The Top Three Pound for Pound Fighters in the World...VOTE!
So many things dictate P4P & they are all different in everyone's eyes...but one thing is for sure...wev'e all agreed that Wright, Mayweather, & Pacquiao are our top three.
Vote above on the way it plays out so that we might be able to sort this out...& if you want to wait until the end of December...that's understandable due to the fact that Wright & Taylor both have fights coming up.
The Pound for Pound list will be updated according to your votes on January the 2nd, 2007...so get those votes in people.
Cheers, Happy New Years, & koneecheewah bitches.

Re: The Top Three Pound for Pound Fighters in the World...VOTE!
Why so many votes for option one? you guys are crazy... :P
WW is P4P number one! ;D
-
Re: The Top Three Pound for Pound Fighters in the World...VOTE!
I had it winky, pac then pbf. The first 2 proved they can do it against serious competition. #3 is p4p #1 against c level or lower class opposition.
-
Re: The Top Three Pound for Pound Fighters in the World...VOTE!
Well i have it Pac, then Winky, unfortunately i had to vote for PBF as he is on the list ::**
As you say wacko people rate the P4P differently. I was under the impression the ratings were brought out so as to compare fighters from different weight classes, and not to judge the boxers who are capable of moving through the divisions due to they build. I personally have just as much respect for a fighter who campaigns at one maybe two divisions for their whole carrer, than one who leaps from one to another and on again. The reason i say this is it would then be hard for a heavyweight to attain P4P status as they cannot move as easily through the divisions.
Lennox Lewis would certainly be in my all time top10 P4P as he took on and beat all in his weight class, whereas PBF is yet to do that in any of the divisions since lightweight. Kudos to him for taking the Oscar fight though ;)

Re: The Top Three Pound for Pound Fighters in the World...VOTE!
Floyd #1, Winky #2, Pacquiao #3
Floyd is the clear #1 in my opinion because he is the most physically gifted of the three. He's also the only fighter of the three who has an unblemished professional record, whereas Pacquiao and Winky have both had several fights which they have not won.
I don't understand why the anti-Floyd argument is always based on the idea that he's not fighting quality opponents.
At 130 he destroyed Diego Corrales, who was a top 10 PFP in his own right at the time, and in fact many "experts" favored Corrales in that fight.
At 135, he beat Jose Luis Castillo, who wasn't a huge name at the time, but who has since become one of the bigger names in the sport. Castillo's name can also be found on plenty of top 10 or top 15 PFP lists.
At 140 Floyd destroyed Gatti, who was completely overmatched, but he was a beltholder. It's not like there were tons of other great fighters at 140 who Floyd decided to duck. And please don't say Cotto (who wasn't nearly ready for that kind of fight), or Hatton (who Floyd would rip to shreds).
At 147, he fought Judah, who despite being mentally weak, may be the most physically gifted fighter in the welterweight division other than Floyd.
Then Floyd took on the undisputed champ in Baldomir and pitched a shutout. What was he supposed to do, pass up a chance to win the undisputed title and instead fight Antonio Margarito? That makes no sense.
It's a classic case of a guy winning so easily all the time that it's automatically assumed he's ducking guys. Like it's his fault that he's such a superior fighter.
I don't think it's fair to bash Floyd for fighting mediocre competition unless someone can produce the names of fighters at 130-147 that could've beaten Floyd while he was fighting at those weights. Because I don't see anyone that could.

Totally disagree with that...even being a fan of Wright & Floyd...I think that Floyd comes first based on acheivments alone.

It's not only on the fact of moving up. There are fighters that remain at their weights & fight a bunch of chumps & stay undefeated...I just don't agree with them being P4P...but many do...& many rate their favorite fighters that way...I don't.
It's just how you view it.

Yeap. Lewis should be P4P in my opinion because Lewis fought game opponents & fixed his losses...that's a gimmee.
Floyd has beaten plenty of game names...not just 1 or 2.
I would say that I'm surprised you view it that way...but Mattyhitman...I am not...I'm sure that you can imagine why surprise eludes me on the matter. ;)

Re: The Top Three Pound for Pound Fighters in the World...VOTE!
#1 Mayweather have skills like no other. he can bust his hand early in a fight, and still blitz his opponent on the cards. he has many tools and a huge arsenal of punches at his disposal. He comes in immaculate condition.. I like him at 135 best. he puts his foot on the gas a bit more at that weight.
#2 Pacman - thrill factor is huge. and had nice power in both hands. really commits to his shots.
#3 Jermaine Taylor - Beating Hopkins twice and drawing Wright in a fight where I had Taylor winning by 2 rounds. Gotta go with Jermaine. O0
-
Re: The Top Three Pound for Pound Fighters in the World...VOTE!
#1: Mayweather!
#2: Pacquiao!
#3: R. Marquez

I agree...but what about Wright handling Quartey now? That was an accomplishemnt in itself. My bwoy done good.

Gotta disagree. He beat Hopkins decisively in the 2nd match...but not the first. Hopkins battered him from the 8th or 9th round & on. He even outlanded him on all connect percentages.
HBO was just riding Taylor's joke & that's that. H elost to Wright also. Wright was backing him up almost the entire time. I was impressed...with Wright's performance. His jab & defense negated Taylor's game plan, completely.

Re: The Top Three Pound for Pound Fighters in the World...VOTE!
Based on excitement:
1.Pacquaio rules
2. PBF sucks
3. Winky : average
-
Re: The Top Three Pound for Pound Fighters in the World...VOTE!
Pac-man, Cotto and Klitschko
-
Re: The Top Three Pound for Pound Fighters in the World...VOTE!
Pac, PBF, Winky
Pac = speed, power
PBF = speed
Winky = boring
-
Re: The Top Three Pound for Pound Fighters in the World...VOTE!
#1 pacman
#2 floyd
#3 winky
-
Re: The Top Three Pound for Pound Fighters in the World...VOTE!
PBF, Pac, Wright...
If Pac can beat JMM next then he is numero 1, PBF as good as he is does frustrate me a little in his opponent selection at the moment
-
Re: The Top Three Pound for Pound Fighters in the World...VOTE!
WHAT???
top 3 pound per pound fighters are
1) Nicolai Valuev
2) James Toney
3) Laila Ali (ok shes not very good but she's cute and i kinda dig her)
now pash teh eggnog!
-
Re: The Top Three Pound for Pound Fighters in the World...VOTE!
As much as I love PAC, PBF is undefeated and totally a well rounded fighter as compared to PAC.
1. PBF
2. PAC
3. Winky
-
Re: The Top Three Pound for Pound Fighters in the World...VOTE!
Its completely beyond me how 18 people have voted for Manny to be infront of Mayweather.
-
Re: The Top Three Pound for Pound Fighters in the World...VOTE!
pac is #1
talk about recent accomplishment
mab, em twice, draw with jmm only because judge scoring error.
all three names are huge bigger then winkys and pbfs oppenent.
winky is #2
tito, mosley twice draw with j.t
names are close to pacs oppenents but the way pac wins is absolutely dominating, winky is about containing no big finishes.
pbf is #3
baldomir, gatti , judah
talk about inconsistent fighters, if u argue pac got outbox by jmm well pbf was beat to the punch by judah in the first half of the fight til judah ran out of gas.plus there should of been a k.d pbfs glove touched the canvas by a judah punch.
base on talent and potential
pbf is # 1
he still undefeated but recently who's the biggest name on his record? baldomir?...only if pbf had pacs hunger and heart he`d stay in one division til he completely dominates the division...instead he jumps division never fighting the other big names in the division...now a fight against oscar? an old oscar already past prime jst like how pac and winky get bash saying mab em mosley tito were past prime...for sure pbf gets same treatment...keep in mind oscar is not suddenly the great oscar after whooping don kings ginny pig remember oscar should of lost to sturm and got k.oed by bhop...potential and talent pbf #1 but his totally dissapointing.
pac is # 1
closely following pbf, and still we may have not yet since a prime pac...pac has huge punching power both left and right now with blazing speed plus an increasing countering game and showing defensive abbility with head movements...pac of today looks to completely dominate his division without anyone getting in his way.
j.t is #3
young but already put two great names on his record...won against bhop twice, draw with winky...it is very difficult to look good against both bhop and winky but yet young j.t is still undefeated too.
winky not included because his on his prime and only looking to decrease by getting older.
base on excitement
pac hands down #1
no competition pac is great for the sport...we need a pac in every division specially in the heavys...some1 with finishing hunger some1 we never hear about his purse some1 who just wants to eat every oppenents heart and then smiles while doing it...and not giving a damn about abc title just as long as he hears ur great too he will want u next.
in 07 I hope to see pbf beat oscar and go back to welterweights and dominate whoop tony whoop cotto everyone...I like pbf I'm just dissapointed I want him to prove and shut up every doubt...if he remains undefeated after taking on the other hype names in welterweight like hatton cotto tony then he is p4p 1...but a coming prime pac when he beats either jmm or mab or both and takes out hype champs valero and guzman...then we will still have a huge argument wheather pac or pbf gets top spot...but I love both guys just that I'm more dissapointed in pbf recently and he better not retires because a whole dozen of ifs and doubts his going to be leaving behind...and that top spot will be easily ruled by pac without pbf.

