I'm a dyed in the wool Morales fan...but I'm also a realist. Last January Morales felt something that he has never before felt in a career of 52 fights...a devastating defeat...not to mention one that came along with a knockout. Never before has Morales been so handily defeated. Sure Erik's lost before...but never knocked out...much less truly dropped. Honestly...I think that this is wrong fight for Morales to be taking at this stage in his career. Too many wars eventually take their toll on a man...Morales is no different. For years Erik was known for his durability...his invincibility. Everyone is mortal, that's a fact of life. Pacquiao stamped, sealed, & delivered that little wake up call via a 10th round TKO that was preceded by a thorough beating. Mentally...I just don't believe that Morales is ready for another loss...no matter how hard he's been training. Physically...he might be tight as a drum...but unfortunately...I just don't believe that he's been preparing himself upstairs enough. A knockout is tuff to overcome...especially for some one as egotistical as Erik is.
#2: The Physical Aspect. I've always thought that Morales was an incredible physical force...but again...I lean towards the fact that he's been in too many wars. Another thing...for all his skill & power, he hasn't knocked out an opponent in almost four years. That's a bit troublesome to me too. Granted...he's fought some tough cookies...but I just think that Erik is fading in several departments. That being said:
#3: Heart. Say what you will about Morales but like him or not...he's a warrior & he's got more heart than anyone in the division...hell...maybe even the sport. The question is...how long or how far can your heart carry you in boxing? It's done him well for fourteen years as a pro...so who's to say that there's not enough left to spark Pacquiao out. Going on heart...Erik has the advantage.
#4: Abilities. No doubt Morales is the more skilled boxer of the two...the question here is...will he be Saturday night? I know that that might sound ignorant...but I wrestle with the fact that I think this could be Morales fight to win or lose. Make sense? No? Allow me. Morales has a vast array of punches in his arsenal. He's fast & he throws wicked combinations. He outboxed Pacquiao in their first fight pretty easily...but...BUT...Morales get's caught up in "El Terrible" mode & it often goes south for him. If Morales uses his head & boxes instead of fights...he'll win this fight, but if he get's caught up in the bullshit like he did in the 12th round of their first fight...he's fwocked. HE CAN NOT WITHSTAND PAC'S POWER. Many Morales fans said that the knockout came more from stamina...well...I'm a Morales fan...& that knockout came from a vicious salvo of well placed power punches.
#5: Age, stamina, wear, & tear. Morales turned pro when he was 16 years old & he's 29 or 30 now. It's been a brilliant career for Morales & he's done a lot for boxing...but over the last 8 years Morales has been in more than a handful of what boxing fans & the media call "classic fights" and "epic battles". I couldn't agree more...but in all reality...it's added to his age. He may be 29...but he aint a young 29 anymore. Erik's been thrown in with the best of them, but he's often come out battered. No one will ever forget his life long rivalry with future "Hall of Famer" Marco Antonio Barrera...nor will they forget his clashes with Pacquiao...for better or worse...but when is enough enough. Morales's stamina has started to show weak spots...especially against the two above mentioned names & also against Raheem. For safety's sake & for Morales's sake...it might be time to settle down, get fat, & start spending some of that hard earned money.
Factors for & against Pacquiao:
#1: The Mental Aspect. This is a tuffy for me. At first glance...you gotta give the mental edge to Pac. He did just do what no man has done before...he stopped & dropped the great Erik Morales. Six months later he battered & dropped the durable Oscar Larios over 12 rounds. In 2003 he stopped Marco Antonio Barrera in an incredible toe to toe battle that resulted in a 10th round TKO for the Baby Faced Assasin & a sky rocket in Pac's career. In his very next bout he would face the highly respected rugged Featherweight Champ Juan Manuel Marquez in what what many considered the fight of the year. Marquez was dropped 3 times in the first round but amazing fought his way to a draw with Pacquiao. All along the wayside of his career, Manny has shocked & stopped some of the best. The hype that has built around Pac is seemingly unsurmountable...this is where it get's tuff for me to fully give Pac the edge. Since dismantling Morales, Pacquiao has gained sponsors, starred in commercials, a bad movie, & picked up a hellacious amount of distractions along with way. The question is...are these distractions distracting or is Pac immune to it all? It seems that he's able to manage & juggle all the fame & fortune that he's amassed of late...but if Morales is as determined as he's preaching...the most minute distraction or lack of focus...well...Pac might end up fried, dyed, & laid to the side like that Philly chicken he's repping! Heh heh heh. Still...I give Pac the edge...but you never know. In boxing...anything can & will happen.
#2: The Physical Aspect. Edge here...hands down. Pac is ALWAYS in shape & he's got one hell of a cracking punch. There's really nothing left to say here...unless ofcourse he hasn't been training full on...which I highly doubt. But...if there is that shadow of a doubt...he better not be soft in the body because Moraels is known to drop a man with a body shot. Shot in the dark...but you never know.
#3: Heart. I think that quite often it's written on Pac's face when things aren't going his way. It was painfully obvious in the first loss to Morales & when his power had failed him against Marquez it was even more noticeable. Not sure if this would be heart related...but he does show a bit of weakness when he can't close the show. Morales would do well to capitalize on this little factor.
#4: Abilities. As I said above...Morales is the more skilled boxer of the two...but Pac has been working on his "one trick poney syndrome". Of late, Freddie Roach has clued Manny in to the fact that he has two hands instead of one & Pac's developing quite an arsenal. That being said...I believe that the "Manilla Ice" will be thawed against a fully prepped Morales. Edge to "El Terrible" on the abilities factor.
#5: Age, stamina, wear, & tear. At age 27, Pacquiao comes across with the energy & stamina of a teenager. Manny seems to have one speed & one speed only: FULL THROTTLE! Having seen very little wear & tear coupled with a pretty strong chin...this one goes to Manny. Pacquiao has gone the distance Morales, Marquez, Barrera (10 rounds), & Larios...all of whom can crack...all of whom can box. I don't see that changing now...unless ofcourse he's gotten buried under his after hours life style & alla that fried chicken. Heh heh heh. All joking aside...Pacquiao's a dynamo & I gotta lean towards him on this factor also.
In the end...Morales has the edge in abilities & heart. Will that carry him for 12 rounds against the one man that stopped him out of 52 fights? As a boxer, Morales has nothing left to prove to his fans, he's loved & respected...but I'd imagine that he's in a position that, as a man, he needs some answers for himself & quite possibley...this is a make or break fight for his career.
At the risk of sounding repetitive...again...being a Morales fan...I want Morales to win...but I believe that he's seen his best days. I'd love for him to rise to the occassion & TKO Pacquiao...not because I'm a hater...but...well...let's face it...it's time for some redemption. Morales needs a big win to put an exclamtion mark on a glorious career.
I'll go ahead & make my pick...with my head, not my heart.
Split decision by Manny Pacquiao over a hard fought 12 rounds.
As always...Wacko's Drunken Round by Round will be here for those that are either to tight...to unfortunate...or just smart enough to wait for the freebie two weeks down the road. I'll keep it fair & as on point as anyone in my drunken state can.
So...break out the chips & the salsa...kick back & get comfy...fight night will soon arrive & we can all toss back a few cold ones...or twenty.
Cheers...& koneecheewah bitches.

