David Haye v Giancobbe Fragomeni European Title RBR - 10pm SS1
"The Path to glory starts with revenge" is the title that has been handed to this fight, between the two fighters who last met in the trials for the 2000 Olympics, which ended up in Haye losing his chance at Olympic glory. In the promotional poster for tonight's fight, Fragomeni has been mockingly dubbed "The KO Victim", and just another step towards world glory for David Haye. Haye has bemoaned the referee's shocking decisions, in his opinion, in the Olympic trials 7 years ago, and has promised to knock out his Italian opponent, who has an unblemished 21-0 record, and also claiming the WBC's International Cruiserweight Title during those bouts. The fight also doubles as a WBC Title Eliminator, with the winner going one step closer to challenging WBC, WBA and IBF titlist O'Neil Bell.
David Haye: (17-1 , 16 KOs) - With the solitary blemish on his professional record coming in an early challenge for the IBO Cruiserweight strap in September 2004, Haye has compiled an impressive record of knockouts, with 11 of those coming within 6 minutes in the ring. The self-proclaimed "Hayemaker's" record of KO's took a decidedly disappointing nosedive with a snoozer against Ismail Abdoul, throwing very few punches and just doing enough to win. If this attitude continues, I may well not make it through to the end of the 6th round, but hopefully he will have turned a corner in knowing he can go 12 rounds, and move on from there. If Haye goes out and throws the bombs we know that he can, then there is no doubt that he will trouble Fragomeni's as yet untested chin, but the Italian is the master of the points win, so trying to go the distance could be a problem for him.
Giancobbe Fragomeni (21-0, 9 KOs) - For the 37-year old Italian, who was already 30 years old when he beat the 19-year old David Haye in the Olympic trials, this fight could well be the one that defines his career. Having fought as an amateur for many years, he did not become a professional until he was 31 years old, and has since built up his 21 fight undefeated streak, which also includes and 8 rounder against Haye victim Ismail Abdoul. Yet despite this, the only creditable victory was over hot prospect Daniel Bispo to claim the WBC International title, but going in against David Haye will prove whether his chin is all that it can be, and at 37, the prospect of a shot at world titlist O'Neil Bell as the WBC mandatory challenger is something that he will only have one shot at, and it is up to him to grasp it with both hands.

Fwock me...there is a time frame that is simply known as "mountain time"? I am just somewhat amused, as whenever I'm late for an appointment, I'm always on "country time". Thanks for the heads up mate, I don't think that I personally have ever been in the states beyond the Eastern time zone except when flying through to Oceania.

Come on Wossy, you really think that Fragomeni has a chance. He's 37 years old, and granted, he has the stature of a rugby prop, I can't see beyond a victory for the much developed Haye.
Haye predicts: "I'm not going to have to chase him, he's going to come at me and it is going to be an explosion in th middle of the ring."
Let's hope so.

Re: David Haye v Giancobbe Fragomeni European Title RBR - 10pm SS1
Well, the beers have been flowing, as I watched Wales destroy Canada in the rugby, but I've been looking forwards to this one, as we get to see if Haye is all that his talk, and previous exploits would suggest.
Ringwalks:
Fragomeni looks nervous, coming in to some music I never heard before, but attired in an AC Milan shirt adorned with the number 8 of Gennaro Gattuso beneath his robe.
Haye's ringwalk is voiced over by famed british rap DJ Tim Westwood, and based on a James Brown track. He looks confident and relaxed, chatting with folks on his way through the coridors, into the main arena. Rapturous applause from the crowd, and Haye is loving it.
Bring it on!

Ummmmm, I don't get it. Anyways....
Round 1: Haye keeps his eyes on Fragomeni as they prepare to get it on. The Italian looks stocky and short out of his shirt. Haye working the jab. Fragomeni coming forward, caught by a good right, and body shots from Haye. Good left from Fragomeni. Two left hooks connect from the Italian. Haye getting caught a bit. Haye scoring with a lot of shots from distance. Good left right combo. Good uppercut from Haye, followed up by a hook. Fragomeni looking to get on the inside, but Haye backing off.
Tied round IMO. Fragomeni looks a decent opponent. 10-10

