What is everyone's opinion on Hopkins fight Oleg Maeskev?

You know, I actually would of said he is on a suicide misson if this was a year ago but after what he did to Tarver & boy did he do it! I will go out on a limb & say a very one-sided UD for Hopkins if the fight ever takes place & the same if he fight Roy at light heavy! Hopkins has proved so much to me & proved he is one of the greatest fighters!

yeah i agree. i see it either b-hop out boxing oleg all night and just beating him to the punch and shoulder rolls up the ass etc etc or i see Oleg catching him with a big mother hand and we'll see B-hop sleep for the first time.

I think it's an easy fight for Hopkins. And it doesn't excite me much. I'll cc you even if it is SouthSideX3 all day, every day.

I hope it happens just to see the nard make history.

Maskaev is such a bum though that I wouldnt even rule out Othello on Sunday :-\

Hopkins. He's one of the only boxers that I can say that I have never seen him fight badly. Maybe on occasion I could say he could have faught better. I cannot see him being the underdog in any fight around his weight.

We all know that Hopkins, Toney & RJJ are all trying SOOOOOO very hard to overshadow one anothers careers by doing more then the other....

IMO, RJJ is leading the pack cause whatever he does there go the other 2 right behind him....

Maskaev will probably lose his title and be out of the picture before Hopkins gets a chance against him. Hopkins could move up and take out another heavyweight though, just pick the weakest of a weak pack for the sake of a heavyweight scalp like Jones did. Only Id hope Bernard has the sense to retire after it unlike Jones. Whats the point in fighting on? Where can a bulked up middleweight go after taking a heavyweight crown, its only downhill from there.

Sadly though I don't think that will happen, he'll continue fighting untill he looses to someone he wasn't supposse to. It's called 'Keep fighting untill I tarnish my career' syndrome.....

it was strange when hopkins said he was moving up to heavyweight but it aint a bad idea though. he could win

You did not watch his warm up fight before his fight with De La Hoya.

It was 1 of the most boring fights I have ever watched.

Maskaev's two biggest wins are over one of the biggest under acheivers over 200lbs. Maskaev is pretty beatable in the grand scheme of things as far as Hopkins is concerned.

Also...if you don't know where these guys are coming from that they think they can just step into the ring with a legitimate heavyweight...most of them are coming from America...most of them that try...suceed...now...whether or not they are actually legit heavies is another matter entirely...but they are heavies that have defeated legit heavies...so that's gotta mean something.

It would be an accomplishment for Hopkins...no doubt...then thing is...Hopkins has the chin, the speed, & the craft to make Maskaev look silly...I doubt that Maskaev will agree to the fight.

I don't know about that. B-Hop and The Golden Boy's company have millions of ways of persuading Maskaev. As far as the promotion of the fight, just the mere mention of B-Hop moving up to bring a piece of the heavyweight title back to America will sell the fight.

Hopkins should have a few fights at Heavyweight before getting an opportunity to fight for a title.

The same reason why RJJ fought Ruiz instead of Lewis, Hopkins would fight Maskaev instead of Klitschko...

Yep. I pretty much agree here.

Here's the thing about Hopkins with me...he pretty much destroyed Tarver who beat Jones 3 times outta 3 (IWO) & in the end...anyway you slice it...that in a sense should right the wrong for him concerning his loss to Jones...but he still wanted a piece of Jones.

Pride will be Bernard's downfall. Never being knocked out gives a man a hellacious amount of confidence...but having a man that outweighs you by 100lbs nail you repeatedly...that outcome might change.

i think he is blatantly going after the weakest of the famous four and the fight itself is for the wrong reasons. he should fight calzaghe for a super fight, not some shity slow heavy weight who most people have never heard of.

Agreed...but I'm not so sure that Joe would fight him...he said that he would...but it seems that Joe calls out a lot of names lately but chooses the shit opponents too.

Hopkins decision. Period. Its sooo easy to predict....an average fighter against one of the most technically gifted of the last decade, Hopkins UD all over it.

Maskeav would beat Hopkins. Hopkins is not going to do anything to Oleg. B - Hopkins is not that powerful of a puncher. Oleg can take a pretty decent shot, and he can deliver. I think Oleg would knock him out late. JMO

If Hopkins wants to prove a point, he'll fight Joe. In that particular fight, it won't matter that Hopkins isn't busy, Joe would do all the work.

What kind of a challenge is it when guys like Jones and Toney beat Ruiz and if Hopkins beats Maeskev.?? Maskaev is the worst of all the champs and Hopkins could beat him same as Ruiz was the worst heavyweight. Now I know Holyfield was declining when he fought 3 fights against Ruiz. Hopkins should fight Klitch or even Briggs. Briggs he might be able to beat. If Hopkins beat a guy like Peter who is not a champ but could be, I would say wow good win and avoided the bomb. The only small guy who is proving anything is Toney. The guy is fighting heavyweights and his record at heavyweight is good. He has a good heavyweight resume now. Give James credit. Even in losing some fights he proves alot. If Hopkins beat Klitchko that would be really good, but if we have a few champs and the guys who are smaller handpick the worst guy in the division ( like Hopkins is doing)is that really a great accomplishment? I dont think so. And as much as I like Bernard, he should not be given a fight just because he wants it either . He should have to fight a contender and get a shot at the title the way anyone else does.

if his performance against Tarver is anything to go by I think its a very good move. Hes fighting a World heavyweight Champion hes not gonna fear. Maskaev is one of the most ordinary Ive seen. If the fight takes place id have money on Hopkins outboxing him for a wide decision
