clottey ;)
First of all Sal I haven't watched the fight. But from the phone calls I have gotten that if Marg had been hurt then the outcome would of have for sure been opposite. IF IF IF
Injuries are part of a boxer, and the boxer who fights through it or doesn't get injured is superior to those who do.
I;m not taking anything away from Clottey but people who say, "Clottey would have won had he not hurt himself..." That statement is inherently against Clottey I think. No one get upset.
I feel bad for Clottey as people are going to avoid him now as he is exposed as beign fast as hell and skilled, while being relatively unknown with no belts to bring to the table.
Those are some good points, injury is apart of the game although unfortunate. But to answer Sal's question it's no reason to believe that Margarito would have won that fight, and it's no reason to believe he would be able to compete with Miguel Cotto, PBF, or even a small Ricky Hatton
If it makes you feel any better I also voted CLottey..... :)Quote:

Those scorecard that was ridiculous was 119-109 for Margarito
I think Clottey would have definitely won, and what was said about fighting through an injury is all the difference in the fight. Clottey seemed to be asking his corner to stop at the end of two or more rounds.
Compare that to Lacy, who had to be asked by his trainer how his arm was doing... that is why I will give a guy like Lacy the benefit of the doubt.
Margarito needs some DRAGO steroids to get his slow ass going again!
10/10 100% so far said that clottey wouldve won
I'm glad Clottey kept fighting that 9th round is candidate for round of the year to me.Quote:

But I voted Clottey
Margarito lost every round until Clottey got hurt. He remained totally open, remained slower than Clottey, and even remained less hard-hitting than Clottey after Clottey got hurt. I have no doubt Clottey would have won had he not gotten injured--probably by KO.
Impossible to say really, its not like its that unusual for Margarito to get better as a bout goes on, he's not the fastest starter, he just gradually comes on.
Did anyone else notice that all of the feature fighters from last night will be off for some extended time because of injuries
Margarito--wrist & cut
Clottey--fingers on both hands
Winky--cut
Quartey--retire!
imo, Quintana needs to take an extended rest from the whooping he took, and
COTTO emerges unscathed...
I would pay to see him against Floyd.
Arum wouldn'tQuote:

my bad, i see what u meant, and you right, that one judge had a serious hard on for margaritoQuote:

I'm sure Gatti breaks his hand often,Cotto hurt his against Paulie etc etc yet these guys still carried on fighting with full heart.
You can say that a guy with more heart would have continued to throw the left more--that's fine. But the point isn't about Clottey as much as it's about Margarito. He was getting dominated until Clottey hurt himself. Maybe Clottey didn't tolerate the injury as well as some would have; but without the injury he would have continued to dominate Margarito. Margarito didn't show anything to convince me otherwise, anyway. Clottey was hitting harder (even after hurting his hand), was literally twice as fast, and had much better defense and timing. If Margarito's next two fights are really going to be Williams and then Cotto--there's no way he retains his alphabet strap.Quote:

I bet they'll rematch after Margarito loses to Williams or Cotto.Quote:

im not making defenses, but ive seen people say that the injury wasnt a factor, and i cant believe someone would look at clottey not throw one punch in the fifth and say that margarito is just a slow starter and turned on in the 5th roundQuote:

They had some pretty good rounds in the fight. :) Great fight night. 8)
I'm going to go out on a limb and say even had Clottey not had hand problems Margarito would still have won the fight. Yes he lost the first four rounds and yes he was getting hit, but that is Margarito's style at the end of the day. Clottey gave a steller performance, especially in the first third of the fight but I felt Margarito was the stronger of the two coming down the stretch.Quote:

Bilbo, you are the man and I know you speak truthfully because you don't really like Tony. Although Clotey landed the more eye catching shots, and had an awesome D,Margarito's bodywork was good although he should have started earlier. There was a round when Tony had him in the corner, round 8 I think and was just laying into Clottey,I thought Tony should have stopped him there. You also correctly pointed out, that Clottey was getting tired towards the end for sure, you could see when he was sitting down on his stall...I think that was the best of Clottey and the not so best of Tony and still I had Margarito winning and another good name on the resume!
:coolclick: to you buddy. Actually I'm warming to Margarito, he has no defense and he's always getting hit but I've never seen him really hurt or get tired.Quote:

I can't believe that only you, me and possibly Gyroki out of all the voters felt Margarito would have won regardless. Come on have some faith in him people.
Personally I think Clottey found it convenient to have the hand injury later on.
clottey
I like Margarito alot and all but daaamn he was slow saturday Clotty was peacing him goodQuote:
