A clip of Oscar in action - one thing that stands out is Oscar's obvious height advantage and the leverage he can pull off in his hooks. He looks huge compared to Gatti during their Welter fight.
Floyd is arguably less powerful and perhaps the light-middleweight limit will allow a big Oscar into the ring - and knowing De La Hoya, he'll ensure the ring is not big as he pulls the strings.
Will Floyd's ring craft and superior defence keep him out of the danger zone? Oscar can certainly mix it up when he chooses to and is up against arguably his smallest opponent for years.
Props to Floyd for taking this on - he's gonna have a big fight on his hands thats for sure. One i'm struggling to pick.
I think either Floyd will steal a decision...or the ref will stop the fight as Oscar smothers him.
Does anyone else see this panning out differently to the above?
Could Oscar eek out a decision? if he can roll back the years and be aggressive, that's a possibilty.
I think perhaps it boils to Oscar's size..... or age.... winning or losing it for him.
With regards Floyd i would say it boils down to defence & Speed......or size difference...winning or losing it for him.
Their only common opponent is Gatti.
Oscar minced him up at 147 wheras Floyd did him at 140.
Oscar dropped him in the first round of their 2001 fight and stopped him in 5 rounds,
Floyd stopped him in 6 rounds - not that this tells us very much i suppose. We could think that Oscar fought a bigger, younger Gatti and stopped him quicker?
But then again Floyd put on an absolute clinic in his outing.

Ring size is a huge factor in this fight I would say its everything in this fight. ... a standard ring. would favor Oscar, Oscar would be able to cut it off. get his shots off and have better success following up on punches. . However in a large ring ( Fast Ring) , the type Floyd usually fights in ... its favors Floyd , It’s much harder to cut off. and gives Mayweather lots of Real Estate to pot shot and move , hampering Oscar's chance to set and fire
In a smaller ring 16-18 foot I favor Oscar, in a large ring 22-27 foot I favor Floyd..
Its really that simple IMO.

The only reason I could envision Oscar's power giving Floyd problems is because the power is in his lead hand. Oscar is left handed and carries the power in his lead hand meaning that Floyd isn't going to have the same amount of time to react to his punches. However, Floyd has been really good about avoiding lead punches his entire career and Oscar isn't going to be the fastest guy he's ever faced. Floyd has reflexes on par with the all time greats so I don't see Oscar having to much sucess with the left. IMO, it's going to be a battle of wits. Left hook or no left hook, Oscar is going to be there the whole fight so it's going to be adjustments on the fly the whole fly. IMO, the fight is so difficult to breakdown because the fight is going to take on a million different looks through the course of 12 rounds. It isn't your traditional speed versus power matchup, it's two of the smartest fighters in the game going at it with each posessing about an equal number of advantages.
As complex as it all is to me, I still think that Mayweather prevails. He's in his prime and no way is he going to be distracted going in. Oscar's the Golden Boy and PBF knows it.

I think it's gonna be Floyd very carefully boxing and putting emphasis on the body for the first half of the fight and after ODLH tires from all of his missed punches, Floyd will open up a bit more. The one thing that I will say is that in Floyd fights, he usually gets caught with one really good shot when he's backing up, and he usually brushes it off, I don't know if Floyd's beard is good at 154. If ODLH gets that one shot, it could be the difference.

Floyd's skill set makes him the best in the world. He trains harder than anybody, except maybe Ricky Hatton. He's got the best defense and reflexes in the game right now, his hand speed is very good, he's the best fighter in the world fighting when backing up or on the ropes, he's great in the pocket. He hardly gets hit. He's probably the smartest boxer in the world, well that might be an overstatement, JoeCal and B-Hop are very smart too. We could have everyone on Saddoboxing's forum chime in on Floyd's record and we'll have people that feel that Floyd is overrated, underrated, or just right. But the one thing I think that everyone can agree on, is that based on overall skills, Floyd is #1 in the world.
But since you brought it up, I'm very curious to see who you think is a great fighter in boxing right now. Enlighten me.

