Who is the hardest hitting heavyweight of all time?
We have had some hard hitters over the years..Liston, Marciano, Dempsey, Tyson ect...but I have to admit I think a prime George Foreman may have been the hardest hitting SOB of them all...Slow but when he connected MAN!!!! It hurt just watching...A case can be made for Liston,,Johnson and a few others but You only get 5 choices.....

Re: Who is the hardest hitting heavyweight of all time?
I'll say Foreman because he wrecked a lot of guys and I think he honestly hit hardest p4p it's without a doubt Earnie Shavers he was only 6'1 210-205 that's small....Foreman was 6'4 220 in his prime
-
Re: Who is the hardest hitting heavyweight of all time?
id say foreman-then shavers -then marciano
marciano was the original but foreman was the hardest hitter--ask frazier and moore

Re: Who is the hardest hitting heavyweight of all time?
Big George could crack.. He had what I call the Midas Touch ! both hands ! very intelligent heavyweight., he better in his late 30's and 40 then as a youngster ! He would very his power during a match.. get you to like it and then pop that hammer back and let you know the storm is coming . he also could hide the str8 right behind that jab and let it go in succession ! ba- bang .. all at once ! Sent many to sandman land that way
a sleeper would be Bert Cooper he would throw a nice little choppy 6 inch punch on the inside that could just short out the system. O0

Re: Who is the hardest hitting heavyweight of all time?
Toss up between Foreman and Shavers. If I had to pick one I would go with Shavers.
-
Re: Who is the hardest hitting heavyweight of all time?
I voted BIG GEORGE.
Very close 2nd Shavers.
-
Re: Who is the hardest hitting heavyweight of all time?
Out of those guys it has to be Mike... Shavers is the only who comes close to him when it comes to one punch ko's. Foreman could pummel a guy, but he never cleanly ko'ed a good opponent like Mike or Shavers. The reason why I say Mike over Shavers is that he is about 20 pounds bigger, alot faster, and he just the same type of leverage into his punches, but like I said Foreman was immensely strong, but not ko type puncher, and I don't think he was any stronger than Mike who weighed as much as him, but was 5 inches shorter.

Re: Who is the hardest hitting heavyweight of all time?
I remember George KO aguy in the 1st and the crowd booing after my pal who was the ref came over to me . He said scrap, because he was talking to me, I dont know what they are booing for the sound of the connection frightened the life out of me did you notice nobody at ringside was booing. Funny inthe dressing room area after I was standing in the doorway he was trying to get thruogh very politely he asked if I could move my reply was. George Im on your side.

Re: Who is the hardest hitting heavyweight of all time?
I wouldn't agree with Big George, he hit Chuvalho on the button for 3 minutes and couldn't drop him, Ali took his best shots and if you think of a lot of Foreman's KOs they were accumulation of punches rather than one big shot. He is definitely a huge puncher, but for 1 punch power I would go with Shavers.

Re: Who is the hardest hitting heavyweight of all time?
I thought when he came back he punched harder probably thought about it more could be Archie had something to do with that.

i agree that uppercut he koed ellis with and that overhand right he hit larry holmes with was like shotgun going off for 1 punch ko power id go with shavers you know what daxxkahn i was going to do exact same thread today lol beat me to it but have cc for good thread anyway

Re: Who is the hardest hitting heavyweight of all time?
I'll go for Foreman because I like his grilling machine,,,, no, I meant he did hit very hard, but P4P I would say Shavers.
I think Tyson's power was attached to his fist combination speed and Marciano had the "suzy q" but not one punch power and Dempsey was tough but for out and out one punch power it would have to be Foreman then a very close second is Shavers.

Thats more of a credit to Chuvalhos chin though. I dont believe he was ever down in his career

Agreed to an extent - but 'The Greatest' puncher of all time should be able to knock ANYBODY down
-
Re: Who is the hardest hitting heavyweight of all time?
I was unsure between Mike and Rocky but for very different reasons. I sided with Mike becuase i had a lapse back to the days when he knocked out every fooker on the scene! Gotta love it :D
-
Re: Who is the hardest hitting heavyweight of all time?
Way i see it is.. George was not a one hit puncher... But bloody hard..
Rocky might have been better puncher in regards to one hit..But was often dominated for almost an entire fight in his biggest fights before knocking them out..So either rocky is truely a one hit puncher..Or they puffed out beating his ass and he had too much heart for them and knocked em out late...
Tyson certainly acceptable..Good technique certainly.. i wouldnt say later years count cos he slipped away from prime far too early.. But at prime tyson is a serious consideration..
Havnt seen enough of shavers to really judge him..But enough seen and read to know he was a seriously bad bad man.
Peace

Re: Who is the hardest hitting heavyweight of all time?
P4P I'd say Tyson because he wasnt reliant on size but on sheer speed and power and he had awesomme 1 punch kayos to prove it.
-
Re: Who is the hardest hitting heavyweight of all time?

Re: Who is the hardest hitting heavyweight of all time?
Foreman cuz for an arm puncher he packs a wallop
-
Re: Who is the hardest hitting heavyweight of all time?
Preme its funny you should say that, when in conversation with lots of American sparring partners who had sparred with Tyson Holmes Foreman and the likes when I asked them who the hardest hitter was to a man they all said Bruno, so its not a silly as it might sound

not sure theres ever been a fighter thats knocked down all of his opponents ???
but I don't think theres ever been a fighter that would drop Chuvalo, a good few may stop
him but none would drop him

Again agreed to an extent - but what I mean is that Foreman was able to hit Chuvalho on the chin for the best part of a whole round and didn't drop him. It's not the fact that he didn't knock out EVERY opponent, it's the fact that he managed to hit this one bang on the button a dozen times and not drop him. That said would any of the others have dropped Chuvalho :-\

I don't think so. Chuvalo fought EVERYONE and he was never down. One tough sumbitch.

Re: Who is the hardest hitting heavyweight of all time?
If the ref hadnt stopped it when he did Chuvalo was getting kod for the first time
-
Re: Who is the hardest hitting heavyweight of all time?
Maybe, but there has never been anyone who could drop or KO Chuvalo with ONE clean punch. You had to practically kill him to stop him. Chuvalo had one of, if not THE, greatest chins of all time.
I voted for Shavers, but I don't think he could have dropped, or even stopped Chuvalo.

Re: Who is the hardest hitting heavyweight of all time?
surprised u dont have frazier on there as a choice but to tell u the truth i cant call it beacause they all had such diffrent styles its hard to tell ... for example foreman may have hit harder then tyson but the way tyson leans with hes punches plus the speed creates a bigger impact so i cant say

Re: Who is the hardest hitting heavyweight of all time?
Frazier wasn't the hardest puncher he was up there, and would be rated higher than some of the guys up there, but he couldn't hit as hard. As for who hits harder between Foreman and Shavers ask Ken Norton... or better watch the fights cause I doubt he remembers either one, but Shavers takes him out in one round with textbook technique and power While Foreman got him in the corner and had to pummel him for I believe 4 rounds to KO him. Also the Lyle fight he had to punch Lyle for a very long time before he went down when Foreman finished the fight. Also against Frazier he hit Frazier alot before Frazier stopped, and he did knock Frazier down six times, but he still was able to get back up. Foreman with technique could contend with Tyson, but not the ogre Foreman.

it took foreman 2 rounds to finish norton mate but i think shavers hits harder than foreman with one punch ko power imo anyway

Re: Who is the hardest hitting heavyweight of all time?
I'm the only one that voted for marciano!? Someone said foreman hit hardest pound for pound. I'd have to side with the 5'11 184 marciano being the pound for pound hardest puncher and the hardest punching heavyweight ever. Tyson hit hard no doubt but it was his speed and technique that added alittle something to it. Foreman hit hard as well but he was also HUGE. Marciano did the damage he did being extremely undersized.

Re: Who is the hardest hitting heavyweight of all time?
In fairness I wouldnt like to get hit by any off them

Re: Who is the hardest hitting heavyweight of all time?
I revised it and added Frazier some reason I thought 5 was the limit...I added Dempsey because I wanted someone from yester year on the list :-\
-
Re: Who is the hardest hitting heavyweight of all time?
If anyone from yester year should be on here its Joe Louis because he considered by everything I've seen as the biggest puncher ever though I very much disagree with that.

CC for pointing that out mate.
How could we forget about Joe Louis???
He could knock a man down with punches from an incredibly small distance, like that right hand against Schmeling in the second fight, by just getting ALL his bodyweight into the punch. He didn't need no big swing like Big george, just really knew how to throw a punch.

Re: Who is the hardest hitting heavyweight of all time?
Here are there records of real knockouts (KO's not TKO's)and the number of fights.A couple extra fighters were added.
Foreman 28ko's in 81 fights
Frazier 10ko's in 37 fights
Marciano 26ko's in 49 fights
Shavers 63ko's in 89 fights
Dempsey 47ko's in 83 fights
Louis 36ko's in 72 fights
Tyson 16ko's in 58 fights
W Klitschko 16ko's in 50 fights
There is no real way of telling who was the hardest puncher but acording to real KO's Shavers looks to be the winner.
