Manny Steward tipped Hatton to beat Mayweather!
Found these quotes on another board, not sure when they from..
Manny Steward -
"No, Mayweather's definitely not the perfect fighter. He's very fortunate in the fighters he's beaten. The timing was very good on those particular nights. I know the behind the scenes stories. But if someone crowds him and puts pressure on him - and gets close to him before they punch - not punching from a distance - pressure - and then punching right when they get on top of him - he will have problems."
"Ricky Hatton was able to beat Kostya Tszyu because Kostya Tszyu (preferred to fight) at a distance where he could control and analyze things - he was great with boxers. When I talked with Ricky Hatton - because I had helped Vince Phillips to beat (Tszyu) - even though I didn't work the corner, he trained at the Kronk Gym (in 2000). And I said (to Hatton), Don't be intelligent, just be an animal. And keep putting pressure and don't punch till you're very close. And that's what happened in both fights where Kostya Tszyu lost. The same patterns could work against Floyd Mayweather."
"Ricky has all the tools to beat Floyd, he's the one guy who can really do it, for sure. He closes the distance faster than any fighter in the sport, and his defense is based on subtle head movements-see Tszyu fight. He has the dexterity to get his shots off on the way in and from almost no room or time, he can switch hands as fast as Floyd, he can even switch the angle off his punch in mid-motion. I know, because we used his gym when Tommy (Hearns) was fighting over there (in Manchester). And this guy, this guy never tires, it's like he's got other motors to call on. He's an incredible specimen, Ricky."

Re: Manny Steward tipped Hatton to beat Mayweather!
I've been saying all this for years, no one closes the gap like ricky, his bob and weave is strange timing, and his secret is the way he shifts his weight leverages. He's a genuine conterpuncher.

Apparently theres more to him that that ::**
Na i do agree that Ricky on top form has the Style to give Floyd hell... Always have.
Its just a shame that the likelyhood of it happening is slimmer than ever now.
Still, we have our imagination.... And Fight Night Round 3 ;D

Sorry.... Errrr
So when the hell did Hearns fight in Manchester?

Re: Manny Steward tipped Hatton to beat Mayweather!
Wise words from Manny, probs one of, if not the most respected trainers in the game today. He knows what he's talking about 8)
I remember watching the Hearns fight, it was about 3-4 years ago i think, at Lightheavy. It was more like a sparring session really, although great to see a HOF come over and show us his somewhat now diminshed skills.
Why is Floyd not on FN, any reasons for this? Did they not offer him enough money to feature on this, or possibly if he was on FN the is a chance his character may lose a fight ;D

As Borat would say "YOU ARE A FAT!!!"
Although I'm sure thats not true because he's 2 weeks into his full camp, so he's definatly nothing like as chubby as say 2 months ago.

Re: Manny Steward tipped Hatton to beat Mayweather!
I was a Hatton fan anyway but that was a good vid to showcase Hatton, some ignorant haters seem to think Hatton is just a brawler/slugger and a Hatton/Maywaether fight would be another Mayweather/Baldomir...I dont think so.
-
Re: Manny Steward tipped Hatton to beat Mayweather!
Good for Manny Steward.
You know...on top of Manny tipping Hatton to beat Mayweather...he tipped Hearns to beat Hagler too...look where that got him.
If that's too deep a comparison...then he also tipped Wlad to beat Brewster...look where that got him.
Keep on tipping Manny. ;D

I don't think Mayweather / Hatton would be a shut out like Mayweather / Baldomir, but Mayweather would school Hatton, it would look just like
Mayweather / Castillo 2.

Re: Manny Steward tipped Hatton to beat Mayweather!
hey wakko if you made predictions on every major match up in the last twenty years are you gonna get it spot on every time? nah didn't think so bud. of course your gonna get it wrong sometimes cos its boxing and anything happen.
-
Re: Manny Steward tipped Hatton to beat Mayweather!
Manny Dosent walk on Water by any means.......Marry's HBO analysis leaves little to be desired cause he is so Biased I would prefer Manny to do less talking and do what he does best train fighters!!!! He is one of those people that are better seen than heard...Every major fight we are reminded that Hearns can turn water into wine, Lewis is the best thing since Ali, Wlad is the Terminator....
See the reoccuring theme here....Ricky would press Floyd and make him work but I wouldnt hang the golden pot of Prediction from Manny's words and run with it......

Re: Manny Steward tipped Hatton to beat Mayweather!
Styles make fights, and a pressure fighter at their peak is nearly unstopable

Re: Manny Steward tipped Hatton to beat Mayweather!
You guys are not all there Ricky Hatton could not stand a chance against PBF if he had a baseball bat. Hatton should have lost his last fight against Luis Collazo. He doesn't even what to fight Floyd if he did he would have never ask for that kind of money 9+ million when Floyd's camp approached him.. He has never made anything close to that his entire career. Floyd just started getting that kind of money for his fights. Ricky Hatton has fought the majority of his fights in England where there is NO COMPETITION here in the USA we have the BEST ATHELETES in the world.... When Hatton fought 5/13/2006 in Boston he fought a NO BODY and still had trouble... He doesn't have what it takes to fight a welterweight that's why he moved back down in weight.... Ricky Hatton wouldn't stand a chance against Baldomir. He comes straight forward and takes punishment to TRY to give it...... Ricky Hatton needs to stay in England and fight the BUMMS he has been fighting for little boy pay days.... He knows better than to get in the ring with PBF..... He wouldn't stand a chance he knows it thats why he move back down in weight...... HE is a wrestler who has fought bums..... He is swollen after every fight he participates in here in the USA we know he's a joke thats why he's not even on PPV...lol...lol...lol no one wants to see that wrestler..........

