Why is Pacquiao getting so much hype?
He is exciting, and a great fighter, but he is fighting bad opposition which I don't understand why people are giving him so much credit... Morrales was done before their second fight, and Larios is a good fighter, but not somebody Pacquaio should be fighting when are better guys. He should be trying to get a fight with Guzman, Chris John or JMM, but beating Morrales and Barrera over and over again holds no credence with me anymore. He's proven he can beat them and I don't think beating them again should bolster his ranking P4P. People say look how much faster he beat Morrales this time, but I say Morrales could have foughten a longer fight, but he saw no point to it he was too old and too worn down to beat the younger, stronger, faster Pacquaio at this stage in his career, and same goes for Barrera. I believe that he hasn't foughten a fighter with true credientials at that moment in their career since 2004. In the mean time I believe both Mayweather and Winky have foughten far better opposition and in my mind have demonstrated superior boxing skill.

Re: Why is Pacquiao getting so much hype?
=if erik was THAT done why DIDNT barrera or raheem stop him or at least drop him once Pac DID.
=if MAB was just off that night he was mauled by PAC why was it a landslide win/stoppage for PAC and not just a close decision win?
=PAC compared to other big punchers at 130 is really a natural 126 pounder IMO he started his career as a fighter at 112 pounds and worked his way up DESTROYING fighters MUCH BIGGER THAN HIM.
= he's got charisma ad a powerful fighter who is actually NOT A THUG

Good points, and let me add some too. They say Barrera and Morales are almost a sure future Hall of Fame(rs). They say Morales was a finished fighter only when he got beaten by Pac - didn't they say that to Barrera when he got beaten too? Oscar Larios not one of the 'better' fighter for Pac? hmmm, with a record of 54-5, who held the World super bantam title straight for almost 4 years (he lost the title to a guy he tko'd before because he was drained making weight so he moved up immediately after that), winning 13 consecutive times during that period, but Pacman took him as his tune-up opponent, and still not impressive?

Excellent points and I'm not even a big Manny fan but the bastard earnt my respect by beating these warriors. In beating Erik who busted him up the first time and becoming the first man to stop him, beating MAB who was suppoosedly finished yet has manged to fight on for another 4 years, drawing with JMM(although I thought he lost),and beating Larios PLSU busting up 122 pounders asses too,to ask why he is getting so much hype is a really really silly question.
And it's not just the guys he has beaten but how he has beaten them and the imprements he has been showing. Like I said,I'm not a fan but when a guy busts up 3 of your favourite fighters,I think he deserves respect. He has beaten more hall of famers than either.
And to say Mayweather has fought better opposition in the 3 year time span is the biggest pile of shat I have heard.....Morales washed up the third time is better than Baldo,Gatti,Mitchell etc etc so how impressive is a Morales who wasn't washed up ie the second time.Manny has beaten more Hall of famer fighters than Floyd and has fought as many good fighters as Floyd has in his entire career in 3 years.Even when Morales was fighting Pac the third time, peeps thought Morales may still win, respectable members here, guys who know their shot. When has Floyd fought someone we thought..hmmm..may be a challenge.....not since JLC until Oscar..... :-\
Pac also started as mentioned,at 112,which makes his accomplishments even more amazing!
-
Re: Why is Pacquiao getting so much hype?
I can't believe what I just read. ??? Floyd has had tougher competition? WOW! I don't think I need to say anything cause if Pac can't impress this guy with his ringwork then I damn sure can't convince him with my words.
-
Re: Why is Pacquiao getting so much hype?
So what are the other primetime, good money fights that Pac should be taking right now? He killed the old guard of greats. Before Pacman those guys were still considered the top. Now that he beat them, they are old. Ain't that how it always is?
-
Re: Why is Pacquiao getting so much hype?
Morrales was getting slower, and not as good for a few fights before for fighitng Pacquaio already by his last fight with Barrera there was a huge difference in how he fought then when they first fought. This is not to mention that Morrales and Barrera to a lesser extent IMO are not the type of fighters I consider to be like Hopkins or Lennox who have become more effective with age. I agree Pacquaio is good, but he gets rolled p4p against Mayweather, and about his weight he came in smaller than Morrales in their first fight and he lost. He has been as big or bigger in the last two fights and it showed that he wasn't the smaller man anymore. Morrales beat Pacquaio clearly in the first fight, and I believe if they fought in his prime it would be similar to that except worse for Pacquaio because Morrales used to hit harder, and same with Barrera.

