Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Round: Marquez vs Jaca
Once again it's on bitches.
Wer'e back again for another installment of the Drunken Round by Round.
While this match may not have the high drama of last weekend's 3 round destruction of the great Erik Morales at the hands of the even greater Manny Pacquiao...it's still an important match up.
Wer'e going to be hitting the bottle hard right after the replay of the above mentioned destruction with HBO's Thanksgiving edition of Boxing After Dark as Juan Manuel Marquez takes on durable unknown Jimrex Jaca for the WBO's Featherweight Title.
This Saturday November the 25th, 2006 at the Dodge Arena in Hidalgo, Texas the former featherweight sensation Juan Manuel Marquez (49 fights, 45 wins with 34 ko's, 1 draw, & 3 losses) faces Jimrex Jaca (30 fights, 27 wins with 12 ko's, 1 draw, & 2 losses) of the Philippines, in a 12-rounder.
Usually...I post factors for these DRBR's...but...honestly people...this go around...I just aint got the time...too much family biz & I'm getting our November P4P list sorted out for discussion...so I'll make this one brief.
Marquez is known as one of the best P4P fighters in boxing. Marquez has lost 3 times...& those have been ify's. He lost to Chris John based on the fact that the hometown judges deemed his body shots to low & took enough points to equate to a win for John. Next! His very first Pro fight was a loss based upon a first round DQ. He lost to Norwood by way of a UD back in 1999 or 2000. After that...the biggie...the draw with Manny Pacquiao. This brought Marquez the most attention. After being knocked down three times in the first round...and hard I might add... he got up off the mat & fought back to nab a draw and keep his strap.
He would then go on to defeat Polo & Salido in low key bouts & then lose questionably to John (as stated above) before redeeming himself against Terdsak Jandaeng in a rough & tought see saw battle that ended in a 7th round TKO. Good stuff too.
Marquez wants bigger & better things by his own admission. He's signed with GBP in hopes of getting a crack at Pac & at Barrera...the Pac fight now may be unreachable due to the rivalry between Oscar & Arum...but there's still Barrera...provided that Pac doesn't eat him alive next March.
Again...all roads end at Pacquiao.
Right now though, the stop sign in Marquez's path is Jimrex Jaca...here again...all I know is that the kid is tought...but Marquez, IWO, is the tuffest of the tuff at his class...so we shall see...
I'll blab no further & say just this one thing:
Once again...it's fight night...so pour up a glass of your favorite poison, grab a seat on your favorite couch, toss the remote, peel your eyes, & break out the chips & salsa as we settle in for yet another installment of Wacko's Drunken Round by Round.
Cheers...& koneecheewah bitches.

I voted Marquez by decision.
Got a feeling Jaca might be a tuffy. Marquez is hella skilled though...so I could be wrong. ;D

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Round: Marquez vs Jaca
CC Wack, good read. Jaca is no bum, when you hear Nacho Bernstien say an opponent is tough,he must be! I expect JMM to win via decision but let me voice a bit of frustration here....JMM has signed with GBP,and they have this as a PPV fight? WTF!! And as for JMM,ANOTHER HIGH RISK 0000000 REWARD fight!!
Since he drew with Pac,he has just fought tough dangerous opponents(that Thai dude, forgot his name, great straight left hand),went to Indonesia to get robbed by Saint John(as Larry Merchant calls him) and has been relatively inactive at the age of 33!!! This is not the way to go! I'm a big fan of Em,fan of MAB and respect Pac but I tell you,JMM,fully foccused, beats them all.
He needs to move up in weight, fight MAB etc etc. Heck his style would give my boy V Nom(Valero) NIGHTMARES!!! And he is still the 1 with the best stlye to beat Pacquioa although Manny has improved a lot since then.
-
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Round: Marquez vs Jaca
IMO easy win for JMM, either middle tko or wide UD. saw only 1 fight of Jaca but he dint impress me, his tough and determined but he'll go down like the Thai boxer.
-
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Round: Marquez vs Jaca
Clearly another mismatch for JMM. But why is he taking the easy route again? He's wasting his precious time.
-
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Round: Marquez vs Jaca
I voted for JMM via TKO....
To be honest thats not the reason I'm watching this fight, I'm really watching this fight to determine if JMM defense has began to show signs of weakness.... Jaendang was hard puncher and gave JMM some trouble, shut his eye and all....
I wanna figure out was Jaendang that good in that fight ir is it JMM defense. This fight will answer some questions I have....
And to be honest, I don't want him to waist his time with John fuck'em the Indonesian Comm. can shove the belt up there arse!!!
Instead I want JMM to move on and seek the BIG fights....
IMO he needs to win in GREAT fashion, and by that I mean good defense and offense....

