PRIME MIKE TYSON VS MUHAMMED ALI
You know the men,
over 12 rounds of boxing,
in their prime,
using COMMON training techniques.
Who would win?
I say Mike Tyson. He had good head movement and could get on the inside quickly and work the body/head with his power. He was a better puncher than
Joe Fraizer who didn't fair too badly against Ali.

Re: PRIME MIKE TYSON VS MUHAMMED ALI
I really hate to be a party pooper and all that....but we had one of these threads just a while back and it didnt end for about 17 years and it really got taken as far as it could go.
I say Tyson decisions him, but really its all been argued before...

I can argue until im blue in the face but to keep repeating is gotdam boring! You are a Tyson man and so am I and so we will keep on agreeing. But for this thread, I will opt out. Others can perpetuate another same styled thread if they will....

Re: PRIME MIKE TYSON VS MUHAMMED ALI
Ali in his prime would've run circles around Tyson, just like he did to everyone else. I don't think there's much for discussion here. Ali in his prime was the most physically gifted and mentally tough heavyweight of all-time, Tyson was not.

Re: PRIME MIKE TYSON VS MUHAMMED ALI
Tyson's prime was very short 2 years maybe,, when he was fight 4 5 fights a year ! when he had the right support system in place. he would beat anyone in any era . Tyson was a finally tuned machine once upon a time . O0

i did see tyson struggle against tony tucker first 4 rounds and tucker won 4 rounds against prime tyson by sticking and moving but he couldnt keep it up a prime ali with much better footwork and alot quicker than tucker would dance for 12 rounds winning a decision

Re: PRIME MIKE TYSON VS MUHAMMED ALI
This is how I see the fight going.
Rd1-4. Ali moves around opponant (like against Liston) and check opponants movement while jabbing and jab/crossing. Tyson gets inside ocassionally and starts throwing bombs to the body (like against Spinks).
Rd5-8. Ali scoring with the jab and using his reflexes to avoid Tyson. Tyson sometimes just following Ali losing points. Tyson catches Ali on the robes a couple of times and unloads.
Rd9-12. Tyson starts increasing his punching volume like against Bruno and wears Ali down. Ali takes the punishment and makes it to the end.
Tyson wins on points as the fight turns to his advantage mid-way through.

i disagree it would be tyson that wears down the stretch ali had best stamina in hw history

Re: PRIME MIKE TYSON VS MUHAMMED ALI
2 me prime Ali is 1966 to when he went to jail. Nobody could touch him. Not even the Tyson that KO'd Spinks.
-
Re: PRIME MIKE TYSON VS MUHAMMED ALI
ali beat liston -foreman and shavers--ali would b able 2 take any punch tyson can throw at him--ali would make tysons face look like it went through a meat grinder--b4 the fight ali would play with tysons head-phycing him out--which would b easy since tyson was mentally weak--
ali by ud or late ko

Tyson was not physically or mentally weak in his prime. He was unstoppable!

Frazier did not face prime Ali, plus Frazier had more heart & stamina than Tyson.
Tyson was too mentally weak to live with Ali.
Ali by late TKO, easily.

Tyson was not physically or mentally weak in his prime. He was unstoppable! = why do tyson fans keep saying he was unstoppable no he wasnt and look what i posted

so in 1987 against tucker do you class that as prime tyson just curious

Re: PRIME MIKE TYSON VS MUHAMMED ALI
tyson wud lose..he was never as gud as frazier, or foreman or most of the great heavyweights tbh
ali wud dance round him, pick him to shreds with his jab and right hands..tyson wud then get frustrated leaving himself even more open

Prime Tyson was alot more skilled then both Frazier and Foreman IMO.

He may have been more skilled, but he did not have their heart.
Ali would have taken him to the trenches & when you took Tyson to the trenches, he folded like a newspaper.

Ali never went to jail or prison.

Re: PRIME MIKE TYSON VS MUHAMMED ALI
Tyson by ko or tko. THe problem with Ali is that he kept his hands down, and guys like Liston were just barely missing him... put Tyson's speed in there and Ali can't compensate.
-
Re: PRIME MIKE TYSON VS MUHAMMED ALI
My final words....
Ali is just a man, not a God.
He can jab, but Tyson would move in past the jab and punch him.
Tyson might do some leaping punches to bridge the distance quicker.
Once he starts landing, its a matter of time till a hurt Ali gets floored.
Ali might not get KO, but he would lose by TKO imho.
Tyson has the head speed to upset Ali's jabs.

Re: PRIME MIKE TYSON VS MUHAMMED ALI
Not at all ICE COLD.
Tyson is made for beating a guy like Ali... look how Patterson was able to hit Ali with that leaping left hook, now put in Tyson, and ALi is fucked.
-
Re: PRIME MIKE TYSON VS MUHAMMED ALI
tyson had trouble with quick tillis-he beat him but not by much, i dont even think a prime tyson could beat a prime holmes, and if he cant beat a prime holmes, thers no way he could beat a prime ali--sure patterson was able to land some good punches on ali..but he lost, tyson would have 2

Re: PRIME MIKE TYSON VS MUHAMMED ALI
I think you have all missed the most inportant element of this post
he said "Using common training techniques"
In other words take away the 30 year differance in the sports evolution.
Ali in a time machine.
If Ali had his hands full with a slower shuffle-bob frazier.
A guy with much less size, skill, speed, quickness, power and killer instinct than Tyson. And really jsut a one punch looping jump left hook . HOW?? would he handle TYSON?
Now Modern Ali? Ali in 2007 at 22 years old and 15 years modern training under his belt?
Thats a whole different question.

Re: PRIME MIKE TYSON VS MUHAMMED ALI
u take tyson on his best night and ali on his best night and u got a hell of a fight that can go either way

Seriously, how many times are you going to use that lame Tony Tucker agrument about Tyson. Tucker was well beaten. Yeh he won a couple of rounds, look at the rounds Ali lost - in championship fights boxers lose rounds!!
P.S Tucker was something like 35-0 (31) when he fought Tyson and 6 years later had still only lost once and was 49-1 and number 1 contender to Lewis
So losing 3 rounds to Tucker in a Unification Heavyweight title fight doesn'treally stand up as an argument against Tyson ;)
Bet you wondered how long it would take me to enter this thread ;D
Oy Oy Miles - keep it real bruv :D

Ali was not in his prime in 1971.
He took on Frazier too early into his comeback, but that is the measure of the man.
Had the 1967 Ali fought the 1971 Frazier, it would have been a different result.

its not lame arguement tyson was in his prime against tucker i have to say him because if i say razor ruddock or douglas people have the excuse that tyson was past his prime and ill keep saying it when people keep saying tyson was unbeatable yes tucker had good record but off who though exactly ??only two decent fighters he beat was douglas and douglas was ahead in the fight until he got stopped and tucker also beat an ok james broad so he hadnt really beaten anyone when he fought tyson and ali and holmes are twice as good as tucker and it seemed to me he was doing good first 4 rounds until he couldnt keep it up seriously tyson is overrated in my book good yea but not unbeatable like people try and make out
and ps he won 4 rounds ;)

Ali in his prime lost rounds also. At one time Tyson really had the leverage, power, and the stamina and determination to beat anyone.. I believe he would have beat Ali.. Ali could be hit, even as Cassus Clay he would get cracked. Had that been a prime Mike Tyson and not George Chuvalo 34 win and 11 loses Ali fought in 1966 I think Ali would get knocked out fairly quick. Just my estimation . O0
-
Re: PRIME MIKE TYSON VS MUHAMMED ALI
Tyson would be very suspectible to Ali's mind games as well
-
Re: PRIME MIKE TYSON VS MUHAMMED ALI
IMHO Iron Mike had a style that was tailor made to beat Ali prime vs. prime. On the flip side I imagine that prime Liston, Foreman, Marciano, Tua, and Ibeabuchi had the best styles and abilities to beat prime Tyson. Tyson seemed like the kind of fighter that had to be beaten by KO and I don't think that Ali had the power to do that against one of the best punch slipping heavyweights of all time. A fighter with a granite chin and tons of power that could catch Mike with the perfect punch would be the perfect match against him. I got a lot of love for both Ali and Tyson because they brought so much excitement and attention to the sport of boxing.

Re: PRIME MIKE TYSON VS MUHAMMED ALI
Mike Tyson had 28 Wins in a row then he had the Heavyweight belt.
Most ended in TKO or KO in round 1, 2 or 3. Never won on points. Says it all!
Muhammad Ali had won 20 times in a row to win the Heavyweight belt.
Only 1 fight ended in round 1.

what does that prove ?? we know tyson hits harder doesnt mean he would win just because he has more power does it ??

Good point, agreed.
