Wlad and Brock speak...BRIGGS THERE!!!
Well I like that Shannon showed up at the press conference, I also liked the fact he thought he got screwed out of fighting Wlad (when it was his F****** choice to not fight him anyways!).
I would LOOOOOVE to see this fight come to fruition, Briggs is tough, he's poweful, he's VERY DANGEROUS....he's probably the toughest fight out there for Wladimir and I think Wlad would just beat him from pillar to post after waiting out his power!
-
Re: Wlad and Brock speak...BRIGGS THERE!!!
I guess Briggs is thinking "I almost got Lennox, maybe Wlad will be easier to KO"
Wladimir was still VERY respectful and Jesus how can anyone not like the guy, he gives money to build schools in Africa, he's a doctor, he doesn't brag about anything...he's the coolest dude ever
Anyways, Wladimir has a better jab than Lennox, he's got a quicker right cross and a better left hook....I think Briggs' defense isn't all that great, it's similar to what McCline uses and Wlad busted through that.
Also Wladimir just had a very good close fight and came out on top...the last time Shannon had a good close fight was either vs Sedrick Fields or Frans Botha....we all know he got shut out vs Jameel!!!
-
Re: Wlad and Brock speak...BRIGGS THERE!!!
Personally...I think Briggs is a douche bag. He acts like a fool. Too much talk.
I think that his size would give Wlad issues...but he'd compensate for it sooner or later. I'd give Briggs a shot in the start...but if Wlad got past the 5th or 6th round it'd be all down hill for Briggs after that.
-
Re: Wlad and Brock speak...BRIGGS THERE!!!
I agree Wacko Briggs is a DOUCHE BAG!!!
I don't think Briggs would start out fast like he does vs bums...he didn't start out too fast for Sergei.
Just like Jameel McCline I think big guys with power scare him and let's face facts, he's not the guy who fought Lewis anymore! He hasn't been the same since then and I think Wlad would not only break Shannon's heart, he'd rip it out and eat it while it was still beating
-
Re: Wlad and Brock speak...BRIGGS THERE!!!
I can't blame Briggs for marketing himself successfully. It wasn't as if he was doing it ala James Toney verbiage.
Strangely, the most annoying thing that I find about Briggs is his damn dreadlocks.
-
Re: Wlad and Brock speak...BRIGGS THERE!!!
I'm not a fan of Briggs but at least he isn't scared to enter the same room as another current Heavyweight Champion. I think it was Stewart that prevented the Briggs v Klit fight because he was scared of a Briggs KO and needed more time to work with Wlad. It is great news to hear both Klit and Briggs pushing for Unification ;D its about time.
-
Re: Wlad and Brock speak...BRIGGS THERE!!!
And Shelly Finkle that supposedly kept it from happening. 100 percent done? ;D

Yeah, Shelly is always 'on the money'...no doubt about it. ;)

Re: Wlad and Brock speak...BRIGGS THERE!!!
...they offered Briggs 1 million dollars, he took A LOT LESS to fight Sergei.
Don King threw a wrench in the plan by offering Lyakhovich to him, DK wanted Valuev to have Madison Square Garden....too bad it didn't happen
It's Briggs' own damn fault that he didn't take the fight.....it was offered to him.
Manny is not scared of Briggs, neither is Wlad, he'll bust Shannon up big time!
-
Re: Wlad and Brock speak...BRIGGS THERE!!!
Well, I think that it's safe to say that Manny is a bit apprehensive about Briggs. After all, this is boxing. One punch
can send the fat lady home before she even makes it to the chorus.
-
Re: Wlad and Brock speak...BRIGGS THERE!!!
Nah not really....sure he goes "kamikazi" but what about when the guy he's fighting can punch back just as hard???
-

Shelly Finkle wasn't making the fight happen when he said it was 100 percent done. Don't blame Briggs for getting tired of waiting.

Re: Wlad and Brock speak...BRIGGS THERE!!!
What do you mean? Wlad had the Garden set for Nov. 11th for freakin ever!!!! What Briggs can't actually get in shape for a fight????
-
Re: Wlad and Brock speak...BRIGGS THERE!!!
I doubt Briggs REALLY wants to get in the ring with Wlad. I have a feeling he will hold onto his WBO belt for as long as he can. He will continue to act like Mr.T just to sound like a big man, but when it comes down to it he just wants money and he will do whatever it takes to make it. (and honestly I dont blame the guy).
-
Re: Wlad and Brock speak...BRIGGS THERE!!!
WK is the biggest money fight out there for Briggs or any other heavyweight for that matter.
Well, maybe Holyfeild could draw more money...
-
Re: Wlad and Brock speak...BRIGGS THERE!!!
Briggs is garbage. He has no chance against Wlad. No chance. I don't care how weak Wlad's chin is. Briggs won't, can't beat him.

What do you mean, Lyle? Here is an excerpt from an interview with Steward:
On Briggs
Having recently been misquoted by saying Calvin Brock is an easier fight than Shannon Briggs, Steward shoots back with, "I never said that. I said it's much easier to prepare for a standard, good fighter than fight a guy like Shannon Briggs, who's a big kamikaze-type guy.
"As for Briggs, he knows he's not going to be in shape. He comes out and throws everything he's got for two or three rounds and then he says, 'If I don't knock you out, the hell with it.' And for any fighter, Whether it was (Muhammad) Ali, Joe Frazier or (George) Foreman, anyone, that's a dangerous type guy to fight for the first two or three rounds, including Lennox Lewis, as we found out. And that's when I said he was the most dangerous guy, because of his size and his style for the first two or three rounds.
That sounds a bit apprehensive to me.
-
Re: Wlad and Brock speak...BRIGGS THERE!!!
Judging from Briggs last performance IMO, Wladdy would destroy Briggs inside of 5.
Briggs fought with his hands beside him all night, and showed nothing... :)

I'm well aware of what Manny said...he was just saying that they didn't take the easy way out by fighting Brock.
So Briggs has power.....oh I guess Wlad won't win because he can't take a punch
Well Briggs got the fuck beat out of him by Jameel McCline and I highly doubt he'll be EAGER to take Wlad's punches
Keep digging, I'm sure you'll find the TRUE reason Briggs didn't fight Wladimir and the reason is Don King!
King wanted his Apeman fighter to have the Garden and Finkle protected it for Wlad's fight and DK ended up not only losing out on the Garden but getting his guy KO'd!!!

Not really. I actually taught he did. As for the the rematch? Well let's just leave that alone.

At this point, it really wouldn't make much sense for Briggs to fight Klitschko. Why not milk the title for all it's worth and get some really stuuuuupid easy fights and ride some cash. I really can't say that, though.
Briggs showed up at the press conference and called Wladimir out. He tried to steal his thunder and catch a piece of the pie along the way. I conclude that he was moderately successful. If he wasn't, it would be a moot point and nobody would be talking about it. He certainly doesn't seem to riding a bicycle away from the Klitschko camp.
Briggs may nave not wanted the fight when it was offered, but I think his mouth is watering at the thought of it now. Win or lose, and in all probability he will lose, it's the biggest money maker of his life...fukin no brainer.
-
Re: Wlad and Brock speak...BRIGGS THERE!!!
Don't get me wrong dude, Briggs is powerful but he's ALL TALK when it comes to this level of competition....I think even Lennox Lewis would give Wlad pointers on how to beat Briggs.
Shannon acts like he deserves respect but he hasn't earned it especially with such a crap fight vs Lyakhovich which I don't really think he won....I think the fight was over and Sergei then went through the ropes.
Wlad fought a LEGIT guy, Calvin is no slouch...sure he had a sparse resume but he was undefeated, he was a decent amateur and gave Wlad some trouble....and then Wlad KO'd him....good fighters work through that type of stuff whereas if anyone gives Shannon trouble he either quits and coasts the rest of the fight or he gets KO'd...Wlad NEVER gives up, he might get hurt, cut, or knocked down but you know he's going to get back up
-
Re: Wlad and Brock speak...BRIGGS THERE!!!
Briggs: "I respect you too, brother. I'm off to my party and everyone's invited."
Hahaha
What did Kermit the Frog challenge Wladimir!

