What if Kessler grabs the IBF belt?
How would that change things in the SMW division?
If he does that, he would make himself a bigger attraction to
the big american names (Taylor, Hopkins etc....) than Calzaghe.
IMO it would be like beating Calzaghe without fighting him.
I would like to see what you all think.

Re: What if Kessler grabs the IBF belt?
But would he risk fighting for another belt? his other ones would be in trouble and who would he fight for it? Carl froch imo should get a crack at this crown. In the long run if kessler went for this belt it would bite him in the ass cos he would be asked to fight all the shite people instead of going for the hardknocks ;D

I don't think so. Kessler already has two belts and I'm sure he doesn't wanna pay the sanctioning fees for three. I think he should just defend his titles until he can get a JoeCal unification.

If he was to fight I would guess that Stietglitz cat, who was Joe C's mandatory before he vacated. I don't know much about that guy except he has been sidestepped a lot. And honestly from Kessler's perspective if he can't fight Joe, who is considered the man in the division, he would benefit more from being a 3 Alphabet champ then fighting like say, Froch who would be a huge risk with very little chance of reward.

But Joe won't fight him, he's not eve on Joe's radar.

Exactly. Whatever Mikkel does, there's no point in just hanging around hoping and waiting to get a shot at JC - coz that just seems very unlikely to ever happen.
Don't know about the belts. Would like to see him unify them all, but good point about the fees.
He might also move up sooner than expected.
Seen quotes from Clinton Woods lately suggesting they're in talks with Kessler.

No doubt he would benefit but he would get caught up in unnessaciarry mandatories and that would result in him wanting to keep his title rather than hunting the JC he should imo go for him now! sod the titles bring on JC! JC dont need manfredo for anything except another 'W' Kessler has no1 else to fight either so why dont they fight ???

True dat, CC bro. Of course Kessler would get caught up in the mandatories, but honestly unless he gets a fight with Joe, what else is he going to do? Sooner or later when you have 3 title one of your mandatories will be a super fight, be it Lucian Bute, Carl Froch or Anthony Mundine.

Exactly, sometimes I feel like us boxing fans are never satisfied. The guy won two belts and the point of winning a belt is too defend it. There will be good matches coming up if he defends his belts. He could start a legacy at 168. There's no need for him to do anything hasty or move up to light heavy. It's funny how JoeCal wants to be a star in the states, but ironically, fighting Kessler and winning will make him more popular than beating Manfredo. It sucks because way never know who was better.

CC back Greg i suppose your right about what else has he got to... but at the end of the day kessler could end up with nothing if he goes down that route and that would be fatal :(

I would have to respect the man that takes the option of risking much on the side of becoming a great, rather than one that risks little to become rich.

Re: What if Kessler grabs the IBF belt?
I can't wait, let Mikkel get that belt....I will love watching him try to hand pick his oppenents then!!!
Jermain Taylor
B-Hop
but in my opinion Calzaghe NEEDS to fight and beat this dude

Re: What if Kessler grabs the IBF belt?
It could create a huge show-down similar to Tyson Spinks
When Tyson won his first alphabet title Spinks was the world champ, and held the ibf alphabet strap- Spinks was stript and Tyson collected all the alphabet titles, creating two fighters, each with credible arguments that they were the champ.
= big money
-
Re: What if Kessler grabs the IBF belt?
If kess had all 3 belts on paper he would be the undisputed champ just like roy was the undiputed champ at 175 even though he won belts that were stripped from mike d. So if joe plans on staying at 168 he would have to fight him. Im sorry but I don't count that wbo strap. Never have and never will.
-
Re: What if Kessler grabs the IBF belt?
Mike D....who the hell is Mike D???
Titles don't make the man....the man makes the titles.
Case in point Nicolay Valuev, "won" his title in a place where he'd have to be KO'd to lose, won it off of John Ruiz by a decision Ruiz still disputes, 1st defense Owen Beck IN GERMANY, 2nd defense vs Monte Barrett Chicago, 3rd defense vs Jameel McCline SWITZERLAND!!!!
WBA = CRAP
-
Re: What if Kessler grabs the IBF belt?
Well first off is not gonna happen because IBF will not rank Kessler since he is a world champion. The only way Kessler would get a shot at the title would be if the new IBF champ would face him.
-
Re: What if Kessler grabs the IBF belt?
The true champ will not be revealed until Calzaghe fights Kessler, no matter what the belts say.
But Calzaghe will run instead. I don't think it's him really, but Warren pulling the strings. I mean Bika, then Manfredo?

Didn't Beyer have to use a walker in his ring entrance???
I wouldn't say anything if Kessler actually beat SOMEONE under 35....not even someone good, just SOMEONE

He beat Anthony Mundine in Australia when anthony was 30.

Re: What if Kessler grabs the IBF belt?
Kessler should do anything but NOT WAIT FOR JC! He needs to stay active.(being a margarito fan I can tell you it's a toall fricking pain in the ass watching you fighter wait for someone in particaulr, stay inactive and still not get him). Kessler shoud go for the IBF title if he can afford the sanctioning fees.
By the way, with that RING mag thing,JC has the RING title right? What would happen if Kessler won the IBF title, that would mean he had 3 titles?!? Who would be the true champ?! And MR.mANICK,what makes the WBO title any less worthy than the other alphabet soup titles? Is the IBF better than the WBC? Why? I'm just wondering,I get confused with this title stuff! ???

Jermain Taylor
B-Hop

As far as I can see BHop is moving up to the big money HW division, or if not I'd expect him to stay around lightheavy rather than come back down to SMW. And the next big buckser for Jermain Taylor would have to be a rematch against Winky. I'm not overly convinced that Kessler would want to go in for the IBF belt, unless the IBF let him put it on his next defence, along with his other straps, rumoured to be a mandatory for one of the other belts against Lucian Bute in March.
Did anyone find out who the fwock was Mike D in the end, cause its a mystery to me!

Mike D., hes one of the "posse" in the Beastie Boys.... :P
Joe Vs Kess will never happen.
Kess should go for all 3(would he really lose money in fees with 3 belts?)
And the WBA is like the "minor leauges" of the boxing world.

Yes but you know even though he beat Mundine, he did not KO him. And this is widespread knowledge, Sven Ottke who had 6 KO's TOTAL was able to KO Anthony Mundine.
You're telling me this guy is a good boxer and he doesn't fight the best and then you tell me he's a big puncher but he can't KO Mundine....not to crack on him but Sven Ottke, his stats speak for his ability as a fighter and of course so do Kessler's.
Fighting outside of Denmark every once in a while would be nice to....being a WORLD champion, I expect it. I think it's great for boxing that the great fighters go outside of their home country to fight every now and then.

Lyle I think you grossly underrate Mundine and Beyer's boxing ability!! I'd say they are both in the top 5 at SM. Forget about Ottke, it really isnt relevent in comparison to Anthony Mundine of 2006.
-
Re: What if Kessler grabs the IBF belt?
I know Mundine is a good boxer as WAS Beyer but the FACT is that Anthony got seriously ROCKED by Sven Ottke even though Mundine was winning the fight (which would have been damn near impossible to WIN on the cards in germany).....but you have to ask WHY wasn't Mikkel Kessler the big imposing Viking Warrior not able to hurt Anthony or stop him?
Beyer was just old...he was on the slide...he drew with Bika before this fight and Kessler took advantage of a more war ridden aging boxer.
I don't WANT to hate Kessler but his fans are assholes and he has yet to prove himself. Yes he looks like he has the goods but looking and actually HAVING the goods are two completely different things. Like PBF I want Kessler to be seriously challenged and earn my respect.
