Demetrius Hopkins vs. Ricky Hatton
OK.... So D-Hop just won a 'Eliminator' ::** bout against Castaneda.... for a shot at the IBF Ligh Welter. title
Meaning the winner of Urango vs. Hatton.....
Being that everyone (including me) thinks Hattons gonna and is suppose to blow Urango out in no time....
Wadda' ya guys make of D-Hop vs. Hatton? Can D-Hop with stand someone attacking his body & and someone trying to smother him against the ropes? Or can Hatton beat someone who won't stand still & will be using the entire ring to move and try to outbox him.
I know everyone want's to see Hatton vs. JLC, but I wouldn't mind seeing D-Hop vs. Hatton I think it would make for an interesting match up... Whats you take on this?

i think d-hop might be payed to stand aside for hatton to fight castillo first - i cant really say to much aabout the fight tho, but from the very few highlights i seen of d-hop i think hatton exp and preasure will be ay to much for him - i have seen very little, butd-hop is still learning, and i think a step up to hatton at Lw would be way way to much for him, and an early stoppage

Re: Demetrius Hopkins vs. Ricky Hatton
To be honest, when I saw D-hop on the undercard of that JMM fight, I wasn't overly impressed, but then again that is the only time I have seen him in action. On that performance alone, I think Ricky outworks him and swamps him with the usual barrage of fairly accurate punches which win him the bout.

Thanks for your feedback..
Well I think D-hop is really ready to step up with the big boys.... Wether it's Hatton or any other belt holder it's time for him to put up or shut up...

Re: Demetrius Hopkins vs. Ricky Hatton
I like Demetrius, bit of a huge jump in competition though. Maybe a Hopkins-Vivian Harris fight would be better.

Re: Demetrius Hopkins vs. Ricky Hatton
D-Hop would and could outbox Hatton.

Yeah, hell even if he had fought Emanuel Augustus it would have been better.. I think Dhop needs to take it slow, he had a bit of a tough time with Warrick a couple fights ago, I didn't see his latest fight but regardless he should be climbing the ranks legitimately.. I think people assume things about him because his last name is Hopkins, not just talking about him for it... Who knows how well he really uses the ring or how effectively/smart he can box against a real contender.... Ive only seen I think 3 of his fights, Ramos, Warrick, and an earlier one... Well they were all somewhat dull fights honestly, and I can't say anything overly impressed me about him.. The only thing that can be said is indeed that he is patient and doesn't take risks, but that could also lead to him having no answer for a high volume fighter who can attack effectively. He doesn't seem to like leading the action or setting a decent pace.. Hatton for sure would be too much for him imo.

Re: Demetrius Hopkins vs. Ricky Hatton
D-Hop has great skills but at this point in his career, I could see Hatton grabbing, hugging, mauling, and breaking D-Hop's will. D-Hop has a little trouble making 140 too, a body puncher like Hatton will make it a very rough night for D-Hop. D-Hop is great when he's got space to setup punches, Hatton will just crowd him all night. Hatton UD 12.

Re: Demetrius Hopkins vs. Ricky Hatton
Too bad Witter pulled out a while back, I was looking forward to Hopkins giving Witter a serious beat down. !D- Hop vs Hatton. I see it like this .D- Hop would be overwhelmed by the constant pressure of Hatton, Ricky comes to fight, all 3 min of every round, he give you no rest , no quarter. would be a great watch .
Hatton win va 10th TKO O0

Re: Demetrius Hopkins vs. Ricky Hatton
Basically echoing the same thing as everyone else here, that body would give Hatton a big target. Hatton wouldn't look D-Hop in the eye all night. D-Hop is good, and he's going to have a good career I do beleive but I think it's to much to soon for him right now. You can't go from Mario Ramos to Ricky Hatton in a couple short fights.

