Re: Antonio Tarver: "Hopkins Will Have To Fight Me"
Im not Tarvers biggest fan, but I see no harm in him trying to shake off that beating from B Hop...with a couple of decent warm ups who knows....

Re: Antonio Tarver: "Hopkins Will Have To Fight Me"
Hopkins has already spanked his arse! This won't happen, Hopkins has the pick of basically anyone now, Tarver aint no where near a priority.

Re: Antonio Tarver: "Hopkins Will Have To Fight Me"
Tarver could be dangerous cuz he has long arms and a heavy punch . With a bit of discipline, a proper gameplan and self belief , Tarver could be a threat to men like Bernard . In that fight he wasnt even dangerous he was just totally outclassed and beaten in every dept . His heart seemed to leave him too and it appeared he was completely out of his depth .
Its hard to imagine him beating B-hop after that but what he needs to do is use teh advantages he does have to knock B-hop out of his rythm and make him look his age . Tarver doesnt enjoy fighting at pace like B-hop but he does throw punches in bunches like he did against Roy in the 1st fight . Keep that ramrod jab shooting out, slip Bernards lead and come back with a powerful southpaw left . Its ahuge ask cuz Bernard was so dominant 1st time round but Traver needs to take the fight by the scruff of the neck and force B-hop out of his comfort zone if he is to be successful . Otherwise he'll end up going the same way as last time but probably wont make it to the finish line .

Re: Antonio Tarver: "Hopkins Will Have To Fight Me"
Tarver looked absolutely dreadful in his fight with Hopkins. Although credit must go to B Hop for a dominating performance that was in no way Tarver at his best, or even close. He was a shell of his former self, he just had no energy whatsoever and was completely listless, like Danny Williams on a good day.
I certainly think he needs to get back in shape and redeem himself after that performance. He still has plenty to offer.

Well said, Bilbo...I thought I might be rather alone in saying Tarver deserves another chance :)

Nah mate, you've got me on your side, although as I'm usually in a minority of 1 maybe having me agree with you just highlights how eccentric and deranged your viewpoint is ??? :P

Yes , maybe that is the case. I am terribly eccentric and deranged. Maybe theses anonymous sad clickers are proving a point!! ;)

Re: Antonio Tarver: "Hopkins Will Have To Fight Me"
So Tarver was hurt by the weight loss? I've heard that before somewhere
As far as this goes, desperation is the only thing I can come up with. I'd like to see this about as much as I would like to see Byrd-Williamson 2. Tarver should try to get a fight with Adamek or somebody like that.

Re: Antonio Tarver: "Hopkins Will Have To Fight Me"
Hopkins wont fight him again. Bernard is old and really winding his career down. he will only look to mega mega fights that will cement his legacy which in my opinion is already cemented. He has already beaten the hell out of Tarver (who dont get me wrong is a good fighter) and doing it again wont prove anything more. Only way Tarver gets a shot is if he dominates one of the heavyweight champs and takes a title. And hes gonna have to do it real soon too because I dont see Hopkins fighting more than one or two more. I look for Hopkins to fight either for a heavyweight title if he can get Maskaev or to take on Calzaghe seein as Taylor doesnt get him first...

Re: Antonio Tarver: "Hopkins Will Have To Fight Me"
A rematch would prove nothing for B Hop and if he took the match,I'd massively disappointed especially as he is fighting for his legacy. I thought Tarver would have learnt his lesson by now,I honestly have never wanted to see someone get KTFO so bad!!! Someone please, anyone!! The person who does it should be guranteed P4P status! This is all fooking RJJs fault!!!

true. tarver was not the usual foul mouthed trash talking bitch
he usually is against nard want to see the tarver that KTFO of RJJ
people hate him but i really like his demeanor. and he has the tools
he just lacks the passion and desire on his last fights IMO

Yes, you are probably quite alone in thinking that he actually DESERVES anything but a kick in the teeth... However, you aren't alone in thinking he can still be a very good fighter and a threat to the elite at 175... But he has to earn it the hard way, that's what Id like to see him try and do which he really never has.. THen again, 175 is a very weak division so I certainly wouldn't object to his getting a tite shot against Adamek or something like that.. But he doesn't deserve a rematch with Hopkins unless he can accomplish something.. That is what he is stating he will try and do though, make a name for himself... So why not.

Re: Antonio Tarver: "Hopkins Will Have To Fight Me"
Oh so Tarver is using the weight excuse now ::**
He should be called Antonio "The Contradictor" Tarver!!!
He gives Roy bad press for wanting to fight Tyson.
Then Tarver wants to fight Tyson.
He gives Roy bad press for saying the weight effected him in his win against Tarver. Saying it was all him.
Tarver gets beaten badly by Hopkins and uses a weight excuse.
So much for no excuse Tarver.

Re: Antonio Tarver: "Hopkins Will Have To Fight Me"
Everyone in here probably knows I don't like Hopkins by now but damn, that 1st fight definitely doesn't warrant a rematch. Tarver looked scared, discouraged and he didn't make any adjustments. I've never been impressed with Tarver but I didn't think he was going to look that bad. Then again he looked extremely discouraged against Eric Harding in their first encounter and knocked him out in about 5 or 6 the second time around.

Re: Antonio Tarver: "Hopkins Will Have To Fight Me"
Haha, he must be wanting to catch him in the retirement home. Nard is old. He can count his remaining fights on his fingers. Tarver has a ways to go. Not enough time.

Re: Antonio Tarver: "Hopkins Will Have To Fight Me"
Although I have to give it to him, he was good in Rocky VI.

I really want to see this film, but the catch is that it doesnt come to Korea until February 15th!! Still quite a wait for me! It will show a day after my birthday though so a nice little treat, seeing as most of the movies that show here are seldom really my thing...

Tarver did look awful in that last fight...when I say he deserves another shot at Hopkins I should have added only if he can impress in a couple of warm ups...

Re: Antonio Tarver: "Hopkins Will Have To Fight Me"
That sucks. Simultaneous worldwide releases should be mandatory.
-
Re: Antonio Tarver: "Hopkins Will Have To Fight Me"
Tarver doesn't deserve a rematch...the fight wasn't even competitive.
Honestly...I don't buy the weight excuse...Hopkins's style is hell on limited fighters...& Tarver aint nearly as great as he wants everyone to believe, IWO.

I can only see a rematch becoming plauable is if Tarver makes a statement with a couple of impressive tune ups, and I really cannot see Hopkins waiting on Tarver anyways...

I dont think so.
If hopkins is coming back, its not to pussyfoot around with rematches against guys who he had 1 sided victories over. if he comes back its for the NEW. Its for the things he hasn't done, or things everyone wants him to do. I could see a heavyweight bout with a belt holder, i could see him spank the hell outta calzaghe. I cannot see him rematch tarver and add nothing to his career, He isnt back for the rankings, he's back for belts and super money.

Risk vs reward
Nard should definatley go for the big 1 with Maskaev . It makes perfect sense . Although personally i'd love to see him against Calzaghe , if I were his adviser I wouldnt recommend it .Oleg would be his best shot at ever winning aheavyweight title . He'd get less dollars against Joe and IMO less chance of winning it . The pace would be far slower up against Oleg and he's see the punchesd coming . He'd have to drop his weight to fight Joe and teh pace would be furious for a 40+ guy to maintain .
