man that John Mugabi had an iron clad jaw,and balls of steel ;D
ps...so did hagler ;)
I don't know what Hagler had in his chin, it certainly wasn't bone! :o
He must be a cyborg or something!!!! :army:
Mugabi showed his toughness too, but I do think he benefitted from the fact that Hagler had lost a lot of his speed by '86.
Hagler missed a lot of punches & I believe the Hagler of 1980 would have destroyed Mugabi inside 5 rounds.
thing i dont understand that mugabi looked really tough there but then after didnt he get sparked out in 1st round by terry norris and gerald mc ??
Mugabi could fight, Micky Duff had a big bet on him to beat Hagler, having had Sibson and Finnegan in with him fanceid it big time. The thing was Mugabi wasnt a good trainer according to his trainer George Francis, it makes you wonder what he could have been if he was. That fight made me realise what a great fighter Hagler was.
ICB , by that time he had a STD which was rife, Oh the good life doesnt seem to be the ideal
cheers for that stavros :)
Al the truth
Noris didn't, but GMac hit way harder than Hagler.Quote:

* WBC Light Middleweight Title

* Time: 2:47
* Judges: Ladislao Sanchez, Angel L. Guzman, Alberto Perez
A left hook approximately forty seconds in to the bout staggered Mugabi badly. A quick follow up barrage, finished with a left hook knocked Mugabi down shortly thereafter. Mugabi rose in bad shape, staggering into the referee and pulling his mouthpiece out while the two fighters were seperated. They then battled for another two minutes with Norris unable to finish Mugabi. As the round neared it's end, Norris landed a right hand to Mugabi's jaw which sent him down and out along the ropes.
Hagler Cracked me up in that highlight... I think he landed just as many punches to Mugabi's squash as he did to his head :o LOL!!
I don't know about way harder, he was a heavier puncher than Hagler, but Hagler was a crisper ,sharper puncher than the G-MAN. Also remember that this was Hagler on the down slide of his career and don't think that Hagler didn't ruin Mugabi in this fight. The Beast was never the same after this fight.Quote:

nah i dont think so mugabi trained hard and was very up for that fight hagler was still excellent in 1986 i still think if mugabi would of fought hagler in 1985 he would of gone 10 roundsQuote:

He had a nose injury in sparring training for Mugabi,, and the fight was postponed from November 1985, to MArch 1986. And Marvin came in a little less toned than with Hearns. I just think he lost a little motivation after Hearns. He put his all out with Hearns and I think he satisfied something. With Mugabi then he had another fight where he was hit hard and by the time Leonard fought Marvin another year after Mugabi, I think Marvin was a shell. I could be wrong. Marvin retired at the right time.
Also if you watch that fight you notice how Marvin whose punches are usually so sharp. was looping his left hand toward Mugabi. it was not straight. He just did not have his sharpness that night. Yeah Mugabi was a hell of a fighter, but Marvin was not up for the fight much. No excuses, but everyone says Mugabi got the fight knocked out of him by Hagler, well that might be but Mugabi then lost to Duane Thomas and Norris. I would think he would have had a little more in the gas tank. He lost to a legend in Hagler, but he put up a great fight....
Does nebody happen to have this fight in full?... would appreciate... one the great ones u know
I think Marvin for the Mugabi fight was slower and inactive. He had not fought since the Hearns fight in April 1985 when he put out his all and was in fantastic shape. And I think then he had his nose broken in sparring and had to have the fight postponed, which then he probably did not spar much to protect the nose which is what I heard and he was inactive. He did not look good at all with Mugabi. but that does not mean John did not put up a good fight, He did. Marvin's last good shape fight was Tommy Hearns.
