De La Hoya: Marquez is the best at 130!

Oscar De La Hoya: “It was a tough fight, but I believe today, you all had an opportunity to see the best fighter at 130 pounds, Juan Manuel Marquez, who is a boxer, a fighter that has the fortitude, the intelligence and the quickness … and there are no easy opponents. I believe the experience, power and strength were demonstrated tonight by Marquez.

“Any other fighter that steps in the ring with Jimrex Jaca, will lose to Jaca. Jaca is a strong fighter with the an amazing ability to take punches, but tonight, Juan Manuel Marquez was superior and, for that reason, in my opinion, he is the best at 130.

“When he fought Manny Pacquiao, Manuel got up from three knockdowns and got a draw decision and that shows you what kind of fighter he is. Jimrex Jaca is no pushover and Juan Manuel knew it. Obviously, the headbutts were a big factor as it did affect a bit. But he wanted to continue on through the fight and demonstrate to the people that he is a real champion.

“It really is a statement to everyone at 130 pounds that Juan Manuel is right here even though he is the champion at 126, but he is willing to move up to 130 and whatever it takes to make the big fights around those weight divisions, 126 or 130. He is willing to face anyone.

“It is early still but we will sit down and talk with team Marquez about the big fights that we want to see, which are Barrera, Pacquiao and Jesus Chavez, who wants to come down to the 130 pound division. There is a lot of options for Juan Manuel, and I think it is time to get him the big fights and demonstrate to the public who is the best at 130.”

Any time I would hurt him, the referee would come in and intervene so he could recover, there were so many things that occurred, but yet it was a big learning experience for me. Because now I know that if you travel to their home countries in Indonesia, people would tell me, ‘You have to knock them out to win or even hit them with the spit bucket, because you won't get a decision.’ And I found out it was true.”

Oscar De La Hoya about a match up with Chris John here in the States: “Obviously it's a big possibility. Again we have to sit down with Juan Manuel's team and decide who is going to be next, where and why. That's a fight that Juan Manuel wants to prove to the people that he can be champion and I think that's a fight that a lot of people want to see. We will have to wait and see because he wants to fight Manny Pacquiao, he wants to fight Barrera and Jesus Chavez so we will have to wait and see.”

Oscar De La Hoya on signing Jaca to a three-fight contract: “We will keep Jaca busy. Tonight, he demonstrated that he has a tremendous, tremendous heart and a bright future. He is only 23 years old and he has a lot to learn but yet he is already ahead of the game. It's going to be fun promoting him and you know we will have to go back to the drawing board and see who he is going to fight next.”

Was shocked to see Oscar saying JMM is the best at 130 considering how close he is to Barrera, unless it is a promo stunt:D

he'll be the best at 130 as soon a he decides to move up and fight PAC again.

I don't know about statement ODLH, thats a bit too much espcially stating that 130 he hasn't fought there once his whole career has been at 126... Please excuse him :-\

I'd say it a good sign that Oscar is in a poor legal position, in his bout for Manny with Arum.

Obviously, Oscar is saying this to promote Marquez and have somebody that will be equal in supremacy to Pacquaio.... at least, in his opinion. Jimrex is good but way far compared to Pacquaio and Barrera.

Thats exactly what a good promoter would say in that postition, it won't upset Barrera when JJM hasn't even fought at 130 yet.

Aside from the obvious a fight with PAC and or MAB, what would be a good set up fight at 130 for JMM?

I would like to think that JMM would take a warm up fight at 130 before getting in the ring with any of them...

That being said maybe Humberto Soto? Or Vicente Mosquera? Maybe even Alex Arthur?

Anyway!! I was just looking at his options, I mean he could always just jump right in there at 130 and take on either...

Marquez looked strong and had good hand speed last night but he looked slow. What people are forgetting is that Manny isn't the same fighter that fought Marquez in the first fight. Manny is so multi-dimensional now that I don't really see Marquez posing that much of a threat. If he tries to outslug Manny he'll be in for a rude awakening and I think he's too slow now to outbox Manny. Manny should run the table at 130 until the effects of all these hard fights take their toll on him.

I'll answer this bro although. In the first fight with JMM,wether any Pac fans like it or not,Pac was schooled and looked crude and amatuerish. Since then,he has added a slightly better jab,uses the right hand far more,for hooking and countering and uses better foot movement with more angles. He also goes to the body effectively,and I witnessed these things against Velazquez,Larios and Morales twice.

i agree with EVERYTHING u just stated bro and sitting RINGSIDE for the grand finale ill add he has some balance issues as well, but thats why i LOVE HIM man hes all over the place and so unorthodox, where others might fall just by being so unbalanced he makes it look like he meant to do that hahaha. its kinda hard to describe wish u were sitting up close like i was then u know more what im talking about.

The only thing I will say is that Manny bring off balance after throwing his combinations would be in JMM's advantage,as a natural counter puncher and second,JMM hits harder,with more snap than EM so he could punish Pac for his mistakes although if the fight was to be made,even though I'd be rooting for JMM like a madman,I'd think Manny would be the favourite.