Re: Early Bird Special!!! Wackos's Drunken Round by Round Pacquiao Morales III
;D woo got the first vote in, and that vote is Morales by decision. For ages I've been saying that Pacquiao is the man, I predicted an 11th KO in the last encounter for Pacquiao,BUT Morales is the definition of a Mexican Warrior, a fighter through and through, and for Morales this is everything. Pacquiao on the other hand, has his celebrity on his plate, politics, pool, lack of sleep, and a lacklustre performance against Larios (granted, even a below par pac performance can be a great one) all adds up to Morales UD for me.
-
Re: Early Bird Special!!! Wacko's Drunken Round by Round Pacquiao Morales III
I got to go with Morales by decision, although I think this will be a war. Morales needs this he can't lose both huge rubber matches in his career. I haven't seen anything about training in the PAC camp. In the meanwhile Erik has been training the hardest i've ever seen him.
-
Re: Early Bird Special!!! Wacko's Drunken Round by Round Pacquiao Morales III
cc wacko for the early start, cant wait for this barn burner. I have to go with my man Morales by UD. With the winning brand gloves he wont have the power to stop Pacman, but he has the better boxing skills. I see him going back to what won him the first fight.

Have you been there in Wild Card Gym in California where Manny spars 12 rounds everyday w/ 3 different fighters? Of course, you haven't seen Manny train because you're too focused on Morales' weight reduction. It's the other way around, Morales is more focused on losing weight than in technical training. Manny does road work every morning. You should see his video in YouTube.
Well, I just hope Morales is completely fit to last 12 rounds w/ Pac otherwise he's goner via KO in 8 rounds.