Klitschko, Brock speak!
November 12, 2006
By Jason "J-Gon" Gonzalez / Photos: Ed Mulholland
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IBF heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko and his vanquished challenger Calvin Brock spoke to the press following Wladimir's seventh round knockout win on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
When Wladimir Klitschko arrived, he stated, "I know Calvin Brock was here before me. Unfortunately I can't shake his hand as well as to wish him good luck in his career. He was a good, strong fighter, he has good defense, and he didn't allow me to get my distance.
"I want to thank Madison Square Garden and then the people of New York. The real winners tonight were the kids in Nanibia." (A portion of the proceeds from of each of the 14,260 tickets sold will go to the UNESCO Education for 'Children in Need' project, specifically for a special school project in Namibia, Africa. Wladimir guaranteed at least $250,000.)
This right here is just admirable, you gotta respect a guy who takes the time and dedicates part of his life helping the life of others who are less fortunate....
Especially kids man, I gotta admit anyone who puts in on a good cause theres really nothing much you can do but applaud the man and respect him.
Gotta mention again Barret too for wearing the 'pink' gloves last month for cancer awareness. :)
Right on Wladdy.... After all those kids are tomorrows future, the future leaders of the world. In those kids might be the next Nelson Mandela, who knows? ? ? ?

Did you see the fight?
yes :)
It was boring.
Every shot that Briggs hit Sergei with hurth im though. Sergei had a pretty bruised up face after the fight :)
Of course if Briggs fought like that against Wlad it would be an early night for him.
He better look impressivei n his first defense or he is no future in the Heavyweight division.
So he should fight Ray Austin or Sultan Ibragimov and knock them out in devastating fashion.
Then he has legitimacy. Until then he's always a question mark.
People who say Shannon looked shit against Lyakovich and say the entire fight sucked(until the last minute) I agree.
But if Calvin Brock is even competitive with someone like Wladimer all I see is people saying "See that, Wladimer had an off night and still knocked that guy out!"
I don't hear that at all for Briggs.
Well anyway.. it doesn't surprise me.
But here's something I'm mad at(yes..me mad..its a shocker isn't it)
For the Hopkins vs. Eastman fight(which I rewatched today)
Lampley and all of them were giving kudos to Bernard for his safety first style and still being able to pick off the opponent. Larry Merchant and Jim Lampley even said "Bernard is so great that you eliminate the crowd element and still dominate your opponent and be marketable if you're that good. He's that good!"
Mayweather does it against Baldomir and they say "True champions stay and trade and knockout their opponents."
STFU!! ::**

Re: Wlad and Brock speak...BRIGGS THERE!!!
WHO the hell does briggs thinks he is?
Who the hell did briggs beat to get a shot at anyone?
to be honest with you, if the reff did his job in the briggs fight, it woulda went to the score cards anyways.
Also, I wanna bring up the point that the reff in the klitschko fight was rediculous, not 1 f***in warning or anything about the hitting behind the head....
-
Re: Wlad and Brock speak...BRIGGS THERE!!!
Shannon Briggs had a good win streak, he may not have....he DID NOT fight the best competition but hell, he's still dangerous and the only reason Wlad and Finkle went after him was to sell out the Garden....oh well.
The whole deal with Calvin Brock STARR, is that he was undefeated and therefore NO ONE KNOWS HOW GOOD HE IS....he had not stepped up like that before and he did well, he gave Wlad some trouble and it is good that even though he had a little trouble he stuck to his plan and did not panic.
Everyone knows Briggs' shortcomings: stamina, chin, heart
pretty much everyone knows Lyakhovich's shortcomings as well...he hasn't lost but twice but he has been down, he has been hurt, and he doesn't have the best power in the world.
-
Re: Wlad and Brock speak...BRIGGS THERE!!!
starr i watched the hopkins vs eastman fight again a few weeks back, and i know what you mean, the crowd are even booing in that fight. people are hipocrates but i am a firm beleiver that the champ should fight like a champion and show some heart and balls.

I'm in FULL agreement with ya my southern brother! But the fact remains that even if Shannon is "all talk", he wants to make this fight happen eventually as I think Wladimir has now solidified his mark as 'The Man' in the division. Shannon could also take a fight with Holyfield for a huge payday and I wouldn't be a bit surprised if one of my all-time favorites actually beat Briggs. That would be some fuked up shite!! ;D
-
Re: Wlad and Brock speak...BRIGGS THERE!!!
If the fight happens and Wlad KO's Briggs, NO ONE can stop him and I think he unifies easily!
Briggs is a tough fighter to beat if only for the first 3-4 rounds
-
Re: Wlad and Brock speak...BRIGGS THERE!!!
wlad can own any heavyweight in the division today
