RBR Carl Froch v Tony Dodson - BBBofC Super Middleweight belt
Evning all, the nights are drawing in, the beer is getting more neccessary in an attempt to keep warm, and it's raining. A lot. So naturally time to turn our sights indoors once again to boxing, and this one is an absolute grudge match without a doubt. These boys don't like each other at all, so 'm expecting a fiery fight, and both of these lads will be desperate to beat the others, although Carl Froch has eyes on world ambitions already, and has been touted for future bouts against Joe Calzaghe or Mikkel Kessler. He's rated at #8 by the IBF, so may well end up fighting whoever wins in the fight for that vacant title after Joe C vacated it.
Anyhow, here's the breakdown:
Carl 'The Cobra' Froch (19-0, 15 by KO) :- Since his 11th round knockout of Brian Magee back in May, speculation was rife that the British and Commonwealth champion was going to get a shot at Calzaghe, at least he was talking confidently that it would happen, but the 29-year-old Nottingham lad will have to bide his time if that bout is to happen. Froch tends to drop his guard, but with the venomous rights, like a Cobra attack which earnt him his nickname, Froch has some good shots which will really test out Dodson's chin, and will take a lot out of him.
Tony Dodson (20-3-1, 12 by KO) :- The vital issue in much of the build up is that Dodson is the former holder of the British title, and vacated the title after a series of injuries in 2004 which prevented him from fighting at all that year, where his opponent was due to be...Carl Froch. His claim to be the uncrowned champion is a bit disparaging towards Froch, but after taking 2004 off to recover from the injuries, Dodson is undefeated, and there is certainly no love lost between him and his opponent, after Froch was less than courteous when Dodson was plagued by injuries. Still only 26, and very slightly shorter than Froch this looks like being a good matchup, and expect fireworks, but don't come running to me if there are none. ;)
My prediction would be Froch by KO in middle rounds, his opponents have been a better caliber than Dodson's, and I think as a fighter he controls the ring a little more, but Dodson will have a real will to win here, and won't be easy at all.

Re: RBR Carl Froch v Tony Dodson - BBBofC Super Middleweight belt
I'd nearly forgotten how devastating that uppercut that put down Magee was, whatever it is, Dodson is going to need an awfully good chin to go the distance if he isn't going to kayo Froch himself.

Tony looks strong but has been stopped a couple of times already

Those guys weren't Brits though, and since then he is undefeated since he actually won the title which Froch now holds. He could cause Froch some trouble. He looks pretty confident and calm coming into the ring. Doesn't look too fired up, seems to have got all the trash talking out of his mind. Coming into the ring to a classic rap choon, Black Rob - Whoa!

Re: RBR Carl Froch v Tony Dodson - BBBofC Super Middleweight belt
Froch looking confident, coming in to the ring to Queen's "We will rock you". You can tell the difference in their music taste reflects to differences between them as people and fighters. Now let's get it on, the KO seems an almost certainty in this one.

Re: RBR Carl Froch v Tony Dodson - BBBofC Super Middleweight belt
Round 1:
Firm jabs from Dodson. Hook from Dodson connects. Dodson swinging a lot and coming forward, but Froch catches him on the counter. Good jab by Dodson, he drops his own gumshield in the process. Pretty cagey actually, Froch wanting Dodson to come forward. Froch catches Dodson with an uppercut in the clinch, not too firm though.
Cagey round, but Dodson does well enough to take it. Froch seems confident though.
10-9 Dodson

Re: RBR Carl Froch v Tony Dodson - BBBofC Super Middleweight belt
Round 2:
Froch jab makes Dodson stumble off balance. Good jab straight right combo from Dodson, putting Froch on the ropes. Good right uppercut from Dodson. Froch not looking too comfortable. Straight right connects from Froch, followed by a hook caught on the gloves. Goood jab rocks Dodson's head back.
I'd say this one's tied, a bit of chat as they return to the corners. Dodson connected more, but Froch has the power IMO.
20-19 to Dodson so far.

Re: RBR Carl Froch v Tony Dodson - BBBofC Super Middleweight belt
I think Froch needs to push back.... And impose his power over Dodsons
-
Re: RBR Carl Froch v Tony Dodson - BBBofC Super Middleweight belt
Round 3:
Froch catching Dodson on the counter with that venomous right early. Froch coming forward a bit more, good left uppercut. Ref has a word about breaking from the clinches. Dodson missing a fair bit, not as accurate as froch. Good jab hook from froch. Looping hooks getting round Dodson's guard, hard jab goes through the gloves. Starting to take control now. Uppercut. A body shot puts Dodson down. He's not getting up. Out in 3, the uppercut did the damage.

Re: RBR Carl Froch v Tony Dodson - BBBofC Super Middleweight belt
Wow!! a body shot from Froch? Thats something new.... :)
Bet Smash was shitting in his seat for the 1st 2 rds... ;D

Re: RBR Carl Froch v Tony Dodson - BBBofC Super Middleweight belt
Very convincing finish by him, though once he upped his workrate then Dodson was dispatched pretty quickly. Froch's trash-talking gets backed up emphatically in the ring. He talks a lot, but that uppercut did the realdamage, and he kneeled down after the body shot. Very impressive by Froch. He does have a very big nose, is one observation.
Two minutes and bit of round three....saw this one ended really early. My prediction of 5 rounds seems a little generous to Dodson, I thought belief and desire might have taken him further.
At least the bad blood seems a little cooled now, a hug and a few words shared by them, and Froch raises Dodson's hand for some applause.

