Re: Wacko's Drunken Round by Round of Edison Miranda vs Willie Gibbs
the Litzau fight was an example of why people shouldn't bash Mayweather for fighting smart when he has the fight in the bag

Re: Wacko's Drunken Round by Round of Edison Miranda vs Willie Gibbs
Edison "Pantera" Miranda (27 fights with 26 wins, 1 loss, & 23 ko's) vs Willie "the Gladiator" Gibbs (21 fights with 20 wins, 1 loss, & 16 ko's) Round 1: Miranda came in unofficially at 173. Gibbs comes out hoping. He's the first to land with a jab to the body & then up top. Miranda answers back. Both men just trading the jab. That's about it. Straight left from gibs. Miranda's got the advantage with his jab. Miranda lands a jab to the body. Left hook by Gibbs. Right hand from Miranda. Gibbs doesn't seem to worried about the power right now. He's moving in on Miranda quite a bit. Miranda to the body. Double jab from Gibbs. Big right hand from Miranda. Left from Gibbs. Two jabs from Mirnada & hten a body shot. Miranda just hammered Gibbs & is all over him with a vicious right hand & down he goes. 10 count & GIbbs is done.
-
Re: Wacko's Drunken Round by Round of Edison Miranda vs Willie Gibbs
Gibbs just took the 10 count from the right hand...he thought that he had time or some shit...because he was out of it.
Very nice.

Re: Wacko's Drunken Round by Round of Edison Miranda vs Willie Gibbs
Thank you for covering the first round ;D A hard nights work ;) Just kidding :-*
But I think Gibbs was a second behind the ref. I'm a little sad though because I love Willie Gibbs too.

I hate it that Gibbs got sparked out...but honestly...I saw that shit coming.
He was out of it though...really out of it...even when he got up...he was out of it. He might have been a second behind...but he was a goner.

The fastes DRbyR ever.... 8)
-
Re: Wacko's Drunken Round by Round of Edison Miranda vs Willie Gibbs
I'm not a huge Miranda fan...but that was fun.
Here's the thing...if he wants to hanger a new fan...do what he did tonight to Gibbs...but do that shit to Jermain Taylor.
I want to see how Taylor handles adversity & power like that.
Taylor boxes on the backfoot like he did against Wright & Ouma...Miranda will knock him out.

Yeah but I still love Willie Gibbs and I hope he can still do something for boxing. I didn't like this fight because they are both two of my favorite fighters or some of them. I'm happy for Miranda but I'm sad for Willie Gibbs. I just hope he can still do something with his boxing career despite the setbacks.
I want to see him make a comeback I can cry over :)
For Miranda, I wish him the absolute best and I hope he can win a Middleweight title too :)

Re: Wacko's Drunken Round by Round of Edison Miranda vs Willie Gibbs
Anyone remember what weight they said Miranda was at tonight? It was pretty high up there. Also anyone know if he has trouble making middleweight limit?

It was a great showing for Miranda...but Gibbs is just too unseasoned of a fighter for a challenge like that.
I have a real good feeling that we'll be seeing Miranda strapped soon enough...maybe even against Abraham.
-
Re: Wacko's Drunken Round by Round of Edison Miranda vs Willie Gibbs
I don't think he will. But I have a feeling Gibbs will be back. Some fighter will pick him as a step up and Gibbs will knock him out.
-
Re: Wacko's Drunken Round by Round of Edison Miranda vs Willie Gibbs
I like Gibbs but it is impossible for me to root against Miranda. Happy for him.

173 unofficially.

CC Wack.
This one was kinda predictable although I wouldn't have bet on the first round. I don't know, I like Gibbs, but he just doesn't react all that well to getting hit. Back to the Edouard fight and Edouard's not that big of a puncher, definitely not compared to Miranda.

Indeed.
Thing is...I kind of expected that...just not so fast...like you.

Re: Wacko's Drunken Round by Round of Edison Miranda vs Willie Gibbs
CC Wacko--this was unexpected (the DRbR, not the results--except for the Litzau one).
This was a great end to a really great last 2 months of boxing. I love the technical boxing and will always rank those guys at the top of the p4p list (none of this Pac beats Winky and Floyd stuff for me), but tonight's card (as well as the Marquez and Pac-Morales fights) was extremely fun to watch. Wack, if you missed the first (televised) fight, definitely go back and see it. That thing was great for all 8 rounds it lasted. Litzau could conceivably step up the training on defense and come back strong in a few years--he clearly has the athleticism and speed. But that guy he was fighting had about the best chin I've ever seen!
And the Miranda fight.... That was the first time I've actually seen him, and that was extremely impressive. I'd love to see him against Jermain, and I would not be terribly surprised to see Jermain go down in that fight, possibly out (I'd pick Winky by a wide decision against Miranda though--I'd also pick
Winky by a minimum four-point spread if we ever got a Wright-Taylor II). If he gets a couple more like that on HBO first, he could become a very big draw too. (Still haven't seen the Abraham fight, but I figure Miranda must have a pretty good chin if he got outpunched by Abraham without ever looking close to going down.) Obviously didn't get to see much of him , but I like what I saw. Very much.
-
Re: Wacko's Drunken Round by Round of Edison Miranda vs Willie Gibbs
CC Wack, shortest RBR ever right? Certainly since I've ben here. I've liked Miranda's power for a while and having seen more of his fights plus this oe,I can say that I am a fan now! I'd like to see him against JT or Winky, both would be good fights because this guy can bang! I hope he KTFO Abrham first though,I thought Miranda won the first fight!aND i GIVE HIM MUCH more credit for that knowing that Miranda's fists broke Arthurs jaw.
-
Re: Wacko's Drunken Round by Round of Edison Miranda vs Willie Gibbs
And forgive me for saying this but I was SO SO SO HOPING LITZAU got KTFO and he did! He had a great war with Johnny Nalasco or whatever his name was and he was almost KTFO in that one too. After the fight,he was SO arrogant, saying something about being like SRL and Teddy Atlas told him to calm down! Litzau looked like a good fighter but he also looked really really chinny, his chin always in the air and although he had fast hands and power,he was always liable to get nailed himself. Also,he did this thing in the Nalasco fight where he would hold on to the ropes for some reason!????? Anyway,he himself said he was like a Malignaggi,a guy you'd love or hate and I definitely disliked the guy so ^-^ ;D
-
Re: Wacko's Drunken Round by Round of Edison Miranda vs Willie Gibbs
Malignaggi would probably have boxed in that situation instead of trying to impress the fans which is what got Litzau beat.
Litzau does the things that Mayweather haters say most boxers should do stand and fight and he just lost a fight he could have had in the bag. Doesn't matter the respect he got, he still got an 1 on his record now. I hope he learns what fighting for the fans get you. Thats probably why people get mad at Mayweather because he DOESN'T do that and removes all doubt to give an opponent a chance to land that ONE shot.

You ca't really say what Paulie would have done because the whole world thought he would have boxed Cotto too but he didn't. Also, that's silly to say Mayweather haters, may be it's just fans who want to see more action for their hard earned money. If you pay $50 to see fights, and the guy is earning $8million for the fight, you expect to see something first and second,he has no one to blame but himself for his critics,if you're going to compare yourself to SRR,SRL etc etc then of course there are going to be higher expectations from you.
Secondly, his antics after the fight hardly endear him to the fans with his silly crying and mood swings at Merchant. I mean 1 minute I see HBO team kiss PBF's ass then the next minute, everyone's dissing on Merchant when he's doing his job and asking the right questions.
Finally, what was most dissappointing about his performance was that ok,he landed a nice shot here and there but it was not a virtuoso performance. And you talk about not giving the opponent a chance but watch the Jesus Chavez fight, the Corley fight etc etc. He stood his ground in those fights. Just because I was not impressed by the performance does not make me a hatre, because I have justified my opinion.
Sorry that was a bit off topic,I'm about to watch the Litzau fight now!

