Re: HOW AWESOME IS 2007 SHAPING UP?!?!?!
You forgot Calzaghe V Manfredo ;)
Re: HOW AWESOME IS 2007 SHAPING UP?!?!?!
Granted it is looking like a pretty good year from an American point of view, but from a British point of view it still has a lot of promise that is dwindling as the year matures.
Haye v Maccarinelli has died a death. They're both too interested in a bout against O'Neil Bell to care about fighting each other, and the rivalry of their promoters is galling.
If Hatton gets a fight v JLC that'll be great, but we gotta wait and see on that one.
Our champions of Calzaghe has a fight against what is really just a warm-up act in Manfredo jr, and Clinton Woods hasn't even been in the papers recently. The drunkard Scott Harrison is talking about a comeback, and Alex Arthur is still dreaming of some sort of world challenge, but knowing Fwank he'll f**k it up again.
And as for the heavyweights...gimme a break. Harrison seems to be proclaiming himself a contender after beating a washed-up Mike Tyson beater who has only had 2 or 3 truely quality performances in his career, and only had 2 weeks to prepare. Gammer is yet to prove himself and Skelton is injured.
Trust me El Gamo...we got very little to be joyous about at the top level.... :'(

Don't worry bro, look at all those other great fights,it'll take your mind off the British boxing scene and great fights are great fights regardless. Plus Hatton alone will make you happier because I think he beats Urango,Castillo and anyone else he fights at 140,paving way for a huge fight with Cotto at 147 at the end of 07!!!

LMFAO!! I honestly hope Zab gets KTFO by Cotto or Tony!! However,I admit, his return does add to 147,he's a good test for any fighter for a few rounds.Sultan Briggs?!?! Exciting?!?!?! ;D :D
Re: HOW AWESOME IS 2007 SHAPING UP?!?!?!
Yes, it's great. ;D
And I already told my g/f's squirelly son that he will not be tuning into the UFC crap on Showtime while he is here. I hope it goes the way XFL.
Re: HOW AWESOME IS 2007 SHAPING UP?!?!?!
Cheers El Gamo, but the only way that I am going to be cheerful about all of those big fights around the world is if I get guarantees from Sky Sports that they're all gunna be in the programming schedule. Otherwise I reserve the right to be the same cynical, grouchy, party-pooper of a Welshman I always have been.... ;) CC bro
Re: HOW AWESOME IS 2007 SHAPING UP?!?!?!
CC back brother, and don't worry,if Sky cannot show the fights,I'm sure fate will open up other avenues for you :P ;D
Re: HOW AWESOME IS 2007 SHAPING UP?!?!?!
Among the things that you have noted which are truely great fights...
I Wont be completely satisfied with the year unless joey C fights someone really big..Like he said he would.. He needs Jermain or Bernard this year definately.
Obv Bhop's return...Against hopefully both roy and joey c...
Im interested in how zab fits in to the welter division now that floyd has gone and Carlos may have retired..Does azb rematch him...Plenty of names he has yet to fight..And cant nobody say zab doesnt fight the tough guys..
Some unification of light welter titles?
Witter has the wbc..Mbaye the wba..Mbaye has fought a couple of times in england and on warren's sports network..Maybe they would unify..
In all fairness i still believe that the winner of hatton - castillo should they meet would be regarded the undisputed champ..But also hatton takes the ibf.. and maybe takes the fight with witter for unification.. Then who ever fights torres is gona be braveee..Cos that guy is a bad fighter mann..
I would love to see hatton torres..Definately.
Also anxious to see whether Floyd does retire after he fights oscar win or loose...
Where as oscar has said he wants a few more fights win or loose against floyd.. But should he loose does he fight on?
Peace

Don't be so down on our British scene buddy there is lots to look forward to.
Joe Calzaghe is set for his career defining fight against an American superstar hopefully by the end of the year. Ricky Hatton will no doubt get his matchup with Castillo and who knows what after that?
Amir Khan is coming along nicely and could certainly be British champion, maybe European level by the end of the year.
2007 should hopefully be the year that Carl Froch finally makes it on the world stage. Calzaghe leaving 168 will leave a void and Froch may very well get his chance.
David Haye could well be fighting the winner of Bell Mormeck 2 for the undispute cruiserweight crown.
Clinton Woods will hopefully get a much deserved shot at Tarver, or a rematch with Roy Jones, maybe even Calzaghe.
Across the pond Bernard Dunne is set to become the biggest Irish boxer since Barry McGuigan and will become much more well known in 2007.
Alex Arthur is looking red hot right now and could yet be a suprise force in his division.
Junior Witter will hopefully get a name opponent and Howard Eastman will be no doubt looking for another title shot.
I've got a feeling Audley Harrison will fight an eliminator by the end of the year and even if you hate them a fight with Matt Skelton would still be huge domestically, I'd certainly love to see it.
I think there are some positives to look out for in British boxing this year, granted we're relying on 3 or 4 individuals to do well but I think Calzaghe, Hatton, Khan and Froch are all big enough to rise to the occasions this year and I expect big things from Arthur and Dunne as well.
Chin up matey, it's not all doom and gloom :)
Re: HOW AWESOME IS 2007 SHAPING UP?!?!?!
It sure is starting to look good on paper...Except we are not getting the fights of importance.....We need unifacation fights in every division!!!!!....Forget title fights...UNIFACATION!!!!
Re: HOW AWESOME IS 2007 SHAPING UP?!?!?!
Daxx I know you write for the site and are surely very knowledgable..... i just don't see what the big deal with unification is??? I want to watch great fights.....I don't care if the winner gets celery sticks. in fact when they do win belts (not even unifying) they have to give them up or face a bunch of shit opponents. maybe if the powers that be made legit mandatories then winning a title would be a great thing.

Unify???....What do you mean why???...When we have unifaction we have one champion.....That means we know who the best is.....Not who was able to win a title but who the best is....We can not have 4 world champions...That means 4 guys are the best?...No it doesn't work like that...are there 4 super bowls??
Once you have only one champion the ratings improve...Why because not every division will be able to put jobbers in their top 10....That leaves the top 10 just what it says...The top 10.....Now every championship fight is exactly that A championship fight...not a title fight.....With the top 10 being composed of nothing but the best and not guys who snuck in under the radar..what does that give?....All the best fighting the best...Guys with quality wins not quanity...The pretenders get weeded out and we get what we pay for......Simple process...It is the powers that be who are money hungry that make it difficult
Re: HOW AWESOME IS 2007 SHAPING UP?!?!?!
It's pretty good I guess except my two favorite fighters are hurting a bit. Lacy is sidelined for all the year and Wright is in limbo. I was a lot more excited about 2006 then I was this. Although Sam Peter looks like he could have a big year.
Some good fights though. Adamek - Dawson is going to be awesome.

:coolclick: gam, so far its looking like this could be the best year of boxing in quite some time. we seem to be having ral quality fighters fighting eachother, sure there are still some dogy fights being made, and to many 'warm ups' but i think just before 08 we will be agreeing this is the best year of boxing in a hell of along time.

Re: HOW AWESOME IS 2007 SHAPING UP?!?!?!
cc BACK pREME AND add to that list a possible darkhorse for fight of the year:
Julio Diaz v Jesus Chavez!!!
Manny Pacquiao-In Jin Chi!!!
This is amazing!!!!!!!!
Re: HOW AWESOME IS 2007 SHAPING UP?!?!?!
Not much for Pac - he hasn't got much worthy opponents with uncle Bob, with Valero opting out for the year. But In Jin Chi for a tune-up!? Oh boy, I wonder how long my boy will last like that.