Title: Why is Pacquiao getting so much hype?
HYPE? Are you serious Taeth? You've gotta be kidding, the mans a fwocken punching machine, explosive, powerful, fast. It takes a real champ to step in the ring and take on fighters like the ones he has. So many fighters 'Champs' enter the ring and consider themselves the best and to have fought the best. Some of them fight 1 fighter of the best caliber and thats that,All you gotta do is go through Pacs record to see that hes fought 3 future BHofF.
Taeth theres just NO freakin' way you could really feel Pacs getting toooo much love. The Man single handedly put the Phillipines on the map. He beat MAB, then he got very lucky to walk away with a draw against JMM, he beat Erik twice, loosing once to him.
I think for those 3 fights alone putting aside Larios and the rest of his last fights he derserves the love, respect that he gets.
What I do think is that his fans that come on here push things a little tooo far and therefor tarnish what Pac has done. Still I can see past that and still credit Pac for what hes done and just try to ignore some of his annoying fans.
-
Re: Why is Pacquiao getting so much hype?
this is the dumbest question I`v seen for a while. haha
its simple, pac has whoop and gave excitement in his every fight and he has left no name to dry. he has fought them all.
winky and pbf does not have better oppenents, winky has been fight guys past there prime and only guy who wasn't is a guy who isn't in his prime well atleast not for sure(j.t)
and pbf is just an embarressment, his one of the reason why some boxing fans has turn there back on the sport. pbf being call p4p king is embarressing. fwock his talent he aint got balls. most fans now mistake boxing as more of a frienly sport fwock that. boxing is about warriors he fights whoever boxer are not business mens.
now back to pac, he has the character boxing needs a good guy but a beast in the ring. boxing needs fighters who can intimidate the regualy guy, that's why ufc blew up they had guys like tank abbot not much telant but wants to lay ur ass out.
you shouldn't be asking why pac is being so hype, you should be asking how can we have more guys like pac to bring boxing back to the top. a money hungry punk like pbf don't give a fwok he jst wants the credit and say his great but only fight guys who has already lost to some else, and as for pac he beats the fuck out of everyone like no other fighter can.
we need more pacman in boxing do we need another boring pbf and winky? fwok no because we would lost more boxing fans there gonna turn to mma and forget boxing.

exactly Mick the way I see it alot of people really/truly want to root for PAC and admire him but because of their hatred for some fans they would root for anybody as long as PAC get's beat. that's a FACT :)