I had some friends over randomly who don't watch boxing at all for the Nalasco bout, every single one of them hoped that Litzau would get his ass beat after hearing the interview at the end.

Yeah,I REALLY started to dislike him after that, there' nothing with confidence but his was arrogance and for what? What has he done? Hopefully this defeat brought him back down to earth! A good fighter but flawed.

Eventhough I was at the fight, thanks for doing the RBR for those who couldnt see it.
And does it seem like Miranda is starting to grow on you just a little?!?!? ;)
He really is a great guy and good for boxing, brings excitment.
I talked with Jim Lampley after the fight. In his opinion 'Abraham beats Taylor and Winky, and Miranda beat Abraham'.
Just an opinion, but I found it interesting that he thinks Abraham and Miranda are better than Winky and Taylor.

Couldn't you say the Chavez fight Mayweather did that because that was part of the plan to beat Chavez. And the Corley fight he stood there with Corley because that was his easiest way to get to Corley? In the Corley fight he did a little of both when he had to.
But people always bring up the Baldomir fight. And you bring up both the Chavez and Corley fight. Corley wasn't overwhelmingly big compared to Mayweather and Mayweather could impose his will on him when he had to. Baldomir on the other hand is naturally huge and Mayweather isn't a natural 147 pounder. So his plan was to make the fight as easy for himself as possible. Is he so wrong for making the fight easy for himself using the best strategy to beat someone like Baldomir? I don't think Corley or Chavez had the heart chin determination or natural size Baldomir had so Mayweather did what he had to do to win.
Could you agree with that?

Nice points but my point was that banging with Jesus a danger too right? Also,Corley shook him twice, yet PBF still decided to fight with him. Hell,at times,he stood toe to toe with Corrales and all the mentioned situations were dangerous for PBF. Also, like I said, he had won 11 rounds in a row,it would not have hurt to land a flurry here and there,Baldo was so slow and also, the camera went into his corner at round 11 and the round before and there was NO mention of an injury so I felt he used that as an excuse after the fight, acknowledging it was not as good a performance as it should have been against someone so limited. He was SO much faster than Baldo, that for him not to put his foot on the gas abit more is shocking! How would he have fought against a bigger more dangerous WW like Williams or Margarito?!
And I TOTALLY disagree that Jesus did not hae the heart,he showed alot of heart in the PBF fight,he showed heart to fight with broken hand in the Morales fight and if he comes back in Januray,he'll show heart again after the Levander tragedy.

I'm a big Margarito fan but in his last fight he didn't look more dangerous then Baldomir :'(

Wacko-
Eventhough I was at the fight, thanks for doing the RBR for those who couldnt see it.
I think he was just trying to make you feel good. Cuz it's not something he would say in public. I'll take Miranda over Abraham (who I think lost the fight) and Taylor. But I think he'll have the same problem Trinidad had against Wright

That's the thing though, would Miranda be as gun shy as Tito? I'd like to think not. As much as I love Winky's defence,I still believe that if someone hits hard enough, you can break through it and Miranda seems to hit dam hard!!! I was SOOOOOOO dissappointed in Tito,I thought his power would blast through Winky's arms!

Its not impossible Winky and Miranda will fight. If Miranda has a big name fight in Florida and wins maybe there would be enough interest in a fight between him and Winky that promises of a respectable purse makes the fight happen in Tampa or Hollywood.

I don't think it would be the same as with Tito cause that was not the same hungry young Tito of old. Miranda is still trying to prove his point and fights aggressively all the time like Tito used to. Another difference is that Tito has always been very clumsy on his feet and Miranda, although I wouldn't say he has great balance, is a little more steady on his.