Re: David Haye v Giancobbe Fragomeni European Title RBR - 10pm SS1
Round 2:
Haye jabbing well. Fragomeni lunging forward a bit more. Swinging left catches Haye on the side of the head. Haye counters with a right. Good right uppercut followed by left hook combo. Fragomeni not even rocked by it. Quick left by Haye. Uppercut again from Haye. Fragomeni swinging and missing or catching gloves a fair bit.
Haye sneaks it for me, 20-19

Re: David Haye v Giancobbe Fragomeni European Title RBR - 10pm SS1
Round 3: Straight rights from Fragomeni connects well. Three jabs and a hook push Haye back, but he's giving way, rather than being rocked by the Italian. Hard hooks to the body from Haye. He's warned about leaningin with the elbow. Right hook hits Fragomeni on top of the head. Good right by Haye knocks F's head back. Good combo of hooks by Fragomeni.
Even though Hay's shots hurt more, Fragomeni does enough to tie it again IMO.
30-29

Re: David Haye v Giancobbe Fragomeni European Title RBR - 10pm SS1
Round 4:
Fragomeni coming forward again, Haye's guard good. The Italian looks resilient here, even though Haye using the power shots. Cagey fight. Straights and jabs by Haye. Two good right hooks from Haye. Fragomeni struggling to get over Haye, the taller man's guard. Fragomeni working the body, Haye swings two hard hooks right at the end.
Fragomeni outworks Haye for his first round: 39-39

Re: David Haye v Giancobbe Fragomeni European Title RBR - 10pm SS1
Haye is gonna' lose this I reckon... he has landed his most powerful shots on Fragomeni and the Italian has, literally, smiled at them. Now he is looking tired... :o
-
Re: David Haye v Giancobbe Fragomeni European Title RBR - 10pm SS1
Round 5:
Good straight left from Fragomeni rocks Haye back. Haye still looking to work behind the jab. Hooks to the body. Straight through the guard by Haye. The Italian's fans getting vocal at ringside, still cagey, could go long. Haye looking for the uppercut, but Fragomeni looking tough. Hook from Haye catches F well. Good jab by F, this guy is proving awkward for Haye.
Haye takes this one, working better this round. 49-48

Re: David Haye v Giancobbe Fragomeni European Title RBR - 10pm SS1
Round 6:
Tight cagey fight so far, lots of punches finding arms and glovers. Haye's jab more accurate than Fragomeni Big right rocks Fragomeni back, hooks knock Fragomeni back to the ropes, but he regains his composure very well. Haye encouraged, he's coming forward with flurries nad combos. Fragomeni's face looks redder, but just the same as at the start. Walking forward at Haye, and his momentum has slowed again. Haye looking to tee off with hooks, but missing, but an accurate jab keeping Frag at distance better this round. Hooks from Haye.
Best round so far to Haye.
59-57

Re: David Haye v Giancobbe Fragomeni European Title RBR - 10pm SS1
How in the name of all that is holy did Fragomeni take that straight right punch at the start of the 6th? Unbelievable chin! Haye won that round easy though, nice work.

Round 7:
Fragomeni coming forward, straights and hoooks connecting. Good right hook followed by left from Fragomeni, Haye is CUT! Bleeding from the left eye, this could be a bother. Fragomeni targets the area with another hook. Haye's panicking, Fragomeni is throwing everything at that cut. Haye jabs, but he is running now. Good left hook from Haye. Good right-left from Haye.
Very big round for Fragomeni, he needs a good cutman now!
68-67 for Haye, but very tight.

This guys head must be full of cement?? He has gone chin on him thats for sure, Haye has regrouped in the 8th.
-
Re: David Haye v Giancobbe Fragomeni European Title RBR - 10pm SS1
Round 8:
Fragomeni coming forward even more. Left hook from Fragomeni catches Haye well. Left hook and a right hook catches Haye. Bleeding again. Jabs from Haye, but the right hooks from Fragomeni are deepening that cut. Haye's punches have lost their zing. He needs to get his arse back in the fight. Good jab and right hook from Haye. Body shots as well, Haye looking to box this guy now, power is out of the window. Left hook rocks Haye, he ties up. Jab and right hook from Haye. Left hook from Haye to finish.
Very tight round again, the Sky commentators have Haye further ahead than I do, but another tied round.
78-77
