Re: Number 1 Super Middleweight right now!!
Im a Calzaghe fan but it is Kessler who is making the bigger fights at the moment and Calzaghe is fighting his second easy ticket in as many fights. Kessler has the momentum at the moment.

Re: Number 1 Super Middleweight right now!!
Two horse race Kessler and Calzaghe. The likes of Andrade and Mundine MIGHT be able to pull an upset if everything goes their way. But it seems unlikely.
Right now - as in who'd win if they fought right now and past accomplishments don't mean shit. Then I'd have Kessler on top by a small margin.
He's had the best recent oposition and looked the best against it. Also Kessler being far more willing to take a Calzaghe fight, than the other way around indicates perhaps Joe is not at all confident.
If Calzaghe can pull of another perfect performance like against Lacy he sure looks dangerous. But it'd better be a career best performance because Kessler fights very consistantly on a high level and has not revealed many cracks in the armor.
Much more uncertain what state Calzaghe would show up in for the fight, with age and hand-trouble possibly beginning to be major problems.
As time goes by, the odds are increasingly tipping in Kessler's favour.

Re: Number 1 Super Middleweight right now!!
I had to take Kessler on this one, he is taking on the tougher competition and is he
beats Andrade, that completely trumps the Jeff Lacy win by Calzaghe IMO.

Re: Number 1 Super Middleweight right now!!
I voted for kessler, but only just from joe. Just wish they'd fight each other sometime soon.

Re: Number 1 Super Middleweight right now!!
It's still Calzaghe for me - but I am bored with him tbh, One truly big fight in 13 years aint enough!!

I think thats fair enough. For me Calzaghe is still number one. If they dont fight one another Kessler will soon surpass Joe by virtue of fighting the better competition, its not ideal but the the thing with being top of the tree is you have to keep on proving it, Joe seems reluctant to.

Well like most people I'm getting frustrated with Calzaghe's seeming inability to pursue the big fights but lets be fair, in Chris Eubank and Jeff Lacy he has two bigger names than anyone on Kesslers record.
He's beatne all comers and is the worlds longest reigning champion in any division.
Yes I'm annoyed he chose to avoid Kessler and fight Manfredo instead but until he gets beaten he's still number 1.

Re: Number 1 Super Middleweight right now!!
Umm, how on earth did Robert Stieglitz end up on this list of luminaries....surely there are plenty more SMW's on this list who deserve to be in the top 5?
Anyhow, predictably enough my vote is going to go with Calzaghe, but come this time next year, and Calzaghe has continued to fight top 20 fighters, and Kessler fighting top 10 fighters, then I think it inevitable that Kessler will deserve top spot. But not yet.

I tried to take my opinion out of the equation, and I just put up the title holders and #1 contenders for the big 4 Alphabet titles: WBA, WBO, WBC and IBF

But that's the thing... Those are the two notable Calzaghe victories that you bring to light... And they are TEN YEARS apart... Or close to it. Can anyone honestly say Calzaghe's beating a shot Chris Eubank nine years ago has anything to do with where he should be ranked today?? Really it comes down to more whether Jeff Lacy was really much better than the likes of Beyer or Eric Lucas even... I don't think he is. And certainly Andrade is a much much tougher challenge than Manfredo ::** Couple that with, as has been mentioned, the fact that Kessler want's Calzaghe not the other way around, and I think it's really dead even.. Calzaghe has the heralded win that people are going to talk about, but aside from that, Kessler has shown he want's to pursue the bigger fights at the moment.

Which world title does Andrade hold ?
-
Re: Number 1 Super Middleweight right now!!
Whilst I dont agree that beating Andrade will trump Calzaghe's win over Lacy, at least Andrade has earned his right to fight the champion.

I think Calzaghe wants Kesller just as much as Kessler wants him. I don't think its purely down to Calzaghe as to why they haven't fought yet.

Re: Number 1 Super Middleweight right now!!
In fairness to Mundine, he has improved a whole hell of a lot since the fight with Ottke.
-
Re: Number 1 Super Middleweight right now!!
calzaghe is deffo the best super middle weight if you ask me. definately. kessler is to average to beat calzaghe. and who else contends for the top spot at 168? cos it aint froch or mundaine or any of those other fools

Re: Number 1 Super Middleweight right now!!
Though most of you may know I favor Kess, but the truth is the truth.
Joe C. is the Champ. of the div. and Kess is #1.
Champ: Joe C.
1. Kess
2. Andrade
3. Mundine
4. Lacy
5. Allan Green
6. Froch
7. Beyer
8. Bute
9. Soliman
10. Inkin

Re: Number 1 Super Middleweight right now!!
The amount of supposedly top fighters with no loses shows that the wrong fights are now made in boxing.
