Unimpressive Jermaine Taylor tonight
Jermaine showed me nothing worth while tonight against Ouma, yes he hit Ouma, but Ouma stands directly in front of his opponents and is not hard to hit. He looked tired and a slow punching Ouma hit him, although not hard, still hit him. I am not sure the Jermaine I saw tonight could beat Miranda, Pavlik, Abraham or Calzaghe, even as bad as Calzaghe looked against Bika.
How did others see the fight??

Honestly...I've always liked Taylor...but I just aint that impressed with him lately.
Even though he defeated Hopkins twice (but lost the first fight) & then drew with Wright (but lost that fight too) & even though Ouma (a much smaller man) pushed him around the ring tonight...I just can't agree with calling him Undisputed Middleweight Champion of the World...even though...that's just what he is.

Re: Unimpressive Jermaine Taylor tonight
I'm with you on this one. Jermain continues to do alright. Nothing spectacular. I don't know how long we can say he's a diamond in the rough? Eventually we have to say he's no diamond... he's a good fighter... but no diamond.

Re: Unimpressive Jermaine Taylor tonight
I was getting very depressed watching this fight. If Taylor couldn't get the KO tonight it's quite possible that he'll never score another. Odds are that at some point the next KO will come, but still... :-[
I'll pick Ouma to win when he drops back down, but he should have just stayed home tonight. Well, maybe not... took a beating for that paycheck though.

Well...you gotta look at the caliber of gents that Taylor was dropping. They were either oldies but decents, washed up, or sparring partners.
Taylor still has KO power...but it's the fact that he's so pressable that bothers me the most.

Agreed.

Re: Unimpressive Jermaine Taylor tonight
It's like all you guys said after Calzaghe-Bika. All that matters is the win. Well Taylor got the fuckin win. Case close

Re: Unimpressive Jermaine Taylor tonight
Jermain Taylor needs Pat Burns back. He as done nothing but decline since his seperation with him. You can emanuel Steward all you want, but the bottom line is Jermain Taylor is not using the weapon that got him to where he is. The Freakin Jab. He has totally abandoned it. When he had pat burns i had never seen him backed up, he was always the agressor. Hes like a totally different fighter. Yea Emanuel has changed him but not for the better. Im not sure what the problem is but i think hes trying to make Jermain a fighter he is not. He is not a slugger. He is a boxer or was a boxer. I think i would beg pat burns to come back here. He is not progressing under emanuel is regressing.

Agreed...but wasn't Burns with him during the Hopkins fight? I can't remember for sure...but I believe that he was.

Re: Unimpressive Jermaine Taylor tonight
Yes Burns was with him against hopkins, but wack if that was hopkins in there tonight its goodbye Jermain. Hed be KO"d . YOu know how big of a fan his i am, and im sayin that. Emanuel is not the man for the job. Its pat burns who obviously knows his fighter's strengths. Everything that he through came off the jab, and it made him a dynamic and exciting fighter. Jermain didnt used to back up like that. He was in there to take it to his opponent.
-
Re: Unimpressive Jermaine Taylor tonight
Too much hugging for me ! Should have been at least 2 point deductions for excessive holding from Taylor ! Jesus . Manny has the smaller guys hugging now. Jesus ! . other than that it was good match. I loved the ring size by the way.. if you going to have open scoring it need to be in a ring just like that tonight 16-17 foot. should be mandatory in all pro fights if you ask me.

