Witter/Morua and Daws/Morrison RBRs
Evning all,
The beer is in the fridge, the chips and dips are on the table, and the anticipation is starting to build. While everyone is looking forward to sterling performances by Hatton and Castillo to set up a superfight, there are some pretty decent appetisers in these two fights.
What I'm asking is is it worth me doing an RBR on the two fights on the British PPV to keep you going till the Vegas card gets under way?
I'll check back in an hour, and see what the lay of the land is.

Re: Witter/Morua and Daws/Morrison RBRs
OK then fellas....I guess it cant hurt none to put in some effort, so here's the schedule.
10.15pm (5.15pm EST) is the British Light Welterweight Title Bout between Lenny Daws and Barry Morrison
11.00pm (6.00pm EST) is the WBC Light Welterweight title bout between Junior Witter and Arturo Morua.
No guarantees on that schedule, but that's what I read earlier on. Brb with some preview type material.

Re: Witter/Morua and Daws/Morrison RBRs
Lenny Daws v Barry Morrison
Undefeated Lenny Daws (14-0, 6 KOs) comes into this bout as the British Light Welter champion, in this the night of the Light Welter division. For a young fighter he's been out of action for 8 months or so, and doesn't pack the biggest punch but works hard and wears down the opposition. He's a heavy odds favourite with the bookies, as are all of tonight's bouts on the Sky Box Office card.
Barry Morrison is slightly the heavier puncher of the two looking at the records (13-1, 7 KOs), picking up his only defeat against busy Romanian former Euro title challenger Mihaita Mutu. This is also his first time looking at going the full 12 rounds, although he has survived 10 in previous a previous victory.
My prediction, purely looking at the records, would be for a Daws win, asI'm not one to go against the bookies, but I wouldn't say he's as much of a favourite as the odds say, as Morrison's defeat was against a fairly decent fighter.

Re: Witter/Morua and Daws/Morrison RBRs
Ive picked the featherfisted Daws to stop Morrison ;D Good work mate ;) CC

Re: Witter/Morua and Daws/Morrison RBRs
Junior Witter v Arturo Morua
The second of the fights from Alexandra Palace in London is Witter v Morua...and should well be a reasonable fight, hopefully.
Junior Witter (34-1-2, 19KOS) won the WBC Light Welterweight title against DeMarcus Corley back in September, in a deserved, but rather tedious fight which included a remarkable 10 seconds plus standoff with no punches thrown between both fighters. His only loss came against Zab Judah fairly early in his career, and has since gone over six years undefeated, winning British, Commonwealth and European titles on the way. Witter needs to impress on this one, to dismiss the claims of the Hatton camp that he has been riding on the coattails of the Manchester man, and to solidify his own claims that he deserves a shot at Hatton.
Arturo Morua (24-7-1) is a bit of a journeyman coming into this bout, and although he has wins over Emanuel Augustus and Carlos Maussa, has lost many of his bouts moving up through the ranks through latino and mexican titles, and currently holds the WBO Inter-continental Light Welterweight title. Despite being a proud Mexican, he hasn't been KOd nor has he KOd any of his opponents in three years.
My guess, an absolute banker to go the 12 rounds....or maybe not :p

