Prime Mike Tyson Vs Rocky Marciano

A prime Mike Tyson would of cleaned the Rock's clock faster than you can cross a road. Rocky Marciano didn't have the movement of Tyson or the head/hand speed either.

Rocky Marciano isn't great and here's why:

1. Jersey Joe Walcot had his last 2 carer fights against Rocky before retiring i.e. was past his best when he met the Rock.

2. Archie Moore was 39 when he fought a 32 year old Rocky and Archie was past his best by then as well.

3. Joe Lewis last fight was against Rocky when he was well finished.

4. Couldn't box for sh*t!

5. Ringcraft was not good in comparison to Ali or Tyson.

Prime Mike Tyson vs a Prime Rocky Marciano

All true points, but those things are not his fault. He fought everyone around and is the victim of the fact there was not a great rivalry to be had.

BUT ..... Rocky never lost so nobody can really see the circumstances in which he was beaten. He had one of the hardest punches in history, was supremely conditioned at all times, a real pro, and he had heart and guts that would shame many other great fighters. His chin and resilience was something to behold.

Whay would happen if Tyson came out and bombed him for five rounds, and the Rock was still there, chugging forward. I think something might short-circuit in Tyson's brain.

I like posts that debate who would have won between two great fighters, but not to the extent that the sole premise is to denigrate one of them!

Tyson would see the telegraphed punches coming and move. And Rocky would feel twice as tired from the missing and get hit. TKO for Iron Mike.

Lets look at this like pundits.

Rocky was flat footed. He didn't move around the ring quickly.

Tyson would know when he came forward, start a combo and rocky the Rock.

If Tyson did this enough, there is a good chance he could TKO the Rock or

daze the Rock and shoot scoring punches.

rocky is way to old school he stands and hoped for the best when he throws a punch tyson had tachnique and good movemnt i got rocky gettin his ass beat ... no disrespect to the legend but he is an old school fighter the sprts evolved

Agreed that Iron Mike had a better mastery of the fundamentals than the Brockton Blockbuster but prime Tyson went into his fights to seek and destroy his opponents so that might not matter as much as some might think. Regardless of what some may say about Rocky's competition (which is by no means any fault of Marciano) he took on all comers and had tremendous power, chin, and heart. He had the chin to stay with Mike for several rounds and he had the power to catch Tyson with a KO punch. I think that this one could go either way.

Marciano is DEF a great boxer, to suggest otherwise is darft. And IMO he is one of the greatest of all time. I take a Prime Tyson in this one though, but then again i take a prime Tyson against anyone!

i think tyson because he was overall better fighter and had better technique im not normally the one that sides with tyson but in this case im going with a tyson win

yeah would go with tyson on this one seen alot of there fights. marciano always with a punchers chance tho

Completely different eras. The sports so different to when rocky fought. Also hes gotta be a hell of a lot smaller than Tyson. Not even a close fight if you ask me.

he showed no charcter whatsoever when he lost to douglass, he quit on his stoll agaisnt mccline when he, and he wasnt injured, he just didnt feel like fight anymore. he bit holyfeilds ear(real class act), hes tried to break fighters arms. he is a loser and a bum, im glad hes doen fighting. marciano wouldve taken his shots, and when tyson realized that rocky was standing up to him, it would be buster douglas all over again.

This isn't even a debate. Tyson is way better. Marciano against Joe Louis in his prime, Sonny Liston, Muhammad Ali, Larry Holmes, Bowe, Holyfield, Tyson, Lewis, Frazier, Foreman... any of those guys flaten him... He is a tiny heavyweight who was like lucky to fight in an even worse division than now, and any heavyweight great would destroy him. Tyson is faster, stronger, had a better defense, hit harder, Marciano is overwhelmed in all his best aspects, but his heart, and that isn't enough if a guy is enough better than you... think ODLH vs. Gatti or Mayweather vs. Gatti, and thats an example of this fight.

Tyson flattens him in a couple of minutes every time and thats not to say that Marciano was so bad, just that the sport has come so far since his time. Put all natural ability aside and just consider the advances in training techniques and the conditioning of the fighters - most boxers of today would surely beat most boxers of Marcianos time. Hell, back them most of them had full time jobs as well as their boxing career.