I know babe...I was just being a smart ass as usual.
I've been nailed up for saying that Steward is overratted & that he aint what Taylor needs.
Here's my thoughts on the matter...they're pretty much the same as yours...but I think that when Taylor made the switch to Steward...he might have realized the mistake & recognized it...& now he's stuck with it & really doesn't know how to go back to what he was.
Honestly...I know that this sounds mighty conspiracy-ish...but once HBO starts cashing in on you...they pull a buncha strings & you kinda become a "do-bwoy" so to speak...those that didn't & buck the HBO system ala: Jones jr & Mayweather kinda get pushed the fwock off.
Pacquiao, Gatti, Barrera, & Taylor have all been just what the network ordered...one of the big exceptions to the rule seems to be Oscar...hell he almost is HBO. ;D
Anywho...for some reason I just feel that HBO might have engineered or pushed Taylor in the Steward direction...& that's where he is. I've said all along that Taylor fwocked himself when he gave Burns the walking papers.
-
Re: Unimpressive Jermaine Taylor tonight
I am so glad that Jermain forgot how to jab tonight :) Or at least jab at a non stationary target..
-
Re: Unimpressive Jermaine Taylor tonight
Unimpressive?!? He gave Ouma a beat down. It wasn't even close. I gave Taylor every round.
-
Re: Unimpressive Jermaine Taylor tonight
hey j.t still dominated he got the win...credit to ouma he is a stubborn fighter...yea j.t still doesn't look so crafty but the boy is a winner...and he is willing to fight anyone...his a huge middleweight...no matter what his gonna be hella hard to beat...if ever he is beaten...I doubt it... 8)

Re: Unimpressive Jermaine Taylor tonight
I can't believe people are disappointed, as if you all actually expected something different. When will people learn that this is simply the way Jermaine Taylor fights? If you're actually expecting him to show up one fight and look like Julian Jackson you're kidding yourselves. This is just the way he fights, he wasn't blessed with a very exciting style to watch, and most of his fights turn up ugly. But I respect him for taking on all comers and doing everything he can.

Re: Unimpressive Jermaine Taylor tonight
Dissappointing performance from JT. He was being backed up by a smaller Ouma, needs lots of space to throw his shots which are slow and telegraphed, rarely throws combos and on top of all of that, was holding Ouma and didn't hurt Kassim so along with the other factors,is JT's power over rated? I was looking for a good performance,I lke the guys attitude but I really don't see what he has been working on with Steward? He is open to counters when he throws his right hand,as he cocks his left hand back so is wide open down the middle!! It was strange to see the small Ouma acking up the much muhc bigger Taylor and if I was Winky Wright,I'd want a rematch asap!!!
Ouma was dissappointing too, known for his work ethic yet I didn't see anything there although he showed heart to keep going forward but he needs to get back to 154!!!
Having seen JT's last few fights,I have to say,Im HUGELY dissappointed in Bernard Hopkins for not beating him..Hopkins is better in almost every aspect,so why the hell did he not win? Especially the second time around!
JC would abslutely wreck Taylor, his activity level would be way way way too much for JT especially as he backs up so much voluntarily,I mean Ouma was just walking after him and JT would just walk backwards! Calzaghe's speed would bedazzle Taylor!

Is this really how he fights in every fight? I have seen his ast 4 fights only so I wouldn't know but if it is,someone, somewhere is going to give him a beat down!!

Watch Taylor about 4 or 5 fights ago.
You should get what people mean.
The fact that he used to have a jaw dropping jab that set up all of his shots & accurately coupled with the fact that he was knocking motherfwockers out...it raises the expectations of the Undisputed Middleweight Champ of the World.

Personally...I think that Hopkins won the first fight & I always will...he landed the cleaner shots & he landed more of them...he just took longer to start than Taylor did. Hopkins won that fight also on connections alone.
That being said...I think that Taylor won the 2nd one.
-
Re: Unimpressive Jermaine Taylor tonight
I agree Hopkins won the first fight but it was close and the second fight,he should have realised his mistake from the first and upped his game! I mean JT looked OK last night but far from a world beater!

Spot on. You have a way of saying what I want to say in a very precise way. When I agree with you that is.
I want to add that when someone is landing shots like that on a smaller man the outcome is expected to be different. When you wait for something that never happens you are left scratching your head and worrying about future fights with bigger men. In the same way that a bad ending can ruin an entire movie.

Exactly...& he's had two controversial decisions against the Elite, he ko'd a sparring partner, & he got bullied by a smaller man that he couldn't put away...again...hardly the expectations one has for the Undisputed Middleweight Champ of the World.
I'm not saying that Taylor sucks...I'm not even saying that he's a "craftless fighter" like Merchant said...I'm just saying...I'm not sold on him nor am I impressed anymore.