Re: Why is Pacquiao getting so much hype?
Wow you guys are totally misunderstanding me... Pacquaio is skilled, fast, strong, etc, etc. But he isn't as good as some of the guys out there. IMO not even close. I think proof of how far MOrrales fell was against Zahir Raheem who is a good boxer, but not Hall of Famer anywhere near the prime of their career would have lost to him as decisively as Morrales did. Barrera-Pacquaio was a great fight, but I think younger Barrera would have won because he had a little better defense, and had a better chin. Pacquaio is a exciting, and probably the most fighter to watch in the world right now, but when I say hype I mean he shouldn't be #2 p4p, and people considering him as good as Mayweather is crap. The reason why I say Mayweather's competition was a little better is because Zab came in more focused, and in better shape(the only time he really had very defined abs) than we've ever seen him. He is the hardest opponent for Mayweather because 1. He's southpaw 2. He's the only guy who comes close to Mayweather in speed or skill at fighting a slow fight when he's thinking. 3. With his speed comes alot of power which combined with the speed makes him a dangerous fighter when he does come in focused. Why IMO Baldomir was a harder opponent for Mayweather than Morrales was for Pacquaio. 1. He naturally way bigger than Mayweather, and outweighs him by almost 40 pounds at his walking around weight. 2. Mayweather couldn't hurt him. 3. Baldomir didn't give up when he realized he was overmatched, and he still threw kept comming, and unlike Morrales he was comming off to big wins while MOrrales morale must have been down in the dumbs after losing two fights in a row.
All I am saying is thinking about Pacquaio in the ring with mayweather (who is close to Pacquaio's size because if you look at him, he only moved up from super feather weight to get new challenges, and when he was the age Pacquaio was when he started his career he was the fighting in the olympics at 118). THis is not just with Mayweather, but how would Pacquaio beat Winky who he likely couldn't hurt, and who's jab dominates orthodox fighters let alone southpaws. I think Pacquaio beats Hopkins, Barrera, any heavyweight, and Taylor p4p, but I don't see him being better p4p than Calzaghe, and what Calzaghe did beating an old Eubanks who until then didn't necessarily look young.

So you think Barrera or MOrrales right now would beat Castillo or Margaritto p4p? I don't even like Margaritto and I think p4p he's too strong for Barrera or MOrrales right now, and both him and Castillo are much harder opponents than Barrera or Morrales at this point in their carreers.
-
Re: Why is Pacquiao getting so much hype?
Going by that list Morrales and Barrera couldn't beat ODLH p4p either, nor JMM who didn't lose to Pacquaio and came back on points to tie it after being knocked down 3 times in the first round. I also think Arce at this point would give Barrera a run for his money, and likely beat Morrales if its Morrales who was at 130.

Re: Why is Pacquiao getting so much hype?
Because I don't think that Pacquaio can beat a few elite fighters in the world? Every fighter has his flaws, and Pacquaio has many especially on defense he only needs fight somebody with amazing jab or who's faster than him or somebody like Winky who is very good defensively and he is in trouble, but there are very few of them. I just think that an exciting fighter doesn't make him deserve a higher rank p4p.

that's what make pacquiao an exciting fighter. the thought that he has flaws and beatable and yet he overcomes his opponents despite those flaws. even when he was very young and raw, he faced some opponents who's got great boxing skills (chatchai sasakul for instance) and with sheer determination, heart and guts overwhelmed them in the end. being blessed with tremendous stamina and power doesn't hurt him either. sooner or later he'll be in the ring with the ones you want him to fight and chances are he'll make a believer outta you... that is as long as pac keeps his focus and discipline in training.

Re: Why is Pacquiao getting so much hype?
He's beaten Morales twice, and knocked out Barrera, he's from the phillipines and he is very exciting to watch and has massive power. And he seems like a really nice guy. Thats why there's so much hype its pretty simple really.

Barrera is currently no. 4 P4P on Ring Mag's list ... Margarito? Nowhere to be seen among the top 10 ...
PAC currently at no. 2 moving to no. 1 ...

Re: Why is Pacquiao getting so much hype?
Barrera is rated that high on name alone. No way would he beat Castillo p4p. He hasn't done anything impressive since he beat Morrales in 2004 by MD.. I don't think he could beat a young(or less worn out fighter) who has a good chin and comes foreward. When I say hype I mean why does Pacquaio get so much hype for his skill when he is a good fighter, but he lacks alot qualities the great fighters who fought like him had. Example young Tyson had way better head movement, and he slipped punches far better. I think Pacquaio has time to learn, but watching Floyd when he was only 21-22 he would have already beaten Pacquiao back when he fought Genaro if that Floyd met Pacquaio now.

