Arum concluded the press conference by expressing that he wanted to place a side bet with Hatton's promoters. The bet: that more Mexicans will turn up than Brits for the fight. To this Hobson replied "Yeah to support Ricky, the white Mexican."

Castillo was damn lucky. He could have easily lost that fight on the scorecards. It was very very dicey.

I saw an Arum interview on Sky the other day where he said it would be at The Thomas & Mack Centre (18,000 capacity) on June 2nd. All the contracts had been signed.

Will the fight be spoiled if Hatton holds too much? Why does he hold so much?

Ricky Hatton was on TV this morning saying that he felt he had the fight easy after 5 rounds and then he took his foot off the gas and got lazy.
His opponent needs to pour on the pressure to shrug Ricky off and stop him from coasting to a victory.
Lets face it, if you can get through a days work without breaking a sweat, you will do it, so why he shouldn't he?
You only have to be better than your opponent to win, you don't have to be great in every fight.
No great fighters are, they just have to keep winning...

Good points but in Ricky's situation,it's different. He's trying to break into the very lucrative market Stateside,so he has to look good in order to win over US fans and hope that they spend their hard earned $$$ on him. If that was the first time I'v seen Hatton,I would not see what was entertaining about him at all ESPCIALLY in the last 6 rounds.. and against such a limited fighter in Urango,it was the best chance to win them over,look good. Carry on boxing like he was,show some combos,anything other than the constant holding. I mean I'm sure there was 1 round Lederman gave to Urango simply because Hatton did nothing but help all round.....

If they both don't perofrm better than last night it will be a snoozer....JLC squueked a win out....Hatton ran out of something ???....but if JLC fights like he did and Hatton holds from the 8th on it will put everyone to sleep.....If both are on their game it could be a fight of the year...Hopefully

I can see why it frustrates people but Hatton fans don't mind so much. I know i don't. The thing is he held a lot against Tszyu because obviously tszyu can bang real hard and that tactic worked a treat. Incidently tszyu was just as much to blame in that fight. Against Collazo and Urango it again was the right tactic because they simply weren't budging due to their size. Especially Urango. Nobody will be able to budge him at 140. So it was the right thing to do because it stopped Urango getting into any rythmn. He was boxing slick for the 1st 4 rounds last night but he was taking chances constantly ducking under punches and maybe was thinking Urango might catch him sooner or later so he was right to do what he did. Urango didn't complain much and the ref was ok about it so why not? He was stil getting his one punch off which was landing then he just grabbed Urango to stop him from replying. Wlad Klitschko did the same with Peter except hatton was way more effective with it.
Also don't forget as wel as Castillo not fighting at the weight for 11 months, Hatton hasn't fought at 140 since carlos maussa in Nov 05

Yep,i see where you are coming from bro with the holding v Tszyu.However,I disagree with the Urango fight,he could have launched more attacks and then held on. Also,Urango is tough but he's not a murderous puncher as he is being made out to me. Anyway,that does not matter,Ricky came out with the W,and is facing Castillo and I credit him for that. You make a good point about Hattons first fight at 140 for a while.
However,I will be pissed if he uses those tactics against Castillo because that would spoil the fight. Urango did not complain because he probably thought he was winning,judging by his reactions,raising his arms! My point is against someone as limited as Urango,he could have looked REAL good,he could have put on a good show,I'm not saying go for the KO but certianly do more than he did in the latter half of the fight. He's fighting Stateside for the $$ but if that's the firs timte I've seen Hatton,i would not be overly excited.

His holding is a mechanism for him to rest. Kinda of like John Ruiz, get your business off then prevent the other guy from answering by crowding and holding him which also allows him to rest. While I think it's illegal as hell, it's pretty smart. But these guys Hatton is fighting aren't that smart, they allow Hatton to hold and clinch so it's not all Hatton.
I'm favoring JLC in the match because Hatton was really not liking the little bit of small body work that Urango managed to put in, JLC is an elite level body puncher.

IMO, the stock on both these fighters has fallen somewhat in their last fights. Hatton was lucky enough to escape with a win over Collazo at 147 after being knocked all over the ring late in the fight, and he didn't look particularly dominant in there against Urango. I thought he boxed a little better than in the past, but it puzzled me to see how susceptible he was to getting hurt with body shots.
Castillo has fallen even farther, IMO. After his epic 1st battle with Corrales (even though he lost by TKO), it's been all downhill from there. Problems with weight, and last night a very uninspired performance against a relatively inexperienced, but game fighter. I have a suspicion that the beating his image has taken with the boxing public has had an effect on his boxing state of mind.
Right now my money would have to be on Hatton, if only because his mental and emotional state seems to be more stable and consistent than Castillo's.

119-109 and he didn't look particularly dominant?
What does he have to do? Not let the other fella have a punch?
And sususceptible to body shots? One shot he was caught with in the 5th round. That was it and that was a rib breaker!

But Hatton was looking for more than a win over Urango - he was also looking to win over the fans and public who have begun to question his real credentials against the elite.
That isn't done by taking your foot off the gas and cruising along. Not only that, but that's not how he could have benefited most from the fight. If he wants to improve his skills, then find new ways to break through Urango's defense; new ways to avoid Urango's body shots; show the boxing expert that you did more than make the one adjustment that allowed you to win by cruising - continue to challenge yourself and make micro-adjustments and finesses that add new competence to your boxing skillset.
Not that he should continue to adjust, adjust, adjust and second-guess himself - that isn't what I mean. You have to stay in some safety zone of a chosen approach. But minor adjustments don't threaten that as a basic approach. Clinching will not ever be considered entertaining nor a display of boxing skill. (Boxing savvy perhaps when not to clench is stupid, but ...).
Not a Hatton hater but let's feed him to Castillo, Corrales, Cotto, Mayweather and kiss him good bye.
