CARL FROCH TARGETING KESSLER
FROCH HAS KESSLER TARGET
British and Commonwealth super-middleweight champion Carl Froch has set his sights on Mikkel Kessler's WBC title providing he disposes of domestic challenger Tony Dodson tonight.
The 29-year-old Nottingham fighter finally gets it on with Dodson after the Liverpudlian former champion pulled out of scheduled contests between the pair three times due to injury.
At the time Froch labelled Dodson a "bottle job" but has accepted the grudge match at the Nottingham Arena as he looks to win the Lonsdale belt for keeps with a third defence, before relinquishing both that title and his Commonwealth crown to move up to European and world level.
Froch told PA Sport: "Dodson is going to try to burst the Froch bubble but I'm not going to let that happen.
"I'm going to move on to European and world level. That's what I'm looking at doing. I'm going to sit down with (promoter) Mick Hennessy and see what next fight is the right fight for me to move on towards the WBC world title.
"I'm currently ranked number three in the world with the WBC so whichever fight is going to bring me closer to becoming the mandatory challenger, that's the one we're going to take - whether that be a 10-round international contest or a European title fight."
Froch repeatedly called out Welshman Joe Calzaghe in the past but now accepts Danish champion Kessler is a more likely opponent.
"Kessler is 27 and Calzaghe's 34. If Calzaghe was ever going to fight me it would have been a year ago when he was making voluntary defences of his WBO title and could have boxed me," said Froch.
"But now I get the impression he's looking at earning some decent money in one or two more fights then he's going to retire.
"He's 34, he struggles at super-middleweight and I think he's looking at stepping up a weight to light-heavyweight so that fight probably won't happen.
"It won't be long until I get my mandatory shot at Kessler. If Calzaghe moves up he'll vacate two belts, the IBF and WBO, so you never know what's around the corner.
"There are a couple of quality fighters coming through. There are loads of doors I could go through to get me in contention for the world title. I'm happy to take whichever route is going to be better for me."
Froch added: "The only reason I'm fighting Dodson is to win the Lonsdale belt outright. You defend it three times and you keep the belt, and that's the reason.
"Other than that it's pointless fighting Dodson because it's a step backwards. But obviously when you win the Lonsdale belt outright it's not a step backwards because it's something to show your grandkids and it's prestigious to own a Lonsdale. Then I'll move up to European and world level.
"He's going to try to take the British title belt off me. It's my job to stop him and I will be doing that.
"I'll be stopping him in about round six or seven. I'll be knocking him spark out. He reckons I don't knock anybody out so I've got a point to prove now."

Re: CARL FROCH TARGETING KESSLER
Call him arrogant?
I call him confident and am really warming to Froch.
OK his defence is suspect but is'nt that what makes us all tune in time and time again?
True with me and you never know what's gonna happen when Froch climbs through the ropes except fireworks.
We like the Cobra round my way 8)

Re: CARL FROCH TARGETING KESSLER
Then he had best not lose tomorrow.
-
Re: CARL FROCH TARGETING KESSLER
Can't see it at all ;)
9th round stoppage i think and don't be surprised at all if he goes on to win a World title.
Calzaghe has moved the goalposts due to being stripped by the IBF ;)
Great news for people like Froch.

Re: CARL FROCH TARGETING KESSLER
If I was Kessler I'd say bring'em.... Eventhough Froch hasn't beaten anyone to deserve a shot at the titles...... I mean don't let this whole Kessler-Joe end up like PBF-Margarito where you stay incative waiting around for the fight to happen.... IMO Kessler should keep busy and IMO he could beat Froch via mid-way TKO rd. 7 or so.. 8)

Re: CARL FROCH TARGETING KESSLER
Don't think Froch is ready for a Kessler as yet and expect him to Euro it up for a few fights before he faced him.
One thing i can promise you is that if the opportunity arose,Froch would jump at the chance..
NO EXCUSE ;)
For that reason he gets sh*tloads of respect from me and he'd deffo have a real good go at Kessler 8)

I know hes got heart I think by the time hes ready for the big boys there will be other names in the mix... So he should just take it easy I mean less then 20 fights isn't saying much, even if he had 100+ amateur fights still not the same... One thing I like is when they carry careers out nicely not too slow and not too fast... And what they are doing with Froch for now is just fine the quality of his opponents are just right...

Re: CARL FROCH TARGETING KESSLER
He won't hear of it ;D
CARL Froch believes he can beat Joe Calzaghe to a super-middleweight showdown with Mikkel Kessler.
Calzaghe wants to fight the Dane Kessler, but Froch claims he could face the WBC and WBA champion first.
Froch defends his British and Commonwealth titles tonight against Tony Dodson at Nottingham and he said: "I'm determined to become world champ."
-
Re: CARL FROCH TARGETING KESSLER
Froch is trying to bite off more than he can chew right now. He's not ready for Kessler. But he does deserve credit for having more heart and balls than Calzaghe.
-
Re: CARL FROCH TARGETING KESSLER
He's always vocal and that puts a**es on seats ;)
-
Re: CARL FROCH TARGETING KESSLER
i'll go for Froch via KO over the dane ;D
-
Re: CARL FROCH TARGETING KESSLER
The Dane would find Froch a right handful imo O0
-
Re: CARL FROCH TARGETING KESSLER
Not big on Froch...but I think it'd be a hell of a fight.
Kessler by a loooooooong tuff 12er.
-
Re: CARL FROCH TARGETING KESSLER
im beginning to warm to froch too, thought he was a braggart first with no substance but his Ko of Magee impressed me. I do think hes got a scrap on his hands with Dodson but should come through.
Now is the time to move up to World level
-
Re: CARL FROCH TARGETING KESSLER
See he is winning the public over with his F*ck you attitude and willingness to fight anyone 8)
Fair play Cobra and it's good to see so many people getting behind the fella ;)
-
Re: CARL FROCH TARGETING KESSLER
Carl has fought before in copenhagen as an Am and likes the place i read somewhere..
Trust me (and i really like Kess) but Froch would win.
Just cos' he aint champ yet - he will be soon and you'll know his name.
Cut Me Mick - Froch has the best chin in the entire Div - how would Kess KO him?
Froch aint ever been down...not even wobbled FACT
He could be out-pointed, never stopped.
-
Re: CARL FROCH TARGETING KESSLER
Froch does have a granite chin and i think he beats Kessler as i said earlier.
Really don't see what all the fuss is about with Kessler? ???
He needs a few fights more but Froch would go through him imo.

Re: CARL FROCH TARGETING KESSLER
Credit to Froch for calling out Kessler...more than what Calzaghe is doing! Kessler would decision him handily though IMO...
-
Re: CARL FROCH TARGETING KESSLER
So Kessler does have fans ;D
CARL THE COBRA AH-FROCH
Love the way he say's that 8)
-
Re: CARL FROCH TARGETING KESSLER
I'll say it again ;D

Kessler has beaten a number of very decent fighters and now has 2 belts.
To reverse the question...who on earth has Froch beaten exactly that Kessler couldnt annihilate?
Froch is too green, really! He is calling out Kessler because he knows he is closer to 30 than any other decade in his life and wants a paycheck! He isnt ready for Calzaghe or Kessler. He is just moving out of the domestic scene now.
He wont amount to much IMO...sounds harsh but its just my take on Froch...too little, too late...
-
Re: CARL FROCH TARGETING KESSLER
Miles at a push i'll give you Anthony Mundine.
That's it though ;D

:coolclick:, for the chuckle you gave me there! ;D
Im no Kessler nuthugger as you probably know, but he is clearly the second best out there at this point in time. Froch is 29 and hasnt even got 20 fights inside him yet. He is still wet behind the ears. I would like him to do well, but I just think its a case of too little too late...
-
Re: CARL FROCH TARGETING KESSLER
Don't get me wrong,Froch needs a 2 probably 3 more before he's ready.
Well capable of an upset.
CC back
hahaha

I hope you are right, Ive nothing against Froch...it would be funny to see him take the belts off Kessler. Just hard for me to picture it though...
He needs to really step it up in the year though...

Re: CARL FROCH TARGETING KESSLER
He better not f*cking lose later :-X
-
Re: CARL FROCH TARGETING KESSLER
No offence to anyone from the UK, but I think people are just starting to hype up Froch now that it's less likely Calzaghe will fight Kessler. Carl Froch is not in Calzaghe or Kesslers league imo... His defence has shone through as absolute shit, even against mediocre opponents.. How can you say he has the best chin, or couldn't be KOed, when he's never faced anyone with anywhere near the arsenal and power of KEssler, or Calzaghe.. IMO they would both have a field day and dismantle him badly, stopping him or not, Froch would not win.I don't even consider Froch to be the best SMW prospect, I would love to see him fight Lucian Bute or Jean Pascal, much more fundamentally sound prospects.
-
Re: CARL FROCH TARGETING KESSLER
I will Agree that Kessler has been protected to much by his manager, but in Denmark they meet a lot of bums before getting a record like 30-0-0 (30 KO) ready for a shot at any title.
But Kessler is gifted with a great talent, that in my opinion have been wasted against bums so far except the last 4 or 5 fights. I am just happy he now will face quality opponents every time now, and we will see how good Kessler is against the best.
Doubt we will see any unification but hey if IBF strips Calzaghe then I am sure Kessler would go for it, his dream is to unify all the major titles. But I don't see Froggy next in line.

I think Kessler style would brake down Froch, especially right now. Thats why I said eralier he needs a couple of more fights I like Froch he makes for good entertainment and from what I have seen of him don't think he could be in a dull fight.

You state these things as if they are facts... When he hasn't even fought anyone on a world class level. How do you know he couldn't be KOed when he hasn't fought anyone who hits half as hard as Kessler, or is half as accurate and busy as Calzaghe.. With his defence I don't care how good his chin is I would pick both of them to stop him late. He has never been down or wobbled... So what, he has 19 fights and one decent opponent, who was easily outpointed by an old Robin Reid and lost to Vitali Typsko, neither of which had as much trouble in defeating Magee as Froch did. It's just silly the way this guy is being hyped since Calzaghe signed to fight Manfredo.. Heartbreakingly predictable really.. The best SMW by FAR is a UK fighter, and Kessler is clearly the man he has to beat, but since it won't happen... All of a sudden Froch is world class, and would win undoubtedly. PAthetic.

I agree with that .
Carl has given up calling out Joe and now he's trying his luck with Kessler . I dont think he has a prayer with either TBH . In 12 months time Mikkel will be top 10 p4p material and I dont see him slipping up any time soon .

Re: CARL FROCH TARGETING KESSLER
Kessler is huge for the weight, strong, experienced beaten a higher level of competition and hits hard too. He has a good jab, good defence although is slightly stiff and robotic(would LOVE to see him against Lacy!). Froch is exciting but Kessler would be a big step up for him and I don't think he could handle it but hey,he has the power and kudos to him for mentioning Kessler,he has nothing to lose!

Has Kessler ever been down? Or hurt in a fight?

Re: CARL FROCH TARGETING KESSLER
Kessler has fought less fights at 168 than The Cobra.
Froch has had over 100+ amatuer fights and has fought the best all around the world.
Former World Senior Amateur Championships Bronze Medallist
Former Multi Nations Gold Medallist
Former Double ABA Champion
Kessler is going to get bitten in 2007 if Andrade dont KO him first.

Mark Breland and Kelcie Banks were outstanding amateurs. It didn't do them no good as pros. If this is why you think Froch can beat Kessler than your beyond reaching.

I like Kessler.

Re: CARL FROCH TARGETING KESSLER
Kessler would really take those opportunitys when Froch leaves his chin out to dry. Kessler by late TKO or decision.
