Erik to fight Casamayor!!!???
http://www.philstar.com/philstar/sho...article=290887
Erik seem to be keen on fighting Casamayor for his fourth division title. Although, I don't agree with his choice of opponent, but good luck to him anyway. I always want to see great fighters win big before retiring, no matter who they are - they deserve it. I think it all depends on his heart, not that 'being shot' stuff - if he still has that fire inside his heart, he just might be able win, but of course that's a big question mark.

Re: Erik to fight Casamayor!!!???
If you didn't see the fire in Morales' last showing, than you can't see anything.
I gotta be straight forward man, can't be otherwise about things like this.

Yea, if Ali had still had the heart he would have never lost to Holmes or Berbick.. If Fernando Vargas just had some heart he'd rule the middleweight division today....
No offence man but that's a very dumb comment. Morales has always had an incredible abundance of heart, if his heart hadn't been there he never would have fought Manny Pac a third time or tried to get down to 130.. The polar opposite of what you think is true, his heart is going to end up getting him seriously hurt because it's the only thing he has left thats still running on all cylinders, as has been the case with so, so many fighters.. Morales is SHOT... SHOT SHOT SHOT. He could perform better at 135 then he has 130, but he'll never fight like he once could, and he will also be facing a much larger man if this travesty comes off. I honestly don't think he should be even considering fighting a serious lightweight, letalone Casamayor.

Re: Erik to fight Casamayor!!!???
It's just that I've heard him saying couple of times the last year or so that he is 'tired of boxing,' and to me, that's nothing more than losing 'the fire in his heart.' I don't know how others interpret it.

Re: Erik to fight Casamayor!!!???
Casamayor has been calling for a fight with Barrera. Ethier one I think gets knocked out by Casamayor. To much size. Casamayor has never faught below 130 in his entire career. While Morales and Barerra have been less effective as they gone up in weight. Bad fight for both. Especially Morales. Not a fight I would want to see.

Re: Erik to fight Casamayor!!!???
Yup, pointless is the word im looking for.
Morales has already done it.
Im seeing signs now that by the eventual end of his career, they'll be peeps here (new members and pac fans alike ;D) who'll only claim that Morales is (or even was) a sham of a fighter....
I dont want thant to happen :-\

Re: Erik to fight Casamayor!!!???
casamayor would of outbox Erik silly, what a silly choice of opponent for erik to pick

CC PacFan, you deserve it. :) I know you didn't mean anything bad about that. You have always been class. And it's true that after Pac Morales II, Morales didn't have the "fire in his heart." But that was after he had a couple of straight losses and a serious Pac beat down. heheh So please forgive him for saying such things. I for one have lost the fire in my heart for school.... :'( ..... but I'm going to take a break. And come back ferocious this time! >:mad ;D
I still don't think Morales "should" compete in boxing. I think he CAN but given the Manny's punishment and his entire career... he ought to call it a great career.
Casamayor is probably the easiest choice of champions at 135 lbs for Morales right now...
... Casa's legs are no more and he's slowing a bit. But that's like choosing the ugliest girl from Victoria's Secret Catalog. ;D You guys get me? heheh

I think Juan Diaz would be the easiest of the title holders. But Casamayor is actually the only one who matters since he's The Ring champion

No sweat, pal, you can say what you want and I won't mind as long as you really believe in it. I always admire guyz who stick to his words and fighters than those who make big noise but do a 'dissappearing act' when the fight draws near - as I've said, you win some and lose some, there's nothing to it. So you and the infamous VDemise gets my respect here... CC to both of you. I can do with one SC though ;D.
...Ya, I agree pretty much with all out here that the choice is definitely not a wise one...but then, don't you agree it'll be much, much more grand if he pulls this one off ::**. Just dreamin'... ...just ignore that last part.