Has Mayweather ever beaten anybody in Kostya Tszyu's league??????? Didn't think so.

Re: Manny Steward tipped Hatton to beat Mayweather!
Did anyone else notice that Manny said this pre collazo, iam sure Manny thinks differently now, especially when Hatton stunk up the joint in his american debut. Please u silly brits i cant stand PBF (he's so fuking arrogant it eats at my insides) but there is no way the club fighter in Hatton beats any version of that little twat Floyd.
-
Re: Manny Steward tipped Hatton to beat Mayweather!
Some insightfull points raised mezy, it's good to see another Hatton fan join the forum ;D
One has it from a reliable sorce that Oscar offered Hatton the fight on May 5th with a very lucrative offer. Although planned as a shortfall incase the Mayweather fight didn't happen, it was a firm offer all the same.
Interesting to see Floyd sign the contract with Oscar so soon, and also agree to use the 'Reyes' gloves for the fight. The gloves Oscar would prefer to use.
:)
-
Re: Manny Steward tipped Hatton to beat Mayweather!
Hatton has the proverbial "puncher's chance" at 140....I think his workrate would have to jump up or he'd have to be VERY rough with Floyd at 147
-
Re: Manny Steward tipped Hatton to beat Mayweather!
Floyd beats Ricky 9 times out of 10, but only if the 10th fight was fought on the 4th of June 2005 at 2am in the morning!! Under those circumstances Ricky Hatton was unbeatable.
-
Re: Manny Steward tipped Hatton to beat Mayweather!
I think its obvious if Baldomir couldn't bully or pressure Floyd Hatton can't.

...Hatton throws faster punches but that's about it
I don't see much wrestling going on if they were to have a fight....PBF knows better than that but Hatton is one of those guys IMO Floyd would either have to KO or humiliate in order for it to be considered a successful fight.
VS Baldomir, his defense was good, he punched every now and then, enough to win the rounds....I just expect more...I don't know maybe a combination here and there....I understand you don't want to stand and trade with him but throwing a combination and feinting and so on it's WORK.....running is running, rolling with punches is difficult but it's not as impressive as bobbing and weaving (though he does that very well)....that fight just missed a little something extra....Floyd didn't need to get tagged or anything but come on watching the last half was like water torture

Re: Manny Steward tipped Hatton to beat Mayweather!
Hatton can't beat Mayweather, and Steward has it in for PBF.
-
Re: Manny Steward tipped Hatton to beat Mayweather!
I think Hatton and Mayweather are definately the two best fighters in the business, both have always been very special talents, and the fight will be extremely close.
I'm putting my money on Hatton.

Not real money, Im sure.

Re: Manny Steward tipped Hatton to beat Mayweather!
Not offense Watt, but you only think Hatton is one of the two best because you have brit blinds that make you only glorify them... Pacquiao is a far better pressure fighter than Hatton, and Winky Wright is still a far better fighter than Hatton. P4P I think Jermain Taylor would be better, Calzaghe, Barrera are better than him. Forgot Hopkins, but him as well. Collazo was a good fighter, but if Hatton hadn't gotten lucky with an early knockdown I think he loses are at most has a draw against Collazo who, though, is an fighter has nowhere near the speed, skill, and probably even power Mayweather has... I think Mayweather might be able to hurt Hatton, and he has far too much speed for Hatton to close the gap.

Re: Manny Steward tipped Hatton to beat Mayweather!
Steward has it in for anyone he is not training. He is old and stuck in his ways we know how old folks are "Afraid of ATMs and next generation things" PBF has personally voice that he is better than Ray Robinson, Ray Leonard etc..... He also doesn’t like the fact that PBF doesn't take chances like going for knockouts in late rounds etc..... If he were Floyd’s trainer he would be on PBF jock saying "He's the greatest". He is just a classic example of an American player hater...... The sad thing he trains Jermain Taylor and he is less aggressive than Floyd.... Manny Steward needs to retire..... Who cares what he says His two best fighters Taylor and Klitschko don't even fight on PPV and they have belts..... I mean come on the Mike Tyson world tour is on PPV

wright is much different fighter wright is defensive fighter hatton is offensive fighter its not luck he knocked him down done enough to get a decision no luck involved and remember hattons first time at that weight so give him a break let him grow into the weight if he returns to that weight

Because he seems to think that just because Mayweather doesn't fight the same way great boxers have of the past means that Floyd isn't great himself. The biggest thing Steward can't get over is that Mayweather doesn't throw huge combinations and just pot shots. IMO Roy was most successfull at hit and don't get hit when he would pot shot instead of trying to take his opponent out. Steward just by how he trains his fighters has never shown a great appreciation for defensive fighters, and doesn't seem to acknowledge it. Also whenever a fighter gets compared to Leonard, Hearns, Hagler, Duran. He immediately seems to downplay the fighter I remember when Roy was fighting Richard Hall I believe that Steward was asked if Roy would beat the great four, and He started to be more negative towards Jones. I think he likes Floyd even less because at least Roy had power, but I don't feel Floyd needs power because he so much a smarter fighter. I think Steward's argument is solely on the fact Mayweather doesn't throw combinations as I said above, but Floyd does throw combinations like against Corley or Burton, but in those fights he got hit more so being a smart fighter he probably decided its not worth shorting his career to look impressive when he can when every round of every fight, by fighting smart. Unfortunately past generations who are used to two fighters pounding it out can't appreciate that.