JMM isn't even the best fighter in his division. JMM will get thrown in the garbage by Manny Pacquiao again and MAB can even beat JMM. You're not making any sense.

The thing that is hard to compare their fights against Gatti is that he couldn't box when he faced ODLH at ALL, but he still managed to hit ODLH with clean shots, and yet he was totally helpless against Mayweather in all aspects.

I might be wrong but in my mind speed always seems to win against power if the speed is used by a good fighter. I am not sure Floyd can knock out Oscar, so my pick is Floyd by UD.. THe fight probably will not hurt Oscar's legacy since most people feel he is on the way down.

Like someone mentioned previously this fight is coming down to size...the size of the ring and the size of the fighters. Delahoya is obviously the bigger man and needs to use that size advantage to the best of his ability in this confrontation with Mayweather, who claims he will not run and will be coming forward to knock Golden Boy out. I seriously doubt he's serious about this claim and should definitely not make that the game plan. Floyd has to fight Oscar going backward and use the same lightning fast counterpunching combinations that he destroyed Gatti with. In a smaller ring, it's gonna be a lot easier for Delahoya to get to him and stay on him. It's a hard call to make because in my opinion both of these guys are great and it should be a hell of a fight. One thing I have always said is that I will trade punching power for speed any day of the week. Based on that, I am picking Floyd Mayweather Jr. by close decision, possibly a split one. One thing is for sure, GOLDENBOY (not DLH but the poster), you need a few grammar lessons dog!

I think that PBF will rock Oscar, granted Oscar will have power on Floyd, who doesn't? Oscar is a little older now, a little slower, and I mean look at what PBF did to Zab, a guy that was the closest to PBF in speed as anyone will get, and he made him look silly, I think a few years ago it would have been closer, Floyd will win this one, if he can limit how well Oscar lands his punches, if he can keep it down to a small number, he will outlast and outpoint Oscar.
I cannot wait for this fight, it is going to be one hell of a matchup

I don't think Floyd is overrated. I think that Oscar has trouble with movers who have good chins, like Mosley. I am not a fan of either Floyd or Oscar (I am not a hater either, just indifferent to them), but from what I have seen Oscar won't be able to catch Floyd, and he can't out speed him. Floyd by UD.

Oscar is a little older now, a little slower, and I mean look at what PBF did to Zab, a guy that was the closest to PBF in speed as anyone will get, and he made him look silly, I think a few years ago it would have been closer, Floyd will win this one, if he can limit how well Oscar lands his punches, if he can keep it down to a small number, he will outlast and outpoint Oscar.
I cannot wait for this fight, it is going to be one hell of a matchup
Floyd was troubled by Zabs speed early on . I think it was the first time he's met anyone faster than him but Zab wasnt as well schooled or disciplined so he started falling apart .That was probably one of Floyds finest performances cuz he had to comeback from a bad start . He was floored (not counted ) and outspeeded though he found the answers and so i'm thinking whatever Oscar brings or whatever problems Floyd faces , he'll overcome them against Oscar to gain control of the fight
We dont know exactly what Oscar brings to the table cuz he's been inactive and he is 2-2 in his last 4 fights ( 1 a damaging K.O defeat ) In his peak he was maybe abit quicker than Floyd but at this stage in his career he will be the slower man come fight night . He's spent the last few years trying to copy Floyds style and box with that shoulder roll which IMO doesnt suit him . Much better as the standard boxer . Floyd is a master at that style and will be showing Oscar how its done .
The Golden boy will be chasing shadows in this one on his way to losing a UD . I think the pretty boy will look special and he may get stunned afew times along the way but ultimatley this will be a convincing performance and we will have to accept he is p4p number 1 when he has finally beaten an elite operator .

ODLH has got the edge because it is at 154....eventually the reality sets in.....a good big man will beat a good little man.....PBF may be the best P4P fighter today, arguably ever, but there comes a time when you bite off more than you can chew....this is the time....I'm torn because these are my 2 favorite fighters fighting today....

