I haven't seen the Simon fight, but on Jim Boogie's thread it appears that Wright got the wrong end of a hometown decision in that one.
He was definitely raped by the judges against Vargas, so by that rational he has only lost to Julio Cesar Vasquez

The Harry Simon fight was a tight one , you really couldnt argue with. The vargas fight was a bad verdict, Wright won it by 4 rds
Simon could have gone either way. I haven't actually scored the fight but it was a tight fight. It was Simon's first fight back in Africa but I don't think the decision was to shady. Really was a close fight. Winky really was a different fighter back then though. The Vargas fight was a ripoff. He won that fight going away. 2 rounds at the very least. Most of the rounds were onesided and most of the time it was in favor of Wright. How they gave some of those rounds to Vargas should have been investigated.
That Vasquez fight IMO was also wrong... Sure he was knocked down a few times, but he won virtually every other round.
Some of the 10-8 rounds in the Vasquez fight could have been made 9-8
It would actually make it 10-9, but I am just re-downloading the fight, but it usually has to be a very decisive round for the person who was knocked down to get a 10-9 round out of the judges.Quote:

I don't mind making a round 10-9 even with a knockdown, I do it a lot more than judges do, but most of those were hard to call 10-9, Winky might have won the rounds except for the knockdown but he didn't totally dominate them. If you gave Vasquez credit for all the knockdowns there's no mathematical possibility that Winky could have won. You really would have had to been very liberal with your scoring to give Winky the fight. It was clearly a legitimate loss. But that was really a different Winky, he settled down as he got older, a prime Winky would have had no problems, even though Vazquez was a solid fighter.
Didn't he get knocked down 3 times in one round? at least I thought so anyways if that was the case then the most points he lost would be 5 if the other two times he was knocked down counted as 10-8 rounds. Thats five points, but if he wins 9 rounds its still 113-111Quote:

I agree although the losses were close,Wright could have decisions in them all EXCEPT the Vasquez fight,I don't think Wright won that but he has a different style back then. A great fighter though and has worked soo hard to get where he is so deserves respect.
You guys think anyone can beat Winky? JT in a rematch? Miranda? Abraham mught be a tough fight because of the styles maybe? Calzaghe?

The Simon fight was not that close...I have the fight on tape.
He won the Vargas fight...no doubt.
I think Miranda's made for Winky. Winky-Abraham would be kind of an akward fight but I think Winky would be more consistent with the jab and win. I thought Winky won the first JT fight and I'd favor him again but both JT could beat him. And Calzaghe too.Quote:

I don't know,I thought Winky won the first JT fight BUT had JT come forward more rather than backing up,he could have imposed his siez more and when he did let his hands go,Winky did back up.It was a close fight either way and Winky should take the rematch because even if it is an unfair split in favour of JT, Winky would get more for that than for any other match.
JC is an intriguing fight for me. Joe would give Winky angles he has not seen before. And the amount f leather he throws,each shot with power,could wINKY WITHSTAND THAT? I think JC would easily evade Winky's jabs and straight shots too and if the Quartey fight is anything to go by,Winky may be slightly more hittable.

I just watched the Vasquez fight, and in the second round Vasquez goes down with Winky punching him and the Ref doesn't rule it a knockdown yet the same thing happens like 30 seconds later and Winky is given the standing 8. Also I thought Winky did enough in the 8th to get a 10-8 round, and he did win every round he wasn't knocked down in IMO they were close, but he still definitely landed alot more, and that jab was spectacular along the whole fight.
I believe its the third knockdown of this fight, but Winky gets hit and it looks like one of the ko's where the guy is goes limp right after the hit, and I was like how the hell does he get up from this, but sure enough he did. He was really lean back in those days, and maybe he could take the punches as well... He certainly more a technical standpoint wasn't taking those punches back then as well as he does now.
