it can be yes. Here in england, if a trained boxer attacks someone and its not in self defense or any other valid reason, they are stripped of all there titles and anything else they have won.
Theres no strict definition but it is taken into consideration in the courtroom.
Well where I live instead of just getting some little assault charges u get assault with a deadly weapon. Anless like others have said u are doing it strickley in self defence but if u hit some one one time when it is unnessasary u will get in some deap shit!
Ive heard that you can be charged with more than just simple assault because you're trained to use your hands as a weapon.
I dont reckon that'd hold up in court for an amature boxer though. If you think about it, as an amature you're not trained to 'fight' your trained to 'compete' and its not until you reach pro that you 'fight'. The fact that amature contests are known as such, or as 'bouts' and not as 'fights' supports this.
This means that youd probably be able to argue that as an amature, your not a trained fighter...but a trained competitor...so your hands arnt deadly weapons afterall.
Just my few thoughts on the subject
Cheers
Always walking around with a deadly weapon hmmm..... am i gonna get a busted for carrying a concealed deadly weapon if I walk down the street with my hands in my pockets? hehheh ;) On the other hand, they arent gonna help me when someone comes after me with a real deadly weapon.
We're having some difficulties with the young kids in the cities agreeing to organized fighting. My club is very rural, thus, we haven't had to deal with this yet. We are aware of some boxers that have participated in it. I think a better question on this thread is what if one of your boxers is using his skills to participate and dominate illegal organized fighting?

So is this like professionally trained fighters, or someone who is kicking ass in thier home gym?
I think you have to be trained by a licensed trainer for it to even become an issue.
See, thats what I thought, having a certified license.
actually there was a significant case about this awhile ago concerning amateur boxing and fighting. A bouncer in a strip club either severly injured or killed and old man with a punch and it was taken to court. The bouncer had amateur boxing experience and it was determined that his knowledge of boxing had nothing to do with the outcome and the punch was a freak accident. Now if he would have provoked the old man and intiated the conflict it could've been a much different verdict so it boils down to this. Don't start anything but it's ok if you finish it quick without doing a lot of damage.
Gotcha.
Well, if you cant punch 'em for risk of "Asult with a deadly wepon", kick 'em in the gruin that's a good selfdefence stratagie in my mind.
And if it's a woman, then kick her in the baby?
I always believed that if you're a pro boxer you should use the triple foul combo Elbow/lowblow/headbutt and once they're on the ground you should be able to punch them because you weren't licensedly trained to fight like that.
I can't say for sure about England, but it's probably the same as here in Canada.
If two guys square off for a scrap, It's called Consesual assault.
In other words its an assault that they have both consented to and Niether one can be charged by the other,or by the crown (governmnet)
If you go down the street and run and smash into some guy and drive him to the ground its an assault, If you do it in a football game (American football) its called a tackle. You cant charge a guy for tackling you in a game or body checking you in hockey or say punching you in a boxing match because both participants have consented or have "implied" consent.
The problem arises when one person goes beyond what the court deems the other has consented to.
As an example. In a street fight you punch a guy in the nose and break it and he is knocked down. The judge would say its reasonable for him to assume that this might happen in a fist fight.
If while he's down you punch him repeatedly in the face and cave his head in. It would now be an assault, or in extreme cases (kicking a guy who is down on teh ground) an aggrevated assault, which is a crime just a step below attempted murder and is VERY serious.
There are of course curcumstance where you can use force and even deadly force.
Self defense
Removing Tresspassers forcibly
Defending others
Hoilding a person awaiting police etc.
In each case only a "like" defensive force can be used and the cases are based on "reasonableness"
I worked as a bouncer in Edmonton in the 80's and have many bar and "street" fights as well.
I have had assault charges pressed against me 8 seperate times and have beat them every time. Ive had the charges dropped or "stayed"
In each case I immediatly counter charged and even after winning had my charges "held in abayance" which means I could press forward with them later.
I think the "registered deadly weapon" stuff is bull.
BUT if a guy was a pro boxer and got into a fight. (SAY TYSON) he could defend himself and knock the guy down or out. If he set the guy up and then hit him so hard he brain damaged the guy the consent and reasonableness rules would result in civil and probable criminal charges
If you are a tough or skilled guy and go around picking fights and pounding guys who are stupid or just drunk then you are a low life and deserve to go to jail.
P.S. I trained Karate for years but in the bar its hard to puch a guy and land clean, you end up breaking your hand on teh top of his head missing etc. What I ended up doing.(mind you Im 6'4" and was 270) I always would put my left hand around the back of teh guys neck and pull down and forward. They would always resist and pull their head straight up and back and then I would swing my right elbow around and drive it right into thier face with all my force and bodyweight behind it. I NEVER had a guy survive that.
