ive ben thinking if Roy jones was put up against any middelweight fighter in the last 40 years who couldve beat him?
Off the top of my head Tommy hearns,Nigel Benn,Julian Jackson. They would all stand a chance coz they could punch and IMO Jones avoided hard punchers all his carrer.
Name me fighter with the reputation of a hard hitter that he fought.i cant think of 1 :-\
i dont know if you look at young roy he ran into some big punches that didnt do nutin the only one i see giving him a fight is tommy hearns just cuz hes nutin like wat roy ever foughtQuote:

I think that everyone's a bit too over critical when it comes to Jones...but Jackson & Benn sure as shit weren't journeymen they just took every challenge that came their way...Jones did not...& I'm a pretty big Jones fan.Quote:

Because Hagler was known for his glass jaw. Why'd I enter a RJJ topic? Nothing good can come of it....Quote:

SC for you. That is a crazy statement as there are many fighters he never fought!Quote:

dumb statement, as you can say that there are many fighters that EVERYBODY hasnt fought
Why is it dumb? Look at the fighters mentioned already that he never faced. To say no one in history could beat RJJ in his prime is just too bold of a statement.Quote:

Any of them could have beaten him. Plain and simple.
1 Tommy Hearns: Jones hand speed would be give Hearns a lot of problems
2 Marvin Hagler: It'll be the James Toney fight all over
3 John Mugabi: Terry Norris destroyed him. Jones would to.
4 Carlos Monzon: Jones on points
5 Juan Roldan: Lets not get carried away
6 Curtis Parker: This is just stupid
7 Nigel Benn: Jones shuts him out
8 Gerald Mclellan: After 3 rounds Mcclellan would get frustrated
9 Julian Jackson: Jackson would never catch Jones
10 Hopkins 2 if it ever happened: Hopkins-Jones all over
What can I say? Lend me your fucking magic fight making time machine pal!Quote:

I cant see anyone on the list offered beating Jones to be honest. A combination of being too slow, too small and just not good enough. Thats not to say it couldnt happen so I wont be the one to pretend like thats the case.
Thanks, at least your realistic and dont blurt out silly statements.Quote:

Ray Robinson 160
Bob Foster 175
Michael Spinks 175
Michael Moorer 175
Tommy Hearns at 168
Nigel Benn at 160
Michael Nunn at 160
Marvin Hagler at 160
Archie Moore at 175
Ezzard Charles at 175
Evander Holyfield at cruiser
James Toney at cruiser
Those guys were good some of them greats and they give ANYONE a hard fight
I'm gonna say the old brit comment, I'm not saying he definatly wouldda beat him, but Steve Collins had the right style to beat RJJ, whether he would have done it we'll never know. I doubt it very much TBH, but if any one was going to do it, I think it may have been him.
As the author of the thread saidQuote:

It's hard to find someone given time and weight restrictions....RJJ didn't hit his prime at middleweight and THEREFORE we can't say how good he really was at 160

And would suffer the same fate.Quote:
