Who is the most Boring Boxer Today? zzz
Well we gotta have the anti-clone to other threads too. :)
LIST:
1) Ivan Calderon - Usually on the undercards they showcase this guy to extend the PPV time so that they don't have to offer more fights.
2) Floyd Mayweather - If you thought Baldomir was exciting, you better have been apart of Floyd's posse and fought Zab's entourage in the ring.
3) Winky Wright - Can anyone figure this guy OUT!!!!
4) Bernard Hopkins - He sells tickets, but I think many buy them because Bernard "The Executioner" Hopkins NAME sounds so threatening.
5) Almost every fighter in Heavyweight division. I'm not including Wlad here guys!
People that think Winky and Mayweather are exciting... haha, I will never understand you. YES you can appreciate the details they do and study them. But that's school work. haha Learning is fun and all.... but compare that to a Cotto Barnburner? ;D
NOTE: This is not a talent contest, only a bore-fest!
Every guy on his is extremely talented, besides list number 5.

Re: Who is the most Boring Boxer Today? zzz
I didn't think there could be a fight worse than when
John "the boring man" Ruiz is in the ring........
untill I saw the Briggs/Sergei fight....12 rounds of peaceful slumber right up to the last 15 seconds..too bad i was fast asleep by then..
But really nytol, gravol, warm milk,a hot bath and getting my back rubbed cant put me to sleep like John Ruiz

Haha, I would have had him as number ONE, but thank the boxing gods we haven't seen this guy on television for quite some time. ;) Briggs fight... now here's where I go wrong, because I thought that was entertaining... because I was amazed at Brigg's counterpunching skills. heh But yes, that fight was INACTIVE as the best up there.

I agree that Briggs had fast hands and good counterpunching.
But 3 punches /round landed!!! thats a joke! Two big mooks staring at each other round after round..it was a pathetic display!

Junior Witter is more boring to watch than all of those you mentioned.
-
Re: Who is the most Boring Boxer Today? zzz
To me guys Calzaghe bores me more than he thrills , Lacy was a chump and now hes fighting a tv guy with 2 losses dont bother knocking on the hall of fame door Joe your division stinks , talk is cheap unlike tickets to your fights :)
Later chaps -Al the truth
-
Re: Who is the most Boring Boxer Today? zzz
Jermain Taylor is making his way up there... I wasn't the least bit impressed or entertained in his fight yesterday and Ouma was an opponent he should have been able to at least make for an entertaining fight against.. I know his fight with Winky was fairly good to watch, but mostly because Winky was able to effectively pressure him.. I still can't see why Winky gets so much bad rep for being boring and Taylor is thought of as an exciting fighter...

Re: Who is the most Boring Boxer Today? zzz

The only one I agree with is #5 other then that the guys mentioned aren't your 1 punch KO artists..... But they excite if your into technicians who like to break a fighter down.
Example: Calderon doesn't hold almost at all and he doesn't run. He moves and just almost boxes to perfection it's exciting to see someone NOT HOLD and NOT RUN but yet still box a masterpiece.
PBF: Holds & Runs.
Winky: I can see why you think hes boring BUT if you pay attention and notice how he conducts/predicts the pase of his fghts is just insane how he makes fighters follow his lead.
Hopkins: Well in his early days he had some really nice KO/TKO's and towards the end of his career he became the smart throwback fighter, he does hold a lot and in his 2 fights with Taylor he looked aged....
Heavyweights: I think the only one thats exciting is Wladdy at the moment....

Re: Who is the most Boring Boxer Today? zzz
For anybody who says Floyd and Winky are entertaining... even Hopkins. (Well Hopkins is running on his past performances which were VERY thrilling.)
Have you seen any of them fight live? Are they "entertaining" enough for you to buy tickets and take the time to see them live?
heh, If you have, then your like a rare specimen. :D
C'mon man, I'm calling every fan out! Who thinks these guys are entertaining. ;)
Have you seen them live! Would you take the time. haha
With Erik Morales, *Barrera, and Manny Pacquiao... I would.... but then again they are, for the most part, entertaining.
*Only entertaining when fighting someone Great.

ive always KNOCKED B-HOP for being boring as Fukkkkkk. not my cup of tea at all. u wanna know how boring he was? i had PIMP seats to B-Hop vs JT II(like many fights i made a chick buy me tickets) and i didnt even go or use them or sell them and i came up here to the great white northwest to look over my businesses instead.
however to keep it REAL i do give him props for defeating Tarver tho and even how he carried himself in the conferences before and after really impressed me.
one thing that B-HOP did differently from the Tarver fight than the JT fights was he actually did shiiiiit in the first 6 rounds in fact he brought it from bell to bell. where as in the JT fights he didnt do SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT for the first 6-7rounds. yet all the B-HOP WACKOS(no pun intended) thought he actually clearly won.

Yo man, I say which fighters are entertaining, and I back it up by taking the time to watch them live and appreciate the little time I have with their performances.
Bernard could have KO'd Tarver, but he didn't because "theze dayz" going for the knockout is considered "bad boxing."

