Jermain Taylor speaks; Ready to Retire
Unbeaten World Boxing Council middleweight champion Jermain Taylor doesn't plan on sticking around too long in his weight class or the sport. In fact Taylor is already thinking about retirement as he feels he is already richer beyond his dreams. Taylor tells Kevin Iole of the Las Vegas Review-Journal that he plans to debut in the 168-pound class in 2007 before planning his retire from the sport by August of 2008. Taylor will turn 30 on Aug. 11, 2008.
Taylor who is set to make his latest defense of his crown on December 9 against Uganda's rugged Kassim Ouma, told the
newspaper that making weight at the 160-pound limit has become much too tough.
In regards to making weight, Taylor quoted in The Las Vegas Review-Journal confided: "It's all but impossible for me to do it now. As I age and fill out, it's not going to happen."
http://www.doghouseboxing.com/Chee/Chee_1113a06.htm
In regards to wanting to retire soon, Taylor told the publication: "Boxing is a job, that's all. What's the point of sticking around?" Taylor added: "To get extra, extra rich? I'm already rich, richer than I ever thought, so I don't need to be any richer. I'm going to get out and never look back."

Re: Jermain Taylor speaks; Ready to Retire
I don't mind seeing young fighters retire early if they have fought the best before they go and JT is doing just that. If he gives us a Wright, Calzaghe and Kessler fights then have a happy retirement at 30 mate ;D
-
Re: Jermain Taylor speaks; Ready to Retire
This could suck because the people boxing needs most are leaving the sport... mayweather if he retires, OLDH in retiring, and Jermain Taylor who will fight anyone... This sucks if this all comes to pass.

Re: Jermain Taylor speaks; Ready to Retire
I won't miss Floyd's pompas little azz but I will miss Oscar. Damn I loved watching him and Mosley going at it toe to toe when was the last time we saw Floyd do that.

He fought on the inside against Gatti, He pressed the fight with Judah, watch the Ndou fight, Emmanuel Burton fight, Jesus Chavez fight, and the Victorian Sosa fight was exciting too... Oscar and MOsley one wasn't toe to toe there was alot of movement on both sides, and the punch output wasn't particularly high...

Re: Jermain Taylor speaks; Ready to Retire
I liked Floyd at the lower weights . Floyd had an array of options available when he was lighter , thus he was more exciting in my opinion . Mayweather is a chicken shit at this higher weight. and rightfully so. the guys he is fighting are too big and strong.. .. O0

Exactly, Floyd bit off more then he can chew.. moved up to a weight class where he can't compete physically, thus has no option but to run his ass off. Is it smart ? no doubt , but its still chicken shit ! For instance its like the little punk troublemaker in school comes up behind the big strong athlete hit him upside the head. then turns and runs away ... Now was it smart for the little guy to turn and run?, sure it was , but its chicken shit all the same. ! ;)

Does it really matter if Floyd's opponent cant do shit about what Floyd does and still gets beat?

Mayweather is only looking good vs. Baldo because Carlos fought the wrong fight.. Baldo fought Mayweathers fight . Carlos follow Floyd around the ring and got out boxed and looked stupid . What you do is draw a line in the sand , shame him into a fight. When he step back You step back. Whatever is takes.. But don’t just follow him around for 12 rounds in a 26 foot ring.

It doesn't matter what fight Baldomir fought. He wasn't going to beat Mayweather anyway. The difference in skill level was ridiculous.

Good ridlance Jermain, didn't even notice you were still around.... :-\
I thought you had already retired.... :(

Please don't say silly shit like that...I know you know better.
Floyd has made every single person that he has faced look as overly outmatched as he has Baldo.
Any game plan to date has gone out the window. It's called technical brilliance.
I am starting to feel for a lot of these fighters...no matter what they do...it aint good enough for us...the fans.
Hell...I'm guilty of it with Taylor...but honestly...I look at it a bit differently...because I think that the win over Hopkins I & the Wright draw had a bow on it.
It's different concerning Floyd...he just outsmarts & outboxes (hit & not get hit) & everyone gives him flack...it's total bullshit.

Exactly.
Though very skilled and athletic at this moment it's looking very similar to PBF's career.

As quickly as I agree with you, just as quickly I disagree with you. It's impossible to compare Floyd's career to Taylor's Floyd's done much more. Why bring him into this?

your joking right?
For starters I'm referring to 140+
Gatti was a heavy bag and Judah fight was a boring chess match.
this is what I'm talking about

Re: Jermain Taylor speaks; Ready to Retire
Those guys were GLADIATORS....Floyd just wants to fight smart...which is why I think a guy like Mayorga (not specifically him but a guy LIKE him) would be good....PBF needs someone to push his buttons and make him "stand and deliver"
too bad Roberto Duran fought so long ago

How so? Mayweather deserved to win EVERY fight.. I was watching the Mayweather-Castillo I again, and they must counted every punch Castillo did while they were holding eachother to have him ahead in power shots... Mayweather won that fight because he had superior ring generalship, defense, and cleaner punches, but I don't think Jermain is nearly as fast or skilled as MAyweather p4p who IMO if he was bigger would lay a hurt on anyone at any weight class.

Amazing that people grasp for straws when tryin to dismiss Floyd.
Don't kill your credibility by stooping to those levels Mickey.
Floyd impressively dismantled Corrales, Chavez, Hernandez, & Castillo...all of which I have heard you credit before for great acts or impressive fights.

Not being silly my Wacko friend ! well maybe a tad , Seriously everyone falls into the Mayweather trap and fights his fight .. Fallow Fallow Fallow if you follow him you are going to get your ass beat. best chance to win is have Floyd come to you. ;) now granted he still might tattoo your country ass via Gatti , but its your best chance to land something. ;)

Like I said it's starting to look, not it IS. 2 different things, I brought him up cause both very skilled & athletic fighters and both aren't really living up to whats expected of them.... Thats why I said it's looking similar.....

You are good at chemistry Lyle ! I can tell, because your exactly spot on.. Mayroga is the correct formula to tap dance on that Mayweather ass. , because Mayorgya is awkward as all fuck,, hell Ricardo is so awkward , I don't think he knows what he is doing half the time. and he is powerful.. Ricardo could lunge out there and hurt ole pretty boy. excellent call.. CC now or in 24 ;) O0

Re: Jermain Taylor speaks; Ready to Retire
I think Taylor is more exciting then Floyd in my opinion. even Ray Leonard would fight.. I remember some great battles with ole Ray. he would box for some rounds then he would fight, but I be damned if Ray didn’t run the board on a mutherfucker when he had them in trouble. Floyd is too heavy at 147 to impress.. he needs to get back to 135-140 where he can handle himself better and be more exciting 135 was Floyd's best weight.

Yeah so then I guess that means you're with everyone else in saying that neither Margarito or Hatton would have a chance against Mayweather because all they would do is follow him around ;)

one name Castillo, he did it in the rematch but in the first fight Floyd got his ass beat, didn't move his arm away from his body cause it was too tender from all the bombs Castillo had thrown at it

Their hearts are in the game when they poor. when that money trickles in and invested wisely, that hunger factor is diminished substantially . at no time in boxing history have fighters been paid this much. It's a great thing. Boxing really taxes the body, its good that fighters can retire with the brain intact. I am all for it ! If Golfers are making millions of dollars, fighters damn sure should ! ;)

JT and PBF are polar opposites!!
Floyd is safety first he hasn't taken a risky (albeit every fight is risky this i'am aware) fight in years. Jermain has stepped in the ring with possibly the top 2 pound for pound guys 3 times in a row!!

oscars certainly one of the best, but he doesnt want any part of floyd
moselys one of the best............ and he doesnt want any part of floyd
same for hatton
so then floyd goes on to fight baldomir who was the linear welterweight champion of the world as his 4th choice and the haters keep on hating

Floyd whould avoid fighting these taller welterweight if at all possible... can't blame him for that as Floyds best fighting weight is 135 , hell that where he belongs . Margarito and Williams are 6"0 -6'2 147lb fighters who should be fighting at 160 - 168 if they had the balls ! but they would rather starve and beat on the little ones. I say the hell with that ! The truth is Mayweather wants no part of these Margarito Cintron Williams type fighters , all kinda of risk with the tall rangy guys. and the main reason is reverse don't work as well against a tall rangy fighter ! Mayweather would be fuked . bad match stylistically for Mayweather.

Re: Jermain Taylor speaks; Ready to Retire
I don't blame any of these fighters these days for leaving the sport early. These guys have to devote their entire life to boxing. I'm sure they really love the sport, I'm sure they don't like not being able to eat whenever they want, or not having sex and drinking beer during the weeks they are in training camp. Why stay around when no one respects you no matter what you do unless you're De La Hoya? Floyd is 37-0, recognized welterweight champion, champion in four different weight classes, dominated in all fights except one and just because he might not be the most engaging person or he's got a lot of confidence in himself people act like he's done nothing in boxing. JT, is the undefeated undisputed middleweight champion of the world, and he's faced two of the best P4P fighters in the past decade back-to-back-to-back, and most people are acting like he is a paper champ. Maybe, I can see why some people criticize Floyd, but there should be NO criticism against JT. The guy is a class act inside and outside of the ring, fights everyone, and is undefeated. Yet people still hate. Fuck it, retire.

If your refering to me then we need to get one thing straight my friend!! I don't hate Floyd I admire his skills and respect his position as number 1 pound for pound after Baldomir. I simply don't sit alongside of you on his bandwagon ;D
You and Floyd can say that he wants to fight the best and they don't want to fight him until you are both blue in the face and I won't believe it mate.
You really believe Hatton thinks he is a bigger underdog now against Floyd than he was against Kostya after he destroyed Judah and Sharmba? or Floyd is a bigger challenge for Mosley than jumping from 135 up to 147 to meet Oscar when his only loss was cotroversial decision to Tito? or he is a bigger challenge for Oscar than meeting the great Bernard Hopkins? these guys are scared of a bloke that breaks his hands at Lightweight? yeh right ::**
It shouldn't be that hard for the GREAT Floyd Mayweather to find a challenge! you and I both know that challenge exists in more than one form ;)
