Taylor fighting Mora next?
Dibella said a Mora fight "is a strong possibility. The guy can box his ass off, he's undefeated as a pro, he's world ranked all over the place, he won the contender and he's a celebrity so he's definitely a viable option for Jermain's next fight."
That's on www.boxingtalk.com. Mora also invented paper. He is well known and very beatable so I guess its a good move by Dibella, and I wouldn't be surprised if it happened. Mora might actually be slightly underrated because of the contender thing, but he's not beating Taylor.
-
Re: Taylor fighting Mora next?
If anything mora's overrated. I can't wait for taylor to brng him back down to earth. Everyone talks about manfredo like he's garbage but you need to realize b4 the contender he was ranked 3rd in the world and undefeated.
-
Re: Taylor fighting Mora next?
I don't know much about Mora except he has a big mouth!! Is this a good fight for JT? I'd prefer to see a Winky fight but it seems less and less likely.
-
Re: Taylor fighting Mora next?
No its a bad fight for Jermain. Mora is actually a very underrated body puncher and as much as people hate on him for his mouth he has skills. I don't think this would be a good fight for Taylor ESPECIALLY if Mora can take his punches.
-
Re: Taylor fighting Mora next?
mora has decent boxing skills but nothing that could give taylor any trouble. taylor early ko.
-
Re: Taylor fighting Mora next?
mora is extremely overrated.
i cant Stress the word EXTREMELY enough.
He bunny hops into all of his combo's, a good boxer will catch him with it, and send to the canvas.
archak termeliksetian did it to him early in the fight, and archak does not have the power JT does. There will be no Phoney "toe the line" bullsh!t, JT will put him on his ass, and his career on ice.

If almost nobody thinks he's any good, then I don't see how he's overrated.
Everybody thinks of him as a joke cause of the contender, but he's a decent fighter. I don't think he's necessarily a good fighter, and he's not beating Taylor, but I don't think he's as bad as some people make him out to be. I think its a more competitive matchup than Calzaghe-Manfredo, although that's not saying a whole lot.
-
Re: Taylor fighting Mora next?
After the Ouma fight I am thinking less of Taylor. I think Mora could give him some problems as long as he can take Taylor's punches. Mora is still too green to have a good chance, but I think Mora will cause Taylor some problems. Especially if Taylor keeps going backwards for no reason.
-
Re: Taylor fighting Mora next?
You cant blame peope like Taylor and Calzaghe for wanting to fight these contender guys though. They can get more money and more exposure for fighting Mora or Manfredo than someone who is better than them because they are names. They're well known to a wider audience than most boxers. Why take a harder fight for less money and less recognition?
-
Re: Taylor fighting Mora next?
I'm not a Mora fan, but he will be more competitive with Taylor than Ouma. Ouma does move his head at all and he wins by swarming and strength. Taylor might lack skill, but the guy is a physical speciman. At least Mora moves his head, has a little elusiveness, and can counterpunch a little bit. If Taylor can't KO him, he won't look pretty in getting his decision.
-
Re: Taylor fighting Mora next?
Taylor will be under huge pressure to get a K.O in this fight .
I think/hope he gets it
-
Re: Taylor fighting Mora next?
Can't explain exactly why but Sergio Mora is one of my favourite fighters. I reckon the kid has real skills and a warriors heart.
Taylor hasn't knocked anybody out for a couple of years and if he can't put Ouma down despite hitting him almost at will I doubt he will find Sergio easy to get out of there.
I think if this fight does take place that Sergio will prove a lot of people wrong.
He probably won't be able to win but I reckon he could give as good an account against Taylor as Maliggnaggi did against Cotto.
Remember how before the Cotto fight EVERYBODY hate Maliggnaggi, he was on a par with Tarver and Ruiz in the hate stakes. After the Cotto fight virtually everyone now respects the guy and he's considered a really tough, gutsy fighter.
I think Sergio Mora could see a similar switch in public opinion following a fight with Taylor.