Well said HAtton would never be a walk in the park for none. D-hop has great development he should ask his uncle first if he is ready for big time.
-
Re: Demetrius Hopkins vs. Ricky Hatton
i think if D-HOP steals some of his uncle's shady moves that would help such as headbutting, clinching and holding, jabbing the testicles when the refs not looking, and BORING everyone to death.
-
Re: Demetrius Hopkins vs. Ricky Hatton
VERY bad fight for D-Hop right now. Hatton would be far too much for him to handle at this early stage, dont get me wrong i am really impressed by D-Hop but there is a VERYYYYY small chance of him pulling this off IMO. Hatton stoppage 5th.

that's just great experiance and cunning that shows when he holds the head with the left and uppercuts with the right or clinches with the left and hits with right hands in the hips and the arse.. Love to watch the crafty devil!!

Re: Demetrius Hopkins vs. Ricky Hatton
Hatton would be to much for Hopkins,He would overwhelm him and work his body till he quit.
-
Re: Demetrius Hopkins vs. Ricky Hatton
Take away the Hopkins surname and what we got left?
Torres, Witter, M'Baye, Harris would all stop this kid right now.

Witter is shit ! a posing ass clown not to mention stylistically boring as all fuck in my opinion ! In fact Witter pulled out of a match a month or so ago with D -Hopkins . ;)

Witter is S*** ! a posing a** clown not to mention stylistically boring as all F*** in my opinion ! In fact Witter pulled out of a match a month or so ago with D -Hopkins . ;)
Apart from that first sentence, I will probably agree with you, but Witter is not s***e. While he will never really be a great champion, or even a great entertainer, you don't make it where he's made it without some semblance of talent, and it's not as though Hopkins has been beating contenders (pardon the pun, and pardon Norberto Bravo) so far in his career, he needs the big names even more than Witter does IMO.

Re: Demetrius Hopkins vs. Ricky Hatton
I see a lot of you are dismissing D-Hop very easily....
I actually think he has a good shot at Hatton.

He moves well inside the ring, and he has come along well in his career. Hes beat some tough vet's. who have ruffed him up in the ring a bit. Hes managed to use his skills and win fights. I think he/GBPE should make their move now and go after Hatton.
-
Re: Demetrius Hopkins vs. Ricky Hatton
I don't think Demetrius is enough like his uncle to beat somebody as good as Hatton.
-
Re: Demetrius Hopkins vs. Ricky Hatton
Hatton has this one, in a few years when Hatton degrades if D-Hop is still improving it may change my opinion, but definately not yet.
-
Re: Demetrius Hopkins vs. Ricky Hatton
I'm talking about the moving up & down in weight, I mean doesn't he walk around at like 170 lbs. or so? ??? I'm talking about his last performance thats got to be on his mind... And the pressure of beating Urango in style and making a statement.
-
Re: Demetrius Hopkins vs. Ricky Hatton
I don't know about Ricky's habits ? but your right. ballooning up in weight and coming down, it take a toll on the body. and over time the adverse effects will show up. a world class fighter will stay in the neighbor hood of his fighting weight within 7 to 10 lbs all the time. thus the majority of his training camp can be spent on boxing related training , and strategy, rather then weight loss being the focus. my thinking is while a fighter is at the top.. he need to be serious about this , make that money now. be serious... plenty of time later to pack on the pounds eat good food and smoke them cigars. after you retired.
take James Toney for example.. he was at 210 lbs a few weeks before the Jones fight many years back . James had to lose all that weight and was weak as shit fight night . a fight that he would have been more competitive in, if only he wasn’t juggling around with the weight issue the whole time. O0

So what you're suggesting is that Hatton should go down the toney route, and just fight at his walking around weight which would probably be at light heavy or cruiser? It'd be interesting, but I doubt he'd have the all action style he does up at that weight.
-
Re: Demetrius Hopkins vs. Ricky Hatton
Or just get down to around 150 between fights.

no I am suggesting that Ricky's walking around weight should come down. Ricky should stay closer to his fighting weight. at 5"6, 147 -155 lbs should be where he hangs his hat in-between fights while he is an active boxer. I am saying put the pizza down until after you retire. ;)

Re: Demetrius Hopkins vs. Ricky Hatton
I was being a little mischievous there in my previous post, but I'm not convinced that he can discipline himself in that way, it ain't easy y'know. Saying I'll pig out in 2 months is easier than saying to yourself I'll pig out in 8 years time. Nevertheless, a bit more balance would suit him in between fights.