Re: Witter/Morua and Daws/Morrison RBRs
Sorry guys, the server booted me off , so here's my look at it so far:
Witter comes in looking his usual cocky self, but not exactly a rapturous welcome from the London crowd. A few boos for Morua but nothing too bad.
When Junior was announced as 'The Hitter', a few more jeers for Witter.
Round 1:
Witter starts in the orthodox stance, and connects with a decent overhand right. Unsurprisingly, it;'s quyite cagey. Morua pops a few jabs to test the water. Gentle right to the body by Witter. Decent jab by Morua. Nice hook from Witter. This is very slow, no wonder they are both 12-round wizards. Hook to the body, than a left hook upstairs stuns Morua a little. Witter swinging and missing. Morua grins at Witter. Clash of heads.
Tough one to call, a tie at the moment.
10-10
Round 2:
Witter now in the southpaw stance, and catches Morua with a jab. Left rocks Morua, and he bounces off the ropes, more as a momentum thing, rather than a damage thing. Nice left from Morua. Good straight left from Witter. More straights from Morua, as Witter edges forward. Nice left to the head by Morua coming out of a clinch. Decent jab by Morua. Rising right from Witter. Witter cockily struts forward, then finds gloves with an uppercut.
Witter takes it, but Morua doesn't look too hurt.
20-19
Round 3:
Another slow start. Good right and left uppercuts from Witter. Paws some jabs at Morua. All slows again. Pushes Morus back into the corner, but barely gets one hook to the body in, more shoving than anything else. Good left hook from Witter coming forward, and pushes Morua into a clinch. A bit of a hugfest this round.
Another Witter round, but not exactly electric entertainment.
30-28
Round 4:
Rising left hook connects from Morua. Jab to the body from Witter. Two pitter-patter jabs from Morua. Cagey. Again. Witter swings some uppercuts, but connects with nothing. Good hook coming out of the cinch from Morua. Hard right from Witter. Lots of wrestling again, as Witter looks to charge in, and Morua looks to spin him. Morua has a small cut on the left eye.
Tied IMO, Witter isn't looking to come forward, and Morua is much more accurate.
40-38
Round 5:
Guess what, it's cagey. Good hook from Witter, but Morua return with one. A btit of a flurry, but ends up in another clinch. Overhand right from Morua catches Witter, as he's switching back to orthodox. Witter jabs out of the southpaw, then switches. Morua swinging and finding the air before Witter's chin hard to penetrate. Clinch. Hook from Witter closes the round.
50-47, witters round.
Round 6:
Left hooks from each connect simultaneously. Nice left, right from Witter. Very slow round, with Witter jabbing a little more. Morua seems tired and Witter seems cautious. Witter warned by the ref for his behaviour in the clinch. Pair of left hooks from Witter.
Antoher Witter round, but hardl y scintillating.
60-56.
Round 7:
zzzzzzz. Witter clips Morua as he stumbles onto his knees, but ref rules a slip. Morua staying at distance, most of Witter's work is lunging as he tries to come forward. Another clinch, bit of headbanging. Nice hook to the body from Morua. An uppercut in the clinch from Morua. Nice hook clips Morua.
Witter 's round.
70-65

Re: Witter/Morua and Daws/Morrison RBRs
stick with it mate ive just restarted the database and kicked out the guests ;)
-
Re: Witter/Morua and Daws/Morrison RBRs
Cheers Saddo
Round 8:
Good hooks and jabs from Witter. Morua not looking to be an impressive fighter. Overhand right from Witter, but Morua was already on the run. I'm very impressed the ref has got plastic gloves in the same colour as his green shirt. Looks like Morua will be happy to go the distance, no wonder they chose this kid for Witter. Couple of hooks in a clinch, Witter looking a bit frustrated. Nice shot from Witter, but Morua clinches.
another Witter round
80-74.
Morua needs a miracle, or a sub to step in the ring for him.
-
Re: Witter/Morua and Daws/Morrison RBRs
wooo hoooo good finish i dont care what anyone says i like watching witter fights 8)
-
Re: Witter/Morua and Daws/Morrison RBRs
Round 9:
Great uppercut from Witter and Morua looks shaken. More hoks from Witter and Morua is really shaken. And now Witter is cagey again. Come forward you prat. Decent hook from Morua. Hook to the boy from Witter. Another uppercut from Witter, and two hooks means Morua clinches. Big flurry of hooks from Witter. 8 count fro Morua. A few more punches from Witter, and the ref steps in.
A good finishing round from Witter, but why on earth did he not do this three or four rounds ago. He looked very good in that last round, but why wait for 9 bloody rounds?
-
Re: Witter/Morua and Daws/Morrison RBRs
That boy took some serious hits there, fair play to Witter, he can force the isue when he has to ;)

Really saddo? I thought it was pretty tedious stuff for the first eight rounds, and Morua should not have been in that ring really, except as a warm up for another fight.
Sorry for my scheduling mistakes, but it's Lenny Daws v Barry Morrison next. Witter looked alright in my view, but a little too cautious against someone out of his league for me.

Re: Witter/Morua and Daws/Morrison RBRs
Well, they're talking up Witter against diego Corrales as his next bout. Now that will show where Witter stands on the world stage, and he'll need a better performance then. He put down his rustiness due to a lack of sparring partners, so I guess I'll forgive him that one, but I truly hope he will get a true attackign fighter on is level next time out, to reallytest him.

