Tyson's next 3 possible opponents:
Roy Jones Jr, James Toney, Chris Byrd.
I think Mike should give it another go. He's only 40, and plenty of guys fight well into their 40's nowadays, Holyfield just beat Oquendo last month, and he's 43 I think. Plus Tyson needs the dough, esp now he's gonna serve some time in Phoenix for coke possession.
I believe if someone can re-engineer him, like they did with Foreman, I mean let Tyson throw 100 jabs a round, he's got a great power jab, he can even double and triple it up, Ive seen him do it, and forget the damn old style power swarmin garbage, his legs wont allow that anymore, and his loss of head movement.
I feel he can beat guys by pacing himself, counterpunching more, and jabbing thier heads off--OH also, FIGHTING SOMEBODY CLOSER TO HIS OWN SIZE THAN LENNOX LEWIS OR THAT BIG IRISH GUY.
I sure would love a Tyson/Holyfield 3. What about a Tyson/Holmes 2?? If I were Larry Id go for the revenge at this point.

Re: Tyson's next 3 possible opponents:
Not a good idea..
Tyson had been staying fairly quiet up to this point.. Just doing his thing and getting by..
Its a damn shame that he got involved in that stuff... Maybe more a shame he got caught..
But no i dont think he should make a comeback atall....
In fact.. I really cant see him beating roy, evander , Chris or James Toney.
His record doesnt do him justice already.. He still has some legacy left and let him get by on what he can.
Peace

Re: Tyson's next 3 possible opponents:
what you say makes sense, but I think he can still do it
-
Re: Tyson's next 3 possible opponents:
No way he'll ever make a serious comeback now, hes way past it and doesnt even want to anymore. Youre right in that he needs the money but he'll make what he needs just from exhibitions. Considering he can still get a PPV audience for what is basically a sparring session theres no need for him to try again in a sport he just doesnt have the heart for anymore let alone the actual ability for nowadays. Im a big fan of his but he should of quit way before he did and it would be a shame to see hi damage his record and his legend any more than he already has.

No he can't.
He knows what it takes to do it and he knows he doesn't have what it takes.
I wish he had it too, but you gotta know when to fold it. Actually he didn't fold soon enough..

Re: Tyson's next 3 possible opponents:
Changing Tyson's style isn't that easy. It's like taking a square wheel and then making it triangular and saying its better "because it has one less bump!"
At fourty to try and become something he never was is not likely.
That only happens in rocky movies. Some styles foster longevity, Big power hitters and guys with good sound technical skills, like Foreman and Lewis. Tysons style was Based on speed, quickness and expending huge amounts of energy with the upper body bob. Even when he was young he couldn't do it for 10 rounds. Poke him with a fork and you'll see.....He's done. As far as legacy goes..for boxing fans memories of a great explosive exciting fighter whos ability may be overrated in the minds of some as time goes by. For the general public,he'll become just another tragic oddity with a wierd wrinkly face tattoo

Re: Tyson's next 3 possible opponents:
Mike Tyson is 18 years past his prime. His life has been falling apart for about that same length of time.
He needs to spend his time trying to avoid prison, getting some counseling, and getting his life together. Not boxing.
Tyson's years as a legit fighter are OVER. And they have been for a long time. I'm not directing this comment at any one person in particular, but Tyson fans are far and away the most irrational fanbase in boxing.

40 is a number.
Tyson is old... 35... 40... what ever the condition he is in is 'old' especially for that will always fundamentally be his style.
-
Re: Tyson's next 3 possible opponents:
Tyson is an old 40....Very old 40...Also not every fighter is able to be competitive at that age the few who are still able are rare cases...and they took very good care of them selves...Plus their styles allowed them to be able to stay around that long...Or in cases of guys like Virgil Hill they took some time off from the ring....Tyson is unable to pull the trigger anymore that right there is a big factor...It is also the same thing that is starting to hurt Jmaes Toney...Tyson is done and has been for a long long time

Agreed...Toney can be somewhat effective coming along forty..Because if he's on his best night..He can still sit on the ropes and counter his way to a fair decision against most of the bums in the hw division..
But tyson's style could not be reserected now...
Its not his age..But what he did at what age to loose what he once had..
Most of all..He just doesnt seem to have the same heart anymore..He knows he's done..He want to keep his legacy..And its only fair he stays retired.