I'm with you...almost on all of this...but I want redemption.
I want that belt back.
Truthfully...Marquez has become my #1 favorite Mexi out there now that Morales has decided to retire.
I think that Marquez has the chin & the skills to defeat Manny...& truthfully...I think that he did in their first fight...but...I want to watch the fight just to watch Marquez work. When he's on point...Marquez is a thing of beauty.
He's over looked & is truly one of the most fluid boxers out there...people need to tune in & recognize...let's just hope Jaca aint as tough as he is supposed to be & that Juan don't take him lightly.
-
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Round: Marquez vs Jaca
These "comeback" fights with Marquez are starting to get to me. I don't want to keep tuning in to see him win easily and get a stoppage late in the fight, it's almost predictable.
Why doesn't he fight someone already? Rematch John, do something!

Have you seen the John fight? Seeing it is believing...he's nothing more than a home town hero that got a home town hero.

That's precisely what I was trying to point out. Believe me folks, I know Jaka, he's one of our own and definitely not any of Marquez' worthy contender. But of course as a fellow pinoy, I'd be wishing for an upset but that's almost as good as wishing for the sky - and in case you didn't know, that's the limit.

Look...I aint trying to pull out the dick on both of you...but there was no one else...Marquez was set up to fight Harrison & he went to jail.
You all have to remember that Marquez was ranked as the number one contender for the WBO feather strap & when legal troubles started up with Harrison...Marquez tried to keep busy playing the waiting game & headed off to a loss in Indonesian with Chris John.
Harrison then went to jail & Marquez had to take what he could get out there.
Jaca stood up & then sat down due to his visa...then stood up...sat down...& stood back up...I'm hoping...no offense to the Phillipines that JMM puts him on his ass...for good.
Marquez is keeping busy...but he's the number one guy & Pac has opted for MAB...so what else is there to do?
THere's no Harrison...so where else should he go? You can bet that he's waiting out the winner of Pac Barrera II...can you blame him?
Again...not trying to be a know it all...but JMM is just palying the waiting game...I would think.

Don't get me wrong, Wacko. I want to see the rematch more than anything else but only for the reason to prove that Pac can beat the man fair and square. I've been irked or more better pizzed off to hear that JMM can beat Pacquiao, who treated the fight as a tune-up match, just for the sole reason of the comeback, as spectacular as it may have seemed (though I have found a good reason for Pac's failure there and I'm now seriously looking for that important piece of evidence to prove it but unitil then I am keeping my big mouth shut coz I don't like to look like a fool), and with all my respect for JMM, I believe almost 100% Pac can beat him in 5 rounds or less, and of course you're entitled to your big laff here ;D. I'd been hearing almost the same thing after the 1st Morales fight that one-dementional Pac can never beat Morales but good for Pac, he proved them wrong. But as much as you and me want our respective revenge(s), JMM is letting it slip away from us. Remember, boxing is still a business, and it needs lot of hype, publicity to sell. Marquez and Pac went on completely different directions after their fight. While Pac fought lots of good fights and has clearly become a superstar, Marquez chose the road to obcurity and THIS IS THE REASON that has pizzed this poor pacfan. He can't rely on that spectacular comeback forever, though remembered by many fans but being buried gradually by his subsequents lackluster fights. He's got to do something spectacular, he's got to get some attention, he needs a big publicity to push himself up in line to Pac - and remember, there are plenty of them already lining up with some trying to come in with self-promotion (and who's this kid who's trying to promote Joan Guzman on his thread and got everyone here pizzed off with his antics and geezy, I can't believe it, he's gotten himself 6 pages on the last count, that's genious, he got all of them fooled!) It's not that Pac don't want him, its simply just he's got nothing much to show now to sell the fight in the eyes of promoters. And fighting a kid like Jaka won't help much either.
But I've got one good fighter who can help his cause. I think it will be Oscas Larios, a tough guy whom Pac breezed through on the performance rating of 6 - as Fred Roach puts it. Larios came from notch behind Marquez' weight class to climb two notches to that of Pac's so I think it won't be dificult for him to go down to a featherweight. Marquez can try to show something spectacular against him to get notice of the fans and, more importantly, of the promoters. This may be his last chance and time is fast running out on him. Let's just hope he will. :)