Pacquiao doesnt have a sound technique yes, but for someone as technically deficient as he is he surely is EFFECTIVE ;D that alone I think should warrant hype.
I noticed you're starting to berate PAC's previous opponents, dude I'd like to ask you do you think Valero can or will stop PAC? (IMO Valero should be the topdog on this one since he is naturally bigger and stronger starting his career at junior lightweight). What if PAC stops Valero too? I guess you'll say VAL is too green, not skilled.......and so forth ::**

P4P lists are subjective but almost all P4P list consistently listed Barrera among the top 5 together with PAC, PBF, Winky and JT. I think, it is only your P4P list where Margarito and Castillo were ranked higher than Barrera ... You have a very "unique" P4P list ...

If I didn't like him why would I buy his career? I do like Pacquaio and he is one of my favorite fighters right. Also I believe he would be Valero, but who has Valero foughten? Mosquera? Does that really mean that he can compete with Pacquaio? Also where a fighter started their career isn't fair when one guy started his career when he was 15-16, and the other guy starting his at 21. Those 5-6 years a person not only grows taller, but fills out. IMO Valero is no bigger than Pacquaio nor is he the type of boxer who could beat Pacquaio.

Re: Why is Pacquiao getting so much hype?
The funny thing about it is that he doesn't get hype. He gets the credit he deserves for taking on the toughest challenges out there and proving time and time again that he can overwhelm even the best. There's a thin line between credit and hype and you're putting Pac on the wrong side of that line.

Obviously you unaware of the termoil prior to MAB's fight with Pac Man.
He left his promoter to join golden Boy Promotions. This angered his old old promoter so he disclosed that MAB had a plate in his head which caused a media frenzy here in the states not in his homeland. 2nd his training camp was interupted / stopped due to brush fires. 3rd he underestimated Pac Man. All more legitimate excuses than a pair of socks from the .99 cents store as used by Pac Man and his nuthugging fans. I Hope his jockstrap is sized right for the JMM rematch. Either way it is his nuthugging fans and not Pac himself that generate excuses if he falls short of a KO. Plus if you knew anything about boxing you would know Raheem has little or no power at all.

There is only one opponent. Pac man has a wallet full of money but the store shelves are bare. Only JMM remains because after that there are no qualty foes. Within the division are old marquee names. Beating Morales after 2 losses hardly qualifies for pedestal status. Mmmm guess if I bagged Farrah Faucet today, I am a stud because she used to be hot !!!

Re: Why is Pacquiao getting so much hype?
The thing is Hatton was in a similar position to Pacquaio and everyone said he could beat PBF, and Hatton is another very good pressure fighter who is not quite the athlete Pacquaio is, but is better schooled, and his defense was suspect when he fought Collazo and he had troubles. I think Casamayor would Pacquaio a hell of a fight. I mean Pacquaio for his last few ko's has worn down his opponents, and hasn't shown one punch ko power really lately (Third fight against Morrales like I said earlier was not a devastating ko, but Erik decided not to stand up... he even gave a knowing wink to his corner though I don't think the fight was rigged he knew he was outgunned and didn't want to get brutalized). Anyways Casamayor is very skilled, a good puncher with speed, and only 5 pounds north of Pacquaio. Guzman like Valero are good opponents to raise Pacquaio's stock more, but they may not be ready for him nor may they be the right opponents for him. Pacquaio is pretty big at 130, and I could easily see him going up to 140 if he wanted to, and then he could fight Corrales, Castillo, Hatton though I think they would all beat him because they too big. The thing I see is Mayweather can go up and down weightclasses even as he gets older due to skill while I don't think Pacquaio will be able to fight much bigger because as good as he is. He realizes on his power to save him, and thats why he isn't as good as PBF or Winky IMO.