Re: Taylor fighting Mora next?
Paulie gets too much respect" >:mad ;D
-
Re: Taylor fighting Mora next?
I dont think many people are saying they hate Mora, its generally agreed that hes a decent fighter but overrated. He wont be a walkover but for someone whos beaten the likes of Hopkins and drawn with Winky there doesnt look to be much chance of a loss to Mora.
-
Re: Taylor fighting Mora next?
Can't wait to see the 'latin PRICK' knocked the fook out of there! And bye bye to '0'!

Re: Taylor fighting Mora next?
Calzaghe has been slagged off to hell for fighting a contender to try and get a name from him self in the us, now taylor is linked with one when hes already been having paydays of around 8 mill and not one bad word said about him???? he has said many time MW is a struggle for him to get to, people say he is a 'monster' at MW, said he wants calzaghe then is linked with this guy?
seriously WTF???

I'd have to agree,at least JC's is a smart picec of business, what exactly is JT earning from taking this fight. CC,good post. If Taylor is struggling to make the weight, move up and fight JC or take a tune up at the new weight in order to prepare for JC! Is Mora a better name to have on the resume?

They were talks of Taylor and Mora before Taylor and Calzaghe, I remember hearing rumours before Calzaghe and Lacy.

But who has Calzaghe fought in the league of Hopkins and Wright? He took them two VERY hard fights back to back, then followed by another tough cookie in Ouma he deserves an easier fight. Im sorry guys beating Lacy then Bika comes no where near to beating Hopkins twice, a draw with Wright and beating Ouma.

Excellent counter argument but the point still stands,if JT is struggling with the weight and wants to fight JC somewhere down the line, signal your intentions, move up,fight someone and then take on JC. Hey he may very well fight Mora, move up, and fight JC. One thing about Taylor, the guys ducks no one and he must be commened for his attitude!Too true though,Taylor is on a hot streak but I still think Calzaghe beats him!

If I inadvertantly plagerized Merchant, damn, I feel like an ass :) If Merchant said something similar, for once, he was right. I've though that about Taylor for a long time. CC for a funny crack on me :)

That's because his last four fights are Hopkins, Hopkins, Wright, and Ouma. Joe C's last 4 are Veit, and Ashira, Lacy, and Bika, and now, he's scheduled for Manfredo. Hmmm, I sense a slight difference in quality of opposition :)
JT is going to need one more fight before Joe C, cuz Joe is going to break his hand on Pete's head. That will need time to heal. In the meantime, Jermaine can make a buck beating up Mora. What's wrong with that?
-
Re: Taylor fighting Mora next?
JT would need a warm up at 168 before fighting Calzaghe....at least I would see that as the safe way to go. I think a fight with Bika or Froch would be a good step up and those are winnable fights IMO taking advantage of a guy who can't box but only apply pressure and a young guy who hasn't been tested but Froch is dangerous for Taylor....the thing about 168 is you're either a bum or you're a dangerous fighter, there is no inbetween right now.
I think Taylor does better for his career fighting at 160 until a younger 168 pounder gets up there, perhaps Kessler or even Lacy or Green. Taylor has Abraham, Miranda, and Pavlik at 160....Froch, Kessler, Green, and Lacy aren't going anywhere anytime soon.
The big question is what does a win or lose to Calzaghe mean for Taylor
-
Re: Taylor fighting Mora next?
I hope the Snake ktfo of JT!
-
Re: Taylor fighting Mora next?
I hate Mora almost as much as I hate Valuev....he's got no power but like Paul Malinaggi he acts like he could chop down King Kong if he was put in the ring with him. Those guys are arrogant pricks and I despise them.
JT has respect for fighters and although he doesn't always fight smart he always fights with heart and with a respect for the sport and that includes the man he's in the ring with.
-
Re: Taylor fighting Mora next?
I don't think he is overrated. He can give anybody a good go of it. His showing off could get him knocked out though. too much of a show off.