Too youthful and too much energy for an aging fighter. He'll be in Morales' face all day, much the same Pacquiao delt with Morales. Diaz certainly won't pull a Juarez and do nothing all night.
Oh so he's the Ring Champ. I didn't know that, that makes sense, but I am reading the last issue of Ring right now. ;D

Re: Erik to fight Casamayor!!!???
I still believe Morales can still deliver. After losing from PAcquaio he has nothing to be ashamed of. I can't think of someone who will win over Pacquaio these days. I will still choose EM over Casamayor.... if that fight happens. O0

I hear what your saying. :) But when your chin starts to crack..... wait... Is ALREADY cracked... then brain damage has occured and will continue. Erik Morales better call it a career. He did have successful some trades-of-punches with Pacquiao, showing his own speed as well. But Morales has always had underrated handspeed.

Re: Erik to fight Casamayor!!!???
i dont know about this but casa aint impressive at all when he fought chico
i think EM can take his best punch and this time he could outbox him
its just me.. it never crossed my mind i'll admitt it.
but EM is a great warrior and he deserves a great goodbye fight...
if he wins the title he'll be tied with chavez i believe
so why not take the risk?

Casamayor has been far deserving of glory - far more than he has ever really received.
He can hang & bang with the best of them.

Disagree on both. Even if he does manage to stay on his feet though, EM will be humiliatingly outboxed. Casamayor is a MUCH better technical boxer than EM ever was. And we all saw what happened against Raheem.

Because he's only like 30 years old and he'll be adding that much more brain damage for the rest of his life, for a fight he has about a 1% chance of winning.

Re: Erik to fight Casamayor!!!???
CC for the news Pacfan. Im a HUGE EM fan but I think it would be best for him to retire. I will miss him but he went out like a warrior/ I only see one outcome for the Cas fight,a beating for Erik. I know he hadn't trained properly etc for Raheem but Joel is far slicker and can bang too,it would be a 1 sided beating unless Erik pulled out ALLLLLLL the stops.
-
Re: Erik to fight Casamayor!!!???
at what weight? I just hope is at 135 since Raheem frustated Morales he went back down but for me that is his best weight. If tha fight takes place at 135 I will go with Morales all the way.

We seem to forget Casamayor will be 36 next year
With Morales adding more weight and not drain himself, then this will be a good fight.
Casamayor will also fight toe to e in which Morales reach will be a bigger advantage.
I have a gut feeling Morales will be reinvented and become champion again
Mark my word

Casamayor would replenish EM's career. It's not over... I hope...

Re: Erik to fight Casamayor!!!???
I am still in shock.
I am still waiting for Morales to get up off the canvas and finish the round. He was down but he was not out.
:'(
I am angry, sad, upset ::**
If he wants to move up in weight and fight Casita then more power to him. I guess he knew he was done with PacMan and why get killed when you can live to fight another day.
-
Re: Erik to fight Casamayor!!!???
How does back to back K.O defeats and 4 out of 5 losses qualify you for a shot at a world title in a higher weight ? This fight shouldnt happen if Erik values his health.Whoever he fights next , he'll pull a " no mas " again cuz his body and warrior spirit have gone

Re: Erik to fight Casamayor!!!???
Morales is one of my favorite fighters ever, but this is a bad move and just the type of decision that I was worried he'd make.
Morales is an ancient 30 years old, has been in so many wars I've lost track, and has drained his body over the years by killing himself to make the weight. Now he's moving up in weight to fight a slick boxer who is also the naturally bigger man.
It doesn't matter that Casamayor is 35, in boxing years he's younger than Morales.
I admire his neverending desire to be a world champion, but this is not a Bernard Hopkins-type situation. Hopkins was over 40 years old when he moved up to 175, but he had suffered very little punishment over the years and was in strong physical condition. And the Taylor losses he was coming off were plodding, technical fights.
People keep talking about Morales' "heart," and yes, it's a great quality, but while heart can help take a young fighter to a top, heart can also cause an old fighter to hang around far too long and suffer beatings that can affect the rest of his life.