This is exactly right. Tyson is not your average 40 year old, he was already fighting title fights at the age of 20. He's been thru a lot of wear and tear.
Also, the fighters who are able to stay competitive at advanced ages are tall fighters who can use their reach to win fights without having to absorb much contact. Shorter fighters with short arms like Tyson and Frazier need to absorb punishement and constantly come forward to get to their opponent. These type of fighters don't have a long lifespan. Frazier never won a fight after the age of 31. Tyson never won a title fight after the age of 30, and never beat a really dangerous opponent after the age of 25.

Re: Tyson's next 3 possible opponents:
You know the funny thing is you mention roy jones jr...
But actually i believe after the ruiz fight..
Which may have been just before or just after The terrible performance against danny williams...
Ro had just gained the heavyweight title and was saying i want one more fight ..
And i want it to be tyson.. And roy would have beat tyson and retired..
And we all know that tarver annoyed him down to lightheavy and lost one..Then sparked him...
If only tyson had taken the fight :-\ :'( LOL :P
Peace

I was just about to post along these lines, Tyson is going downtown, a real shame that the only thing he's training for now is his wet hand soap holding technique :o
-
Re: Tyson's next 3 possible opponents:
HAHAHA
Honestly IF and that's a BIG IF Mike was still fighting he'd be best served to fight the following
1. Wladimir Klitschko...get your money out of your ass whipping
2. Nicolay Valuev....he got stunned by Monte Barrett, you can hit harder than that can't you Mike???
3. Shannon Briggs, HUGE fight at MSG
others he COULD have fought and had a good chance at
James Toney
Chris Byrd
Jameel McCline
DaVaryl Williamson
Joe Mesi
Tommy Morrison
-
Re: Tyson's next 3 possible opponents:
...oh and last but not least Riddick Bowe....HUGE fight at MSG
-
Re: Tyson's next 3 possible opponents:
Any opponent and any venue would be a huge money making fight for Tyson, no matter what you rate his chances of winning (no matter who hes fighting) theres still plenty of people who'd pay to watch it. But whats important is that he doesnt want to fight again and knows that he cant - and as much as ive enjoyed watching him in the past im glad hes called it a day. Fighting on will at best only serve to damage his image and the memory of whats been a great career and at worst really hurt the guy. Hes done.

Re: Tyson's next 3 possible opponents:
I'll stop believing in Tyson when they bury him. When you think about how great he was and the respect he gets now, it's mindboggling. Tyson on his best day, would have beaten any other HW on their best day.
-
Re: Tyson's next 3 possible opponents:
except Ali... though if they fought 10 times in their prime Tyson would probably win a few... :P

Lol...CC for the Purdy

Re: Tyson's next 3 possible opponents:
Tyson is more washed up than Danny Williams' favourite plate!
It would not be a good idea for him to return in any capacity.
Short pressure fighters only have short primes & his prime was TWENTY years ago.

I agree that Ali because of his cleverness and great chin would have the best chance but I think Tyson would get the better of a 10 fight series cause Ali's chin would be softened up a little each time.

Tyson's next opponent could be against some big sweaty and hairy inmate name Joe in Prison

I still think Tyson should stay retired, as I posted earlier.
However, Tue vs Tyson is the fight I wanted to see back in the late 90's in one of the tyson comebacks.
I was feeling these big heavyweights were getting too big for tyson.
Tua Tyson would have been THE brawl of the 90's if it ever happened.

i think prime holmes would beat tyson aswell and ali aswell and no tyson wouldnt beat ali in series of 10 imo

tyson doesnt have heart and determination, like holyfield......otherwise he could still be a good fighter

I agree. Tyson's style is not going to present him with any chance of a successful comeback. At least the style he had the last few years he fought. That of a free swinging head hunter. At least the 1985-90 version of Tyson had patience and the attitude of a cagey tiger, looking for the right time to pounce, rather than swing all over the place and hope he hit something.....Jody