Really? How many titles in different weight classes does Wright lay claim to? I'm pretty sure that is what defines you as a pound for pound fighter. Mayweather has won more and done more. That's why he gets my vote for pound for pound fighter of the year, hands down.

Thats not how you define a P4P fighter, by titles... P4P is strctly an opinion and is ussually debated harshly... The way I see it is P4P is quality of opposition and The fashion in which you win... Along with being consistant... You can win titles and not be P4P... Infact I can name many 1 or 2 time title holders that do not lay claim to a P4P slot... PBF(friggin hate him)#1 ... Would love Winky @ #2 but that goes to PAC and Winky @ # 3...

Re: The Top Three Pound for Pound Fighters in the World...VOTE!
I have it Wright, Pacquio, Mayweather.....Like I have said before it's not so much that I don't think Foyd has the skills to be #1 it is his choice of opponents that keep him off there for me anyhow...
3.Floyds last 4 went--Baldo, Zab, Mitchell, Gatti...Baldo I understand because he was Ring champion at 147 but at 140??? We choose Sharmba Mitchell other than a fight with another Champion?....Why the sudden departure from 135?...I know he could make the weight and there were still fights....IMO Floyd is a great fighter who can beat just about anyone on any given night but chooses the easiest opp available....Dont take my word for it...His record speaks for it self....http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=352
AND NO ONE DUCKS FLOYD!!!! so that can not be used as an excuse...If anything he is the most sought out guy
2.Manny Pacquio-His last fights went-Morales, Larios, Morales, Velazquez, Morales, 3K Battery, Marquez...Losing only to Morales in what might have been Eriks last great moment....See the level of comp difference
1.Winky Wright-Quartey,Taylor,Soliman, Trinidad, Mosley twice....He had a draw with Taylor who was bigger and younger...the previous he won...Matter of Fact he hasn't lost since 1999....Even if you beat him you don't BEAT him....you edge him out slightly....if he had some power he would be damn near unstoppable...He is getting up there in age but still the best defensive fighter in the game....You cant hit him flush in a phone booth. His time is short age will catch him but for now he is the best out there. Like DLH Winky seeks the best...I also agree with his decision not to fight Taylor unless it is a 50/50 split. Why should Taylor get the bigger cut?...using the belts as his reasoning doesn't cut it...Today we all know the title really is just decoration

Mayweather, Pacq, Wright
but thought hard about voting the second way.
Mayweather, Wright, Pacq
Manny Pacq is a bit wreckless in my opinion. Yes, The Hulk is wreckless but this is boxing not comic books.

Having titles at different weight class just shows that a boxer had beaten other champion boxers. The caliber is 'champion'. Then it just shows greatness IMO.

:coolclick: Agreed. It's all a toss up.
Pac being as wreckless as he is...has proven to bring out the most excitement...my only issue is with his record & Wright's also. There are only 3-4 names on their records.
Floyd has fought the better opposition, IWO.

Re: The Top Three Pound for Pound Fighters in the World...VOTE!
Absolutely
1. Pacquiao
2. Wright
3. Mayweather
Pacquiao has proven to be worthy. Speed, power, stamina, , excitement...and most importantly the quality of opposition. He's done it all!
-
Re: The Top Three Pound for Pound Fighters in the World...VOTE!
1. Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao
2. Floyd Mayweather Jr.
3. Winky Wright
Pacman has the warrior spirit and brings total excitement. He KO'd the number 1 and number 2 Top Mexican Boxers. He is currently the most dangerous fighter out there today.

