Re: Hopkins Not Interested in Tarver Rematch
What's the point in fighting Tarver? There isn't one. Hopkins stops Calzaghe and beats Oleg on points. He loses to Jones on points and believe it or not I think he would get stopped if he faced Bell. Bell hits harder and is faster than Hopkins. Bell would be a bad choice for Hopkins

He's the best Cruiserweight out there. He's fast, has a big punch and a lot of heart. His defense and chin ain't great, but it's only let him down one time. He makes exciting fights

Re: Hopkins Not Interested in Tarver Rematch
Hopkins doesn't need to fight Tarver, I think a fight against Calzaghe would be interesting.

Hopkins can take any of those guys. That's why he is calling out names. He is smart enough to know at his age even he has to be selective about his opponents. I don't think Bernard would seriously consider fighting anyone who he thinks would be a big threat at this point. Bell he would outpoint along with Maskeav and probably Calzaghe; seeing as he didnt stop him late. Calzaghe or Bell i think are the most interesting opponents in the ones he is mentioning though.

The only two fights on the list that are worth anything are Hopkins/Oleg and Hopkins/Calzaghe.....
A fight with Jones would do nothing neither has a title and Jones is done all it would do is bring criticizm no matter what the out come.....Bell is too big and strong though Hopkins would box him silly but physics would catch him eventually...
Maskaev only because he is slow and would be out manuvered..this would just be a feather in brenards cap...he would give the belt up as soon as he won it
Calzaghe because it would prove once and for all where joe stands..IMO he ends up just like tarver....It is one thing to be impressive against the limited Lacey another against a guy like Hopkins

Bell aint a big enough name for him to close out his book with.
Calzaghe is where it's at...provided the T.V. star don't stop him.
If not Calzage...fight Winky. That would be the shit. Hopkins could drop the weight...he's come down from 175 before & made a career out of it.

I like B-hop but I must admit I have grown restless of all the talk about him coming back..He has every right to do whatever the hell he wants and I will watch, but I want to see more match making and less talking.
Not being abrasive about it but if your gonna do something lets get it done already... I would love to see Winky vs Nard at Middle would be a beautiful display of Tactical boxing and defense..

Hopkins stops Calzaghe? That's nonsense. I wouldn't be surprisd if Joe stopped him though.

Re: Hopkins Not Interested in Tarver Rematch
For me Calzaghe beats Hopkins convincingly. Cannot believe there is even the slightest bit of discussion about a rematch with Tarver. He hammered him.
-
Re: Hopkins Not Interested in Tarver Rematch
gotta love tarver, always good for a laugh or two. if the guy had beaten sum1 with name, or showed that the hopkins fight was him far from his ebst then fair enough, but hes done jack all maybe he should call out clinton woods or sumin, go there fight him and beat him, get a belt then maybe try get hopkins back in the ring.
but ah well, wont happen, aslong as hopkins doesnt bullsh*t us all and actualy fights calzaghe this time, calzaghe will send him into his second retirement.

We talking about the same Joe? Brittle hand muthafucka who hit Lacy with like a billion punches but couldn't stop him? Only knock down was due more to exhaustion than pain? A guy who's gone the distance with plenty of bums (to many to name). That Joe? You think he'll the stop iron-jaw Hopkins? A guy who's only been stunned twice in the last 10 years. And that was to the same fighter (Antwun Echols). Took flush shots from the murderous puncher Felix Trinidad and didn't fall. That Hopkins? You think Joe, stops him? You think that? Than I think your full of shit. I know the Trinidad loss still hurts, but come on. Let's not get stupid.

Hopkins vs Jones is a fight that needs to happen, that would be fantastic ! good match that. ;)
i think Hopkins would get that revenge !

Calm down lame-o. Tito started his career at 140. Joe had Lacy hurt numerous times throughout their fight and Lacy is ironjaw for real. He really took shots while Hopkins comes in with his head down so who really knows about his chin. Joe is a natural at the weight and he's good and you know what happens when he fight someone his own size that's good and stays busy. He goes into a shell like he did against JT. Only Joe doesn't tire in the later rounds so yeah, I can definitely see a stoppage there.

Seriously, I don't see that happening cause Hopkins never exposes his chin but you know a little smack talk never hurt anyone. I still think Joe wins that fight though.