If they interview him, please post his comments... :)

Re: RBR Carl Froch v Tony Dodson - BBBofC Super Middleweight belt
Naturally...
Froch said: "It was ver satisfyting. I wanted a few more rounds and to put a fwe more shots together. I been working hard in the gym, doing a lot of sparring and working on my defence. He turned up in great shape, he'd been working hard, but it shows how good I am. That sweet left hook to the body was right on the button.
"I'm at #3 with the WBC so maybe an International fight early in the new year."
Mick Hennessy reckons Froch will face Lucian Bute early in the new year as a WBC eliminator, and face the winner of Kessler v Librado Andrade, who he says are fighting in March. There was also a somewhat weary call-out of Calzaghe, which they seem to think is par for the course now.

Re: RBR Carl Froch v Tony Dodson - BBBofC Super Middleweight belt
Billy corcoran v Sean Hughes. Corcoran goes down two weight for this one. Suepr Bantamweight, having previously operated at Super Featherweight. Corcoran working hard. Right hook by Hughes floored Corcoran in the first. Jabs working well for the souhpaw Hughes. Both working well.
-
Re: RBR Carl Froch v Tony Dodson - BBBofC Super Middleweight belt
CC's dished out. Corcoran getting caught time and again. He might have a bit more power, but Hughes can't miss. Corcoran goes to the body. Corcoran's guard is off, and even though his shots are good, he needs to up it and catch Hughes more than he's getting hit. Straightforward really. :p Hughes has challenged and lost in 3 british title bouts, but is doing well, even though he's a big underdog. Corcoran looking to tire Hughes out with body shots. Hughes faking Corcoran into lots of shots hitting the gloves. Big right fromCorcoran rocks Hughes. Corcoran's biggest fight came in a big fight against Carl Johanneson fro the British Super Feather belt, which he lost in 4, but on the records he should be much better than this fella. Coming better in rd3.

Nice... 8)
Though to be honest I don't think Kess-Andrade will go through....

Re: RBR Carl Froch v Tony Dodson - BBBofC Super Middleweight belt
Corcoran puts Hughes on his knees with a good right cross in rd4. Hughes also cut over the right eye. Rd 5. Good rights from Corcoran knocking him back. Hughes coming back. Good jab knocks Corcoran's head back, but he throws a good right himself. Corcoran looking to finish him, but Hughes scoring the points. Good right rocks Corcoran. Two great rights stun Corcoran towards the end of the round. Hughes might be edging this one with three rounds to go.
-
Re: RBR Carl Froch v Tony Dodson - BBBofC Super Middleweight belt
Rd6. Can't believe Corcoran is not able to put this guy away, he was reputed to be oe of the best around, but doesn't look good at this weight anyway. The stances are combining for an exciting fight anyway. Hughes is fancying this one, throwing jabs and straight shots, while Corcoran looking for the bigger wider shots. Good right connects hard with Hughes' nose. Bleeding stopped for now. Corcoran working harder., looking better into the stretch. Scheduled to go 8. Good left byHughes to finish. Tied round, but I reckon he's still edging it by a round or two. Rd7. Hughes jabbing and hooks connecting. Corcoran looking to bully Hughes back, body shots and hooks. Good right hook shakes Hughes up. Jab by Corcoran rocks Hughes back, he looks to tie up. Great straights and jabs from Hughes, Corcoran has nothing to throw back. Corcoran tries to throw something back but fails. Hughes may have punched himself out, Corcoran slips. Both look exhausted. Corcoran for losing the weight, and Hughes after his last fight two weeks ago. Hughes jabs and straights are winning this fight. Corcoran has to look for the kayo, but I don't see it happening. Corcoran still can't find any big shots. Good right rocks back Hughes' head. Four in a row from Corcoran, and Lee Cook steps in. That is daylight robbery!!!! Hughes stands and poses grim-faced, but Corcoran is slumped in his corner. That ref should be ashamed of himself, that was Hughes' biggest win of his career, and that stupid ref spoiled it for him.
-
Re: RBR Carl Froch v Tony Dodson - BBBofC Super Middleweight belt
Hughes and trainer Michael Marsden believe he was robbed, Marsden said: "There's no point complaining about it, we'll just get on with our work." Corcoran has been handed the flukiest decision i seen in a while, and his face looked much more torn up in the post-fight interviews. History will say a stoppage, but it was an absolute disgrace! The ref saved Corcoran from a defeat which would have really damaged Corcoran's rep. Hope that bung paid for his bus fare home.
Anyhow, I'm out and off to the TV to drink more and watch cricket all night. Come on England!

Dude, if I'm honest, doingan RBR lets me analyse a fight byeach round rather than looking at a thing as a whole, which makes me understand the way that a judge brings forward his views.

Re: RBR Carl Froch v Tony Dodson - BBBofC Super Middleweight belt
Cocoran/Hughes is easily my UK fight of the year O0
"i've got a harder face than you" type of affair.
And well done Froch.
The right uppercut done the damage ;)

Feck me man, how can you possibly see that as a fight of the year. Technically it wasn't great and Hughes got hit over the head with a stick and had his wallet and mobile nicked by the ref.