Your kidding right?
Ouma, showed the definition of heart on that fight, end of every round he would run back to his corner, get off his stool early, and ALWAYS moved forward, even when being hit at will. What or who has mora faced that shows heart, or better yet, a stronger chin than Ouma?
As a matter a fact, getting floored in the first round against archak termeliksetian because he likes to hop like lil bunny foo foo, which will get him a 1 way ticket to the canvas against taylor.
-
Re: Taylor fighting Mora next?
He got up and didn't make that mistake again and dominated Termeliksetian after that. Didn't he stop Termeliksetian? Powell couldn't could he? ;)

Re: Taylor fighting Mora next?
So typical American. He is fighting old guys or small guys but why is taylor not fighting a guy like kessler? Oh, I forgot, he could loose and most likely Kessler would smasch him like a tomaato.

Can Kessler fight Taylor over here in the US then?
-
Re: Taylor fighting Mora next?
Jermaine Taylor is a heck of a fighter. And the way he is going he will be great someday, but he does have the same tendency as a guy who is a great fighter -Thomas Hearns. They both make easy fights hard by making the fights into wars. Taylor gets hit too much since he is always trying to knock the guy out and his last fight was harder than it should have been. The guy hit Taylor a little and busted his face up a little. Just reminded me of Hearns yet Hearns had a better right hand then Taylor has.. Hearns did the same thing as Taylor is trying to knock a guy out and giving up defense to do it. Warrior mentality makes for a good fight and give them credit, but that wears guys out although Hearns sure had a long career.. Hearns is a legendary fighter but alot of his fights which were meant to be easy were harder because he fought guys with good chins who wouldn't go down. So Hearns would almost try his hardest to knock them out and give the other guy a chance to reach his chin since he would back up and try lining the guy up and the guy would clock him sometimes. Jermaine has the same problem. I am not comparing Jermaine to the great Thomas Hearns, but he has to be more defensive. Hearns did get defensive when he was fighting better guys. I was always more confident when Tommy fought better guys like Leonard and Hill than with guys like Kinchen or Olajide. Since Hearns always tried to knock the lesser guys out.

CC. Beat me to it. That's not a good argument, I don't like the fight, but you can't compare Taylor to Calzaghe. Taylor's young, in 26 fights he's fought Hopkins twice and Winky once. Joe's old and is just flat out wasting time.

He said typical American? Fighting smaller guys? Alright so then he justifies it by saying Kessler who is HUGE for a Super Middleweight and could probably fight at 190 and be effective wants him to fight Jermain Taylor who would struggle to fight at 175 little less 168. Yeah diss Taylor for fighting old guys and smaller guys and then say that Kessler should fight him when thats all you find on his record ::**

i wasnt slating taylor lol... but tbh tho mate, he is a monster at 160, would make 168 easily and would be fine at 175.. i dont think 175 would be hard for him to make at all, hes like 6ft 1? naturaly big, said for along time 160 is so hrd for him to make..

Taylor says that its no problem for him to make 160 which is why he came in 158. But I wasn't addressing you I thought you made a good point, it was the other guy I was talking to

And what ways would that be? Guess you are refering to "outpricing". Thing is Kessler is the one who's actually willing to make an offer. Noone want's to make Kessler an offer (he might accept it).
So before you start putting all the blame on Kessler - Let's hear what other's are prepared to offer him. (Zero, Zip, zilch is my guess)

where i have highlighted is my point. Its that statement that u are forever saying makes me wonder if you live in a dream world. When good fighters who are trying to make a name for them selfs offer big fighters fights, they dont waste their time offering crap for them to come to their country, coz end of it aint gunna freaking happen. Kessler com sout in public saying he is number 2 p4p second only to mayweather, says he will fight anyone everywhere, but offers people like calzaghe and lacy fights in DENMARK then crys about the fact that they don't counter offer
Don't work like that, when your trying to make a name for your self you'll make a fighter an offer he can't refuse, to fight them on their terms - if kessler publicy came out and offerd the likes of lacy and calzaghe the fight where ever they want, close to or over their craeer high pay day, then that would put them right under the spot light - The likes of Calzaghe, taylor if he moves up ar enot going to fight Kessler in denmark ever, coz the don't need him plain and simple.