Re: Witter/Morua and Daws/Morrison RBRs
Witters got the chin to keep him in fights and the punch to end them, I wish he would go for it more often. Its ok playing cat and mouse with the lower tier fighters but the top boys woint entertain it. He also looks far far more dnagerous as an orthodox fighter IMO. Switching for switchings sake most of the time.

I gotta agree with you onthe switching just for the sake of it issue. He got caught once square on while he was doing that tonight, and someone with a bit more meat in his gloves would have troubled him at that stage.

Re: Witter/Morua and Daws/Morrison RBRs
OK, second fight, and Morrison getting a decent welcome into the ring, he may have sold a couple of tickets! Considering that Lenny Daws is the London boy, I'm a little surprised Daws' welcome is not at all psitive. He's got a few whistles from the crowd, so they cranked up the dance music. Daws gets the height and reach advantage. It's sponsored by Lifestyle condoms. Am I the only one who finds this fact in a sport where lots of men hug each other for much of the fight amusing? Ah, only me then. :p
-
Re: Witter/Morua and Daws/Morrison RBRs
Round 1:
Exchange of jabs early on. Daws the more accurate, then catches Morrison with a couple of hooks. Morrison returns with a hook of his own. Daws chants appearing in the crowd now, he has some fans here after all. Morrison looking the bstronger and more muscular of the fighters. Nice flurry of short hooks from Daws. Morrison catches Daws with a nice hook, and Daws clinches.
Theyre both working hard, but that fine shot edges it for Morrison IMO.
10-9 Morrison
-
Re: Witter/Morua and Daws/Morrison RBRs
Round 2:
Nice left hook again from Morrison. He's pushing better. Nice flurry of pitter-patter straghts from Daws. Straight left from Morrison. A nice big long hug. Reasonable uppercut from Morrison. Nice left hook rocks Daws a little. Straights from Morrison. Daws leans into a clinch, and pushes Morrison back onto the ropes.
Another Morrison round 20-18.
-
Re: Witter/Morua and Daws/Morrison RBRs
Round 3:
Good combo of jabs and straights from Daws. Morrison's shots carry the more weight behind them. Nice straight left from Morrison. Couple of hooks from Daws....he's improving a little now. Morrison throws a big right, an upprcut and a left annd Daws moves into a clinch/wrestle. Nice body hook from Morrison. ANother shot to the head. Daws looks tired at the moment. Another good right from Morrison, but Daws throws a few shotrt hooks in the clinch.
Morrison again.
30-27
-
Re: Witter/Morua and Daws/Morrison RBRs
Round 4:
Nice jab by Morrison. Daws needs to step this up badly. Morrison seems the quicker early on. A flurry of straights and the last of the four moves through the Morrison guard. Body shot from Morrison. Another groping hug. Short left from Daws knocks the head back. Lots of swinging little contact from Daws at the moment, except in the clinch. Morrison picks off three nice hooks to the body, and an uppercut. Uppercut from Morrison. Late flurry from Daws, the hook knocking Morrison's head a little.
Enough work from Daws to tie this round, but Morrison still the more venomous puncher.
40-37

Re: Witter/Morua and Daws/Morrison RBRs
good scrap this one just wish the wife would shut up while im wating it :-X
-
Re: Witter/Morua and Daws/Morrison RBRs
Round 5: Daws wioth a few short hooks, but Morrison returns with some hard hurtful shots to the body, and up top. The cross on Morrisons shorts make him look a little like he wet himself. Daws caught on the way in, but then a clinch and Morrison leans on. Good pair of jabs from Daws, Morrison comes in and bangs the body again. An awful lot of clinching here again. Nice overhand left from Daws. Pair of uppercuts on the inside from Morrison. I shoulda whacked a few quid on Morrison. Daws ends with a jab and an uppercut.
Morrison takes this one again for me.
50-46

Tell her you'll give er a 'Morrison' ;)

Re: Witter/Morua and Daws/Morrison RBRs
Round 6:
Morrison looking focused, throwing harder body shots and some decent shots upstairs. Daws throws some hooks and jabs, but Morrison seems unfazed by everything from Daws so far. Another good flurry of hooks from Morrison, as Saddo says its a proper scrap. Daws with some short straights, and Morrison walks on with more punches. Daws throws some shots to the body, and a flurry connects too. Morrison gets caught with a couple of shots through the Morrison guard.
Daws is stepping it up, but Morrison still running this bout.
60-55 for my money.