That's why we have a P4P list in order to compare boxers from different weight category without having them to actually fight each other... Imagine a heavy fighting a fly ... P4P is subjective but yours is so unique where Margo and Castillo are ahead of Barrera... ;)

Either way it is his nuthugging fans and not Pac himself that generate excuses if he falls short of a KO. Plus if you knew anything about boxing you would know Raheem has little or no power at all.
Bro I'm not berating MAB but I believe that Barrera could very well be overwhelmed by PAC as much as Juarez did. Citing MAB-Juarez I as an example, MAB cannot handle Juarez in a toe to toe fight given that Juarez is very tentative and quite lazy imagine what a fired PAC would do. I just know alittle about boxing IMO for I dont box at all ;D
by the way I consider Juarez more of a threat to PAC than MAB is or ever will be :)

He's already gone up several weight classes and taken on the best possible opponents on the way I might add (not like Floyd). Seriously, I think Floyd is great but I'm just not sure. How can anybody be sure if he doesn't fight the best fights. Winky is another story and I don't have a problem with either he or Pac being p4p #1. I'm not a die hard fan of either but they're are the two most deserving.

Re: Why is Pacquiao getting so much hype?
How many future Hall of Famers does Pac have to @ss kick before you realize he is a future hall of famer himself.

Re: Why is Pacquiao getting so much hype?
In the last 8 years Pacquaio has gone up ten pounds, and before that he was still growing/starving when he first started. In the last 4 years Mayweather has gone up 19 pounds, and is fighting Oscar Dela Hoya at a weight 24 pounds above where Mayweather would be at his prime.

Re: Why is Pacquiao getting so much hype?
The only weight class Mayweather didn't fight the best was light welterweight, and even get me started on how he would have done against Kostya Tszyu.

That's why we have a P4P list in order to compare boxers from different weight category without having them to actually fight each other... Imagine a heavy fighting a fly ... P4P is subjective but yours is so unique where Margo and Castillo are ahead of Barrera... ;)
.
I know what the p4p list is for, but Barrera right now is 5 pounds south of Castillo so have them fight at 138.5 and who do you think would win? or 137.5 is Castillo would do it? THats a catch weight in between their weights right now, and Castillo would destroy MAB.

taeth, you got the p4p twisted. its not about them meeting at a catch weight. its a matter of if they where naturally the same size. mab has gone up enough and castillo has too. goind up or down is not good for either one because they have reach their limit. so a fight in a catch weight is not the correct way to look at it. look at there resume and how they have win. castillo is a inconsistent fighter, mab is the kind that maintains a certain level. mab has multiple gears while castillo is always at one pressured but solid state. mab is a future hall of fame, castillo is not.
this is all bullshit, since mab lost to pac suddenly anyone bigger or whoever can beat him...the size issue is bullshit. image if mab was a natural middleweight. his boxing skill but brawling abbility would be nearly unbeatable,
in that case imagin a natural middleweight pacman. his speed his power and stamina will be outstanding.
the lower weightclass is always look over, imagin though some of them a natural middleweight and you will get why p4p mab em jmm and pac have been p4p best.
about pbf, yea he has move up a lot...lets give him credit for that. but certainly he has left many names and choose tune up instead, something greats don't do. while moving up he has fought no p4p best, the only p4pders he has fought where castillo and chico, that was as a featherweight, way way back. since then he has fought gatti mitchell zab baldomir, if you sum up his oppenents including chico and castillo, basically pbf has fought a bunch of inconsistent fighters.
the thing that's missing with pbf is that, he hasn't beat someone that hasn't been beaten by someone else. sum up the number of lost the fighters he has been beating, it average about 4 loses. and add on the fact that the only reason why pbf got top p4p is because roy and bhop lost. pac and winky hasn't yet dominated so it was a gift to pbf. he never got the deserving win over a great, and pac and winky has now beaten atleast two great or hall of famers. that's why pac and winky has a case. plus how good is pbf if he wasn't jst fighting inconsisten fighters.
taeth I want to know what you think pbf would do to koysta if they fought. don't base your oppinion on the hatton koysta fight. base it on before koysta lay off. because that's when they could of fought.
