Peter Manfredo Lacks the X-Factor
by Terry Dooley
Nov 30th 2006
Two fights on from the seemingly false, or overcast by poor matchmaking, dawn of the Jeff Lacy win even Joe Calzaghe's biggest fans must be wondering why this elite-level fighter is now taking on the runner-up from boxings first reality TV programme ‘The Contender' as Joe clashes with Peter Manfredo Junior next March.
Rumours abound that Joe lined-up a fight with Darius from the X-Factor yet the cry of “Hit me baby one more time” from Darius would merely result in Joe hitting him a thousand times in a one-sided walkover unpalatable to ITV viewers.

Very funny reading and true, even the brit`s think Calzaghe is a joke :o :o
Re: Peter Manfredo Lacks the X-Factor
This fight is a complete Joke. I cannot even believe the board are sanctioning it. Calzaghe has wasted the most golden year of his life. I'm british and its all very embarassing. If he has to beat up a reality tv star he might as wel go for the weird one from eaton road.

I think Calzaghe has lost a lot of his fans quite recently
Re: Peter Manfredo Lacks the X-Factor
Yup, Manfredo to knock the smile of Calzaghe's face. Teach him to always look for the easy option.
Re: Peter Manfredo Lacks the X-Factor
Well there you go you're now tuning in to watch Calzaghe get beat
As long as people watch
doesn't matter who he fights ;)

You have to be something awful to start off with three str8 draws.
Re: Peter Manfredo Lacks the X-Factor
I think Calzaghe is just trying to appeal more to Americans. remember before Lacy not many casual boxing fans even knew who he was.....so now he is fighting an American fighter who was on TV and has many American fans. Makes sence to me why he took the fight. The man went almost 10 years as champ and all those years was virtually unknown to the US fans. Why not fight another over hyped fighter and then go after the big dogs fo a little more $$
Re: Peter Manfredo Lacks the X-Factor
come march, he's gonna lack his head as well. this is definitely a mismatch but u know what? i will definitely be watching. as long as i dont have to pay 50 bucks for it, im always down to watch boxing. plus it will be funny to see what "the contender-reality-show-fighter" as everyone is callin him can do against a real bad ass undefeated world champ. fuck what an upset it would be if manfredo can pull it off. maybe joe calzaghe wont take him seriously.
Re: Peter Manfredo Lacks the X-Factor
Man the hate for Joe is nothing nice.
Soon you people will be like Violent D and changing Joe's name to Joke Calzaghe ;D
I like Joe Calzaghe and I think this will be a funny fight. Just think of this fight as a charitable donation wich should help both fighters in the pocket book Dept. I do however expect Joe to fight Kessler after this if not :'( people will become more and more critical of him. Stop phuking around Joe and give the people what they want. The fans did not want this fight.

I keep telling you guys this: Manfredo is NOT a household name by ANY strech of the imagination. How many people in the USA watched the 1st season "Contender"? Maybe a mil or so an episode. So approx a million people ,in a country of 300 million, have even heard or seen this guy. And out of that how many will bother to watch? 250,000? (at best). So I ask you folks across the pond: how many people just in europe would PAY to watch Joe vs Kess? Id bet a million from Denmark alone. UK? 2-3 million? Then the gate in either country? Seems to me it would be one of the biggest fights ever in the history of boxing in europe. Shame Joe has a fukin fool for a promoter...

Joe has only himself and his promoter to blame for that thou. He has had 10 YEARS to be known in the US and he hasnt made the effort. No he sees an opportunity for an easy fight with a "name" US fighter that he feels will get him better known by the US public. They had 10 YEARS to get him known in the US, it is their own dumbass faults!!!

The Contender season I on NBC brought in about 6 to 8 million viewers a week and the final drew about 12 to 13 million people who watched. Peter Manfredo Jr is more famous than many regulars fighters you and I might know.
Peter Manfredo vs Pemberton filled in 10 thousand seats while his fight vs Spina only filled 5 thousand seats.
Baldomir/Mayweather only had 9 thousand seats filled.
I say Peter is known by many.
Even though he is going to get the shiet beat out of him, worse than Lacy? Could it get any worse? LOL
Re: Peter Manfredo Lacks the X-Factor
I dont consider this fight much more than an exhibition for Joe. Joe blew his first introduction to the American fan base with a lackluster performance against Bika.
Danny G, this is where we disagree. This fight is a primer for a Calzaghe/Taylor bout. Across the big pond Calzaghe/Kessler is as big as its gonna get. 3 mil for Joe.
However, if Joe speedbags Manfredo, and he should, the casual american fan will drool over a Calzaghe/Taylor match up.
Joe at...what... 34-35... is looking to cash in. More scratch in his pocket fighting Taylor, or dare I say Hopkins.

Ah! I see your point. Yes Taylor or Hopkins fight is more down our alley here. Screw Kessler :)

Mwuuuhahahaha!
If Kessler is smart, he'll continue to chill, and claim to be ducked. In the meantime he can knock off a tomato can or two, and claim he is the man. Honestly, his opponents thus far could create a marinara sauce to feed the third world.
Hopkins, I want out. His decline in firepower over the years is evident. Only the blind wont recognize it. All they see is belts and press, and belts dont mean shat.
A prime Hopkins would of dismantled Taylor. Time for Bernard to stick to promotin'.
My ideal scenario, is for Taylor to whip calzaghe. Time to go Joe. You like Jones pissed away your prime fighting cab drivers.
Let the young lions fight for the undisputed title.
Taylor/Kessler....... the real super fight at 168 ;D

Those fights were in Manfredo's hometown of Providence, Rhode Island. Outside of there he wont draw those numbers.
Re: Peter Manfredo Lacks the X-Factor
Here are the bookies take on the fight..:
http://www.stanjames.com/betslip/index.asp
Calzaghe is a 33/1 favorite
In other words.. the money are saying that this is a totally ridiculous bastard of a fight that should never have been made and is a complete waste of everyone's time because there is no question who the winner will be..
Re: Peter Manfredo Lacks the X-Factor
manfredo was not even the best boxer on that crappy contender show so what the phark is this no hoper doing in this fight.

Don't be silly, numb nuts
It matters to ME
I'd love to see Calzaghe beat the shit out of your boy, but the point is, whether it's your boy or the reality TV star, I, like everyone else bitching and moaning about the opponent will still tune in to watch...well, in your case you'll have to make do with the WRBR ;)