Re: The Top Three Pound for Pound Fighters in the World...VOTE!
Mayweather #1 without a doubt.P4P means that if they were all the same size who would come out on top.Based on facts...
Pac.1.He lunges with his punches 2.he is often off balance 3.he bounces which makes you prone to run into more punches 3.his defense is good but not great.
Mayweather-1.What flaws can you spot?
Winky-1.He stands flat footed at times. 2.He tends to pity pat punches.3.his combinations arent great.
speed-PBF
stamina-PBF
power-PBF-Pac tie
Ring awareness-PBF
expirience-PBF-he was born into the sport(he only has 6 losses in his lifetime)
footwork-PBF
counter punching-PBF-Winky-tie
Excitement-Pac
Defense-PBF-Winky-tie
feel free to make improvements...

pac has great stamina too and almost as fast. about experience... when fighting more tough competitions... pac has definitely the edge against mayweather.
mayweathers edge is his flawless defense, counter-punching and ring-awareness.

Re: The Top Three Pound for Pound Fighters in the World...VOTE!
Top Ten Reasons Why Pacman Is Pound-For-Pound King
1. Pacman has brought a glow to the face of Larry Merchant. It's an orange-reddish tint which is usually only produced in men of Sir Lawrence's age when they take one tablet of Cialis or Viagra. Pacman brings joy to Larry's heart and soul and that is a good thing.
2. Pacman conducts himself like a gentleman at press conferences. Perhaps he can tutor James Toney and other louts so they can reform their too often boorish behavior in public..
3. Pacman is modest. Unlike PBF, Pound for Pound Biggest Ego around, he does not tell the media that he has surpassed the legendary ring exploits of an Ali or a Robinson. Modesty is becoming when it is real and I am sure it one of the reasons the Pacmaniacs adore him.
4. To use a British expression, Pacman does not slag or insult his present or future opponents. You don't hear him calling Barrera a taco-eating idiot, Joan Guzman a Dominican dolt or Edwin Valero a vicious Venezeulan. He seems to respect all opponents until the first bell rings. And he has the large "eggs" so that, if it made financial sense he would travel to Santo Domingo to fight Guzman, Mexico City to fight MAB or JM Marquez and to Caracas or Tokyo to fight Valero (who is promoted by Mr, Honda-San of Teiken.) What do I base this on? Well, Pacman went to San Antonio to fight MAB which is the same as fighting a Mexican in Mexico. You can check that out with Sweet Pea Whitaker who did not know that JC Chavez had 60,000 "cousins" until he fought that national idol in San Antone.
5. They never built a monument to Julio Cesar Chavez in Mexico, although both Culiacan and/or Mexico City should have. But they are erecting a monument to Manny in the PI as befitting a national hero. Do you think either Grand Rapids or Las Vegas will ever erect a monument to Mr. F. Mayweather Jr.? It's more likely PBF commissions his own and puts it in his Vegas backyard. Notice how I avoided using the verb "erect" in reference to those sexual stimulants which, or so I hear, can give one a Larry Merchant like glow of Pacmania excitement.
6. Pacman will probably start getting endorsement deals from ATLA, the American Association of Trial lawyers, or the American Bar Association. With his busy pen, Pacman signs contracts with just about every manager, promoter or boxing agent he meets and spends, oh say, about 20 minutes of time with.
7. Two or three more defeats and I bet Manny is a good enough of a brother to tell Bobby Pacquaio it is time to retire from boxing. Muhammad Ali, stung when his brother Rahaman lost to Dan McAlinden on the first Ali-Frazier fight undercard March 8, 1971, forced Rahaman to hang up the gloves. He then Rahaman a job with a less then detailed description. Once, when asked what service younger brother provided to Muhammad, Ali said, "I pay him $50,000 a year and that ain't bad for driving and jiving. Bobby Pac can become the driver and jiver for Manny.
8. He's got three losses and two draws but I cannot remember ever hearing about Pacman turning into a whino meaning a crybaby meaning an excuse-maker meaning a whimp. If memory serves, he did not even moan and groan when the late Agapito Sanchez gave him an Eusebio Pedroza Dirty Tricks Lesson.
9. I think Joan Guzman has the style to befuddle Pacman. I think Pacman handles the fading MAB and JM Marquez. I think Gzuman is much hungrier than MAB and might have a tough fight with would find a way to beat JMM. What makes Pacman-Guzman is great boxing theater is that, peering ahead into 2007, that I make it an even money or pick 'em fight. I cannot think of another "dream match" that I can say that about. Let me know if you can.
10. Pacman has more fans in Cebu City than PBF does in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio.
Mayweather has never beaten or even fought ANYBODY who will be in the Hall of Fame. He is a greatly gifted boxer (note I did not say fighter) who is frail, has no real punching power and will be totally dominated and knocked stupid by DeLaHoya, who is bigger, much stronger and hits like a mule. No contest after Mayweather gets hit the first time, which will come early. He is a later day edition of RJjr, a soft chinned overrated fighter of all time. Id'd love to see Pretty Boy get his face flattened by Sugar Shane, he would probably not hear the bell for round 5. Bet on Mayweather, hope you got a lotta change & deep pockets!

