Discuss

Re: Why don't Mexican/Latino boxers ever seem to get punch drunk...?
I guess you never seen Bobby Chacon after he retired.
-
Re: Why don't Mexican/Latino boxers ever seem to get punch drunk...?
Cool the thread is alive ;D
What i mean is on the whole these fighters are born toe to toe merchants who love to fight and most of the greats,Duran,Chavez etc have had war after war brutal fights and just seem to soak it up.
-
Re: Why don't Mexican/Latino boxers ever seem to get punch drunk...?
I could be wrong but I think its the denseity of their skulls... I mean I was in Mexico a year ago and I couldn't believe the size of most of their skulls...Maybe its a coincidence, I dont make these remarks as a racial typecast or a dig but its just a personal observation with no real scientific evidence...
But if there brain is protected more than its only reasonble to conclude that the blunt trauma would have minimal effect.... ???
-
Re: Why don't Mexican/Latino boxers ever seem to get punch drunk...?
Maybe, also you rarely see these type of fighters slurring their words in interviews etc.
Always seem mentally sound and on the ball.
I was always of the thinking that Negro/Black bones/skin were more dense

Re: Why don't Mexican/Latino boxers ever seem to get punch drunk...?
Interesting but for one, Roberto Duran is not Mexican. He is Panameño. I met a dude from Panama who faught Duran and I will add that this dude was out there but I guess it was because he was punch drunk. I felt sorry for him. He was very proud about the fact that he lost to Duran lol and had the paper clippings in his wallet to prove it.
Also note that the Mexican fighters turn pro very early most way before they are 18. Laws are different from those of the United States.
I can not call it but, it's the things that make you go ..
hmmmmmm?

The title reads Mexican/Latino...
Though Duran is not Mexican he is a Latino.

I am Latino and live in Miami which is a melting pot of latin people, I have fought three Mexicans in my life (street fights) and nobody has a bigger or harder head then those bloody bastards, I guess it's that Aztec blood in them.

Randomly speaking of Aztec, the civilization has always intrigued me and I am looking forward to that Mel Gibson movie "Apocalypto" which deals with the end of the Aztec civilization. Looks baddass! Just saw a preview in a theater today. Back to the topic everyone ;)

Mel has upset me lately with all his controversial actions but I think I will see the movie as well (dvd) but it looks great, I guess we will have too read the movie because them speaking english will be to unrealistic.

Re: Why don't Mexican/Latino boxers ever seem to get punch drunk...?
Is the answer to this question not that mexicans/latinos tend to be in the lower weight, so puching power is significantly lower. It seems to be the heavies who get most affected by punch-drunkenness, although the little guys obviously face the dangers of weight draining/dehydration...
-
Re: Why don't Mexican/Latino boxers ever seem to get punch drunk...?
Wilfredo Benitez is punch drunk(Dementia pugilistica)

Re: Why don't Mexican/Latino boxers ever seem to get punch drunk...?
I have the TYSON vs. MATHIS jr fight program and theres a picture of Chavez, Don King and Tyson standing in front of the MGM Casino, and JCC is the shortest one but his Head is like 3 times as big as Tyson and King's. His head is HUGE!!

Re: Why don't Mexican/Latino boxers ever seem to get punch drunk...?
Interesting thread Chavez and Duran didnt get hit to much.I dont think the statement on heads is true. but Id be interested in whats the altitude they generally live at that could have something of a bearing

Believe it or not he has them all speaking the Aztec dialect, just like he had them speaking Latin for Passion of the Christ...promises to be good stuff.

No its all good bro... Believe it or not I dont really hold grudges.. Like I posted I find Danny amusing for the most part since he brings creativity and thats all good... The only thing that prompted me too start the thread I did was because I thought the rivalry was done and he named me in a post that he was argueing with PFP and I had nothing to do with it, and then made a false statement... Thats all, but I believe in a little healthy competition as long as it dosent turn degrading..... Danny is fine by me

Re: Why don't Mexican/Latino boxers ever seem to get punch drunk...?
Its because Mexicans tend to fight below the weight of 154 whereas blacks and whites are gentectally larger men that rarely fight below 160. I mean the human head size doesnt different much from height to height so of course a smaller man would appear to have a larger head because its bigger PORPORTIONALLY.
You compare getting punched by guys like Tyson, Lewis, Klitschko, or Briggs to being punched by Chavez, Barrera, Morales, or even Duran the bigger guys would cause much larger brain damage.
Seriously the Heavyweights honestly average 100lbs more than the Mexican fighters. I can easily see why they get punch drunk more often.

When i was still in school i did an English project on the dangers of boxing and it's fact that the lighter fighters who have to dehydrate themselves and litteraly starve themselves to get down to the weight are more prone to Brain damage due to lack of fluids surrounding the brain.

No its not, they are hydrated come fight night.
What I said was true, bigger men (non Latino) cause more damge with bigger punches.

Re: Why don't Mexican/Latino boxers ever seem to get punch drunk...?
You can't honestly say that Morales for instance was not gaunt, withdrawn and generally looking ill at the weigh in for the first Pac fight.
He looked terrible ;)
I got that info straight from the BBBC in 1989.

Re: Why don't Mexican/Latino boxers ever seem to get punch drunk...?
Something that might be of interest On extreme dehydration it takes 4 days to completely hydrate and that applys to whoever and wherever youre from

Regardless there are black and white fighters that kill themselves at Cruiserweight to make weight too. Aswell as the smaller black and white fighters who make weight at lower weights, they dont get punch drunk either. Its because smaller weight guys dont punch as hard.