I'm glad you mentioned Pacquiao, because that's exactly whats happening these days. People already cast this guy as a "wild man" with "little boxing skills."
And HE Knockes 'em OUT. Leaves it out of the hands of the judges! At least he tried to with JMM ;D. But this guy lets it all go in the ring.
I'll say one phrase to sum it up... "If Pac can keep improving and fighting with the same spirit... Pac has has a chance to be one of the most talented all-time-greats."

did u know Pac and EV sparred?
PAC was way to fast and schooled EV in their sparring sessions. now it was only sparring, but yo PAC is probably the most improving/evolving fighter PERIOD. look how much hes evolved from the EM 1, EM 2, to my personal favorite the LARIOS bout damn he pulled some crazy moves there man.

I'm going on a tangent, with my little rants. heh
But I heard about that. My bud called it though, Pac is faster than Bruce Lee. haha :kar:
I don't know, Pac's head is there to catch, without the headgear and fatty gloves... BUT I do believe Pac loves the spotlight and performes even better in the ring.
Edwin can BANNNNGG!!!! I think when it all comes down to it, Edwin has had a harder life and fought through it.
Those guys are unbelievable man!

yeah EV is the man no doubt! i love his record, his style, his power, BUT........ ive seen few of his fights and the opponents well they aint exactly the level that would impress you either bro. i mean no ones dying to go to japan to become a star LOL. yeah only if it werent for the injury we could see how he'd do against REAL tough opposition.

FAT FAT FAT FAT Pig James Toney

Re: Who is the most Boring Boxer Today? zzz
John Ruiz is one. Lennox Lewis. Rocky Juarez is too lazy. Jeff Lacy, overrated maybe thats why I expect too much from him and he dissapoints me. Bernard Hopkins is so cautious. Antonio Tarver plays through his opponents pace. But I dont think PBF is boring. He is fun to watch. Because at the very start you know he wont KO his opponent. All you expect is to school the opposition.

Calderon I haven't seen.
Winky Wright gets a bad rap because fe is a defensive fighter but he presses every single fight he is in. The Taylor fight was actually a really exciting fight and it was because of the pace that Wright set. He dictated that fight.
Floyd Mayweather is just spectacular. Jaw dropping. He may not be a "blood and guts warrior" but he is just a marvel to watch. His skills are exciting. His personality in the ring doesn't hurt either.
Hopkins, modern day, I can agree with. Uses more method and his head then anything else to win. Still wouldn't miss a fight of his if I could though.

Re: Who is the most Boring Boxer Today? zzz
I like to watch Floyd fight for the most part although the Baldo fight, the second Castillo fight and the Sosa fight were snoozers. Mostly I think he's fun to watch though. A lot of the time he fights in a similar way to Toney, at least IMO. I don't see how anyone could think Toney is boring.
Calderon's great to watch IMO.
Hopkins is one of my favorite fighters, he used to be amazing to watch. Now I can see why some don't like watching him fight, it is a bit too much throw the right hand lead, duck in, grapple. But check out the Echols fights, the Glen Johnson fight, pretty much anything up to and including the Tito fight.
I'm a bit in the middle on Winky. I don't love watching him fight, its a bit repetitive, not as flexible a fighter as a Mayweather or a Toney but I do like watching him a lot more than some people do. He does usually make the fight, why he was the boring one in the Taylor fight is beyond me. It must just be a lack of power cause Taylor was more negative in that fight than Winky, and is more boring in general IMO.
For most boring fighters, a lot have been mentioned. Audley, Amat's two picks were good with Reyes and Ramos. I'd throw in Koba Gogaladze, seriously you die a little bit everytime he's on TV. Terrence Cauthen, I like boxers but he literally doesn't throw punches. Juan Urango just bores the shit out of me, yes he "makes" the fight but he does it by walking forward and throwing one punch every 25-30 seconds. I'm sure I could think of others but I'll go with those for now.
-
Re: Who is the most Boring Boxer Today? zzz
I think Zab Judah is boring he has the skill and talent to be great but no heart and no desire and he takes all his skill for granted....Floyd Mayweather Jr. does just enough to win sometimes and it pisses me off but I can't blame him due to his hand issues and the fact he just doesn't have power at 147....when he does throw combos he does pretty good

I wouldn't go far as to say Winky is a boring fighter but I wouldn't say he is one of the most skilled either. Holding his gloves up in front of his head and taking potshots at his opponent most of the time doesn't take much skill to do and it even seems one dimentional, though definitely they're effective and that what matters - you've got to give him credit for that. You only need long and strong arms, and be a bit 'barefaced' ;D to do it.
-
Re: Who is the most Boring Boxer Today? zzz
I wouldn't say PBF is boring at all but his fights at 147 certainly have been. Other than that though,he's had quite a few good fights and the beat downs he gave to Ndou and Gatti are awesome!
Calderon has been getting boring as of late because I'd like to see him fight someone worth while but usually, his skills are a marvel to watch.
I don't know,Winky, umm,I watch his fights when they come but it's from a technical standpoint rather than for excitement,I don't know, there's an appeal there.
Bernard,I enjoy B Hop's fights even when he slowed down late rin his career. He methodically breaks down his opponents and is constantly thinking,a true master tactician so again,a bit like Winky, there is an appeal there because I like thinking fighters as well as blood and guys type fighters too.
Most boring...hmmmmm.....umm,I'll come back to that because I don't really know of any fighters that I think are really boring apart from the ones already mentioned!

Anyone who punches and falls into holding as they lunge forward with their shot, over and over again.