I think Hopkins would win a 12 R Dec vs Calzaghe. would be a pretty good match

KER-CHING!!!! :coolclick:
As much as I like Joe & as fast as he is & all that...he'd be in for a rude awakening against Bernard. As far as back pedalling goes...I go back & forth a bit myself. Hopkins dropping the weight...getting reset at 160-168...would it affect him? Not sure...but I don't think that it would.
Hopkins knows his body & treats it as a temple...it's paid off for him for years.
Plus...Calzaghe aint going to be throwing 1200 punches at an open barnyard door like Lacy...he'll be trying to get into peep holes agianst Hopkins.
Also...people forget Hopkins's ability to crack. He's hammered out plenty of men & recently he dropped Tarver & had Taylor on queer street.
Hopkins is no walk in the park.

I agree with you Wack. And I would cc you, but that'll defeat the purpose of the sc I gave you earlier on. Calzaghe ain't knocking Hopkins out. Calzaghe ain't beating Hopkins. And one thing I'm wondering about is why everybody saying Lacy got a iron jaw? Since when? He was stun in his last fight. It looked like he almost went down. Omar Sheika wobbled him. And even Rubin Wlliams shook him and backed him up. So where's the iron at?

Well...Lacy's got a chin...basically on the grounds that he's taken some serious beatings & not gone down...the fact is...he's got NO DEFENCE. None. You'd think he'd pick something up from his sparring sessions with Wright...but he's an open book.
There lies Lacy's problems.

also tsypko(sp?) made him weak at the knees,
i don't think calzaghe has the power anymore to KO, MAYBE 5 years ago he had the power, but to many hand brakes and what nots have taken their tole. good point by wacko is how hopkins cin isnt going to be there to land any KO shots on either, i think calzaghe can and will sto hopkins late tho, but pure KO? i doubt that.
btw, in the lacy fight, there was like 2-3 times if i remeber right where lacy looked primed to get ko'd but the ref stopping it for the glove tape ot be cut, and i tink a gumshiled not in? was a couple times where lacy looked ready to go and got lucky brakes if i remeber right

:coolclick: Good points...but I kinda agree to disagree.
Here's why: Calzaghe still has the power to produce knockouts, IWO. Maybe not the one punch concussive bombs of yesteryear...but he's still got it. As goofy as this is going to sound...I think that Calzaghe is much like Floyd in the fact that he is an accumulative puncher. Shot after shot after shot on the button & with such speed...one can't help but get dropped.
Now...here comes the disagreeing whole heartedly part. Hopkins has never been stopped & he has been in there with some hard punching middles & light middles. Joe won't be able to accuarately hit Bernard...a knockout aint coming.
Then again...I aint preaching from a pulpit with a crystal ball plugging my poop-chute either...this is boxing...anything can & will happen...but I just don't see Hopkins counting lightbulbs for the 12 count.

thats fair enough and ill give respect to that; but the reason i think calzaghe can stop him is downto the fact hopkins is or would be like 42, 43? sure he looks in awsome shape, but we know how high temp calzaghe fights, we know he can land over 1k punches in a fight and not look tired (not saying he will connect with hopkins, but as an example of his fittnes) its been a very long time since hopkins has fought sum1 as fit, fast and strong as calzaghe +the better guy hes fighting the better joe always does.

thats fair enough and ill give respect to that; but the reason i think calzaghe can stop him is downto the fact hopkins is or would be like 42, 43? sure he looks in awsome shape, but we know how high temp calzaghe fights, we know he can land over 1k punches in a fight and not look tired (not saying he will connect with hopkins, but as an example of his fittnes) its been a very long time since hopkins has fought sum1 as fit, fast and strong as calzaghe +the better guy hes fighting the better joe always does.
Yep...& I'll agree with that.
Volume appears to be the key against Hopkins...but his last outting...he was totally on point...but it's as hard to make a case with Tarver as it is to make one with Lacy.
Know what I mean?
I'll say this...if Hopkins comes correct as he did against Tarver & Calzaghe comes correct as he did against Lacy...it'll be one hell of a nail biter.
No shit.

Hopkins stops Calzaghe? That's nonsense. I wouldn't be surprisd if Joe stopped him though.
No one has ever legitamately stopped Hopkins...I love Joe & all that...but let's be realistic.
Seriously, I don't see that happening cause Hopkins never exposes his chin but you know a little smack talk never hurt anyone. I still think Joe wins that fight though.
Start that back peddling
Not backpedaling homeboy. If anybody has the chance for a ko, it ain't Hopkins. Hopkins doesn't even look where he is punching alot of the time like his face is too cute to ruin or something. He constantly comes in lunging forward with his head. Learn boxing doggie.