Re: Unimpressive Jermaine Taylor tonight
Then your expectations are unrealistic. Not every middleweight champion can be as good as Marvin Hagler.

People need to get over this 'bigger man/smaller man' crap. Their both middleweights. A guy being shorter doesn't mean he's a superlightweight. Bigger man-smaller man may come into play when you're speaking of heavyweights, which is limitless in terms of weights and provides you with matchups like Wlad-Byrd or Lennox-Tyson, but unless a fighter came up from 6 divisions below, it's pretty meaningless.

That's a matter of opinion that we'll just have to differ in...if you can deal with your heroes or whatever being under acheivers & always settling for "duuh duh duh I'm a work in progress Larry. Is always sumfin wif me" then so be it...but I'd rather my heroes make a statement themselves then have the judges help them or their sparkling personalities merit a win.

Another matter of opinion...but if Ouma hadv'e kicked his ass...it still woulda been bigger man smaller man for me.
It'll be bigger man smaller man until the end of time because that's an impressive defecit to breach in the male world. It just is.
If your'e in a bar & see some little short gent crack the shit out of some big muscle bound brute...betcha money you go home talking about how the midget slayed the giant.
It's just a fact.

Say what you will but as flawed as he is, Hopkins couldn't beat him. You just hate him cause he conquered your fav fighter and you've been bashing him ever since. Hopkins should have actually fought and not be so scared in those early rounds but now he has no basis for his your crying. At least JT is not padding his record against a bunch of bums ala Hopkins.

Apparently, like Tito, you lack the ability to understand the English language process without a translator.
I won't get into mixing words with you because I know that you have issues with fully comprehending sentences...but I have been & am a fan of Taylor...just as I am Wright's...just as I am Oscar's...just as I am Hopkins...all of whom have or will face on or the other.
I've been bashing him ever since he started under preforming.
Also...Taylor's record only has 3 legit names on it...so don't try that crap about Hopkins record bullshit & in the end...everyone pretty much knows where you come from...Hopkins was the first to truly HUMILIATE & SLAUGHTER TRINIDAD.
If anyone needs to cry...it's you babe. ;) :-*

Too many fights lately where a physically stronger man takes on a smaller {game} opponent ie - Taylor v Ouma , Berto v Figueroa & last weeks Wright v Quartey good match ups on paper but predictable outcomes don't you think ??

poor show form taylor. alot people expected something from him and he let us down

Re: Unimpressive Jermaine Taylor tonight
I dunno... I was expecting ALOT more from JT in this fight.
You got to wonder what will happen if he ever steps in the ring with someone with decent power that CAN hurt him.

Re: Unimpressive Jermaine Taylor tonight
IMO, I think it was not JT being unimpressive but simply Ouma making him look bad. As a bigger and stronger champ, Taylor should have been the one to bring it to the challenger as most believe, but it was the challenger who did that and 'stole the show' to some extent, so to speak.

It just really all depends on what you expect from Taylor. I've grown to expect a lot from the kid & he was proving himself there for awhile but I truly believe that he's fallen off a bit.

I've only seen him fight only twice so I have to admit I'm not much qualified to talk about him. So he was a better fighter then, I didn't know that. That's indeed disappointing cuz at his age he should be 'peaking' instead of declining. IMO, he just needs to be a bit more agressive and perhaps add little more defensive moves, and he should be a good fighter. He did move pretty well for his size, though.

I think he was. He was more confident & Pat Burns had him utilizing his jab a lot more than Steward does...oddly enough. Taylor used to set up everything with his jab & he was more of a presser.
Now he just backs up & tries to fight off of the ropes...clearly not his best spot to work from.
Try to locate his fights against Primera, Cuevas, & Bunema...really good showings of him on form.

Taylor is getting a bit soft, from being on top, happens to lots of fighters, the money, the fame, the consequential lack of hunger . Taylor still hit very hard , his punches had plenty of mustard on them.
He just lacks the sharpness and focus
Ouma had hard life, he is a tough fighter mentally. Overcoming obstacles has been his trademark in life, when someone like that is fighting for a world title they hungry, and can withstand tremendous amounts of adversity. Hats off to Ouma for bringing it .
