Finally...after all these years...Bernard Hopkins vs Roy Jones jr II in July?
If there are any doubts that this fight will come off, let them be tempered by the fact that this is the only significant bout that includes Jones' name. After missing an opportunity to make a PPV appearance against either Manny Siaca or Peter Manfredo, Jones has nothing else.
For Hopkins, this means that the ball is finally in his court. He and his team are setting the terms, including a 60-40 split of the money in Hopkins' favor.
It begs us to recall one of HBO Boxing's most memorable moments: After disposing of Carl Daniels, Hopkins desperately tried to pitch a rematch at Jones, via satellite while preparing for Glen Kelly, repeatedly said, "60/40, I'll kick your a**!"
Funny how things have changed in the five years since.

So...if it happens...this is a tuff one to pick a winner for me. Honestly...I would want to see Roy win his last few fights...but seeing as he'll be fighting my number one guy...then I'd love to see him TKO Jones.
Then again...being a fan of Jones...I really don't want him to get stopped again...atleast not as viciously as he was against Glen Johnson.
Still...I'm picking Hopkins by decision.

Thanks for the news....
Well, what can I say?
Are they gonna be allowed to take their 'walkers' into the ring? :(
Why? Thats like seeing ODLH vs. Tito in '07..... (Which I still wan't to see) :-\

Re: Finally...after all these years...Bernard Hopkins vs Roy Jones jr II in July?
For the record, I'm taking Hopkins by a lop sided beat down.....
-
Re: Finally...after all these years...Bernard Hopkins vs Roy Jones jr II in July?
Its a fight that should have happened 5 years ago. It will be interesting to see what Jones can bring to the table, but I think Hopkins superior technique and conditioning would lead to a UD win...

Re: Finally...after all these years...Bernard Hopkins vs Roy Jones jr II in July?
this would would have been a great fight 5 years ago. now it just seems like a payday
-
Re: Finally...after all these years...Bernard Hopkins vs Roy Jones jr II in July?
Theres no reason for this fight now as everyones saying - five years ago this would have been great!
There were also talks of them meeting a while back when they were both coming off loses and it would of made sense then. No doubt theres a lot of money to be made from this though.

Re: Finally...after all these years...Bernard Hopkins vs Roy Jones jr II in July
Hopkins will murder him withe ease..Jones has been shot for a while now imo
-
Re: Finally...after all these years...Bernard Hopkins vs Roy Jones jr II in July
It wont look pretty for Roy Jones but I am rooting for him to get a win, especially on this one. I think it would be nice if he can get win before he exits the game.

Re: Finally...after all these years...Bernard Hopkins vs Roy Jones jr II in July?
I don't care about what everyone is saying, rjj vs. bhop, 20 years ago,10 years ago 5 yeats ago or today, it doesn't matter, this is roy jones j.r and bernard hopkins this is BIG!...
the casual fan may think this be a boring chess match, because only the truest fans can appreciate these two greats in a triller of who makes first mistake.
should be great, the immortal executioner will win this by u.d...hopefully its close enough to buy in a trilogy.

Re: Finally...after all these years...Bernard Hopkins vs Roy Jones jr II in July?
I am surprised that Jones had the courage to take this fight, Hopkins has so much more gas left in his tank than Jones. Hopkins is going to make this guy pay for what happen in their first fight. Expect to see a similiar fight to what you saw with Jones Vs Tarver 3. A lopsided beatdown. So many athletes (In all sports) can't seem to except that they are not what they use to be and want that rush of being on top again. Jones is one of those guy's.

Oddly enough...I think that this might actually turn into a fight...for both of them.
They'll both have something to prove here & will most likely give it their all. Jones didn't look bad against Prince Baji-adjumanji or whatever his name was & Hopkins looked stellar against Tarver.
I'd like to think that this is going to be a good showing for both men.
We shall see.

Re: Finally...after all these years...Bernard Hopkins vs Roy Jones jr II in July?
Why is it always after the fight has no bearing on anything that they ever get made???
-
Re: Finally...after all these years...Bernard Hopkins vs Roy Jones jr II in July
I really dont have too much to think about the fight...
I wana see it..Badly...
But i also think... That when they fought the first time.. Ro was prime or coming just up to it...
And bernard was good.. But didnt quite peak until very late... But now its on the other hand..In a worse way for roy...
Amazingly bernard is still looking good.. And roy might be past it a bit...
It all depends on bernards performance and game plan imo...
If bernard fights the way he did against jermaine.. and doesnt throw enough or stay budy..Then roy will make the space to score the points.. And he has been working the body well in his last fight..I think he's going to stick to that.. And if that happens Roy ud..
But If Bhop fights like he did with tarver..And uses good movement..Leaps in and out like textbook hopkins style..He'll break down jones's effectiveness and will over twelve and keep scoring..
Plus bernard knows all the tricks with holding and hitting and punches your arse and hips..
Masterful if you dont mind seeing it..But it does the damage over twelve...
Its in bernards hands really..
I cant see bernard letting this one go though..I think it'll go ud. for bernard..But i wish roy would win it and get outa the game.

I believe that if Jones pulls the upset (he will be the underdog) that it will give credibility to Tarver's victories over Jones. Tarver will immediately say "see I beat Roy when he was still in his prime". Roy's legacy is great, I don't know what he is trying to gain, But Bernard want's to avenge his loss.

Re: Finally...after all these years...Bernard Hopkins vs Roy Jones jr II in July?
Man, im sickened that this fight is happening. What purpose does this serve? Jones is shot to bits, its just petty for Hopkins to choose this fight.
-
Re: Finally...after all these years...Bernard Hopkins vs Roy Jones jr II in July
honestly its who ur a fan of cuz its to close to call becausewe still dont know what a year of layoof will do to bernard at this age
there first fight was kind of competetive but then again jones hand was broken
jones showed he still got speed in his last 2 fights
and stylisticly jones always had the edge over bernard in there styles
but bernard doesnt fade at the end he just gets stronger so jones will be in danger alll 12 rounds and we all know he doesnt want to get cought
but does hopkins have the power?
so to me its jones but just cuz i like jones more.... thats what it comes down to cuz at the end of the day i know none of u have a clue

Re: Finally...after all these years...Bernard Hopkins vs Roy Jones jr II in July
Im picking BHOP by decision, as i think his style has been much less eroded with age then RJJ's. Also just look at both of their last fights.

Yeh i know what you mean..
I mean tarver is way different then badi ajamu...
But its the more unorthadox that jones gets the better he does... I saw it in his last fight ..
He didnt pick up really till about the third or fourth round and then when he kinda started to get his rythym going he looked nice..Reminiscent of the old Roy jones...
But roy needs to stay elusive or bernard will give a tito and tarver job on roy..
-
Re: Finally...after all these years...Bernard Hopkins vs Roy Jones jr II in July?
RJJ by ud, its just gunna happen;)
-
Re: Finally...after all these years...Bernard Hopkins vs Roy Jones jr II in July?
I think with the Roy Jones chin being recently exposed., accompanied by inactivity .. I would go with Hopkins in this match , winner by 7th R KO . One could make a strong case for Roy winning a Dec. no doubt,. O0

Re: Finally...after all these years...Bernard Hopkins vs Roy Jones jr II in July?
Mass crowd boos ensue at two minutes into the first round
-
Re: Finally...after all these years...Bernard Hopkins vs Roy Jones jr II in July?
Alright heres the deal... I'm a fan of both, I like Nards Defensive mastery, I also like Roys Flashy style. It is a real tear me open and pour me out as a Boxing Fan.... I am guessing that this fight takes place at 175 lets look at this closely for a second..
Roy still possess more athletic quality than Hopkins at this stage, Roy is quicker, faster hands more power especially at 175.. I mean Nard hasnt been setting the world on fire with workrate, but I see a very methodical chess match and I think Roy will outwork Bernard..
Bernard is content on putting one punch at a time and Roy is still Flurrying I just see Roy putting that much more effort... Remember an Average Roy is still better than most above average fighters...
I'll weigh in further with B-Hops advantages as the fight approaches.
-
Re: Finally...after all these years...Bernard Hopkins vs Roy Jones jr II in July?
The first fight was a gem, Jones had the measure of B-hop, now its Hopkins time, payback's a motherfucker ain't it, Y'all musta forgot!
-
Re: Finally...after all these years...Bernard Hopkins vs Roy Jones jr II in July?
I see Hopkins going all out for this one and scoring a stoppage. Just my thoughts....jody

LOL. Agreed. Hopkins by exceptionally boring UD. Hopkins fought a tactically masterful fight against Tarver, but nonetheless, these guys have combined to throw about seven punches total in their last six fights. I also think their first fight has absolutely no bearing on this--Roy's style succeeded in his prime because of his athleticism, and I think he would have beaten B-Hop 99 times out of 100 then. But for the same reason, he's slipped WAY more than Hopkins (who's gotten a lot less active and boring to watch, but hasn't really become any less effective at winning--with the exception of Taylor II). As enticing as the names are, it's only because of what this would have been in 2000 or so. I won't be paying $50 for this in 2007--happy to wait a week for the free replay.

Re: Finally...after all these years...Bernard Hopkins vs Roy Jones jr II in July?
Hopkins wins this battle of the geriatrics by ud. Roy starts running as soon as Bernard hits him flush, and doesn't stop until the scores are read or until he breaks a hip.... I just think, as many others have said, that B-hop has more left in the tank and IMO he has shown more ability against a higher level of competition in his last few fights, despite "losing" 2 of his last 3...
-
Re: Finally...after all these years...Bernard Hopkins vs Roy Jones jr II in July?
jones has too many bad habits and he won't beat hopkins at this point. roy can't do the samethings that he did in 93 but hopkins can.
-
Re: Finally...after all these years...Bernard Hopkins vs Roy Jones jr II in July?
I think Hopkins attacks from the start ! I know I would, I would want to force as many exchanges as possible.. get the Jones chin checked.. , if you don't get the desired result then settle down a bit.. O0
