Name a current boxer who fights with pure love for the sport. Do we have any pro boxers these days that fight for the thrill of fighting?
I'm VERY interested in all your opinions.

actually to answer Kel's question accuratley and seriously the answer is Evander Holyfield. all jokes aside he depicts truly what kel's asking. no longer gets the highest purses in boxing history not even a mere fraction, yet he still fights on despite that, and health risks, and everyone including on this forum clowning him.
I haven't said anything about Holyfield..... I don't watch much heavywieght fighting that isn't for belts.....hell they are bad enough. But oyu are right Pd4Pd. CC
Probably not someone you would expect but I reckon James Toney is one of those guys.
I mean he's approaching 40, has had over 85 FIGHTS! which is completely unheard of for a modern fighter outside of South America and other less developed countries.
I cant think of a single other fighter from North America or Europe who has had as many fights as him and still performs at the highest level.
He can't need the money so it seems the guy just loves to fight.
If only he could learn to love train as well, he could have been one of the best ever :P
Duran has to be another example. Remember he only retired in 2002 after a car crash!
I almost mentioned Evander in my initial post for that very reason but I did not want people to answer to my post and have the whole thread based on Holyfield. CCQuote:

I was gonna say Toney actually. He does seem to really enjoy fighting and even sparring, not so much with the running and not eatingQuote:

Hmm. its hard to decide.
Theres different ways to gage a fighters love for the game...
I mean James Toneys has had a ton of fights, which IMO puts him right up there. He's said before that he'll fight anyone, anytime.. Which i kinda belive.
But the flip side of it is his poor attitude towards preperation.. Which other lovers of the sport can rightfully frown upon....
People like Floyd Mayweather, a guy that could easily break out into a lengthy road work session should he feel his heart beat slowing!
Or even Bernard Hopkins, who at nearly 41, continues to live the life of a monk outside of the ring in the name of longevity.
Then of course you have the tragic romantics. The Ali's, Morales', Holyfields and Gatti's. The guys who have made a career out of fighting the best of the best, taker on of all comers and even despite there own depleeting vital signs, continue to strive for the big time fights and bright lights.
The Grinch.........the philosopher.....the poet....the hater of Christmas

Oscar Delahoya lives a good clean life has a very nutritious diet He can fight well thru his late 30's and early 40's and be effective if he so desires . unlike fighters that have bouts of major drug use in their careers , they age at a much faster rate and thus get old in their 30’s I remember Bert Cooper when he was 26 years old.. Looked like the was 46 in the face . Them crack years are rough. Ages the body and the mind like Dog years ! O0
DLH
Hopkins
Holyfield
RJJ ( id say more that he likes to be on the spot light)
Mosley
Morales
Soliman ( he keeps on smiling) ;D
James Toney in the fight against Roy JOnes when he was getting hit HARD he said he was having fun, and he also seems to always have a smile in the ring.
Emmanuel Augustus.
Jumps in the ring against anyone any time and genuinely loves every aspect of sport.
Sure he may dog a bit, but damn, you can't deny his love of being in the ring.
Haven't seen much fight in him in the last 3 fights ;)Quote:

HOLYFIELD takes it, hands down.
Gatti
Honorable mention
barrera
morales
Well I can't actually say if they fight just for the love of the sport? I mean that has to be part of it with many guys the money is also another part...Here are guys I know don't need boxing to make a good living so they must really love the game...
Wlad Klitschko...The guy has a doctorite for goodneess sake
Calvin Brock...successful banker
Jean Marc Mormeck...Successful Businessman..
Bernard Hopkins...I am sure he started out for just money but heis an all time great now and just boxes for fun IMO
Oscar De La Hoya..Cmon the guy is the richest earning fighter in history
like I said just thoughts
Excellent ! Fighting gives Ricky a hard on ! He is like a caged animal.. non stop action this one ! O0Quote:
