so yeh i try to do it all with the strait right.. lol inc lean with the shoulder.
Peace
The secret of a good right hand is the mechanics of the left shoulder
tell us more and get yerself a cc.
trick question
Simple reallythe right shoulder cant move unless the left one does. theright cross is generated of the back foot plus the left stabalises the right shoulder and gives it direction while stabalising the weight on the back foot to generate the power plus giving head the stability it reqiures through the correct posture. Stopping you leaning into whatevers coming in your direction, and it wont hurt as much if it lands. Also your eyes see everthing so you have a better chance of not getting hit which is what its all about, got it
So the faster the left shoulder goes back the faster the right goes forward and the following hook will improve because of the body mechanics
I promised you a cc and I kept my word.
So are you saying DON'T lean with your upper body at all? That's fine in theory but in practise it seems everyone leans forward to some extent.
Great fighters dont they stay on the back to a man. people say fighters are front foot fighters bacause they go forward which is bollocks its the back foot which takes you forward its the front foot that takes you back there are variations to the theme. But every movement should start from good balance if it doesnt its wrong and theres no progression.
The reason people lean is because they are reaching with their shots and trying to make them longer, cant happen you cant make your shot any longer from your chin so that moves forward to your not in balance of your back foot of balance theres trouble ahead then theres that waiting moment, Oh Fuck
so keep the body straight up and down... no lean forwards, no lean backwards... ?
scrap, I think you're being too strict. The same can be said about the jab. You can throw it with just the shoulder rotation. You can throw it and lean/twist from the waist. I've just gained 7-8" on my reach. That is without any hip/leg being involved. Both are correct but depending on the opponent e.g if they're in your face you shorten your punches or step back to give yourself room.
I think leaning a little bit is natural, but the rotation is key. Leaning too much puts you off balance. One trainer at my gym insists on keeping your weight back, kind of like a hitter in baseball (but not quite to that extent.) I do find that I'm more comfortable doing med ball slams when I take shorter strides, keep my stance narrower, and keep myself from leaning.
Missy how do you get that extra 6" to8" explain
she comes over to my place.. if ya know what I mean. :boobs2: :hubbahubba:
No thats why Im asking, if you throw a correct jab shoulder to chin you cant biomechanicly make it longer.
we're talking about the cross, which can be extended by leaning into it at the waist. But is it worth it?
It feels natural to lean forwards an inch or two but my trainer says keep upright.
Always about pulling the left back rather than throwing the right forwards when I throw a right hand, I suppose it's probably natural to lean forwards because it's a cheap way of quickly getting extra power, I assume being upright is harder to learn but in the end will generate more power and be a quicker shot?
Its the same with the right cross if the head goes past the front foot and you get countered its twice the impact. Try running into a brick wall head first, you wouldntbut your doing the same thing. A case in point indistructable best chin of all time 20" kneck but when he started leaning in with his shots and not moving the back foot it was a different story Mike Tyson. When the legs stop moving, you get moved and it hurts. one day it happens to everybody, while youve got balance it can be prevented when you havent you cant that goes for everybody in history.
Adam youve got a good coach, if you dont work at the basic skills youve no chance doing the intricate things correct, natural talent will deminish quickly. If you can do 100 metres in 10 secs with your finger up your arse, try taking it out you might do it in 9 / 8 secs theres a good chance you will.
So what your saying basically is dont lean, stay balanced, stay on the back foot and its better than leaning forward?
Thats it Jamio case study JJ chavez probably the best attacking fighter Ive seen in the last 30 yrs di9dnt lean until the last couple of years good at walking a man down fast back foot hard to hit, it was only at the end he got caught when the legs had lost it. Dela Hoya is a bit front footed but his good eye is his front eye hes a converted southpaw meaning hes left handed and his front foot works accordingly. But show him a left hook before the right and youll hit him all day long and he struggles moving right
cc Scrap good analogy
Adam, do you ever do the med ball slams I advocate so much? If you do, you'll notice that ronically you generate little extra power by leaning, if any at all. Like you said though, a slight lean is natural but it is not required for power. If that were true then baseball players would be hitting off their front foot. Try dragging your back foot forward on the one-two and actually putting a very slight bit extra weight on the back foot. This will ensure good balance.Quote:

my point was not so much on the issue of power but of making contact with the target and the point about legs is correct. Let's not forget if you do lean over with a cross it can be a long way back to your centre and be balanced.
Scrap, in terms of the jab try it sitting on a chair. take the legs out of it for the moment. Just make a fist and push it out straight. Now do the same thing but turn your shoulder/chest with it.
Try sitting on a fit ball and doing it or get some hand pads put them round your knees and shadow box on your knees through isolating the feet you get good upper body movement in balance.
I put a stop to any leaning with the straight punches (working the body is another story). There is something that is difficult for me to describe to the fighters until they have picked it up. It's an extra reach that comes with a couple years of punching. It comes from the shoulder and allows the fighter to reach out atleast an inch more. You can see it when they're on the pads. When they find it, it's a small milestone.

Try and explain it, Im all ears.

cc's to you both. Something's not quite right and it's getting worse. ;D
shh! here he comes.
You motherfuckers aren't alking about me are you? I've gone through guys twice all your sizes just to GET to a fight. Now where's me specs.
cc ;D
My gradmother was scottish she taught me well
I dont know how this post above got here, but it did magic how did you do that Adam thats clever.
There's only one explanation - quantum mechanics.
Like fencing same thing ,overcommitment or lean is your worst enemy.
If you do lean continue the movment and go around from the hips or have your footwork taking you out of that trouble.
I just did a search and managed to dig this up.
I think I've just been working on this. I think one of the main reasons I have had trouble with my cross is probably over-reaching with the jab.
I mean I've come up with many theories over the last year or so but this is the latest one. ;D
I'm also thinking it's a bit of a psychological thing. i often spar larger people and try to make myself taller I think just out of instinct similarly to the way a lot of animals will 'puff themselves up' when confronted.
As a consequence I come up on my toes too much especially towards the end of the extension of my punches and over reach.
I'm thinking it's all leading to other little mistakes. It makes me raise my chin and drop my hands a little (made worse by the higher altitude of my head).
I raise up on my rear foot more than my front which i think cause my right cross to drift to the left a little at the end.
I sometimes find it very difficult move after throwing punches when I have over-extended since my weight is grounded in the wrong place - head past my foot i think.
I cross my feet sometimes (as if walking a step) since my head leads the way and I need to bring the rear foot up to rebalance when my weight has passed over my front foot too far to move that first.
OK so all those problems are my chickens, the egg is over-reaching and letting my chin and head come forward and I'm thinking the embryo is psychologically trying to size myself up and probably poor computer work posture etc.
So best drills / exercises etc to fix all this would be?