Yet everyone(like Jim Lampley) wants to talk about how vastly overrated Tyson's record is because he came along a weak Heavyweight division but treats Marciano and Vitali like the Masiah ::**

I know im going of the subject here but anyone know why Marciano retired when he did? I mean 49 fights undefeated - why not take one more and retire on 50? Was he somehow forced into retiring through injury or something, I have no idea but it just seems weird you wouldnt make it to 50. Only one fight more but just sounds so much more impressive.

They will fight someday in the after life. We'll just have to wait and see in heavon.

I'm another who is not inclined to side with Tyson and I'm on record many times calling him overrated. That being said, He takes Rocky, and that's coming from a guy who lives 20 minutes from Brockton. Both were swarmers, both packed a punch. Even if think Rock had better one shot power ( I think he might have), Tyson was bigger, faster, and had better D. In a battle between swarmers, bigger, faster, and more movement will win unless the slower guy is much more skilled. Rock wasn't more skilled than Tyson. The only clear advantage he had was heart. That wouldn't be enough. You need heart and a jab to beat Tyson.

Someone needs to call his/her sad clicks. I say nothing inflamatory and get a sad click? Makes no sense.

joe louis beat a 37 yr old man fot the title so u cant diss rocky--plus louis oppostion was practically the same as rockys. tyson had no oppostion as well--and rocky was a puncher not a boxer--he did pretty good for a guy with the shortest arms in heavyweight history

realistically i think tyson would win--but prime tyson could also flatten louis as well

Not to start a second debate, but Prime Louis has a much better chance. He could jab, move, and box, as well as punch like a truck. Prime Louis kills Rocky and could at least matchup with Tyson.

Takin out the whole fighters have advanced so far stuff, let's say rocky and tyson were in the same era, and tyson didn't have "more advanced training", I'd side with rocky. I don't see tyson being able to break rockys will, and rocky would just hang in there and stay on him, and eventually catch tyson with something, that tyson couldn't take, and it be rocky victory.

Tyson didn't use advanced training... when in his prime he did things old school, and was taught how to be an old school fighter... he simply a way superior athlete.

Son, you're out of your mind. Marciano posessed true grit, an indomitable will, and was mentally unshakeable. He posessed super human toughness, never got rattled and would have put Tyson out in 5.
The record speaks for itself...the only UNDEFEATED HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION EVER...and the GREATEST OF ALL TIME...... :army:

Agreed. :coolclick: Just look at who trained him- Cus D'Amato with Teddy Atlas as an assistant trainer. That says it all.

A truly prime pre Douglas....Tyson...The Tyson of lets say 1988...would walk through Marciano...TOOO Fast...TOOO Strong...TOOO Much defense to let Marciano get a clean shot...Rocky was floored by lesser hitting opp then Tyson...He got back up yes but if he did Tyson would maul him before the Rock could recover...Tyson in 6 or less

Tyson beats Marciano with relative ease....a beat down within 6

the fact is they dominated there division at there time, if rocky was around the same time as tyson the rock would have been a few inchs taller and 30 or more pounds heavier, if tyson was around when the rock ruled mike would be a smaller fighter, can you imagine the rock as a morden day heavy, he ko all the fat boys of today

I said advanced training in my post because I think someone brought that up as a justification as to why tyson would win, you know the whole sport has advanced so much argument that usually comes up when discussing a fight between 2 fighters from different eras...

this post is interesting in 1 respect and asinine in many others.

to say anything bad or detracting about a great, undefeated heavyweight champion of the world, and still the ONLY such character after over 50 years that he's been retired, is utterly sophomoric, not to mention nauseating.

the 1 interesting thing is how different the heavyeights and all fighting styles have become SINCE Marciano's time.

It is hard to imagine the allegedly sluggish flat footed Rocky against the lightning fast head bobbing Tyson. We're talking 30+ years difference (1955 and 1985, say). Its just as hard for me to picture JFK standing next to Brittney Spears and having a conversation.

One thing is for sure, Rocky never quit, and couldnt imagine ever losing, as he had said several times. One Suzie Q to Tyson's body and whimperin lil Mike would look at the ref and fall apart mentally.

Tyson would bite Rocky's ear, and it would be a DQ.

Rocky wins......Tyson has no heart, Rocky has a great chin and puts pressure on like no other heavyweight in history....15 round fight Rocky beats him easy

Yeh he'd be far to big for Rocky. Rocky would be somewhere between a light-heavy and a cruiser these with fighters weighing more and more.

Thats not me dissing Rcoky in any way, i'm just physically it would be a big ask.