What is the difference between Morales in the 2nd fight and Morales in the coming fight? He had nothing to bring on the table but his fighting heart, that's all. He had no tune up match. Unlike Pac when he fought Larios. Erik probably is afraid to sport another loss before this fight w/ Pac. Again, he has weight problems. That's an emotional burden on his part. He has to eat less and train at the same time. Oh boy, that's close to insurmountable. Pac is focused w/ training ever since he was in the Phils. As I've said, the better conditioned fighter will win this fight. I don't see that in Morales. Pac is the man.
-
Re: Early Bird Special!!! Wacko's Drunken Round by Round Pacquiao Morales III
.
PAC by KO/TKO... "Velocity" will be the difference in this fight... I think Erik can't handle the velocity of PAC's punches coming at him... Erik can't possibly see where the fast punches will be coming from...
.

.
He saw & nullified them in their first fight...if Morales is on point...it'll be the other way around.
A lot of this depends on what Morales has left...Morales took it to Pac's ass in the first fight...who knows...maybe he can be everything that he used to be...but I just don't believe that time's on his side anymore.
-
Re: Early Bird Special!!! Wacko's Drunken Round by Round Pacquiao Morales III
Heres hoping Eriks fully focused and the rest (though I don't think it was a long enough rest IMO, cause he was training within 1 month after the second fight thats not resting) and the HEART hes shown throughout his career will prevail.

Re: Early Bird Special!!! Wacko's Drunken Round by Round Pacquiao Morales III
This is really such a great fight and event, the more I think about it... Such a great trilogy it could potentially be. I want to pick Morales by decision.. I hope that will be the result, there is so much that is unknown about his condition though.. With the signs he has been showing in his last 2 fights, you think he may just not have it left... But then you hear how hard he is training and how badly he want's this fight.. Who the hell knows?? Is he just past his best? Can we assume that he simply didn't train hard for Raheem, or hard enough for the rematch with Pac.... Is he still able to fight at a terrific pace for 12 rounds?? It didn't look like it in either of his last two fights. Granted though, against Pac even in the rematch, it seemed that a MOrales who was full of energy, had his legs and speed working at their peak, could outbox and outfight Manny. I believe that should Morales come in great shape, if he can turn back the clock, and his recent problems with conditiong.. Picking him by decision is logical. That is what this fight depends on. Had Morales waited until he had began training and perhaps taken a couple of tune up fights I would almost be confident that he could take Pac this time.. But the fact is that's not the fighter he is.. and that could either be his edge or his downfall. He signed on to fight this rubber match practically a week after taking his first TKO loss to the PAcman.... Clearly he is as proud a fighter as they come, but at the same time that leaves every aspect of his condition up in the air.. How are we supposed to know he's going to be in great shape and back to prime form, when he clearly would have taken the fight no matter what?? It's very possible that no matter what he does he simply can't be as good as he once was.. And that is certainly just as likely as Morales being back to great form, imo. I can't even make a pick on this fight.. But my mind is telling me Pac by TKO one way or the other. If MOrales wins this, it will be a truly all time great achievement.

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnn nnnnn,I don't know whether to be happy because this has to be one of the best trilogies I have ever seen or to be sad because it COULD be the end of the legend that is El Terriblleee,Erik Morales,a living legend and true great. Wack,my man,you nailed the points again beautifully,CC in 24 for you. My head tells me the smart thing would be to go with Pac,he has the advantages of age etc etc and Morales has been in more wars with a higher level of competition, the psychological factor Wack pointed out about EM being ko'ed(although it was body shots,he still has the best chin in boxing) and all the other factors but I don't know,my heartmI just refuse to believe that this is the end of Morales.
If he does lose I want him to take Pac to hell and back! I want him to beat Pac's ass and yes,I do like Manny and I don't mean to offend Pacs fans especially my boys who are big pacfans(you know who you are) but I just want Morales to win soooooooooo badly!
In closing,I'd like to say that we,the fights fans, are the winners here. This won't be a pussy PPV fight, where we are sold bullshit in order to buy the fight, this will be a real boxing fight with honour, power, heart, strength, skill, speed and 2 of the biggest hearts and best fighters in boxing going to war.
If Erik wins this,he IS p4p number1.Ditto for Pac.

I went for Manny decision, but its a VERY VERY VERY hard fight to call. Im only 52% odd favouring pac, very slightly.

Pacman has too much for morales and i think he'll stop him late and leave his face a bloody mess 8)

Agreed...all the way around babe.

Thanks babe. :coolclick: right back. I do me best.
I'm sticking to the psychological factor of it all though. Morales has a great chin...but that was body & head work babe. The 8-10 round Pac totally battered the North & the South of Morales...head to toe.