So you want him to end up like Litzau and get knocked out instead of fighting a smart fight.
I've seen the Corley fight but I like Witter. If he sees the finish he takes it, otherwise he outboxes, its good to fight his kind of style and its what keeps him winning. If he always went for it he may be more exciting but then again he'd be more probably to loss. So he should keep doing what he does.

Re: Witter/Morua and Daws/Morrison RBRs
Round 7:
The corner trying to get Daws psyched up, he needs it. Tying up early on. Morrison with a pai of hooks connects. A nice left leaps up into Daws on the counter. Nice straight from Daws, but Morrison now starting to fight on the counter, as Daws looks to stay out of the tight stuff. Not working. Another hook from Morrison, and catches Daws again on the counter to the body. Nice jabs and uppercut from Morrison, Daws looks weary and frustrated at the moment.
Morrison takes yet another round.
70-64
-
Re: Witter/Morua and Daws/Morrison RBRs
Round 8:
Good rising hook from Morrison, he looks strong and fired up for this. Daws with his long shots arent doing much for Daws. Daws swings in the clinch, but weaker. Great combos fomr Daws. Massive hooks from Daws and Morrison looks very rocked and tired now, Daws must have caught Morrison with 7 or 8 big shots. Morrison lost his gumshield, gets a lucky break there. Morrison looking to tie on now, as Daws flows forward with some big hooks, Morrison's not protecting his head. More hooks from Daws, Morrison is exhausted.
What a round for Daws, must be a two pointer for me, as Morrison warranted an 8 count if he hadn't hjave lost the gumshield.
78-74 to Morrison - he may need that build up of round.
-
Re: Witter/Morua and Daws/Morrison RBRs
Round 9:
Cagier stuff from Morrison, he's got an eye on the final Bell. Daws with some hooks, but Morrison throwiung straights back at him. Nice hook from Morrison, Daws replies with a jab. More clinching now, but an uppercut from Morrison. Daws with a good straight , punches in the clinch. Good hooks from Daws and Morrison lunges, and misses, Daws refrains from hitting him on the back of the head. Morrison working hard, Daws looking classier now.
Tied Round for me.
88-84
-
Re: Witter/Morua and Daws/Morrison RBRs
Round 10:
Good flurry from Daws early doors. ;) Morrison's jabs are still strong. Daws with a good flurry. This is really getting competitive, Daws catching Morrison more now, but Morrison's punches are strong. Nice uppercut from Daws. Clenchin. Daws with some long shots. Good hook from Morison, Daws catches him on the way in. Daws with some hooks and straights, this is a really competitive round.
I'm not sure how to call it, and go the easy route down the middle.
98-84
-
Re: Witter/Morua and Daws/Morrison RBRs
Round 11:
Daws slow coming from the corner. Nice hook from Daws. Hooks replied by Morrison. Morrison cut on the nose, Daws takign over a little now, but Daws with a huge shot, and Morrison counters and clings on. Big right left hooks from Daws. Morrison looks done in, but throws punches back nonetheless, before clinching again. Morrison stumbles to the floor, but no knockdown, and he's hanging on again. Nice left from Daws, Morrison is hanging on like a limpet.
Daws round by a distance.
107-104
-
Re: Witter/Morua and Daws/Morrison RBRs
Round 12:
Morrison comes out with some hooks, then a flurry to the body, he's all or nothing now. Daws accurate with good hooks, Morrison clings on again. Daws the accurate shooter, but Morrison is hangin on. More hooks from Daws. Morrison is throwing, but not contacting. A good hook connects from Morrison. Body shot from Morrison, he's taking charge now, as they clinch once more. Daws tries to come forward, but hooks and jabs from Morrison. Big flurry from Morrison amd as he slumps into a clinch, he nearly falls from exhaustion! Great finish.
I have Morrison ahead by four rounds at the end.
Split Decision, 115-113 and 115-114 for Morrison, and one judge had it 117-112 for Daws.

Witter is trying to lure the big names into the ring. Is he going to get those names by being awkward and difficult to look good against?
Getting the win again Corley was one thing, he needed to get the job done no matter what. Now he is champion I want him to let it hang out a bit.

yeah mate he took it at 9 days notice and was negitave as fuck... tainted his USA credibility bigtime that fight.
but he can blow hot and cold on accasions but he has the belt and deserves his shot against the best IMO.
but he lives in Hattons shadow over here and its a shame really ;)
