Maccarinelli challenge to Haye
Enzo Maccarinelli has urged David Haye to stop messing around with "weak" opponents and face a real fighter.
Londoner Haye became the WBC's number one contender for O'Neil Bell's world titles when he overcame severe cuts to knock out Giacobbe Fragomeni in the ninth round of their European title fight earlier this month.
But Maccarinelli, in training for a March 3 Millennium Stadium tilt against an unnamed opponent, believes Hayes' ascent is down to some clever management and weak opponents.
He said: "His record (18 wins and one loss), I think, has been padded out a bit by fights against weaker fighters.

Would be close.
I think Haye is more naturaly talented, but i think Enzo has more power and a better chin. with Hayes defense (if uc an call it that) i think Enzo could stop him

I agree I would love to see this fight, but I disagree, with the outcome. Enzo would pick Haye apart all night,
as long as he can keep from getting caught flush, Enzo all the way.
Re: Maccarinelli challenge to Haye
HOLD UP ;D
Who exactly has ever tested Enzo's beard?
Haye took some heavy shots 2 weeks ago and although he lost to Thompson, he did (for a while) take some also and came back fighting.
Enzo may prove me wrong but he's yet to be in places that Haye has so far.
Enzo did however have a look of pure desire written all across his face as he squared off against Hobson a month ago.
Will be a belter im sure 8)
Bring it on i say....battle of the Franks? ;)
Re: Maccarinelli challenge to Haye
Haye has got Bell next, so he aint gunan risk lossing to enzo and mess his shot up at bell. You will most likely see the winner of Bell/haye V Maca aslong as Maca keeps on impressing...
Quite old, taken from the BBc site a month or so ago..

Bell welcomes Macca's challenge
WBA and WBC cruiserweight champion O'Neil Bell says he would relish a fight with WBO king Enzo Maccarinelli.
Swansea's Maccarinelli targeted the Jamaican - acknowledged as number one at 200lbs - after his first title defence against Mark Hobson this month.
"I've emailed his people, I believe it could happen next year," said Bell.
"Enzo's a courageous man, no-one else in the division is willing to fight me. I respect a man who has just won his championship calling out the best."
Jamaican Bell, 31, has a record of 26-1-1 (24 KOs), his only loss coming in his second fight against Mohamed Benguesmia back in 1998.
He drew against Ernest Mateen in 2002, but has a 100% record since, stopping Jean-Marc Mormeck in January this year to become the division's undisputed number one.
"I want to fight the best out there," Bell told BBC Radio Wales' The Back Page programme.
"Although I have the belts I've really got nothing to lose - I've got the world to gain as I'm still trying to make my impression on the wider boxing audience.
"Both Enzo and myself are in a win-win situation. I'd fight wherever there was the most money to be made, whether that was in the UK or the US."
Big-punching Maccarinelli, 26, has a record that stands at 25-1 (19 KOs).
He is set to fight on an expected Joe Calzaghe undercard in Cardiff in February, and is also keen to fight in the States after a trip across the Atlantic last week.
"I've not seen Enzo fight, but friends have and I'm getting hold of tapes," said Bell.
"I'm a straightforward guy and I manage myself. A bout in February or March sounds fine to me."
Maccarinelli said: "I'm so confident I'd take on all-comers. I'm the world's number two cruiserweight and Bell is number one so he'd be ideal.
"Victory and unifying the division would be perfect and a great fight.
"He's lost once like me and is as hard as nails. Bell likes to fight, but he hasn't got my power."
Re: Maccarinelli challenge to Haye
Enzo was on about fighting the winner and the prospect of a Haye matchup though. They'd both do well to steer well clear of each other for the next fews years though (Career wise) i think because Haye can't afford a defeat by a percieved Domestic fighter.
Where would he go from there?

MACCARINELLI......
WBO world cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli has urged David Haye to stop messing around with "weak" opponents and face a real fighter.
"He hasn't been in the ring with someone like me, despite Frank Warren trying to make the fight.
"Fair play, he has done well for himself and climbed the rankings, but I think he has avoided most of the good names."
Maccarinelli was, however, impressed by Haye's determination in seeing off Fragomeni and would relish the chance to face the winner of his clash with Jamaican Bell in a unification bout.
He added: "He proved he had heart and could take a punch, which he needed to prove, but he didn't have much coming at him to be fair. I didn't really expect him to lose that one to be honest.
"But he fought a great fight, and those who said he had stamina problems were proved wrong.
"I don't care who they put in front of me. I just want to fight.
"If it's Bell then great, I believe we are the two best in the world in this division.
"And if it's Haye, then fantastic. He is a good fighter, he's British, and we would be fighting for a unified title.
"Either way, if I could get in the ring with either of them, it would be a great fight for the public and a good payday.
"I really don't think either of them could cope with my power.
"But there's a lot of politics in boxing; the fight might seem logical, but it takes a lot of work to make it happen."
What was Enzo like after Scott clumped him Saddo?
How did he react?
Re: Maccarinelli challenge to Haye
Enzo will win this one! he throws a lot more than haye imo! he is better and technically better! he will get that right hand on hayes chin and timber down he will go like Dominguez did! trust me 8)

cant remember what round it was as it was alllooooong time ago just remember the sky team hyping him up and bang got hit and went down... cant remember if it was a flash KO or not but did remember thinking at the time this guy is chinny... but to be honest i expected him to lose long before now and he aint and you have to respect his power also... but i think against haye it will be too much for him to take the power.
got to remember Haye's first loss was because he didnt pace himself and went all out for the KO and being a bit green at the time Thomson was an ex world champ with power and it was only hayes 10th fight or somthing like that and he did take alot of clean shots before he went down if i remember right ;)
Re: Maccarinelli challenge to Haye
Gotta side Haye on this one, I just think in that ring Haye shows MORE heart and desire....
Espcially as of late, when hes in that ring hes there to do his job...

Certainly did and it was more exhaustion than anything.
Never knew that of Enzo and to be fair Hobson nearly done him in their first fight.
He looked Chinny at times then.
I think the Fragomeni fight is exactly what Haye needed
Re: Maccarinelli challenge to Haye
Im backing Haye, i prefer him as a boxer and think he could stop Enzo quite late on.
P.S. Am i the only one who noticed Enzo has a bit of flab going on in his last fight?
Re: Maccarinelli challenge to Haye
Not really a fan of either fighter. Macca is big and strong but has only slightly more boxing ability than Joey Spina.
Haye is skilful enough but I still don't think he could stand up to a real strong fighter. Showed heart in winning his last fight after looking to be on his way to being stopped but honestly he shouldn't have struggled like that in the first place.
I still reckon Calzaghe could move up and beat Enzo, despite the size difference. Hopkins would box rings around them both.
Re: Maccarinelli challenge to Haye
I like Enzo but slagging off Hayes comp compared to his own is ridiculous.
Reckon Haye sums it up here ;)
"I'm only bothering with real titles and real fights," continued Haye. "Guys like Ricky Hatton and Joe Calzaghe have done a marvellous job representing Britain on the world stage, and I'm looking to follow suit. I don't want to call myself a 'world champion' by picking up some throwaway vacant title. I want to be the only recognised champion by beating the best man in the division. That's all that matters to me."

Re: Maccarinelli challenge to Haye
I hope this doesn't turn out to be another Hatton - Witter drama.
Haye would knock him out in style anyway.