Small nitpick, but Gatti will likely be in the Hall of Fame.

Well, the sport is called "boxing," not "fighting".....

Could you cite some examples of Floyd's soft chin? Maybe a time where he was badly wobbled by a below average puncher, or a time when he was knocked down?

Shane hasn't KO'd an opponent in 5 rounds or less since he fought Adrian Stone (who?) six years ago.

Fraud Gayweather is overrated, overranked, overhyped, and untested.
He's been ducking Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley, Antonio Margorito, and even his fellow overrated fighter.. Hatton.
Pac meanwhile has been fighting best of the best. He dropped his taller/bigger opponent lately.
I'm not hatin' y'all. Just stating the truth and being objective.

Pac also has prime losses...Solis was a NOBODY!
As for ducking Cotto,Margo, and Hatton...other than Kostyza they have beaten C+ fighters.Instead of whining and trying to say that he has been ducking them...why dont they step up and make him fight then as did Baldomir.
As for Mosley...Floyd chased him for years...now all of a sudden after he takes a couple of losses and needs his name out there for a big fight...he starts calling Floyd out.

To all the Floyd sycophants I have this to say: I don’t hate Floyd but I think someone with his talent and ability, which is enormous, should fight the best available competition. He got by Judah and Baldomir- 2 very good welters. That’s great - but there are more guys to beat in that division before he can be anointed KING. I believe he avoided Margarito consistently and if the TJ Tornado was such an easy fight why didn’t he roll through him for an easy $8M score? He didn’t do that because he knew Margarito was much too risky a proposition that may have cost him his shot at the Golden Boy. Floyd was a great 130 pounder. He fought the best there. He is an all-time great in that division. At 135, I thought he got a gift against Jose Luis Castillo, and I layed the 4-1 on Floyd in that fight, and he won a close nod in the rematch.
He fought 3 fights at 140 and beat Corley, Bruseles and Gatti, respectively. All good fighters, but certainly not the best in that division. He bypassed Kostya Tszyu and Ricky Hatton at 140 so he declined to prove he was the best there. As I said, he’s beaten some very good welters but has not beaten the very best in that division. My issue with him is that claims to be the very best fighter in the world while he actively avoids certain fights, and clearly hasn’t beaten the best in the welterweight division. If he does eventually beat them, I’ll give him that credit and tip my hat to him. I just think his actions contradict his statements. He finally got the fight he wanted for personal and monetary reasons (which is fine) by getting the fight with De la hoya. If he wins, he’ll rationalize that he’s done it all and will most likely retire. I understand he’s done enough to be a Hall of Famer but, except for De la hoya, I don’t think he’s willing to fight guys that can REALLY test him at this point in time. I don’t respect that in a great fighter, simple as that. He should be willing to test himself against all comers based on his statements - but he doesn’t. But all time great fighters want to fight the very best and not bullshit the unsuspecting (and I’m being kind) public. And as I said, he’s an all time great at 130 but he never proved that he was the best at 140 and has yet to prove he reigns supreme at Welterweight. You can’t just say you are the greatest and not fight the best guys. It’s that simple. I don’t think Manny Pacquiao will be ducking anybody which is why he has passed Floyd as the best in the world.
BTW, between Floyd when was at 130 against today’s PacMan? I got the Pacman winning by big KO on that.