Agreed again. I'd love to see them both drop each other...& nothing against Pac...because the kid is great for boxing...but I'd love to see Morales just destroy him & then retire.
Nothing left to prove...well...maybe a closer against Marquez.

Not so sure I agree there.
P4P #1 is already cemented with Mayweather...just because he's disliked doesn't mean he get's the bump. He'e undefeated & he just shut out the 147 recognized man & holds 3 titles. I don't know of many other multiple title holders that are running around undefeated.
If Pac does indeed win...he definently takes the step up...but if Wright beats Quartey...I don't know...it's a tuff call...I suppose Pac jumps Wright due to the fact that Wright drew with Taylor...that being said...Pac's still gotta win & win big IWO.

Personally...if it were me...I'd pass on this fight. Neither one of these fighters are all that...I wouldn't pay to go to this one...& if someone gave me a ticket...I'd either burn it or whipe my ass with it.
That should pretty much clear that one up for you. ;D

Re: Early Bird Special!!! Wacko's Drunken Round by Round Pacquiao Morales III
.
One thing is clear from the poll... Many (60%) picked PAC to win via KO/TKO and very few thinks Morales can win this fight via KO/TKO... :)

Re: Early Bird Special!!! Wacko's Drunken Round by Round Pacquiao Morales III
I truly think that PacMan is gonna destroy EM late. I think that the physical beating that EM has taken over his last couple fights will catch up with him again. I know EM has had time off but we all know that both fighters are gonna connect a lot with big time punches. Manny looks like he can still take it punishment, I don't think EM can.

CC back my man. I'd have PBF at number 2 because although you are 100% correct in stating his accomplishments for which he should get nothing but praise,I think tkoing MAB AND beating the LEGEND Morales twice if he wins plus how dominant he was at 122 AND considering he started off at what 112-115,Pac deserves it and if Morales wins, his resume is the best of any fighter living,3 weight world champ and ALLL THE ODDS in the world are against him to lose. That's my thinking but hey,PBF is a great fighter too so I can see where you are coming from Wack.

Personally...if it were me...I'd pass on this fight. Neither one of these fighters are all that...I wouldn't pay to go to this one...& if someone gave me a ticket...I'd either burn it or whipe my a** with it.
That should pretty much clear that one up for you. ;D
but i guys i really wish i was able to go to this fight man! talk is its gonna be fight of the year! now only if i could afford a ticket?

I'd like this matchup if I didn't worry so much about my boy's health.
Because I know that even with all the odds stacked against him, he's going to go
out in a blaze of glory.

Yeah!! I agree but you know what Gyrokai thats the way this game goes... You just gotta tighten up your balls and take the good with the bad...
I'm worried but theres no other way to go about this, then fight. Theres no options here, he fights and thats that.
I was watching his fight against Zaragoza a while ago, and was watching as he the faster, younger, harder puncher fighter beat the then older, slower, weaker fighter in Zaragoza.... Shet! happens and we the Erik fans have to have faith in our boy!! that his greatness will prevail.
I for one can tell you, I've been here before with JCC, Duran, Gonzalez who once they lost people didn't give them a chance to ever come back and win again but they prove them all wrong...

Dude, it's only $500. It's not $50,000. Quit acting like you're some kind of player. Seriously. You've had that sig picture up for like 6 months now.

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Pacquiao Morales III
No clue. Morales had Pac badly hurt in the second fight but seemed to shoot his load trying to get rid of him and from that point on his legs and everything were gone.
Morales has a bunch of things he can do. Morales could very easily outbox Pacquiao
Pacquiao leaves himself off balance after he throws a shot all Morales has to do is slightly step bac, fire three punches on the off balance Pacquiao and get out. Same way Barerra beat Hamed.
But Morales isn't going to do that so it's a toss up ::**

Dude I'd be as excited if I was going, nothing beats great seats at a boxing fight. I was in £300 ($580) seats for Calzaghe v Lacy, it was magic. Have yourself a great time P4P!

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Pacquiao Morales III
So they were ringside seats?
Whats it like man?!

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Pacquiao Morales III
Great analysis, Wacko, but you didn't really mention the weight issue. I think the combination of Morales struggling to make weight along with the cumulative effect of all his wars (which you accurately pointed out) will be his downfall. I don't think his legs will have the stamina to outbox Pacman for 12 rounds. Eventually, Morales won't be able to move well enough on his toes, he'll go more flat footed and start trading with Manny. Then, I suspect, he'll get be in big trouble. It's too bad, and I'd like to see him finish the fight on his feet, even if he loses.