Im really not saying this 'coz i disslike floyd and would love to see him get sparked out, coz i really do respect his talents. but right now i can't see anyway he beats oscar, i could be totaly off the mark here and get proven wrong.
Oscar may not be as fast as he was but he is still pretty damn fast, i think it would take floyd a good 8-10 rounds of getting alot of clean shots on the golden boy before they take effect, but to do that he will have to take a good few off oscar, and i think oscars hits will be the ones that matter. if he trys ot figt on the back foot and float in and out, he might pick up a few rounds, but floyd has never faced a guy like oscar before, where as Oscar as been in the ring with guys like Ike, shane and tito just to name a few, im sure his experience will be to much for floyd, and at 154 to high for him.
I think this will be sumin like oscar v hopkins, to great fighters, but not 1 way out of his weight limit.
but i give floyd all the fucking respect in the world for going up to 154. He could well be facing his first loss, by far his hardest fight yet, one that no one would think any less of him for nto taking due to the weight difference, fair play imo

No question Floyd is the younger, faster, and more talented fighter...especially at this stage of their careers. BUT, if this fight does in fact take place in a smaller ring...Floyd is taking a big risk. He has been stunned by much less powerful fighters than Oscar and while Oscar is no young buck, he still is a very strong and accurate puncher. Plus, Oscar has a chin...so he can come forward without great fear of being seriously hurt against the smaller fighter. If he can effectively cut the ring off, his punches will eventually wear down and hurt Floyd. If Floyd gets too cute and actually does trade...he can be in trouble. Otherwise, Floyd has the speed, conditioning, and accuracy to dance his way to a victory. It has the potential to be an exciting fight, but it has as much chance of being a boring one.

Floyd's skill set makes him the best in the world. He trains harder than anybody, except maybe Ricky Hatton. He's got the best defense and reflexes in the game right now, his hand speed is very good, he's the best fighter in the world fighting when backing up or on the ropes, he's great in the pocket. He hardly gets hit. He's probably the smartest boxer in the world, well that might be an overstatement, JoeCal and B-Hop are very smart too. We could have everyone on Saddoboxing's forum chime in on Floyd's record and we'll have people that feel that Floyd is overrated, underrated, or just right. But the one thing I think that everyone can agree on, is that based on overall skills, Floyd is #1 in the world.
But since you brought it up, I'm very curious to see who you think is a great fighter in boxing right now. Enlighten me.
i think right now a great fighter boxing is juan manuel marquez.
JMM isn't even the best fighter in his division. JMM will get thrown in the garbage by Manny Pacquiao again and MAB can even beat JMM. You're not making any sense.

I am not a pac nuthugger but Freddie Roach mentioned a number of times that he would like Pacman to fight MAB, JMM, Valero and Guzman. Money talks and the biggest purse at this moment would be a fight with MAB. JMM will definitely have his time with Manny as well the others mentioned.

I really can't pick this one, I do know how ever that Oscar is considerably more powerful than anyone floyd has faced, I don't know if Floyd can land enough punches on Oscar to win rounds because he's gonna be wary of the power, once he tastes some there's no doubt he'll be on the back foot. And will he be able to impress the judges that way, when its the Golden Boy he's running from? I just hope that Floyd's work will be scored correctly when he's going to have to box so negatively to win. There's little danger of that when he's fighting anyone else because he tends to make his impression early, then pushes out the wins with less and less punches needing to be landed, and the defense doing all the scoring for him. Obviously there's exceptions, like the Judah fight (My favourite Mayweather fight) but thats pretty much how he fights a big puncher.

The ring size will be so important for this fight. A big ring will, as many people have already mentioned, favor Floyd's speed and stamina. In a small ring, with a good/accurate puncher like Oscar, Floyd will eventually get hit (despite his great defense). Having seen Floyd stunned by lesser fighters is what makes me think if he tastes a solid punch from Oscar...he could get into trouble. Oscar is also excellent at finishing off a fighter who he has sparked. But in a big ring, i can see Floyd just using his speed to frustrate Delahoya.
