So it seems very clear that Joe is looking to go "Hollywierd" so the next best SMW fight would (I think) be a Kess vs Lacy fight. Who wins? Im going with Lacy as he has more power and Kess is a true "trade power shots" kind of guy. We all saw Lacy take a billion punches from Joe and even though he did go down I dont think it was the power of Joe that did it. Just to many shots over and over again. Kess vs Lacy would be an all out war of a HW fight. I say Lacy connects and Kess is out.
Lacy had a beautiful left jab at the 1996 Olympic Trials, I seen footage. Where the hell did it disappear to? It was reminiscent of Mike Watson's left jab against Mike McCallum, the way it looked, but obviously more effective. If he gets back to jabbing like that, everything will flow off of that and he might take some beating.
Anyway, I'd fancy Lacy in this one if he got back to fighting like he was in his WBC Continental fights - picking his shots and causing opponents to go into a shell when they land because they are that heavy, then exploiting gaps or ramming them back into the ropes with a big jab and staying on top of them, rarely missing, etc. I like it when Lacy marauds forward and opens up, too, when you've got a Lacy wailing away at you it looks difficult to hang on.
Kessler takes this IMO, not sure on a stoppage if so very late, more likely a decision. Ive been impressed with Kessler so far.
Lacy is shot.
We'll see that in his next fight for sure.

So you want name (as Manfredo) over quality. Kessler tries to make the big fights happen (Calzaghe and Lacy). He's made very good offers concidering the limited resources of his promoter. But he can't force them into the ring - or even force the "big names" to make him an offer.Quote:

OK Lacy's last fight was Joe Calzaghe he's scheduled to meet WBA's #6 rated Super Middleweight....but if he's a bum we all know why the WBA has him ranked at #6...the WBA title holder at 168 is???? Oh it's Mikkel Kessler, and Jeff Lacy is #2.

Lacy fought his share of old guys but at 29 years old and with a record of 21 (17 KO)-1-0 he has a right to have fought some old guys to build his career up.....

There comes a time when a fighter needs to grow up and fight challenges...Mikkel Kessler is only 27 HOWEVER he has fought 38 fights...it's time to step it up already. I guess Mikkel's lack of amateur experience is hindering him from making the big fights happen.....it would also be nice to fight OUTSIDE of Denmark every once in a while
Manfredo might not have all the skill Marcus Beyer ONCE HAD but he's a game fighter and he'll pose a threat to anyone, he'll at least TRY to win and not just try not to get beat up

Yes i do rate an old Beyer a level above Manfredo. As for Kessler not stepping up. I fail to see WHO he should have fought at this point, considering neither Calzaghe or Lacy has wanted to take up the challenge. Look at how his recent opposition has been rated by the ring - it doesn't leave a lot of better names when Calzaghe and Lacy wouldn't do it. As i said i agree Bute will be a serious challenge in the future. But he's only just getting to the point where he MIGHT be ready to take on a championship fight. The other names you mention would not be a step up in competition compared to Siaca (prime, champ), Mundine(prime) and Beyer(champ). Even an old Lucas holds up pretty well in comparison.Quote:

this claim of lacy ducking kessler btw, when was this? did kessler make a bold offer when he was already in talks with calzaghe? or did he make the offer after he lost to calzaghe? IM just curious as to when exactly kessler made this offer, coz they lacy v calzaghe fight was in talks for a lon time, and had slight delays with injuries - and if that ofer was made after calzaghe did what he did to him, well, should tell you all you need to know about Kessler then.

In all seriousness though, people hate on Jeff Lacy....why? He was young he was working hard, fighting often, and so he has the chance to fight for a title yeah he needed some more fights before then but he took it because #1 Calzaghe is consistant and very talented #2 168 at the time had little to offer, it has a bit more now and #3 It was going to be a HUGE payday for him.
Bust on Jeff Lacy because he stood up and wanted to fight the champion, that is absolute CRAP. Yes people believed in him and people still do but that's a fucking joke when people ride a guy for taking a difficult fight to prove himself.
It's like jumping on Jermain Taylor's case for fighting Bernard Hopkins...or better yet it's like giving Oleg Maskaev shit for stepping in the ring vs Rahman for a rematch.
Yes there is a possibility that Jeff Lacy turns into this era's Meldrick Taylor but there is also a possibility he becomes the next Marvin Hagler...no one knows what will happen (and if you do meet me in Vegas!)
The reason I dislike Kessler is mainly because of his fans (Royal) and the fact he won't fight outside of Denmark (2 out of 38 fights have been outside of Denmark). That's all well and good for his hometown fans but what about the rest of boxing....same goes for Calzaghe (except he has less crazy fans).
When is HBO going to bring you a big time fight from Denmark?
England has less of a problem because they have other fighters than Calzaghe.
Kessler is different from Jeff Lacy in that he has not siezed the oppertunity to do battle with THE MAN...maybe it's Frank Warren's fault but I don't really buy that. There have been some Danish fighters that have built up HUGE records and then stepped up the opposition and got flat out destroyed....and I think that has more to do with it.
Mikkel Kessler to me is a good technical fighter but I want him to show me something....which is no different than my feelings about Floyd Mayweather Jr. or anyone else