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Round: Marquez vs Jaca
What was the problem with Jaca getting a visa that stopped the last time these two were gonna rumble? I thought that that had in fact scuppered this one too? WE getting an update on the D-Hop fight as well Wackster?
I'll be up listening to the cricket on the old wireless, so I'll be showing my face and throwing my half-arsed opinions into the fray I'm sure yyou'll be glad to know :p

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Round: Marquez vs Jaca
JMM wasn't at his best when he faught John, but I thought he was beaten by the the better man on the night, his ability isn't in question, but if he gets beat by Jaca then I think that you can begin to question his long term credentials. Until then, his name can still belong with the 126/130 elite, and an impressive performance on saturday will go some way to getting him another title fight.

At the time of Marquez downfall...he was poorly marketed...that's a fact...not an excuse...no sore feet or hurt hands...he was marketed poorly...hence the shit fights that were set up.
Now, in the hands of GBP, he lands the Harrison fight...that goes to hell...& once again...here we are.
Marquez wants the Pac rematch...but at the time...he retained his title for the draw & wanted the bigger money for the risk...again...the business of which we often speak.

I'm not being a smart ass...but seriously...did you see that fight?
Marquez lost...if I remember correctly 2 points for low blows that were borderline. He landed one low blow & then every other body shot near the belt the Indo's & the ref squeled over.
I'm with you that he took John lightly...but I'm not in agreement with the loss.

I know your not being a smart ass, and yes I watched the fight and the low blows were questionable, if there were no deductions then on my card he'd have won by a round, so in that respect I guess he never lost, but JMM should have been a little smarter, he should have seen that the ref was calling em low and given him no excuse to deduct. Thats the nature of boxing away. Sometimes his boxing can be deemed as passive even though its beautiful and effective, it isn't the type that poor judges want to see. I hate it too wack, but you have to box to win, and that means adapting to the environment, if it means taking risks then you should. John performed well, and he knew what he should be doing to get the rounds. If the fight was in the US then I think it would have been a clear UD for JMM.

Agreed. Marquez should have taken it into account...but I suppose that sometimes...it's hard enough to concentrate on one man in the ring instead of two.
I also agree that you have to fight to win...either way...Marquez should have turned it up another gear & he'd be fine.

Mick...someone needs to have a word with you about the sunglasses indoors....it's not big or clever ;) Anyhow, i recognise DLH and Claude Abrams, who are the other two young chaps on the sig with you?
As for the prediction, JMM is going to be looking to make a big statement now that s**tfaced Scott Harrison is back in the ring, or will be in 2 weeks, because now that he won't get the belt by default, he'll be angling for a title fight ASAP in the new year. I reckon it'll be over within 5. JMM's got the pedigree to take him a part, just like a pure bred staffy bull terrier.

:coolclick: as usual, the yin to my yang, and any input always welcome. I was a bit cut and dry in the first post, but sometimes I find it hard to like JMM, Mayweather or Mosley as talented and incredible as they are, because I like watching guys getting hit but still finding a way to win. It's like some people like tea, others prefer coffee. It doesn't mean i don't respect them all the same. Being a brit, I grew up watching my guys take leather, yet still loving them all the same, you get used to it! The fighters in the vein of Nigel Benn, Ricky Hatton, Roberto Duran, Miguel Cotto, Tony Margarito, Pac-man, they all don't mind taking a shot because they know the one they are dishing out will hurt the other guy more, they're who I love to watch most, and the ones I always tend to route for, with the a few exceptions, ODLH, Winky Wright, B-hop, Barrera and a load of others, but generally, growing up with the likes of Benn, McGuigan, Eubankl, Calzaghe and Hatton all on my screen and talked about by my family, they're the guys I like, and like to back and watch most.

You can't cool click untill you reach 100+ posts, judging by the way your posting nonsense in almost every thread you'll be there in about 5 minutes... But since it's all spam you'll probably be gone in about 5 days from this site if you keep it up. ;)

:'(
He's too open to straights to stand a chance against Marquez. He's trying to be Mayweather Leonard and Ali and was hurt in that fight
I was hoping he would put up a fight against Marquez but after seeing that I don't think he has one :(

Indeed, Marquez is one of the most skilled fighters today... My prediction is Marquez TKO...
