Allen Green. 2007 his year?
There's a surprising lack of excitement and seemingly fans of Allen Green, I really wonder why, he's a big puncher, he's undefeated and he's really good to watch, yet there's it seems there's little interest in him. Do you think he's got what it takes to win a title next year? I do!

I don't know, there really isn't that much depth at SMW in my opinion right now
So he definately could move up, maybe try bangin with Kessler or Summat,
I don't think Joe C. would give him a shot though.

I was impressed initially with all the things you mentioned, then I saw him get TKO'd by Donny McCrary in his home town and the ref let him continue.... I dont fault Green for that but he showed heart by getting up and KOing McCrary. Made me question his chin and ability to take a good punch though so I think if he steps up the Comp and shows up big this year he could be the real deal..
To me a Green vs Manfredo fight is a more appropriate fight than Calzaghe vs Manfredo but I think a fighter like MAnfredo class would be a step up and would be a good Barometer to see were Green is headed if anywere..
Also I think people are a little more cautious about Building up a fighter especially after many feel Jeff Lacy was Overhyped(I dont feel that way I think Jeff will be fine) but atleast Jeff has proven his power, chin and heart against good comp... Green still has too ;)
Re: Allen Green. 2007 his year?
Yeh i think he'll do alright for himself this coming year!
Definately think that joe's ex ibf title is his best shot but im certainly not saying he doesnt have enough to beat kessler i think he could pull that off.. would give joe a fight but im not sure whether hes sorted out defense issues he's developed in recent fights?!.. plus bieng an undefeated knockout artist prospect is certainly good news and is a very likely candidate to fight for a vacant ibf title..
Peace

yeah...he was out on his feet....hopefully he learned never to let up or underestimate his opponents....if he learned from this fight then I think he will make a spash soon....if not..he will become a...who were we talking about again....
Re: Allen Green. 2007 his year?
Don't say that name man! Its a jinx!
Re: Allen Green. 2007 his year?
I fancy him to win a SMW belt this year. Very good fighter is Allen Green! CRACKS like a mofo!
Re: Allen Green. 2007 his year?
IMO, in his last fight he looked like crap....
He didn't look hungry and or in need of a win it was as if he was content with moving along to the pace of the fight.... I just didn't see it in him that night....
IMO, he should fight the winner of Soliman vs. Mundine.... ;)

I agree about his last fight. I think that about most of his fights. I've never been very high on him at all. He can punch, nice left hook. But his defense is crappy and his chin is questionable, and he's arrogant to a fault inside the ring, he just gets careless.
Re: Allen Green. 2007 his year?
I think he has a great chance IF given the opportunity. I dont think that the current belt holders will looking for him anytime soon. Joe definitely wont fight him, Kessler would but only in Denmark, his best chance will be a vacant strap.

Agree with you two guys,I'm not sold on him at all although I have only seen like 3 of his fights. He has power and showed heart in last fight but the things Ouma mentioned stood out more to me.
Re: Allen Green. 2007 his year?
He's pretty entertaining to watch and I think he'll be challenging for a title soon. Not sure if he'll get a shot in 2007 though.
I'm hoping guys like Carl Froch and Lucien Bute will get a shot ahead of him.
To be honest though with the smw division set to fragment into 4 crowns again he could well win a belt next year if he can get a shot.

Why on earth should Allan Green gets a titleshot in 2007? He has done nothing so far.
I could mention at least ten guys who could defeat Green in SMW. Everytime a fighter is from America a lot of people think that he must be the next Ali.

Nobody mentioned anything about Green being anything close to Ali. IF you can actually read, go back through the posts and you will read that everybody is just saying that he has a chance at a belt next year. sc

Against who does he get a chance to win a belt? Calzaghe or Kessler? ???

If it makes financial sense, Kessler will travel.
But i don't see Green as being up there.
Re: Allen Green. 2007 his year?
Kessler is a much better fighter with a lot brighter future then Green imo. But, styles make matchups and it would be a matchup of two tall straight power punching super middleweights. Of all the fights at 168, other then Kessler - Calzaghe, that might be the most intriguing fight in all the division
The problem is, I can't pick Green beating any of the strap holders. Why the guy has the world beater talk to him I have no idea. He is SO inconsistent it's impossible for me to get excited for him. He either looks spectacular or he looks bad. Can't pick an inconsistent fighter to win a title.
Re: Allen Green. 2007 his year?
Hey Amat, not seen him fight - whats his amateur pedigree like?
Did he get any honours?

I'm probably the last person you would want to ask about someone's amatuer days but I did know that he was a Golden Glove champion and a quick trip to Wikipedia brought me this.
Quote:
Green had a stellar amateur career despite not making the Olympic Games, winning the 2002 National Golden Gloves, at 178 lbs, and compiling a 55-6 record. During the 2002 Golden Gloves tournament Allan beat Mike Tyson's two decade old 8 second knockout record. He also was five time Oklahoma state champion, and four time regional champion, before coming pro at age 23.

Since the IBF stripped Joe of their belt then if given the opportunity then he has a chance at it.
