gota be foreman and jones jr the things they say just open your eyes something just clicks in your head
Every time I see Foreman smiling at the camera after a fight I laugh, I think he's great.
I like Kellerman the best now.
I used to really REALLY like Merchant...but he's gone waaaaaaaaaaaay offa the deep end now.
Lamps is alright...but he seems a bit full of himself. Always loved Lederman & Lewis is starting to grow on me.
I'll stick with Max though. Oddly enough...I always thought that he was too big for ESPN2 & that he should move over to HBO.
He's just so damned enthusiastic over his job.
LAMPLEY IS GOD!!!
<-------------- the man being watched from my LEXUS
I would say Kellerman & Foreman.
I really like Lennox Lewis, he's growing on me, but the dream team for sure is Foreman and Lampley.
Agreed. Lennox is starting to pan out, isn't he?Quote:

hahaha
Agreed. The thing about Lewis is...he just needs to warm up a bit. Lewis has a wealth of knowledge, he's understandable, & he's just now starting to get into it.Quote:

Merchant was once a great analyst, now you're lucky to get one or two sentences out of him in between rounds. He's still worth having around just for the unintentional comedy.
I think Steward does a very good job. I always thought Foreman had no clue what he was talking about.
Fran Charles is beyond horrible.
I like Kellerman, sometimes his voice can kinda get to me because he yells more than talks. But overall he does a good job, he was great on ESPN FNF, and I assume he's being groomed to take Merchant's spot someday.
I don't think Lennox is anything special. Like someone said earlier, he just states the obvious most of the time. But I think they should keep him around, he certainly sounds like a bright guy, he could improve if he gets more comfortable.
I've always thought Brian Kenny would be a great addition to the HBO team, it would be great to see him take Fran Charles' spot, but I assume as long as he's at ESPN that's not going to happen.
One of my favourite quotes of all time is from a famous "soccer" (it's football really but I'll be forgiving for you american idiots!) manager, it goes like this " I'm a firm believer that if you score one more than your opponent you'll win" A few years ago my drum teacher said to me "The best advice I can give you is K.I.S.S, Keep It Simple Stupid." Thats my philosphy. But seriously like wack said, he has a wealth of knowledge, and has a unique style once he settles in, sometimes he sounds a bit stupid, but he is articulate and enigmatic at the same time. He stole the show when Maskaev knocked out Rahman again IMO ;)Quote:

I actually liked Roy Jones, I mean his ego is so big its comical, but when he wasn't fondling himself he was pretty good. Had a way of seeing some things before they happened.
one time awwwww man i cant quite remember the exact fight, RJJ told Larry to STFU cuz he never boxed before and Larry was like i dont need to box to know what im saying ahahahha
Lamps tends to call things that don't connect...that's my issue with him. He's a good mouthpiece & honestly...as stupid as this might sound...he gives it a bit of a sophistacated spin on it.Quote:

Wacko, what don't you like about Kenny? He knows the sport. I think his delivery is smooth. He's the best Sportscenter/ESPNews anchor right now IMO.
What specifically do you think his faults are?
Honestly...I don't dig on the way he comes off.Quote:

For some reason...I've never been able to click with him...always felt like he was second fiddle to Kellerman. It's not that he has faults...I just don't really feel his energy...as crystal wearing tree huggerish as that sounded.
Know what I mean? Not that you agree...just that you see what I'm saying.
To me, Kenny is the only thing ESPN 2's got going for them, I like him. Other than him they've got Tessitore, bad, and Atlas, worse.
True...but they went to pot when Kellerman bailed...don't you think?Quote:

I actually liked the guy who used to do Tessitore's job. What was his name, Bob Papa ??? I don't know, he was allright, I always got the sense that he wanted to tell Teddy to shut the fuck up. Maybe that's why I liked him.
Everyone should jus tbe thankful that Dick Vitalle doesn't announce boxing....BABY!. ha ha ha
I agree with this completely. I also have to totally disagree with everyone who's saying that Lennox Lewis is anything other than intolerable and needs to be fired immediately. I don't think he's improved a lick since starting. He doesn't talk at all unless specifically provoked to, and then he either (a) says something completely obvious, as THEBESTP4P perfectly characterized, or, since he's ignored everything that's been said before he ends up either (b) repeating what someone else has already said, or--more often, and more awkwardly--directly contradicting something Max just said, which is obviously right. And don't let the accent fool you--the guy is not smart.Quote:

He's often over-sure of something and sometimes turns out to be wrong (see JMM vs. Jaca), but he's definitely right way more than half the time. Seriously, he's the only guy on there now who will consistently call out that a guy who appears to be winning or at least competitive is making some mistake that's going to be his downfall 3-4 rounds before the guy gets the shit beat out of him and KO'd. I just appreciate the conviction too.
I do like Kellerman. I just wish he would go back to talking faster. HBO obviously coached him big time on slowing down and it just seems a bit awkward and not-him in the pre-game. Knowledge-wise he's excellent though--and well spoken. They really need to clean up the rest of that team though, because I agree Fran Charles is terrible (witness the difference when Lampley subs in), and as I said, Lennox is too (witness the difference when Manny subs in).
I've heard Hopkins commentate several times...ESPN2 in fact & he's also done some voice over (I think that's what you call it) on old championship fights. He's good...thing about the Nard is that he NEVER shuts the fwock up...he's a bit over powering & when he disagree's with the other commentators...he makes it known.Quote:

No doubt.
Merchant may not be as good as he used to be but he raises interesting questions at times, which get me thinking too and after the fight,if it's been a contraversial one,he picks the brains of the fighter. Lampley is good...if it does not involve someone he loves, then he tends to become a bit too biased. Anything with Oscar for example, watch teh B Hop fight,Oscar throws a pitter patter combo,NONE of which land and Lampley is like gushing wow, what handspeed, what a combo, and I'm sitting there thinking WTF,he missed!!!?!
I liked RJJ and he made ALOT of good points when he was commentating(watch Tito Mayorga,he nailed nearly EVERY point in that fight!) and he was lively. I like Steward because he knows alot about the sport but I don't like how after 20 seconds of a fight, when NOTHING has happened, and he'll say so and so has the upper hand now!! Does he have like a crystal ball or something?! He's interesting though so I like him.
I'm sorry but I DO NOT rate Max Kellerman. He's passionate etc but he makes far far too many mistakes and as a commentator,I understand when one of his faves fights,he'll be ahppy but I have NEVER seen someone over rate a fighter(Paul Williams) so much,he makes out like he's the second coming(he was just ANNOYING during the Mathysse fight) and he makes too many mistakes. I can't remember which fight it was but at least 3 times,he said Manny Pac koed MAB in 5 rounds...
Al Bernstein is the man for me,at Showtime and his partner too. They click and Bernstein's analysis at times is just AWESOME! hAVING ONLY BEEN A FAN OF BOXING FOR LIKE 2 YEARS,I have learnt alot from him,he has an eye for detail and usually makes astute points which come to fruition during the duration of the bout.
Lennox Lewis.....booooooooooooooooooooooooooooring,monoto nous!
i think they may of been pac vs morales 1Quote:

I also enclosed a pic of what he did to klitschko when he got mouthy with Russ Anber during an interview.
I think it's hard to compare commentators, because IMO there are three different types in boxing: 1) blow by blow commentary, 2) color commentary and, 3) expert commentary.
I like Jim Lampley's CC, but to me he gets overbearing with his BBB. Especially at first, he calls every single punch, and of course, I'll find myself disagreeing with some of what he sees. As a matter of fact, I'm hard pressed to think of a BBBC that I really like.
I think my fav EC is RJJ. He's very articulate and insightful. I also like Stewart, he knows the game.
I can't help but like Larry Merchant, he's just good entertainment!
Seems we're talking about non HBO commentators as well. I just want to say I actually think that Teddy Atlas is very knowledgeable, but he gets so annoying when he repeats the same thing over and over. Also, whenever he asks a guest a question about fight strategy, he poses it in a way that tries to lead them to answer in support of his opinion.
I remember watching a classic fight from the 40s. The commentator was very unobtrusive. The fight was pretty one sided, but the commentator avoided saying who he thought was winning.
LOL . I love Teddy, he really is one smart muterfuker ! but your on the money there with the lead to answer in support of his opinion. LMFAO ! I usually agree with him so it don't bother me much . I think you nailed his annoying traits to the tee. :coolclick:Cool Click #4Quote:
